after their rise to the top—a place they often remember fondly Such was the case this past week when one of country music’s biggest stars gave a shoutout to the longtime Orangevale music venue who recently performed to a sold-out crowd at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” this past week As he talked about his early days in the music industry the now multi-time Country Music Association (CMA) and Country Music Television (CMT) award winner mentioned the venue his appearance nearby on Greenback Lane wasn’t one for the history books but it stands out in his memory as part of his musical journey—one of today’s classic rags-to-riches stories and no one could have predicted the success he would one day achieve He explained that only five people showed up for his show with one of them accounting for three tickets “I was playing just outside of Sacramento back in the day when I was doing anything I could to book a show at this place called The Boardwalk,” the artist shared and the concession guy—and those were all the same person ‘Don’t even open the door.’” Although Jelly Roll may have canceled his appearance on the iconic stage he still performed for the few attendees—in his motorhome which he described as far from glamorous at the time “Imagine like a 1975 Cheech and Chong RV,” he said “There was smoke coming out of the hood It smelled like Willie Nelson and cheap beer Now coming off his highly popular Beautifully Broken Tour Jelly Roll’s rise to fame is a story of persistence and versatility influenced by Southern rap legends like Three 6 Mafia His grassroots approach—selling mixtapes out of his car—built a foundation for his career with notable releases like *The Plain Shmear Tape* (2003) and the *Gamblin’ on a White Boy* series (2004-2011) His breakthrough came in 2010 with the viral success of “Pop Another Pill,” a collaboration with Memphis rapper Lil Wyte that garnered over 6.3 million YouTube views This success paved the way for Jelly Roll’s membership in the hip-hop group SNO and collaborations with artists such as Struggle Jennings & Women initially featured Waffle House branding leading to legal action and a memorable cover change The star isn’t shy as he talks about is troubled years and time in jail as well sharing his strong faith and will to change.  Jelly Roll’s career took an unexpected turn when he ventured into country and rock music earning critical acclaim and commercial success in both genres His Grand Ole Opry debut in 2021 marked a major milestone “Son of a Sinner,” which topped the country charts in 2023 He also made history with a 25-week run at No 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart Jelly Roll’s versatility was further highlighted by his sold-out show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena in 2022 where he performed to 15,000 fans alongside artists from both his hip-hop and country worlds His success culminated at the 2023 CMT Music Awards solidifying his position as a breakout star across multiple genres Area residents have taken to social media since the national shoutout this week “Feel like he should redo the show as a tribute to this Bet the turnout will be more than the five and a door guy,” commented Morgan Anderson The operators of The Boardwalk also shared the news and expressed their gratitude for the impromptu mention It is true—everyone deserves to be saved,” the venue posted on its Facebook page Posted by | Feb 10, 2025 9:40 am | , and three family pets were rescued and resuscitated after a house fire broke out Monday morning in Orangevale Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the Folsom Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to contain the blaze to the home of origin Emergency crews both agencies were dispatched at approximately 8:13 a.m According to Sacramento Metro Fire Battalion Chief Park Wilbourn at the scene the fire originated in a back bedroom of the home before spreading into the attic “We did have a pretty well-seated fire in the back bedroom,” Wilbourn told Folsom Times at the scene. One person did suffer some smoke inhalation injuries so we’ve subsequently transported that individual to get assisted care.” Two cats were also pulled from the home and resuscitated by firefighters at the scene The cats received oxygen treatment and stimulation by firefighters at the scene and were doing well A family dog was also safely evacuated from the building “We actually have one over there that’s continuing to be placed on oxygen and stimulated,” Wilburn said “So that’s a good thing.” Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures ensuring that damage was limited to the home where the fire started “The fire was held to the home of origin did not spread to adjacent structures,” Wilbourn added Investigators are working to determine the cause and exact origin of the fire Crews remained at the scene throughout the morning inspecting the home for hidden hot spots and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished Wilbourn emphasized the importance of functional smoke alarms and having a practiced escape plan in place for emergencies The residents of the home were alerted to the fire and had exited by the time firefighters arrived after initially attempting to put out the flames themselves “They were already out by the time we got here so they were already alerted to it,” Wilburn said “It sounds like the smoke had just started billowing inside so much so that it overwhelmed them while they were trying to extinguish it themselves which is what we want our community to do.” Wilbourn urged residents to leave immediately and call 911 if a fire becomes uncontrollable “If you’re beyond the ability to safely put that fire out and get to a safe location,” said Wilbourn “That’s why it’s so important to check your smoke alarms and practice your own fire escape plan.” A total of 15 firefighting units responded to the incident along with multiple units from Sacramento Metro Fire and fire investigators Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire No additional injuries were reported and the condition of the individual that was transported remains unknown at this time A section of Chestnut Avenue was completely closed off to traffic for some time during and after the response as crews fully secured the scene.  Posted by | Jan 30, 2025 4:28 pm | , They’re back performing locally after a European tour earlier this year the Sacramento-based Zach Waters Band will headline a night of entertainment at Orangevale’s Jan’s Lounge The Zach Waters Band is a rock and blues trio from Sacramento and frontman Zach Waters on guitar and vocals Taking inspiration from classic artists such as Jimi Hendrix Waters brings his own twist to the classic rock and blues-driven genre “A lot of people out there claim to be rock ’n’ roll but rock ’n’ roll is so much more than a couple of hours of music on a Friday night Rockin’ and rollin’ is a lifestyle—an energy that cannot be denied,” Waters said “Rock ’n’ roll is about loud guitars and coming together to fight the challenges life throws at us So let’s all come together and let the music take us far away.” The Zach Waters Band has shared the stage with acts such as Dokken Waters is also an endorsed artist for Ernie Ball Music Man readers of Sacramento News & Review voted the band the best blues/rock act in the Sacramento region they were nominated for three Sacramento Music Awards (Blues the band was nominated for another Sacramento Music Award for Rock Artist of the Year Located at 9222 Greenback Lane, Jan’s Lounge isn’t just about live music.
