There have been other past zoning applications for the property, including a proposed empty nester community. the club will place an “emphasis on nailing the experience for kids.” Dawson and Williams plan to achieve this through 18,000 square feet of dedicated kids’ space specialized children’s programming and more than 5,000 square feet of outdoor space not including the club’s planned resort-style pool so our place within the community is kind of delivering on a family experience that has continuity,” Williams said “There are great places in East Dallas already for you to bring your kids to have a continuous experience for several hours when you go to the little gym or some of these places in town that are good for one thing and then you go try and figure out where’s good place to take my kids to dinner where’s a good place for my kids to do homework.” the club will dedicate the entire third floor as a “bigs” play area The first floor is expected to have a smaller play area and daycare space for younger children Specialized children’s programming will be developed for their children’s programs although the pair admits they will need some outside help on that front “We certainly want to connect with people who are doing this with excellence and then touch base with the neighborhood,” Williams says “But I think a lot of our programming will be focused on flourishing and not simply putting your kid in front of a movie for two hours.” Williams and Clark, who sold their work club brand, Common Desk say that they want parents to enjoy the club as well The second floor will be made up of gym space The fourth floor will have an adults-only dining space to compliment a family eatery on the first floor The pair say that they have not finalized plans for dining offerings, but expect to create “elevated” options with potential for collaboration with East Dallas restaurants like Birdie’s Eastside Membership is expected to cost $399-$450 a month with an initiation fee between $7,500 to $10,000 They say membership will be opened to those in the “neighborhood” first with a discount but that the parameters for the discount have not been set At a community meeting at the Audelia Branch Library on Oct Clark and Williams delivered an informative presentation and fielded questions to what seemed to be a mostly-supportive Clark and Williams say they anticipate the community engagement portion of the process will continue throughout the next month with the zoning case arriving before the zoning commission sometime in November or December They have connected both with D10 Councilmember Kathy Stewart and Zoning Commissioner Tipton Housewright in anticipation of the zoning process wants to see a specific use permit or planned development district designation attached to any zoning change “I think it’s always important when we do a project to make sure that the neighbors have a voice,” Stewart said and the neighbors are concerned about what’s happening on the property I think it’s very important for neighbors to have a voice and to be able to say that something’s changed that they’re concerned about So I think making sure that we have either SUP or the PD in place will give the neighbors that standing to you know it to express their concerns” Williams and Clark have said they expect to open in late 2026 “We believe that that’s going to create intimate experiences with our members and it’s almost like a neighborhood church “I’ve been a part of a few mega churches A Canadian sports bar from Canada is coming to Northlake: Called Shark Club Sports Bar and Grill it will be part of a new youth sports center from the Dallas Stars hockey team at 4819 SH 114 at the StarCenter Multisport Shark Club is from Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi and first opened in Vancouver, Canada in 1993. (They also briefly opened a burgers and shakes concept next door in the marketplace The new Mansfield location has fast-casual service Fans can buy hats and T-shirts with the restaurant's design The menu at Mansfield is similar to DeSoto location but with a bigger focus on Southern fried chicken Customers can get plain fried chicken or the spicier Nashville-style Prices range from $8.50 for nuggets to $14 for catfish & fries The only thing they're not doing at Mansfield is sandwiches a twist on the classic Kentucky butter cake a moist pound cake with a butter and sugar syrup and a vanilla glazed crust The center where they're located has a healthy mix of shops and restaurants. They took over a space that was previously occupied by another chicken place called Chick'n Cone now closed; but Marshall is upbeat about the area "Just looking in the Mansfield area and seeing all the growth there we decided it’s kind of booming over there,” she says "We're so busy in Mansfield right now we're getting a lot of walk-in traffic." Northlake Town Council members discuss helping the neighboring town of Ponder with needed water infrastructure The Cambria Hotel in Northlake will feature 111 guest rooms A rendering of the fourth Denton County ESD1 station Denton County Emergency Services District 1 personnel shovel dirt at the groundbreaking of Station 512 on Thursday The station is located off of Interstate 35W on Dale Earnhardt Way Chief Ricky Vaughan poses at the groundbreaking of the new fire station on Thursday Denton County ESD1 Board President Sheldon Gilbert speaks at the new station's groundbreaking Thursday Denton County Emergency Services District 1 broke ground Thursday on a modular fire station that will have crews running calls out of the Northlake location in just a few months which will be located at 3850 Dale Earnhardt Way is going to be a prefabricated modular fire station That means that while construction crews are readying the site, crews in Canada are already constructing the 5,200-square-foot station The site work and building will cost an estimated $5.6 million and the district expects to have the station in operation by late July “This whole thing is going to be less than 15 months from conception to turnkey which is kind of unheard of in the construction world,” DCESD Chief Ricky Vaughan said it’s phenomenal that we’re able to do this in such a short amount of time.” For the past two years, the district has been recovering from embezzlement that caused a stifling budgetary deficit. Now, with a steady stream of funding Vaughan said the district can stop playing catch-up and start focusing on proactive planning “We can write a book on this whole past couple years from the shenanigans before I got here to getting the firefighters paid back and all that,” Vaughan said … We’ve come a long way in just over two years I feel like we’re heading in the right direction This [station] is just another piece of being able to now service the growing areas — Northlake and western Argyle The southern portion of Northlake, which is about to welcome the new Dr. Pepper StarCenter Multisport Northlake and the district wanted an increased presence in the area sooner rather than later So it was enticing to the district and its board to have a station with such a relatively quick construction timeline “There’s a unique risk profile in this whole southern Northlake-Alliance development area with a lot of commercial hotels and conference centers planned,” Gilbert said “This station is going to allow us to provide adequate coverage not only in the geographic area that it immediately serves but it also allows us to send resources up into the north Despite how relatively fast the construction will be Vaughan said the station is going to be robust The building will be able to meet the district’s needs for 40 to 50 years This kind of modular build also allows the district to add extra apparatus bays It’s likely the station will receive at least 50 to 60 calls a month but it’s hard to say because the area is growing so rapidly The district’s total call volume went up 18.8% last year Vaughan said they are planning strategically and are excited to meet the community’s needs Thursday’s groundbreaking was a historical moment that marks the closing of a dark chapter in the district’s history “It’s an amazing comeback story,” Vaughan said “The fact we’re adding a third frontline ambulance and soon thereafter how proud I am of our firefighters and their resilience and just the amount of support we’ve had from the community.” BROOKE COLOMBO can be reached at 940-566-6882 and bcolombo@dentonrc.com For more than 120 years, the Denton Record-Chronicle has been Denton County’s source for locally produced, fact-based journalism.
