The Northview softball team is a younger group. With just a couple upperclassmen on the roster, the Chiefs are built up mostly by freshmen and sophomores. But don't let the age fool you. Northview's had younger players who have played beyond their years. And the District 1-Rural championship on May 1 at Jay was no exception. "We have a strong team still," Northview head coach Amy Holland said after the district championship win They told us since the beginning that they were going to get it done "I think we’re all mentally strong enough, where if we get down, we always fight back. … Everybody’s more mature than their actual age," sophomore Mikayla McAnally said "I think this win shows a lot about our team.” Since its last district crown in 2019, the Chiefs had to battle a shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19, followed by four consecutive championships won by rival Jay. The 2022-24 championship games, then Class 1A before the FHSAA reconfigured classifications entering the 2024-25 season, were between the arch rivals. The last district championship won by Northview was also against Jay. Playoff Brackets: Nine Pensacola-area softball teams are in the FHSAA region tournaments. See who made the cut Safe to say these two programs have a long "That was a great win tonight over the first-place team in our area – and in the Rural class," Holland said Safe to say It's been a long time coming since Northview was able to hold the district championship trophy. Especially for players like Jamison Gilman, the lone senior for Northview this season who's had to battle her way to the top of the district mountain since 2022 "We finally did it," Gilman said after the game "It’s definitely a good feeling to be on top While Gilman did add a pair of hits with three RBIs in the Chiefs' 9-1 victory a good number of underclassmen stole the show in the dominant win A strong six-run second inning from Northview during the game was highlighted by a home run from sophomore Bailey Burkette who had entered the game in a bit of a slump Among the other standouts included a 17-strikeout night for McAnally, who allowed just three hits and one earned run – a home run from Jay's Morgan Barrow – in a complete game performance at the circle Northview's pitching has been primarily led by both Gilman and McAnally a solid duo between a senior and a sophomore you’ve got to win that game to get to this game "They still have two or three years with the same team This is the same group of people for the next few years They’re going to be a real good team," Gilman said of the younger players on the squad being the only senior and trying to be a leader you have a team that can pull it out and fight until the end I have a good (pitcher) that can go in for me I’m just ready to go onto regionals and hopefully state.” It's a team that's had belief since the beginning of the 2025 season that it could do something special, both Gilman and McAnally said. Certain games, like a narrow 3-0 loss to Pace – one of the top teams in the state – plus the initial win over Jay on April 3 during the regular season Northview enters the region tournament and will start with a home game despite falling in the district championship game to Jay It's the first time the teams have met since last year's region final "This is the start of the season now for us," Gilman said "It’s going to be so great to play that first playoff game back at Northview and have all our fans there," Holland said "It’s going to be great for our community.” newswire services or for dissemination in the United States 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northview Residential REIT (the “REIT”) today announced its April 2025 cash distribution amounts on its outstanding Class A Units Class C Units and Class F Units (collectively the “Units”) in the amount of C$0.091146 per Unit (C$1.09 per Unit on an annualized basis) The distribution will be payable on May 15 2025 to holders of Units of record at April 30 The REIT is a publicly traded real estate investment trust established pursuant to a declaration of trust under the laws of the Province of Ontario for the primary purpose of indirectly acquiring owning and operating a portfolio of income producing rental properties in secondary markets within Canada To learn more about the REIT, visit www.rentnorthview.com or contact: President and Chief Executive OfficerNorthview Residential REIT Tel:       (403) 531-0720Email:   tcook@nvreit.ca Chief Financial OfficerNorthview Residential REIT Tel:       (403) 531-0720Email:   swalker@nvreit.ca While many Pittsburgh neighborhoods could see their local school shutter in the next few years Final recommendations for school closures presented to Pittsburgh Public Schools in October proposed permanently closing 10 schools and reconfiguring more than a dozen others But consultants contracted by the district also suggested reopening the district’s long-vacant building in Northview Heights as an elementary school The school, which closed during the district’s last round of consolidations in 2012 It's surrounded by a 450-apartment housing complex run by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh At a meeting held by One Northside and Kidcelerate inside the community gym Wednesday night longtime resident Tamara Smith said bringing her neighborhood’s students back together inside one centrally-located school would unify the community Northview Heights is home to many African immigrants and refugees, with large Somali Bantu, Burundian and Congolese communities. rebounds who got injured in the state semifinal win played the final 37 seconds – and hit a 3 that nearly tore the roof off MTSU’s Murphy Center the cheers from the Lady Mountaineer fans were that loud four players for Heritage (35-2) reached double figures to help fill the gap in offensive production without Swaney “I’ve always dreamed of playing in a state championship,” Swaney said my teammates said they were going to win it for me wait.’ To go in with 30 seconds left was a lifesaver And to make that shot was just icing on the cake.” Heritage led 36-23 at halftime but went 1-for-11 shooting with just two points in the third period allowing Northview (33-5) to cut into the deficit scoring on consecutive possessions in the paint for Northview and trimming Heritage’s lead to 38-33 with 1:16 left in the third Heritage showed life again when sophomores Katelyn Graves and Faith Morris sank 3-pointers from the wings in the opening minutes of the fourth to help rebuild the lead to 49-38 Graves scored 14 points and played a heroic role in the first half Heritage coach Howard deployed some stall ball forcing Northview to chase and ultimately foul The Lady Mountaineers made five
