OGDEN — Ogden residents voiced their frustration after the city fenced off a portion of Gib's Loop this past week The decision, which affected a popular trail running through Mount Ogden Golf Course, sparked swift backlash, with over a thousand people signing a petition in just three days, arguing that the trail belongs to the community. For decades, locals have enjoyed hiking, biking and running along the path, making it a key part of their outdoor lifestyle. Long-time trail user Hite Stromberg said the closure felt personal. "I grew up on this trail. I learned to bike here and ran with teammates thousands of times," Stromberg said. "It's a shame to cut it off." Stromberg, like many others, viewed the restriction as unnecessary and called for city officials to reconsider. The city maintained that safety is the primary concern and pointed to the risk posed by stray golf balls in the area. Mike McBride, the public information officer for Ogden city government, explained that the closure was about ensuring responsible use of public spaces. "We're asking neighbors to be good neighbors and use things for their intended purpose," McBride said. However, longtime trail users argued that shutting off the loop wasn't the answer. Josh Stuart, whose son Beck has Down syndrome, said the path's accessibility is crucial to his family's lifestyle. "There are plenty of solutions that would allow different groups to coexist here without completely cutting people off," he stated. The debate is ongoing, and community members like Stromberg are not giving up the fight. They are calling for education and discussion before resorting to permanent barriers. Meanwhile, the city insists the changes are part of broader improvements to the golf course, with volunteers scheduled to assist trail users in navigating the updates. The fate of Gib's Loop remains uncertain, but for those who grew up with the trail, it is more than just a path — it's a piece of their home. stick to that trail and don’t accidentally find themselves in the path of a golf ball or two Ogden City sent out a press release announcing a series of improvements to be implemented in conjunction with the Ogden Trails Network and Trails Foundation of Northern Utah Ogden Communications Director Mike McBride told the Standard-Examiner on Wednesday the improvements come out of a safety-related need to separate the trail from the adjacent golf course “The intent is we are going to be asking the public to maintain spaces for their intended use,” he said He added that local feedback also contributed showing some people weren’t sure where the organized trail ended and the golf course began “We had dozens of hours with our director of the golf course and our director of Parks & Cemeteries and speaking with folks as they walked on the golf course not golfing,” he said it was found that people honestly didn’t know.” • “New signage installed at social trail entrances; • Maintenance gates added where the pipeline owned by the Bureau of Reclamation crosses the course; • Natural fencing added to help guide users along the designated trails; • A section of Gib’s Loop will be rerouted to accommodate user demands improve trail flow and reroute away from the golf course; • Ongoing enhancements to Gib’s Loop — a treasured and already welcoming part of our trail system; the city is exploring options for a year-round dog park near the golf course.” “volunteers will be stationed at key access points to answer questions and help guide trail users through these changes in a positive and welcoming way.” McBride said the project will also get some special volunteer help from the Ogden High School Mountain Bike Team in helping build a bridge at one point on the trail He added that Ogden City is especially blessed to have so many options for outdoor recreation “Ogden recreation users are really fortunate,” he said “We have roughly 80 miles of designated trail that the Ogden Trail Network has either created or currently maintains Ogden is really rich in recreation services We have two of the most beautiful golf courses We are grateful to the community that use those that are good stewards to those spaces.” McBride said work is set to begin today (Thursday) and will last a couple of months Runners head through downtown Wheeling during a previous Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic part of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine WHEELING — The Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine is a showcase of the entire city of Wheeling from the many neighborhoods that make up the path of the Ogden Newspapers Half-Marathon Classic to the city landmarks that are part of the Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan With so much of Wheeling in the spotlight that weekend the City of Wheeling — its police and fire departments and many more — make sure to help as much as possible in making the weekend’s events a continued success For the Wheeling Police and Fire departments those two days are an all-hands-on-deck situation firefighters and emergency medical personnel are found along the courses of all the events The Wheeling Police Department can be found throughout the courses directing traffic to ensure participants can run and climb without worrying about passing automobiles Members of the department’s Neighborhood Assistant Volunteer group also lend a hand there Officers remain visible around the start and finish lines and around Heritage Port where many of the food trucks and entertainment can be found They’ll use K-9 officers and drones to see the area from different perspectives They also work closely with the Wheeling Fire Department to coordinate responses between the two departments at Incident Command “This is one of the marquee events the city has each year,” Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said “Right up there with the (Festival of Lights) Parade and a couple of other events Everyone steps up because they all know they have a mission to make sure this goes off without a hitch.” The Wheeling Fire Department will have personnel around the courses and some of them will be on ATVs and bicycles to explore parts of the courses that a fire engine or ambulance can’t reach is most important when it comes to the Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan where participants can find themselves in more remote and hard-to-get locations Fire and emergency personnel will be available for needs like sprains and strains to heat-related injuries Blazier said he’s always enjoyed assisting with the races as it heralds the start of the summer season “I always look at it as this is the beginning of summer,” Blazier said “When the Ogden weekend comes around We’re looking forward to good weather and the Memorial Day weekend We’re always glad to be a part of it and make things come off nice and safe.” Several other city departments are on the case The operations department scours the courses to make sure barricades and signs are where they need to be that the courses are free of debris and that adapters are connected to fire hydrants at the right spots on the half-marathon course for the aid stations The Wheeling Parks and Recreation Department also makes its presence known And many of the obstacles found along the Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan are either found in city facilities or are the city facilities themselves “The entire weekend is such a positive community event that promotes fitness and family,” Herron said “We’re happy to help any way we can It’s just a first-rate community event.” general manager of The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register said the city’s cooperation is integral in the continued success of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine “It can’t be stressed enough how important the City of Wheeling is to what we do each year with the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine,” Spanner said “So many city departments have been so gracious with their time efforts and resources both now and in the past We are extremely grateful for their contributions and can’t wait for what this year’s event has in store.” children have died this flu season than at any time since the swine flu pandemic 15 .. | https://www.theintelligencer.net | 1500 Main Street Rock Sins On a very warm and not at all air-conditioned Southampton afternoon Rocksins had the chance to sit down with Kelly from the Dollyrots to have a little chat about 25 years of the band I was really looking forward to some cool weather and it has been blazing hot worse than Florida I’ve been looking and it’s been hotter than home in Tampa and you don’t have air conditioning here we will complain about this heat for at least the next three to six months and then we’ll complain it’s raining all the time Everybody wants what they don’t have which also means Luis and I could have adult children because we’ve been together that long Did you guys kind of get together as the Dollyrots started then Then he just kind of stalked me for a few years Then we ended up going to the same College and then our fourth year of college he was starting a band with some friends He taught me to play guitar a little bit in high school I know how this ends if I’m not in the band and they’re like that would be so cool to have a girl in the band we had already been together for years and didn’t play music or anything we had planned on being professionals not being musicians I saw Luis was going to go to be a doctor?  like a book on sea turtle nesting and the effects of light pollution on sea turtles I saw that after the presidential election where Bush Jr got in Yeah we were like the world’s gonna end you know you’re kind of worried about and still are let’s just take a year off and we’ll  move to California and then we’ll do like grad school and med school and then lots of other things split seven inches and albums with friends Well it’s not bad to say it was just it was meant to work out because it keeps happening I feel like if I picked up a guitar and started singing people would be like booing me off the stage Maybe you just have to be very persistent and clueless But 25 years on the road with your husband and now your children I thought that was really hard but you know what and we always had to have someone to watch the baby during the set it wasn’t until Daisy was born that it was someone to come on tour with us and just be in charge of the kids Luckily we have amazing friends that you know take turns and they’ll just come along with us and make sure the kids are entertained and fed they went to the Titanic Museum and Primark to get Sanrio stuff and we always tried to find something for them to do and so that can probably be the toughest thing as them getting out all their energy There’s a lot of energy in those bodies and so you know they need they need to move their bodies Yeah I suppose in the UK and Europe there’s plenty for them to do as well plenty of museums to keep them entertained They get to meet people like today at the Museum there are a whole bunch of like kids on a field trip. They just couldn’t believe they were all in like the exact same uniform with the same shoes but it’s really cool because they’re getting to see different perspectives I’m hoping it makes them well-rounded cool humans and everybody takes turns entertaining them throughout the day So we’ve really lucked out every day because you get to bring your kids on tour so one of our best friends from growing up Byron He just stays at our house when we’re gone Then next door is our very first merch person ever and Byron takes care of the furry creatures I suppose Shrimp can’t be that high maintenance aside from keeping the tank clean.  I cleaned them right before I left and fed them but they don’t need to eat all that much over feeding while I’m gone would be kinda bad because I can’t check the water parameters I can see you getting home and immediately running to the tank to count them and check the water.  I might immediately do a water change. Then open all the mail I think I might have letters from 2 years ago that still havent been opened I know if it’s like a bank statement I’m not going to open that We do get a lot of junk mail in the UK though so it’s mostly just that.  and then pour shrimp water on it so that no one can read it.  I’m quite interested in how it is for you working with your husband I have worked a job with mine before and now we are both doing the interviewing thing It’s just the way it has always been and it seems normal like we both do other things we convinced our lawyer in California to buy properties in Tampa so we are a property management business accidentally Can you imagine us being your landlord like we’re like I’m gonna watch a YouTube video and come fix your sink I’ll be there in a week when I get home I also have a radio show on SiriusXM five days a week I do those shows and he helps me finalize them because we have a lot of jobs and the kids So he does all the kid driving usually like when he’s gone and I have to perform every single day at least once It’s the radio station that I work for SiriusXM is Little Steven’s underground garage some of us lucky DJs were asked to go do it with our bands and so I mean,as long as I’m not sick I’ve been sleeping terribly on this tour because it’s just so hot The air conditioner on the bus can’t keep up like in the mornings once we’re in the blazing sun It’s because I haven’t slept yet in a week.  You don’t even get respite either because you can go to the shops and we still don’t have air-con You’ll find bolts of shade and it’s just brits hiding from the sun Normally we have good rainstorms here.  Rainstorms are great as long as they’re not hurricanes That’s got to be a big issue with Florida It’s just this whole thing it was crazy Luis actually got tennis elbow from drilling all the boards up around the house I’m assuming everyone else comes with you she was a feral cat that has just started moving into the house at the hotel we had no power or water eventually and you don’t know what’s gonna happen you guys have had a lot of flooding and stuff Yeah we flood quite a bit because we’re a small little island but I can’t imagine going through something like that That’s what our kids have at home.  they’re like we had an earthquake baby.  Yeah because you’d have been on the Santa Ana line but it’s been a while since we’ve had a big one In my head I’m like it’s not that far but realistically you upped and moved everything far away.  But it was good because we were moving back home Now we’ve got our families around for the kids and the manatees and they were like you can get in the water but just watch for crocs I was happy on that boat after that.  It’s our fault we ate all their fish.  And then we got in the water looking kinda like seals.  those surfers look kind of like a delicious seal you’re moving on to America for the rest of the tour after your cruise which we’re hoping for no sea sickness Is it a similar venue size for you when you do the states?  Then we’ll be home for a couple weeks because the kids are doing a special summer camp stuff Then we just announced we’re doing a tour with Bowling for Soup that is just kind of the southeast because they’re headed to WarpTour Thinking about this the first time I ever saw you guys was with Bowling For Soup and Forever The Sickest Kids in Southampton because I think that day the QE2 was christened right here We happened to be looking for food and we were in the square and a town crier got up on a thing and I thought it was like a daily occurrence Just that’s the image in your head.  we toured with Buzzcocks and we did play here we try to take a walk yesterday we were in Swansea we went to the beach because it was sunny and blazing hot Do you have a favorite little part of the UK you found but it’s so hard to get there because we have to put the bus on a ferry which is fascinating coming from the states because it’s such a small area I guess if I have to pick a favorite place We got really good Thai food there last time you’ll be like I have to go back to Brighton for that Thai food.  we have all been eating Ethiopian food for I don’t know why it’s just what we’ve been eating but it’s been great I had Curry for breakfast and Ethiopian for dinner so I’m gonna get as much as I can.  For more information on The Dollyrots head over here and website in this browser for the next time I comment Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" will have an opportunity to get their geek on in Ogden this month Launched by local collectors Steve Baum and Jared Rudy Ogden-Con will return to the Comfort Suites Ogden Conference Center — located at 2250 S Admission is free for the family-friendly event which will feature vendors dealing in comics vintage and modern pop culture collectibles the convention was born out of frustration with larger commercial events that Baum and Rudy found increasingly expensive and less focused on comics it was a little bit of a nightmare,” Baum told the Standard-Examiner rather than spending what they considered to be an exorbitant amount on a vendor table at FanX they decided to start something local and affordable for attendees and vendors alike The convention has grown steadily ever since; this year it will host between 40 and 50 vendors and expand into four rooms at the Comfort Suites the 2024 convention drew roughly 1,000 people “We’ve been getting bigger every year,” he said “We just sold out our tables a couple of days ago.” Baum’s own fascination with comic books dates back to the theatrical release of the original “Star Wars” — or “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” as younger fans may know it “I went to go see ‘Star Wars’ in the movie theater They were giving away ‘Star Wars’ comics,” Baum recalled “I went and I saw ‘Star Wars’ six times so I could get those comic books It’s Baum’s hope that Ogden-Con will provide an avenue into comic book collecting and related hobbies that’s similarly accessible “We have a lot of free comics for kids and we have quite a few vendors who are selling comics for just a dollar,” Baum said “It’s great for kids or people who are wanting to start a collection You can go to the show with 50 bucks and walk away with the start of a good collection.” The event will also feature costume contests with cash prizes for kids ages 12 and under Some proceeds from the convention will go to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation a 501(c)(3) nonprofit benefiting first responders Tunnel to Towers Foundation ambassador Jennie Taylor will speak at 11 a.m Recently named Civilian Advisor to the Secretary of the Army for Utah Taylor is the Gold Star widow of former North Ogden Mayor and Utah Army National Guard Maj who was killed in action in 2018 while on his fourth combat deployment to Afghanistan “If you’re looking for something free to do that you can bring the kids to and just have some fun local event and it’s for a good cause,” Baum added South Ogden resident Kara Fierro was on palliative care and bracing for the transition to hospice Her lungs were barely functioning and every breath taken was a monumental task living for more than two decades beyond the 10 years doctors predicted she might have when she was a child she managed to live more life than many hope to over a much longer period of time hiked Angels Landing with a broken foot and her oxygen tank in tow appeared as a contestant on “The Price Is Right” and took up aerial dancing Even when she was hospitalized and in poor health Fierro would hang her aerial lyra onto a Hoyer lift or have her practice pole brought into her room so she could continue to do what she loves and Fierro was instead reaching another milestone in her unlikely journey performing in her first aerial dance recital since undergoing a difficult but ultimately life-saving double-lung transplant “It meant everything to me,” Fierro told the Standard-Examiner of the experience “That was one of the big motivating factors for me to get a transplant and then to fight through the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through in my life just trying to fight to survive — all with the goal of getting back to being able to perform that was kind of the culmination of all that hard work was set to “Fever” by Peggy Lee — the same song Fierro performed to in her first aerial recital several years earlier I want to do that as my first ever performance,” she said prior to the recital when she received her new lungs after having been rejected four times as a transplant candidate previously which was followed by six weeks in intensive care she received more blood transfusions than she can count The toll on her body and spirit were tremendous and she wasn’t always sure she wanted to keep up the fight “I had lost all of my muscle to the point where I couldn’t walk I had lots of complications during that first year.” Fierro says she was able to start exercising again a regimen that came to include weightlifting “All that was just trying to work up that muscle to be able to come back,” Fierro said she has been supported by people like her husband It was absolutely breathtaking,” Belinda Fierro told the Standard-Examiner “It was a miracle to see what she’s gone through her whole life yet you go out there and you knock it out of the park.” Belinda Fierro says she tried not to hold her granddaughter back from doing things and pushed her to get the most out of her life it was often Kara who pushed her own limits it would scare you because it was so vicious the veins in her neck would pop out,” Belinda Fierro said not too many people want somebody who’s coughing like that to play softball that word ‘can’t’ is not in her vocabulary.” Belinda has been with Kara through incredible highs and unthinkable lows across numerous hospitalizations and medical procedures she credits Eaves for helping her granddaughter weather the storm during those moments when her resolve wavered Eaves and Fierro were wed in 2009 but they met at Weber State University five years earlier “I made up my mind that I would ask her out,” Eaves told the Standard-Examiner we’re all getting together for a study group It’s going to be great,’ but she was the only one I ever invited I guess they got the time wrong or they didn’t want to go to the library.'” Said Fierro: “It was a good move on his part Eaves and Fierro’s marriage has been anything but ordinary There have been scares and stumbles over the years; they’ve even attended anticipatory grief counseling when Fierro’s health has been bad Eaves has been awed by the way in which his wife continues to live “I feel like she’s driving the car and I’m hanging on for dear life and loving every second of it because she is making sure that she lives life to the fullest,” Eaves said they know that there’s no way of telling how many days they’ll ultimately have together the transplant and the immunosuppressants she takes Fierro has been told her risk of cancer has increased exponentially any infection she gets brings with it a chance of rejection from her new lungs the couple is focused on quality of life over quantity They plan to take on the Narrows at Zion National Park in the near future and Fierro has designs on seeing the Aurora Borealis from Icelandic skies She also intends to continue with aerial dance and has begun to explore musical theatre and I was told my entire life that I couldn’t sing … I couldn’t hold a tune for very long,” Fierro said “One of the things I’ve been doing since the transplant is singing and I’ve actually auditioned for three shows.” the fact that someone else died so she could live remains front of mind Fierro doesn’t know much about her donor beyond the fact that she died young and also had an interest in dance but she’s exchanged letters with the woman’s family and she’s eternally grateful for the gift she has been given “I’m just trying my hardest to make sure she’s proud and I’m trying my hardest to finish up my bucket list and do things for her,” Fierro said Utah people homeless services advocates and medical teams inspected a property this afternoon under cooperative circumstances from the property owner due serious life safety concerns and unfit living conditions resulting in an issue to vacate the property,” the Ogden City Fire Department announced in a Facebook post late Tuesday afternoon Ogden Fire Marshall Kevin Brown told the Standard-Examiner that the incident started with a 911 call for a separate issue “Our fire crews responded to a 911 call for service at that address and had some concerns with the living conditions and the fire safety conditions which prompted me to make an inspection,” he said “It was determined that the building was not being used legally and it wasn’t safe for people to sleep there Brown said the building is many people due to poor living conditions has been a rarity in Ogden “I can think of only one other time in my career we’ve had to actually vacate residents out and that we weren’t able to make concessions and make it safe for people to sleep there,” he said it was a building that was never designed to be a residential structure — it had that going against it as well — so there was no way to make it safe with a quick fix Brown said the owner of the property has been cooperative and will be meeting with fire officials in the coming days to discuss improvements that could be made to the was found with more than 150 dogs on their property KUTV 2News Natalie Wadas spoke with people in the neighborhood along Jefferson Avenue who are asking: how didn't anybody know this was going on "I would think I would hear that many dogs barking but I haven't heard anything," said Kelsey Bell People on Jefferson Avenue said their street was blocked off Tuesday afternoon after officers from the Ogden Police Department and multiple animal services agencies showed up for a welfare check that revealed 152 dogs on a property nearby "I just seen a whole bunch of police cars and a lot of activity going on a few houses down and I seen dogs coming in and out," said Angela Allen "There was quite a few that had the hazmats on and they were dressed in white and I'm like "Then we did see people coming and they were putting white jumpsuits on—so they like went into the house with leashes and then they were putting white jumpsuits on," Bell said "I figured it had to be pretty bad." Bell said police pulled up a horse trailer to the home's front yard "I assume they filled up the horse trailer and then we had Roy Animal Control and Ogden Animal Control here and they came and got crates out of their cars as well." Some neighbors think this might not be the first time this home has had this issue: "I went to leave the house and talked to one of my neighbors and she said that a couple of years ago he had 100 dogs in his basement and so she was pretty sure that was happening again because she had walked past the house and it smelled really bad just on the way to the mailbox," Bell said KUTV 2News asked police whether this was the first call they had received about this property: "Right now it's currently under investigation and there's not really anything else I can release as far as the property and the owners," said Lieutenant Will Farr with the Ogden Police Department "Because if this just happened a couple of years ago how did we get in the same situation?" Bell asked When news broke about the severity of this situation "How did anybody else not know about that with all the dogs barking how did the dogs go to the bathroom?" Allen asked "And what were they doing with the dogs Farr told KUTV that all dogs rescued were alive "It was an all-hands-on-deck type thing and there was also several patrol officers There was a lot of joint effort that went on to make sure that the animals were safe and taken care of." They are being treated at the Weber County Animal Shelter "All 152 dogs were safely removed from the property and they're currently receiving veterinary care KUTV did reach out to the animal shelter to find out more about adoptions for these dogs Those interested in adoption are encouraged to monitor Weber County Animal Services for updates (Megan Brugger contributed to this report.) Eighteen participants sent an unsigned letter to the mayor and City Council the day after that training expressing "great concern regarding our chief of police "Chief Eynon has been a captain in a previous department and the chief of North Ogden just under a year Any true leader would never participate in an event like this embarrassed the department and lost credibility with his subordinates," the letter said A letter obtained through public record request signed by 18 participants of a North Ogden police department DUI training on Feb and sent to the mayor and council the day after (Photo: North Ogden)They were planning on participating in an exercise to maintain their Peace Officer Standards and Training certification but "what transpired was a drunken party involving the chief of police Kara Mueller and other city employees." While Boyette was "impaired and stumbling around," his wife "had to help those that were sick," the participants said A text message from Eynon to Mueller indicated his wife attended the training Kara Mueller was the training coordinator over the class She was also responsible for pouring the alcoholic drinks for the participants," the letter says Information following that statement was redacted the letter states "at least five people drinking alcohol could not participate due to the level of intoxication," which made it it so that some officers only got one chance to conduct field sobriety tests "This caused the officers in attendance to not receive the appropriate training for DUI detection This also shorted hours for each one in attendance as they are required to maintain a specific number of hours for their certification at POST," the letter says saying "no one will ever look at Chief Eynon the same He did not represent the city of North Ogden in a professional manner it should have been to oversee not lose his dignity The tax dollars wasted on a drunken party instead of a professional well-executed training is disheartening." North Ogden denies using any municipal funds for the alcohol but has not revealed how or where it was obtained The waivers signed by participants say the police department provided the alcohol but it remains unclear what funds were used for its purchase officers are to keep their professional and personal life unsullied Mueller have honored this portion of the oath they swore to uphold They are an embarrassment to the city," the letter said "Many of us in attendance are ashamed and dismayed by the events that unfolded Other officers from several agencies are aware and making fun of the lack of leadership displayed trust will be lost throughout the community." Eynon was placed on administrative leave on Feb 20 a "formal request was made to (the Utah Department of Public Safety) after a complaint was submitted to the mayor's office alleging misconduct," according to a memo from Call Call issued a formal reprimand following the investigation "The city sees this as a chance for you to recenter on your role as the leader of the police department and acknowledge that this misjudgment on your part has impacted the police department in a severe way," that reprimand states Eynon was disciplined for conduct unbecoming of an officer and improper oversight with an undisclosed reduction in salary effective March 23 and continued probation until the end of the year Call issued another statement: "We have determined that while Chief Eynon exhibited a lapse in judgment by volunteering to get intoxicated and this incident does not define his overall commitment and service to our community." responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Jefferson Avenue, which was the same home involved in a similar story KSL TV reported on in 2012 and another four were found later that evening Authorities said there were also some cats there but animal control was not successful in rounding any of them up The woman who ran the rescue that helped clear the home the first time said the owner of the home struggles with mental health “He just doesn’t have the financial means to get them all spayed and neutered and stuff like that.” Gordon said the man saw himself as his own animal rescue but sometimes he would struggle between feeding the dogs and paying his bills really sad that this has happened to him again,” Gordon said The man didn’t face charges in 2012 — instead he turned the animals over and went to counseling FILE — About 150 dogs were rescued from a home in Ogden for the second time after the dogs were found in extremely poor conditions This photo was taken of the home the first time authorities became involved in 2012 were down the street when they noticed what was happening Tuesday “And how did it get to this point?” animal services from three separate divisions were called out to help this time “Due to the scale and severity of the situation additional support was requested from Weber County Animal Services Roy Animal Services and Draper Animal Services,” police said The dogs were safely removed from the home and were taken to receive “veterinary care evaluations and shelter support.” They’ll be put up for adoption after they undergo medical treatment and shelter protocol “It was heartbreaking to know that these animals  — I don’t know if they were mistreated There’s no way anybody could take care of that many animals KSL TV attempted to contact the homeowner on Wednesday by knocking on the door but a strong odor could be picked up just outside its doors after over 150 dogs were rescued from it for at least the second time “Community members interested in adopting are encouraged to monitor Weber County Animal Services for updates on availability and adoption procedures,” police said Animal services put out an urgent request for fosters to help house the dogs during their time of recovery saying that it was adding the rescued dogs to an already completely full facility It also encouraged the adoption of other dogs already posted on its website Anyone interested in fostering was encouraged to call the shelter at 801-675-8590 or email foster.wcas@gmail.com Police said the case was still under investigation as of Wednesday playWill Liverpool raid Bournemouth this summer (1:33)Gab Marcotti and Mark Ogden discuss the possibility of Liverpool going in for both Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen Liverpool are on a high right now and not just because they clinched the Premier League (though They went into 2024-25 thinking it was going to be a transition season under new manager Arne Slot (and away from club legend Jürgen Klopp) new sporting director Richard Hughes and -- returning to the club in a new role -- chief executive of football operations Michael Edwards hired investment banks to explore a sale of all or part of the club Instead, they won the league by a sizeable margin, two of the three big free agents extended their deals with only a small uplift in salary (Alexander-Arnold has not), and they managed to do this after a summer in which they made just one signing (Federico Chiesa who saw just 38 minutes of Premier League football) We believe they are in a very strong position in terms of financial sustainability requirements, considering last year's poor showing reflected a season in which they had no Champions League football and had to pay severance costs to Klopp and his staff in the region of £10m they opened the redeveloped part of the Anfield Road stand which should boost revenue by up to £15m per season and Liverpool have plenty of space under Profit and Sustainability Rules and we think they could go as high as £150m in terms of net spend this season because this year's success in some ways was the final flourish of Klopp's side and going forward last summer's inactivity meant certain situations were not addressed and the club's drop-off in the final few months of the season suggests that they will likely want to rotate more next year Gab and Mark suggest some tough but forward-thinking changes in order for the Reds to remain ahead. Steven Halliwell | MI News/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesKeep/dump ground rulesRemember: This is our assessment of what we think the club should do It's not what we think the club will actually do we take into account what we know of the club as well as its financial situation and any other factor that we think will impact personnel moves or where we think our rationale is worth explaining Ogden: You'd think you'd extend his deal as he's entering the final two years, but I would wait to do that. They gave Giorgi Mamardashvili a very long contract for a reason and there's no harm in waiting to see how things develop Let's not forget he considered an offer from Saudi Arabia last summer Marcotti: Assuming he's happy to stay at the club long-term you extend his contract another two seasons as he's still one of the best in the world Kelleher, left, is likely the odd man out for Liverpool this summer when it comes to goalkeeper. Andrew Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesCaoimhín Kelleher (26 he's not getting the chance at Anfield and it's time for him to move on He's an excellent keeper: The only thing is they have to be realistic they wanted £30m for him -- that's not going to happen in today's market Marcotti: It's a tricky one, because Kelleher knows that having given Mamardashvili that long contract, they don't see him as Alisson's long-term successor. With a World Cup coming up though he could also sit on his backside and leave on a free I think given how tricky the goalkeeper transfer market is and how he has only a year left Marcotti: I'm generally of the view that your No 3 should either be a veteran who doesn't mind never playing or a very young keeper learning the ropes if not keep him around until his contract expires Ogden: Given the fee and the contract they gave him if they'll feel he's maybe a bit inexperienced at this level and if Kelleher ends up staying Marcotti: I don't think experience is an issue for Mamardashvili but I agree that if Kelleher sticks around which seems a bit cruel and unnecessary for a guy who's been so good to the club Marcotti: This is his fourth stint out on loan and he's started just four league games Obviously somebody really liked him at some point or they wouldn't have given him such a massive contract But obviously he hasn't been able to show it and he's not going to show it at Liverpool And in fact I'm surprised they let it get all the way down to where he only had a year to go Marcotti: He missed a chunk of 2023-24 through injury and I guess this past season they were focused on Van Dijk and you wonder if maybe some other big clubs have been keeping tabs on his situation it's hard to explain how we got to this point Konaté, left, has gotten notably better this season under Slot. The key now is for Liverpool to secure him to a long-term contract. Photo by Carl Recine/Getty ImagesVirgil van Dijk (33 2027)Ogden: It was the only decision they could make and of the three (Van Dijk they kept the two they really wanted to keep Marcotti: I think it's great that his contract was extended and that it's only a two-year deal at a reasonable price I wouldn't say it was the only decision they could make though; had he been holding out for three or four years or been demanding a big pay bump I think they would have been ready to move on Verdict: Extended his contract on April 17 Ogden: He's versatile and useful to have around given that he can play across the back four There's no point talking contract extension until he proves his fitness again Ogden: Newcastle United and others have shown strong interest in him Slot doesn't play him much and you could get a very good fee -- as much as £25m -- for his services Marcotti: I think we both agree Liverpool need another central defender who can be Van Dijk's successor If Slot thinks it's never going to be Quansah then you move him on because he's too good to be a fourth option and if he doesn't play But I was surprised he played so little last year; I think that's going to change next year as Slot rotates more There's going to be a lot of disruption at the back Marcotti: He's a reliable backup and we both think they're going to look to bring in a starting caliber player, which means that either he or Andy Robertson are going to move on I would shift him rather than Robertson at this stage Ogden: If they bring in a top-tier left back, then Robertson is not going to want to be on the bench, so of the two he's the one you let go. You don't want to have a Jordan Henderson situation where he can't handle not playing but he's become more defensive-minded and could be a good alternative to whoever comes accommodate him for all he's done for the club But if he's OK staying and moving on a free next summer You won't get much for him anyway given his age salary and the fact he has just a year left on his contract play2:01Could Trent Alexander-Arnold decide to stay at Liverpool?Mark Ogden discusses the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold reversing course from Real Madrid and stay on Merseyside Ogden: Let him go, no hard feelings. But I think he'll be making a mistake, from a football perspective, if he joins Real Madrid Marcotti: I imagine there's a number for him in terms of years and wages the club were comfortable with and he's turned it down because he thinks he can go to Real Madrid I'd keep the offer out there until I sign a replacement and he can't just be handed the starting job Then if he becomes the long-term right back The risk with not extending him is that he becomes Slot's first choice and then you're stuck having to negotiate on those terms when his existing deal is winding down If he's flying in the first half of the season Verdict: Split between keep and extend his contract Sign up for ESPN+ Ogden: Wild to think he was still on their books He did his part for the club when he was needed Marcotti: He was very highly rated as a youngster but he has been very unlucky with injuries Ogden: Morecambe were relegated out of the Football League so that suggests he won't be playing for Liverpool in the Champions League anytime soon Marcotti: He's one of the stories of the season You'll need to think about a new deal soon Ogden: He has been a revelation under Slot and has really stepped up since the club missed out on Martín Zubimendi Ogden: It's pretty clear that Slot doesn't really rate him Marcotti: He made 17 Premier League appearances but the vast majority were substitutions at the end of games for a handful minutes but you'll want to upgrade the specialist reserve defensive midfield slot but obviously has been injured since January Keep him if you think you can give him playing time maybe he can fill the Endo role; otherwise Ogden: A top player who has started to add goals to his game Just looks like somebody who is developing and improving all the time Szoboszlai, middle, has been impressive at times for Liverpool this season, but our writers are divided as to whether he should be a long-term player for the Reds. GettyDominik Szoboszlai (24 but I would certainly be open to offers if you get a decent fee and you find the right replacement Marcotti: He cost a reported £60m in transfer fees which means you'd need at least £36m not to take a loss on him Throw in the fact that he's on Liverpool wages and I don't think you'll get that back unless you find another big club that really he has been good and there's enough to do in other positions that I don't think shifting Szoboszlai is a priority Ogden: He has had a good season and he's an England international I know you'll be cold and heartless about this but with Alexander-Arnold likely to be leaving I think it's important for Liverpool to have a local boy in the team and his success will inspire other kids to want to emulate him Ogden: He's in the "bomb squad" if Liverpool had such a thing and somebody will pay at least £20m in transfer fees to acquire his contract The difference with Endo is Elliott is 10 years younger and covers multiple positions in midfield and attack You don't need to extend him now but see where he is in six months or so Marcotti: He was a very good player before his injuries Ogden: It was really impressive when he made his breakthrough under Klopp but he has been unlucky with injuries and the loan to Salzburg didn't work out because of managerial changes Give him time and he could be one for the future Ogden: There's been a lot of noise around him and a new contract Marcotti: Obviously it will depend on what moves they make up front but he has played both through the middle and out wide and he scored 16 goals this year If he'll accept a short extension -- one or two years Verdict: Split between keep but do not extend his contract Díaz has been a steady performer for Liverpool, but his future looks uncertain at Anfield given his age. PAUL ELLIS/AFP via Getty ImagesCody Gakpo (25 2028)Marcotti: He and Gravenberch are the two guys who developed the most under Slot but it would have totally sent the wrong message for the club had Salah been allowed to leave after such a big season Marcotti: It was the right decision because it was the right price you pay him for what you think he's going to do Otherwise Robbie Fowler would still be under contract Verdict: Extended his contract on April 11 Ogden: Maybe you keep him around until you figure out what's happening with Darwin Núñez Marcotti: Assuming Núñez moves on and you replace him No point having him if you can't give him the minutes and with Salah ahead of him he's not going to play much he's on big wages and he'll want to play in a World Cup year I think you're lucky to get £30m in transfer fees for him if they decided to move him on Marcotti: I think you can probably get a little more given his age and given he's a high energy he's represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes Núñez's stock has declined since Slot came in as manager, making him a likely summer exit. Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty ImagesDiogo Jota (28 2027)Ogden: Wait and see before you extend but he has to be happy with a role as a reserve player Ogden: He never actually played for Sunderland he's injured and has been completing his rehab at Liverpool He's already committed to a long-term deal so Liverpool should focus on keeping him fit Liverpool have a ton of flexibility this summer They can overhaul the squad if they choose or they can make a couple of low-key additions but we feel you need to take a medium-term view and it would be a mistake to sit on your laurels We both agree that Liverpool will need to rotate their squad more next season to avoid showing the sort of fatigue they showed this year Gabriele Marcotti and Julien Laurens dive into the latest news and gossip, analyze matches with special guests, and give their perspective on the world of football. Stream now there's a clear decision to be made on Kelleher and Mamardashvili We'd lean toward keeping the latter and trying to move the former for a fee The third slot can go to a young in-house keeper or Jaros has been mentioned and would be a good addition Mark would shift him and look to raise between £20-25m in fees while Gab would keep him around as fourth central defender you look to shift either Tsimikas or Robertson largely due to the development of Gravenberch he played a lot of minutes in 2024-25 and you need a valid alternative Someone like Bajcetic or Morton could yet develop into one but we both feel it might be best to bring in a high-end creative midfielder who could offer an alternative to both Gravenberch or Mac Allister This is an area where they could use depth Mark would like to move Elliott on -- someone who could fetch a decent fee in return -- but Gab would hang on to him we both agree the club is due an upgrade on Núñez just how much depends on what they can raise by shifting Endo It's not unthinkable that they might push the boat out into the £80-100m range though it would have to be a good fit both in terms of playing with Salah and doing the off-the-ball work demanded by Slot Konaté is the immediate contract extension to deal with but in the next 18 months they will have to make decisions on Alisson which has already grown to be the second highest in the Premier League though the good news is that the pricey extensions for Van Dijk and Salah are only through 2027 Liverpool are in excellent shape: They can either tweak their title-winning squad or make significant changes OGDEN — A reckless driving incident over the weekend involved a child behind the wheel According to a press release from the Ogden Police Department sent late Sunday night Sunday morning of a reckless driver at the intersection of 21st Street and Wall Avenue The caller stated the vehicle was having difficulty maintaining a lane and that the driver appeared to be a young child “Subsequent investigation revealed that the incident originated in Clearfield where a 7-year-old boy had taken a family vehicle without parental knowledge,” the release said “The vehicle traveled through multiple jurisdictions before Ogden Police received the reckless driving complaint.” The release added that the Ogden Police Department attempted a traffic stop once Ogden police detectives traveled to Washington and arrested McAdams who was then extradited to Utah and booked into Weber County Jail on Tuesday for charges in two separate cases faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and rape first-degree felonies; and forcible sexual abuse related to DNA collected from the 16-year-old victim of a 1994 reported rape He is also charged with the rape of an 18-year-old homeless woman in 1997; in that case he faces one count each of aggravated kidnapping and rape Both cases were reexamined after Ogden police received a DNA match from the Utah Bureau of
