attempted to ignite a homemade bomb he placed at the building's doors

Luca and an unnamed person (who acted as a lookout) drove to 60 Charles Lindberg Boulevard where the Nassau County Department of Social Services is located
Luca allegedly placed a 20-pound propane tank and another 1-pound camping propane tank at the doors of the building with a torch on top of the tanks
Surveillance video recovered from the scene shows Luca allegedly attempting to throw lit flares at the homemade device in an attempt to ignite it
As police continued to investigate the incident
they discovered another 20-pound propane tank a short distance from the scene and the abandoned vehicle in East Meadow with additional road flares located inside of the car
Luca was arraigned on charges that include crime of terrorism
first-degree criminal possession of a weapon

along with an abandoned vehicle containing additional road flares
Luca was indicted on the following counts:
Luca pleaded not guilty and was held at the Nassau County jail while his case proceeds
The case marks the first time the Nassau County District Attorney's Office has prosecuted a terrorism charge

Merrick has a number of notable landmarks that give it local flavor
Not far from the library is a community known as Merrick Gables
It is made up of Spanish-style stucco and red-tile-roof homes built in the 1920s and ’30s
when movie industry executives in California hoped to create a “Hollywood East” in New York

Long Island (WABC) -- Police on Long Island are looking for a suspect in two luring incidents Tuesday
an unknown man approached two children in Bellmore and North Merrick around 3 p.m
an 11-year-old girl was walking on Oak Street at Oak Court in Bellmore when a man driving an older model white pick-up truck
a 10-year-old boy was walking on Dewey Avenue at Stewart Avenue in North Merrick
when a white pick-up truck pulled up and the driver told him to get in the truck
I was surprised that he said today he's going out and I said
Let's stay home today'," said the boy's proud mother exclusively to Eyewitness News
discussing her brave son who did exactly what she told him to do if he should ever encounter a stranger
We're not disclosing her identity to protect her son's innocence
"He always has a cellphone on him and if anybody approaches you
leave immediately and go to a local house and that's what he did," she said
Her son was riding his bike from a friend's house when the man pulled up
"And my son said what and he said get in the truck and my son sped off on his bike and the man left in the truck as well," said the boy's mother
The two attempted abductions happened only 15 minutes apart
Both children gave police the same description
wearing a red/black baseball cap with the letter 'B' on it
"I'm very surprised due to the fact that we never have this kind of problem
this kind of experience," said an area resident
With no clear description of the man's face
police are hoping the few details they have shared will be enough to get someone's attention

North Merrick fire officials said that one firefighter was hurt but all occupants were safe after a house fire on Sutton Place
A North Merrick woman escaped unharmed Tuesday after roofers working on her house woke her up when they saw the house was on fire
who was sleeping inside the house at 1715 Sutton Place
"The house sustained extensive damage," police said in a news release
Roofers first noticed that power inside the house had been shut down and went to alert the owner

The man was taken to an area hospital with multiple trauma injuries and was in serious condition
who was driving the vehicle that crashed into the motorcycle
remained at the scene and had minor injuries
The motorcycle and vehicle were impounded for a brake and safety check
