NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (WISH) — Andrew Dawson, 27, has been identified as the man shot by U.S. Secret Service in Washington
the North Manchester Police Department tipped them off that Dawson was suicidal and was making his way to Washington
I-Team 8 went North Manchester on Monday and spoke with people at several local businesses
The Secret Service found Dawson’s car and someone matching his description about a block away from the White House
President Donald Trump was not there when the shooting happened
Chief Michael Buck of the Secret Service uniformed division said
at which time an armed encounter ensued and Secret Service personnel discharged their service weapons.”

carrying a rifle or shotgun outside a home or business
and possession of prohibited weapon (possession of a BB gun)

I-Team 8 spoke with the chief of the North Manchester Police Department to find out how they knew Dawson was heading to Washington
The chief told I-Team 8 that the Secret Service instructed him to not give out any information about the situation and that all of the information about the case had to come from the Secret Service

lifetime member of the National Education Association and sponsor of the Science Club at Columbia City High School for many years and a member of the Whitley County Retired Teachers Association
He was a baritone in the Chain O' Lakes Barbershop Chorus for 30 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday
with calling one hour prior at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home

Secret Service personnel shot an armed man near the White House early Sunday
hours after obtaining information that a possibly suicidal man might be traveling to Washington
The man was 27-year-old Andrew Dawson, according to unnamed police sources who shared information with Fox News and NBC
Reports say Dawson is from North Manchester
a town with just over 5,000 residents about 100 miles north of Indianapolis
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement that the shooting took place "following an armed confrontation" with law enforcement
The statement said Secret Service members found the man's parked vehicle around midnight and saw a man on foot matching the description nearby
the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued
during which shots were fired by our personnel," the statement said
law enforcement that Dawson was possibly suicidal and driving to Washington
The Secret Service has not confirmed the man's identity
police told IndyStar they won't share more details yet
An officer with the North Manchester Police Department told IndyStar he could not share information about the incident nor confirm that Dawson is the person who was shot

Dawson was charged in 2018 with misdemeanor possession of marijuana
he was taken to an area hospital and his condition is not immediately available
The incident was under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division's Force Investigations Team
which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia

14 evening event that will run from 5-9 p.m
“Sing Me Home” is also a supporting sponsor of the inaugural Hispanic Heritage Festival in downtown North Manchester on Sept
13 featuring Chicago-based group Son Chiquitos
This festival is also free and family-friendly and is presented by the Wabash County Diversity Coalition
