But, senior catcher Kyle Kulikowski delivered a two-out run-scoring single up the middle to tie it at 2-2 “That was huge for them,” Penafeather said The top half of the inning got away from Baldwinsville Later in the inning, Jacob Penafeather was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out Then, Gavin Seeber came up to the plate which forced Albero home as the winning run “It’s funny how baseball works,” Penafeather said Despite the intentional walk not going the way that the Northstars would have hoped Penafeather noted it was the “right move” to set up a force out at home plate “(C-NS) had timely hitting in the top of the seventh Jacob Penafeather finished with a double, single, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base for the Bees. Jack Rider chipped in a run-scoring single On the bump for Baldwinsville, Joey Warner went five-plus innings and gave up an unearned run and seven hits with three strikeouts Nathaniel Georger recorded a scoreless inning in relief Kulikowski finished with a double, single, two RBI and a walk for the Northstars. Nesci hit the 100-goal mark for her career and draw control machine Gabrielle Putman passed 400 draw controls for her career C-NS quickly made clear there would be no drama on the blustery afternoon The team led 9-0 after one quarter and sent the clock into running time quickly in the second quarter “And I think what makes us different a little bit is just our transition So we get those goals really fast and we push transition So I think that’s what pumped us up really fast in the beginning.” Putman won 14 draw controls on Tuesday and is an artist at the craft She is quick enough to flip the ball to herself and then uses her distance runner’s burst to create space in the attacking end of the field The draw is kind of like a science,” she said Every person you go up against is different I’ve watched so many YouTube videos and I’ve just gotten so good at it And I don’t just do it in practice or in a game 1/24High School Girls Lacrosse 2025: Cicero-North Syracuse at LiverpoolThis could have been a season of a different kind of transition for C-NS a potentially devastating departure for most programs So I think this year just keeps motivating us to keep going and keep doing the things that C-NS lacrosse does,” Nesci said Prentice has established a factory line of talent in her five years running the team It’s hard to remember when she returned to coach her alma mater the program hadn’t won a sectional championship since she played for the school in 1997 Since Prentice took over she’s won two sectionals and one state championship “I think we always knew C-NS had the talent I think it’s just utilizing the talent in the right way,” Prentice said “And I think the biggest thing is really getting the girls to just believe in themselves We talk very much about having that mindset We go into every game believing we’re going to win regardless of what the other team is And I think that that’s something that we’ve done as a program is encouraged that and made sure that they believe that.” Smith credited Prentice with instilling the importance of confidence and chemistry in the Northstars “I think she gives a lot of girls opportunities and a way to see the field and see what they can do And I think that’s what she did for me,” Smith said “She gave me an opportunity my freshman year and I’ve been able to thrive off of it and have a really good career here at C-NS And I think she thinks it’s really important for us to get together and bond together I think chemistry is most important when it comes to a lacrosse team.” C-NS did return six players who are heading off to play Division I college lacrosse next season including Smith at North Carolina and Putman at Vanderbilt That returning experience gave Prentice the confidence to toss this year’s edition into the mix against top foes right away I like to have a really hard schedule on purpose to learn to grow if we get a loss,” Prentice said but it helps us learn and grow and teaches us what we need to do to succeed at the end of the season They say it’s not how ugly it is in the middle The Northstars know there could be a handful more tests between now and then if not from Section III then certainly in states Their groove is already good and only figures to get better by late May I think it motivates us at practice to be better so everyone having that same mindset kind of just pushes us to be better.” there’s this: Prentice has promised to take part in the pregame circle dance if the Northstars reach the final four “I think I’ll be all right,” Prentice said Contact Lindsay Kramer anytime: EmailTwitter
