Shiloh Hendrix's fundraising page initially had a financial goal set for $50,000
As Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) targets international students across the country through detainment and visa termination
the University has made a concerted effort to publicize its updated frequently asked questions (FAQs) website
“Immigration and Non-Citizen FAQs for Students
Notably, the recently expanded FAQ site is only accessible with a Princeton login
the updated webpage has been publicized across campus via posters and tent cards
as well as online in a University-sponsored advertisement in The Daily Princetonian’s May 2 newsletter and on the University’s official Instagram account.
The page, previously expanded in February
provides guidance and resources on immigration-related concerns
and support services available to international and undocumented members of the University community
The site states that its content is “for informational purposes only” and “not intended as a substitute for consultation with an attorney about specific matters.”
Ramped-up efforts to publicize these FAQs come after months of silence on the part of the University concerning the Trump administration’s efforts to target international students
The University has not publicly announced the number of students who have been targeted by ICE regarding their legal statuses
and it is the only Ivy League institution not to do so.
which is “under review for updates,” encourages international community members unable to reenter the United States to contact the Davis International Center during business hours and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) after hours
Those detained by ICE should also contact the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and — if applicable — their own attorneys.
The updated page affirms that the University may provide financial and legal assistance to community members whose immigration statuses are revoked because of “controversial” teaching or scholarship or involvement in protests and demonstrations
It states that “removal actions against current students and employees who are not U.S
citizens premised on those individuals’ viewpoints threaten the University’s mission” and that the OGC will make case-by-case recommendations to the University on whether to take legal action in response.
The FAQs additionally advise faculty and staff members on how to respond to various forms of immigration enforcement
including searches and requests for information or documents
the site instructs them to “politely inform the officer or agent that [they] are not authorized to provide such documents
or personal information” and contact the OGC and DPS
Students are explicitly advised not to permit ICE employees into University buildings or consent to a search of their dorm rooms
The page includes a list of dozens of contacts for campus
“Students facing uncertainty as a result of their immigration status may find … particularly helpful.”

it’s not just about having good material; it also has to be the right moment
so that the complexity of getting it right doesn’t lead to failure or hesitation
while some may think the right collaboration is enough to warrant success
Beck maintains that there’s more to it than that
Several familiar names surface in the depths of almost any discourse about groundbreaking guitarists who shaped modern rock
And while the different ways that Jimi Hendrix
and a handful of others no doubt changed the landscape in unimaginable ways
and reinvented those who rippled through the space long before in the rockabilly genre
with names like Gene Vincent shaping the sounds of those we still hear about today
This was especially true for Beck and Page
who looked to figures like Vincent and James Burton the way many enthusiastic music lovers do: with a level of excitement so palpable they could barely sit still
each comparing different versions of their favourite tunes to try to replicate the same magic emanating from the record player
“That sort of seemed to be a common ground between most guitarists around that time,” Page recalled
“To see how well other guys could cut this solo.”
That said, beyond the effervescence of feeling like their heroes
Page and Beck soon became privy to another beast that makes its presence known the moment everything suddenly becomes a whole lot more fickle: circumstance
This became particularly notable following the 1983 ARMS Charity Concerts
Aside from providing a special moment with Clapton
Beck and Page performing for the first time since The Yardbirds
it also saw Beck facing another musical convergence he hadn’t necessarily anticipated
“The ARMS tour was a great thing, but then [Paul Rodgers] was playing with Jimmy Page, in a band called The Firm,” Beck recalled to Fuzz
noting how the spark initiated several ideas that could have led to varying formations
but Page somehow got in there first with Rodgers
it wouldn’t be too wise a move to go that route,” he continued
the success—or lack of it—meant Page seemingly jumped the gun
with Beck observing something with so much promise in the early stages falling victim
to poor timing and less-than-standard material
I don’t think we’re going to produce much in a couple of days in a rehearsal studio.”
Beck understood the significance of getting all the other factors right
with a sudden hyper-awareness that it wasn’t enough to be one of the best guitarists of the modern age
while supergroups sometimes serve unparalleled cultural moments
it’s okay to recognise when it’s time to simplify and refocus
Another moving part in the future of Jon Moxley as the AEW World Champion is potential Owen Hart Cup winner
Should Page pick up the Owen Cup and Strickland take down Moxley
fans could find themselves back around to a new installment of the fiery feud between the former AEW World Champions
the other finalist in the tournament – Will Ospreay – would also make a tremendous foe for Jon Moxley at the biggest stadium show in the United States that AEW has ever run
seeing Ospreay topple Moxley would likely also be well-recieved

Jake Holmes is suing Jimmy Page again over songwriting credit for Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused." He's named the Sony Pictures film studio as one of several co-defendants, after noticing that the track was miscredited in the Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary
The complaint was filed in California federal court and alleges copyright infringement and breach of contract
Holmes claims that two early live recordings of the song were included in the movie without permission or payment
Page and his co-defendants "willfully infringed the Holmes composition by falsely claiming that the Holmes composition is the Page composition," according to the suit
"by purporting to license use in the film of the Holmes composition as if it was the Page composition
and by collecting license fees for use of the Holmes composition in the film."

Holmes said an earlier cease-and-desist order had been ignored. He'd originally filed a copyright infringement suit in 2011 after Page took sole credit for the song over a period of decades, first with the Yardbirds and then with Led Zeppelin
Page's Yardbirds bandmate Jim McCarty said they first heard Holmes' original when he opened for the group
"I wandered backstage to watch the support act and heard some quite pleasant folky songs," McCarty added
"Then they played this song in a minor key with a very haunting guitar run down
and I immediately thought it would suit us
I went down to a record store in Greenwich Village
and we worked out our version — later to be recorded by Zeppelin
becoming one of the classics of all time."
Holmes' complaint added that Page has released several other live versions of "Dazed and Confused" without proper credit or payment
and The Yardbirds: The Ultimate Live at the BBC

Aloha uses on-device processing to check for web page updates so you don’t have to
BY Jared Newman
My worst workday habit is that I’m a compulsive web page checker
Throughout the day, I’m constantly refreshing the same handful of sites for updates. I’ll check the metrics on my newsletters
and click through some tech news sites—and that’s before even getting to email and social media
So I was pretty eager to try Aloha Browser’s new “Snips” feature
which uses AI to periodically monitor web pages and notify you when things change
I figured that by having AI check web pages on my behalf
I could avoid the urge to do so myself and be better at staying on task
but both Aloha and I still have some work to do
Snips is currently available in the desktop version of Aloha for Mac and Windows
appearing as a little box-and-scissors icon next to the address bar
Clicking the icon brings up a selector tool for highlighting the part of the page you want to keep track of
Choose how often Aloha should check for updates (the default is once per day
but you can go as frequently as every five minutes)
then write a sentence describing what changes it should watch for
if you wanted to monitor the price on a product page
you could write something like “notify me when the price falls below $300.”
I’ve set up a handful of Snips to cut down on compulsive page checking:
Aloha uses on-device AI to analyze page content
then takes routine snapshots of the page to see if things change
it uses a mix of on-device AI processing and large language models from Grok and OpenAI
but Aloha says no browsing data leaves your device in most cases
(The browser does send some especially complex tasks to a remote server for processing
but requires permission first and deletes the data immediately after.)
they’ll appear as screenshots on Aloha’s new tab page
but you can also shuffle and resize the screenshots into a kind of glanceable information dashboard
There are plenty of other ways to monitor information online. I use CamelCamelCamel for price alerts on Amazon
and you can always turn on push notifications for email and social media
But Aloha’s Snips feature is a useful alternative because of how granular it can get
You can set up price alerts on any retail site without sharing your contact information
and you can limit social media notifications to specific types of responses or reactions
The alerts come through the Mac or Windows notification tray
so your email inbox and phone notifications stay uncluttered
That’s not to say Aloha’s Snips feature is perfect
It’s subject to the same vagaries as other generative AI tools
which means things may not always work as expected
I’ve experienced some instances of false positive notifications when nothing changes
or repeat notifications for things I’ve been alerted to already
Aloha’s page refresh capabilities also don’t seem to work 100% of the time
One snippet I set up for the “Newest” section on Techmeme refused to update
and Aloha showed error messages while trying to update standard Reddit pages
I had to create a snippet on old.reddit.com instead.) If the information you need requires extra clicking or scrolling after reloading the page
I still have to provide the appropriate degree of willpower
I don’t need Aloha to check Reddit every five minutes
but if I set the interval to be too infrequent
I’ll likely get antsy and start checking it myself
Aloha is not my main browser, and it was not really on my radar until the Snips feature arrived. It’s made by a small team based in Cyprus, and touts an emphasis on privacy, but I still prefer the power-user features in the likes of Vivaldi and Floorp
it’s easy enough to keep running in the background to discourage my compulsive checking habit
I’m going to keep doing that to take a little of the weight off my mind

This story was updated at 12:30 on 5/2/2025 to add additional comment from the Department of Health and Human Services
On Thursday, the Department of Health and Human Services published a 400-page document entitled "Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices."
The review's authors are not being named by HHS. According to a press release
the names "are not initially being made public in order to help maintain the integrity" of a post-publication peer review process
HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a statement to NPR
"The contributors to this report represent a broad spectrum of political viewpoints
including those with liberal political views." He did not answer NPR's specific questions about the number of authors
The current approach for transgender youth, endorsed by all major medical associations in the U.S.
is to affirm a young person's gender identity and give their family the option of medical interventions like puberty blockers and hormone therapy
The report describes that approach as fundamentally misguided
Its authors conclude that doctors and clinics that provide gender-affirming care have "fallen short of their duty to prioritize the health interests of young patients."
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller used the term "barbaric" when describing gender-affirming medical interventions at the White House on Thursday
It is medical malpractice," he said during a press conference on Thursday
president of the American Academy of Pediatrics
wrote that the organization is "deeply alarmed" by the new HHS document
"This report misrepresents the current medical consensus and fails to reflect the realities of pediatric care," she wrote
She asserted that the report was not credible because it relied "on select perspectives and a narrow set of data."
She added that AAP was not consulted on the report, but that its recommendations were "inaccurately" characterized throughout. (The official AAP recommendation says
that transgender youth should "have access to comprehensive
and developmentally appropriate health care that is provided in a safe and inclusive clinical space.")
The report's conclusion that gender-affirming care for youth should be curtailed is not surprising given that the report was commissioned in an executive order entitled "Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation." It reads: "Across the country today
medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child's sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions." This trend
Some of these efforts have been blocked in the courts
In tone and form, the HHS report mirrors the Cass Review
last year and commissioned by the National Health Service
(The name "Cass" is cited 149 times in the HHS report.) Like the new HHS report
looks at available evidence and concludes the benefits of gender-affirming care are overstated
But Cass was also the public face of the review process
and she spent four years conducting interviews with transgender young people
parents and clinicians to prepare the report
HHS did not answer NPR's question about how long its lengthy report had been in the works
"The purpose of this piece of propaganda is to give the veneer of science," says a physician who provides gender-affirming care in a state where it remains legal
NPR agreed not to name the doctor because they did not have permission from their employer to speak with the media
The doctor added that the anonymous authors of the report and the politicians who commissioned it "have already said what they think — they don't think being trans is real
they don't think that trans people should be allowed to do what they want with their bodies
they think that gender is this immutable concept
and they have absolutely no curiosity about whether that might not be true for everybody."
About the anonymity of the reports authors
"HHS stands firm in its decision to withhold the names of the contributors to this report in order to protect them from intimidation tactics and undue pressure campaigns
preventing contributors from making independent judgments and engaging in honest peer reviews."
On social media, Kristen Waggoner, president of the Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, praised the report and said that it "should lead to the closure of every gender clinic in America
Doctors who perpetrate these experiments on children should lose their medical licenses and be sued for damages."

The most remarkable encounters surface when they are least likely to happen
Emily Beauchamp experienced this fact to her delight
This fateful episode surfaced during what began as a dull as dishwater study night at Montclair State University’s Sprague Library
Emily shuffled into the library’s first floor quiet room for some serious studying
The Simone Beauvoir look-alike knew it was high time to do some highbrow reading
Emily faced a menacing midterm in her graduate French Perspectives class
The stakes were higher than a bet at a high-limit Monte Carlo roulette table
The Francophile needed a good grade to ace French Perspectives
Such a feat would increase the chances of landing that state department internship
The mind-boggling midterm loomed less than a week away
Emily had some Maginot Line wide gaps to fill in her course knowledge
She felt she had a snowball’s chance in the French Riveria of coasting through the exam
that is cold comfort for the full night of cramming that laid ahead of her
The granular ground in her French Perspectives class contained more ups and downs than a Tour de France bicycle race
The graduate student plopped her Montclair State University logo tote on the table
Emily’s bag had softcovers on sophisticated subjects which soared over her head like Mont Blanc
The titles boasted highfalutin’ names such as intentionality
Emily had to digest voluminous matter that was more thought-revoking than thought-provoking
It was small wonder that Emily’s first tour de force was to stare at Cole Hall through the study room’s bay window
Her impending challenge had her more at sea than Jacques Cousteau’s submersible
Friday evening at the Sprague Library bore the golden opportunity for a diamond-in-the-rough French Perspectives student to read
And that silver lining was worth its weight in platinum
Emily yanked the first foe from her tote to duel with
The beast of a book was entitled “The ontological impact of intentionality in phenomenology.” This charming title’s text drifted on longer than the Loire
That was a surefire guarantee to have any French major treading water
She began reading this monograph with as much relish as being stuck in a Paris traffic jam
But the next development was about to come from nowhere like a breakneck Train à Grand Vitesse
The graduate student gazed around the study room to make a fortuitous find
An intriguing character had sat down at table about 25 feet away
This individual was as far from the average university student as a Sorbonne savant
She stood out as gracefully as the Eiffel Tower
Emily immediately felt attuned to this stranger’s wavelength
The mystique piquing woman resembled a middle-aged version of the late intellectual Susan Sontag
She wore a maroon beret with a matching color business dress
Even more captivating were her appearance and mannerisms
contemplative nods and pensive postures conveyed intellectuality as convincingly as an Academie Franҫaise lecturer
The manner in which this woman stared at her softcover left no doubt about her brain power
And this person was stoking a desire in Emily to exchange phone numbers
The graduate student dropped all concern about her midterm like a used Paris metro ticket
She was too distracted by the appealing situation at hand
She jotted down the quixotic scenarios that sprouted from her mind like the Latona Fountain at the Versailles Palace
She saw herself swapping ideas with this woman over café au lait and macarons at Pierre And Michel’s bakery in Ridgewood
She pictured herself traveling with her to Quebec City’s old section and onward to Paris’ quaint Montmartre
Emily dismissed her reveries as being as absurd as a Dada art piece
nothing was coloring the graduate student’s perspective about this wonder-inducing woman
Emily began to notice that there was literally something in way she moved
The stranger began flashing flirtatious eyes at Emily
Each repeated overture sent goose bumps shooting through Emily
“Is something really happening to me?”
Little did the Francophile know that she was on the threshold of an incredible chapter of her life

MAFS Australia bride Jacqui has been caught out running a fan donation page
but the only contributor so far is herself
Jacqui has set herself up on Buymeacoffee.com
a site designed for people to donate coffees to each other
Jacqui’s account bio reads: “Cameo Queen
It lists that she has had just one person donate to her
But that’s where it gets a little awkward
because the only person to donate… is Jacqui
In the bit where the site prompts you to “say something nice” about the person you’re donating to
she’s written about herself in third person
It seems Jacqui might not be aware she didn’t make the donation anonymous
The comment was written underneath the very clear outing: “Jacqui Burfoot became a supporter.”
If you want to help the cause, her profile is still live. But, Jacqui has gone on and on and on about how much money she has and how money is so important to her. Since she got engaged to Clint from MAFS
she’s been posting about being a “passenger princess” and driving around in a Porsche
So, maybe the issue is that there are so much more important and in need causes out there? I’m not sure, just a thought. Her profile is here
