Attacker was a captive spirit on the right and he delivered unprescribed moments of quality despite Maresca’s rigid system
With 84 minutes gone at Stamford Bridge Cole Palmer did something off-grid
skittering past Conor Bradley near the corner flag
veering inside with that surprising gangly turn of speed and shooting from a fine angle and
going inside Alisson as he came for the cross
The ball curved away just enough to hit the post and bounce away from goal. Chelsea were 2-0 up at the time. Maybe he won’t get told off too much.
two minutes into stoppage time Chelsea were awarded a penalty
including Robert Sánchez who ran the length of the pitch just to make it quite clear this was also about him
It was Palmer’s first goal since 14 January
his first in 19 games to go with two assists in that time
Chelsea have been on an upturn in results in the last few weeks
But this is clearly not the greatest use of Cole Palmer
and another note in the lingering bad taste around this place at times
even have a full-back whose name translates as “Bad Taste”)
In his TV interview after the game Palmer talked about the “idiots and trolls” of social media
remains an unanswered theme of Enzo Maresca’s management
This was an excellent afternoon for Chelsea. Victory makes it four in a row at just the right time
They still need to go to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest

At times he had to cover at right-back for Moisés Caicedo as he wandered infield
Half an hour in he received a rolling wave of applause for chasing Cody Gakpo back towards his own goal
allowing it to breathe in a suffocating positional game
Palmer has looked like a ghost in the machine
given he is the only player in this team anywhere near his type and quality
For long periods his entire game was curling a pass into the run of Nicolas Jackson and watching
as a kind of random ricochet ball took place
But Palmer made Chelsea’s second goal by doing another unusual thing
easing away from Kostas Tsimikas and crossing into a messy penalty area where the ball was hacked and scuffed and blootered about until eventually it went in off Jarell Quansah
Darwin Núñez came on and bullocked about like a riderless horse in a jumps race
Roméo Lavia was excellent in the Chelsea midfield
And by the end Stamford Bridge was a happy place
able to sustain at all times that air of long-suffering calm
every disappointment is just another masterful feint in the unknowable masterplan of Enzo Maresca

he hit it straight at Jarell Quansah's groin and it bobbled backwards into the net
Palmer wanted a goal for himself and so nearly got it when he drifted in from the left and looked to sneak a shot under Alisson
only for his effort to bounce out off the post
It was all set up for a nervy finish when Van Dijk pulled one back
rising high to head home and reduce Chelsea's advantage to one
but the Blues were given the opportunity to restore their two-goal advantage when Quansah tripped Moises Caicedo inside the penalty area in stoppage time
and Palmer took the chance to end his 18-game goal drought with a superb spot kick in the final seconds

Cole Palmer hit back at "social media idiots" after ending his goal drought in Chelsea's 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday
Palmer scored 36 goals and registered 17 assists from his first 54 appearances, but he had just two assists and no goals in his 12 games before facing Liverpool.
Palmer told Sky Sports after the win: "We played very well as a team. They're champions for a reason, but we showed desire. I just felt normal. S--- happens ... sorry for my language. Obviously it happens, I went three months without scoring, but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team.
"Social media nowadays is full of idiots. I don't pay no attention to that. I've scored today and I'm happy, but it's only one and I've got to keep improving and try and reach new levels. Getting chances and not scoring, it feels like you're letting your team down. I feel like I am mentally strong anyway. I feel pride in helping the team and if I'm not doing that, I'm not happy."
Liverpool manager Arne Slot made six changes to his lineup after securing the Premier League title last weekend, but he denied his team had dropped its standards.
"For many things, I didn't see a drop off," Slot said. "Today, we could see why we have won this league -- we brought the ball out from the back really well.
"We came back after being 2-0 down and we didn't give up, but I have said before, margins are small. In some moments a few percentages were not there."
Chief football writer at Stamford BridgePublished4 May 2025Cole Palmer's talent is worthy of the highest Champions League stage
so it was fitting he was back to his brilliant best to push Chelsea closer to a return to Europe's elite tournament
The stunning form that inspired the Blues early in the season
making them title dark horses at one point
deserted him as he went 18 games in all competitions without a goal
leaving them with a fight on their hands to reach the top five
But when Chelsea and head coach Enzo Maresca needed him
Palmer was the inspiration behind their 3-1 win against newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge
carried an air of lethargy following the emotional high of securing their 20th title in front of an ecstatic Anfield last weekend
but Chelsea still needed to take advantage and their lavishly gifted 22-year-old was the catalyst
a hive of industry and creation that illustrated exactly why he is central to all of his side's hopes for success
His dip in form has become a widespread topic of conversation
but he insists his own feelings and attitude have never changed – along with his refusal to study any social media opinions
with a run through the centre before sending a sweeping pass out to Pedro Neto to set up Enzo Fernandez's third-minute opener
Palmer then produced a brilliant run to beat Kostas Tsimikas in the 56th minute
his low cross a source of such chaos in Liverpool's defence that captain Virgil van Dijk lashed his a clearance against team-mate Jarell Quansah and into his own net
He was unfortunate not to end his goal drought earlier than he did
when another superb incursion into the area ended with a shot from a tight angle that beat Liverpool keeper Alisson but hit the post
Palmer's dry spell ended with almost the last kick of the game
a penalty in the sixth minute of added time
and dispatched with confidence to end that worrying sequence stretching back to a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth on 14 January
The wait for a goal was over after 1,162 minutes

How 'absolutely outstanding' Palmer 'destroyed' Liverpool
These were Palmer's big moments but he had an overall impact on a game that was so crucial to Chelsea
who are now only behind fourth-placed Newcastle United on goals scored – 62 against 66 – with the same goal difference of plus-21
It perfectly sets up their visit to Tyneside on Sunday
This was a complete performance from Palmer
made the joint-most passes ending in the final third (13)
and had the joint-most touches in the opposition box (eight) of any Chelsea player
His worth is further underlined by the fact that
he now has 37 goals in 67 league games for Chelsea - putting him 10th on the club's all-time league top scorers list
"I just felt normal," said Palmer
I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team
it feels like you're letting your team down
I feel pride in helping the team and if I'm not doing that
"Social media nowadays is full of idiots
but it's only one and I've got to keep improving and try to reach new levels."
Head coach Maresca never doubted his key man as he added: "We see him day to day on the training ground and he is always the same
"He is unhappy when he is not scoring because he is someone who only wants to help the team and the club."
who was brought down by Quansah for Chelsea's late penalty
joined the chorus of praise as he said: "He deserves it
He helps us a lot even when he didn't score
He's a great guy and deserves everything."
The scale of the celebrations at Stamford Bridge among fans and players showed how much this victory meant
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez ran the length of the pitch to join in the scenes of elation as the forward disappeared under a collection of blue shirts
If this does prove to be the day when Palmer finally rediscovered his golden touch
it came with perfect timing for the Londoners
A place in the Champions League will make life a lot easier for Maresca and everyone at Chelsea as they contemplate defining fixtures against those fighting with them for those precious places to end their season
they will visit Nottingham Forest - currently three points behind in sixth place - on 25 May
These days will shape Chelsea's destiny for next season
And with Palmer in the sort of form that tormented Liverpool
his side will feel they are approaching the final fences in good shape

Football writer Alex Keble analyses Chelsea's 3-1 win over Liverpool
For most of the 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge it was the delirious Liverpool supporters making all the noise
as they continued celebrating their Premier League title-winning season
But after Cole Palmer lashed home a late penalty, the Chelsea fans decided to join them - and it was Palmer who stole the show
This was a wild and fun afternoon in the London sunshine
At the final whistle the rivalry between these teams melted away
as fans of both clubs danced together to the saxophone riff of Madness’s "One Step Beyond" song
Despite losing for only the third time in the league this season
and suffering their heaviest defeat under Arne Slot
the travelling Liverpool fans seemed to burst into chants of “championes” every five minutes
as well as serenading the Liverpool substitutes as they warmed up nearby - much to the enjoyment of the players
who seemed to hang around longer than they needed to
It isn’t often in football that everybody has a good day
Chelsea have beaten the champions to go three points clear of sixth-placed Nottingham Forest in the race for a top-five finish
and although the difficulty of their fixtures means the path to UEFA Champions League qualification remains narrow
Had Enzo Maresca’s side fallen short today, as many thought they would, they would have been on the precipice, knowing that defeat to Newcastle United next weekend could all but end their hopes of finishing in the top five
we now have the exciting possibility of Newcastle
Forest and Chelsea all locked on 63 points going into next weekend
gifting us with a mini-league that includes two head-to-heads to come
Chelsea travel to Newcastle on Saturday and host Forest on the final day
Aston Villa could still sneak through the middle
it is Maresca’s team who will decide the fate of this year’s race
All you need to know as Premier League clubs try to secure UEFA Champions League
Europa League or Conference League football
although not because of the performance itself; a clumsy
end-to-end match against a much-changed Liverpool side isn’t necessarily evidence of things to come
But the performances of Palmer and Romeo Lavia bode well for the final furlong
Palmer capped a brilliant midfield display with a penalty that ended an 18-match goalless run in all competitions
It was a moment that might bring an almighty sigh of relief
allowing Chelsea’s swaggering playmaker to rediscover the bravado that has eluded him for so long
He was exceptional in the second half in particular
and attempting audacious shots to evoke memories of the player Chelsea fans fell in love with
and had the joint-most touches in the opposition box (8) of any Chelsea player
“I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team,” Palmer told Sky Sports after the match
“I've scored today and I'm happy but it's only one and I've got to keep improving and try and reach new levels."
Lavia, too, was a leader on the pitch. It was his clever line-breaking pass that created the space ahead of the opener assisted by Pedro Neto and scored by Enzo Fenandez
providing the kind of No 6 performance that had the visitors dreaming of what might have been
Liverpool were widely reported to be interested in Lavia in the summer of 2023. Lavia, plagued by injuries since he left Southampton
“You can come up with all the tactics in the world, but it’s the intensity that makes the difference,” Arne Slot told reporters after the match
That’s a fair assessment of how things felt for Liverpool
where the champions looked passive and disjointed thanks to Slot’s rotations
Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, and Wataru Endo didn’t quite click
leaving big spaces for Lavia and Palmer to control
Returning the image of the opening goal above
Liverpool’s midfielders are out of position
leaving space for Palmer once Lavia has broken the lines
Perhaps these flaws were to be expected. Liverpool had made six changes, after all, and looked largely off the pace until a late flurry of action once Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and an impressive Conor Bradley were on the pitch
They became only the fourth team in Premier League history to their first league match after being crowned champions
They are champions; a defeat at Stamford Bridge will not take away
Chelsea’s joy is of course more precarious
But if today signals Palmer returning to his best
then Maresca’s side may end the season on a high

Cole Palmer has hailed Moises Caicedo as Chelsea’s best performer this season after their vital win over Liverpool
Both players were crucial to Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the much-changed champions at Stamford Bridge
a third in a row in the top-flight for the resurgent fifth-place Blues to take them level on points with Newcastle in fourth ahead of next weekend’s potentially pivotal trip to St James’ Park
Chelsea also now have the exact same goal difference as Newcastle in the battle for Champions League qualification and remain behind them on goals scored only after the Magpies’ eventful 1-1 draw at mid-table Brighton earlier on Sunday in which Alexander Isak netted a late equaliser from the penalty spot

As well as providing another boost to Chelsea’s Champions League hopes
the win over Liverpool was also notable for Palmer finally ending a well-documented goal drought that had lasted for 18 matches across all competitions - dating back to the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in mid-January - as he stepped up to confidently dispatch a last-gasp penalty that settled nerves among the home contingent

Chelsea star Cole Palmer admitted 's*** happens' as he finally ended his four-month goal drought in his side's 3-1 win over champions Liverpool
The England international fired in a late penalty to seal the victory, with the Reds losing their first Premier League game in which Virgil van Dijk has scored
Arne Slot's side
featuring for the first time since clinching the title last weekend
fell behind at Stamford Bridge just three minutes in after Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring
Chelsea wrapped up the points in the second half with a Jarell Quansah own goal and Palmer penalty either side of Van Dijk's consolation strike
It is the first time the Reds have lost with the Dutch defender on target in the top-flight
Their unique unbeaten streak dates back to hisfirst league goal for the club in December 2018
In contrast, Palmer ended his own dry spell in front of goal with his stoppage time spot-kick.
The England international had not found the net since January, a run stretching back 18 matches.
His emotions got the better of him during an X-rated post-match interview.
Palmer told Sky Sports: "I just felt normal
but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team
"I've scored today and I'm happy but it's only one and I've got to keep improving and try and reach new levels."
he added: "Getting chances and not scoring
"I feel like I am mentally strong anyway
"When you have got him [Moises Caicedo] in front of you
nice to everyone and everyone loves him."
Palmer now boasts 25 goal contributions this season
the 22-year-old has scored 15 times and provided ten assists for his team-mates
the result marked Liverpool's first loss by two goals in the league under Slot
Following his appointment last summer, the former Feyenoord boss had only seen his side lose twice in the Premier League
Those defeats to Nottingham Forest and Fulham had both been by a single goal
The Reds remain 15 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table with just three matches remaining
they occupy fifth place in the race for Champions League qualification
where every Monday during this season The Athletic will discuss three of the biggest questions to arise from the weekend’s Premier League football
This was the weekend when Leicester City and Southampton met in one of the Premier League’s sadder fixtures
Newcastle United had two penalties overturned by VAR before finally getting one
a Mason Mount goal provided a rare high point in another defeat for Manchester United
and Kevin De Bruyne won another game for Manchester City
Here we will ask if Arsenal are going to lose second place
whether Cole Palmer is finding form at the perfect time for Chelsea and whether Luton Town have provided a cautionary tale for the relegated clubs
There have been times over the past few months when you’ve felt like grabbing Pep Guardiola and giving him a big hug
even though this season will ultimately be forgettable
And the way things are going at the moment
it might actually end fairly respectably: City could end the season with the FA Cup and a second-placed finish in the Premier League
That runners-up spot seemed to be Arsenal’s guaranteed consolation prize: they haven’t really looked like significantly challenging Liverpool for some time
but second would at least look and feel much better and
a significant goal difference lead and only three games remaining
But their focus is on the Champions League
their injury crisis has reached comical levels — Jurrien Timber is now a doubt for the second leg of their semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain to add to the long list already out — and their form in the league is spiralling
The 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth on Saturday makes it just one win in the past five
three in the past 10 and their lead over the rest is eroding
two of the three aren’t: they have Liverpool away next weekend (which admittedly doesn’t seem quite as difficult after watching the champions lose to Chelsea) and after that it’s Newcastle at home
City have emerged from their existential crisis
right and centre and Erling Haaland was on the bench for their 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night
They didn’t need to call on him in the end
but his presence suggests he will be available should they require some goals in the closing weeks
finishing second or third doesn’t make any tangible difference for Arsenal
and while it might impact their seeding for next season’s Champions League
Unless you think the little bit of extra prize money is key
it ultimately wouldn’t be the end of the world
But Arsenal’s domestic season is tailing off
very slim possibility they could drop out of the top five altogether
although that would require them losing all three of their games
you probably shouldn’t be allowed into the Champions League on general principle
but there’s a fairly strong correlation between Chelsea’s form as a team and Cole Palmer’s as an individual this season
From the start of the season to late December
Chelsea only lost twice in the league — Manchester City before their Rodri-induced slump and Liverpool away — and were second in the table after 17 games
Palmer scored 11 goals and registered six assists
then threw in another three strikes in the following weeks as Chelsea’s overall form started to nosedive
And nosedive it did: they won just two of their next 10 games
what looked like a potential title challenge had turned into an effort to cling onto a Champions League place
He last scored against Bournemouth in January and picked up more yellow cards than assists in the subsequent 13 league games (plus another five in the Conference League)
and looked more lost and frustrated by the week
really: this was the first time he’d really struggled in his senior career
so it’s no wonder he didn’t know how to react
But eventually his form started creeping back
and he was sensational in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday
ultimately getting his goal from a penalty
but it was fair reward for the overall performance
“S*** happens,” he told Sky Sports after the game
“Social media is just full of idiots but I just want to help my team
You feel like you’re letting your team down when you miss chances… I was trying things today
And he might be feeling normal at just the right time for Chelsea
Their hold on that Champions League place looked pretty wobbly
particularly given their tough run-in — they still have to face Newcastle and Nottingham Forest — but they played Liverpool at the perfect moment
with the champions resting players and their intensity dialled down significantly
The margins are so tight that one player at something closer to his best could tip the balance in Chelsea’s favour
There wasn’t much to comfort the two teams when Leicester met Southampton on Saturday
The hosts at least had a win and their first home goals since December to cling to
one of which was scored by Jamie Vardy in his last weeks at the club
The knowledge that this season will be over soon
One thing both had in common might have been the promise of a fresh start in the summer
They will drop into the Championship next season with some sweet
sweet parachute payments — something that has enabled Leeds United and Burnley (and possibly Sheffield United) to win promotion back to the Premier League
and indeed enabled Leicester and Southampton to do the same a year ago
they — along with the other relegated team Ipswich — will go down with the thought that however grim and relentlessly miserable this season has been
who were the most competitive of the three relegated teams last season
were slipping to their second successive relegation
after a frankly embarrassing performance and 5-3 defeat by a team that had nothing to play for
much smaller club than both Southampton and Leicester (and Ipswich
and the surprise was that they were even in the Premier League last season
They have played in the National League in relatively recent memory
so them being in League One isn’t an enormous shock
But Leicester are in a financial mess and Southampton have not shown themselves to be the most reliable decision-makers over the past few years
It’s amazing how quickly things can unravel
Luton showed both teams that not only is there no guarantee of immediate promotion back to the Premier League
but a much worse fate is perfectly possible

MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Cleanup efforts continue after weekend storms rolled through Western Massachusetts
which was one of the hardest-hit places on Saturday
We were on Rondeau Street throughout the day Monday
where we saw crews working for hours and residents doing all they can to pick up the pieces
You could still see dead wires down and tree debris all over the place
it will be several days before things are 100% back on track for everyone on this road
Palmer resident Emily King lives on Rondeau Street and is still floored by the aftermath from Saturday’s weather
“It was about 15 trees in all that came down across our property
It was all just one burst of wind that broke them all down at once
We actually spoke with Emily and her husband just a couple of days ago
where they shared a dashcam video showing several trees come down at once with us
The video showed a horse on the property barely escaping injury
and King told us she was happy to see crews at work
There’s a tree company across the street now helping out
so at least you can get up the road now with the bigger trucks
That tree company is Ed’s Tree Service who came from Hampden to help residents affected by Saturday’s severe weather
Foreman Sean Haluch told Western Mass News he has not seen significant damage like this in a long time
“There’s 2011 with the tornado damage and the microburst and everything else was probably the last time I saw this much big damage
Our crew witnessed utility crews fixing damaged cables and vehicles slowly going up and down the road with dead wires on the ground
we saw a fallen tree just inches away from hitting a home
Haluch said it will be at least a week before everything is cleared away on Rondeau
a lot of house by house of getting everything out to the street for access
We’re working on a pretty severe hill right here
But having the right cranes and equipment makes everything easy
First Alert meteorologist Dan Brown
who told us why the National Weather Service decided not to come and survey the area
and they concluded that it was basically strong straight-line winds that created the damage.”
We reached out to National Grid on the power situation
“Approximately 1,000 customers in Palmer were impacted with outages that occurred throughout a 24-hour time period beginning around 4:20 pm on Saturday as result of wires down due to trees damaged by the storm
We made repairs and restored customers throughout the 24-hour period and all customers were restored by 4:30 pm Sunday.”
King said she and her family are hanging in there
“We’re very lucky… None of the animals were hurt
so we’re very lucky and we don’t have home damage.”
We were able to get in touch with Palmer Town Manager Brad Brothers
he told us that River Street is passable with Department of Public Works crews continuing to cleanup along the road
but Verizon crews continue to work to get lines back up
He anticipated those lines to get back up shortly
and then crews will be diverted to this road to start cleanup tomorrow
Crews continue to work and residents continuing to be very careful as they deal with this aftermath
Western Mass News stopped by the Ware Fire Department where the Deputy Chief told us they got several calls during Saturday’s severe weather including wires down on cars
and even some trees knocking over propane tanks
we saw a car crushed by a tree right in someone’s front lawn
That was in the area of Coffey Hill Road where we also saw utility crews working to restore cable and phone lines
“I was out in Rhode Island and when I drive over the whole street was covered in branches when I got home the power was out on the entire street.” Said Stephen Cedeno
Ware resident Stephen Cedeno explained what it was like when he drove through after the storm
We also spoke with Ware Town Manager Stuart Beckley and like residents we talked to
he said he’s never seen a storm like this in Ware
Beckley shared that unfortunately three homes in town were damaged by fallen trees
There were also two cars trapped by trees and fallen wires
He continued to say that luckily there were no injuries
Beckley commended the hard work of the police
But he also said there is still a lot more to clean up

(1:06)Herculez Gomez and Kasey Keller debate whether any USMNT players could join Wrexham
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed that "legends" Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer remain a part of the club's plans for next season
The Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned side earned their third successive promotion last weekend to secure a place in next season's English Championship
Mullin and Palmer have been key contributors in this rapid rise up the English football pyramid
Mullin was the team's top scorer in their promotion campaigns to League 1 and League 2
and is the seventh-highest scorer in their history with 110 goals
Palmer struck up a fruitful partnership with Mullin in attack
and scored vital goals in their promotion run-in last season
the duo have struggled for gametime this season and haven't made a league appearance since January
Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales: "First of all
What level that has been doesn't matter because everybody's been together and contributed
"Of course there's always players who would have liked to have played more
so I'm delighted with everybody as a group
"Mulls and Ollie will always be legends at this club for what they've done
They're under contract next year and they'll be back in pre-season ready to go again."
It was the moment all Chelsea fans must have felt that Cole Palmer is well and truly back
Palmer’s injury-time penalty was significant
It not only secured all three points for Chelsea against Liverpool but also ended a personal goal drought lasting four months
since the game on January 14 against Bournemouth
But it was his bit of magic in the 81st minute that had people off their seats and believing again
There seemed to be very little on when Palmer had the ball on the touchline at the Liverpool end
The 22-year-old ran towards Liverpool’s goal
you just thought he was trying to invite a challenge to win a corner
a penalty or would look to pass to a team-mate
especially as Palmer’s eyes deliberately darted to the right (Alisson’s left)
The Brazil international left the tiniest gap at the near post
But surely the angle was too tight to shoot
Palmer fooled everybody by trying to score instead
but the ball rebounded off the far post and came out
perhaps Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca was the only other person in the ground not to be taken completely unawares
When asked if he thought Palmer would attempt such an effort at that moment
he replied with a smile: “Cole is that kind of player
They (people like Palmer) are different players
I expect anything because he can do anything.”
Such brilliance used to seemingly come with the match ticket in the first 18 months of Palmer’s Chelsea career
But his self-belief has visibly drained since January as he failed to find the net
Even the regular supply of assists dried up
That has provoked a lot of scorn to be aimed in his direction from those who love to tear people down on social media
As much as footballers say they pay no attention to it when going through a lean spell
Palmer essentially admitted that his downturn had taken some kind of toll
but only because of the impact it was having on the team
“I went three (four) months without scoring
but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team,” he said
but it’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving and try to reach new levels
it feels like you’re letting your team down
This was Palmer sparking fear in opponents once more — and the new champions no less
Palmer’s bit of trickery with nine minutes remaining was not his only moment to remember from a pulsating encounter
it was his perfectly-weighted pass to Pedro Neto
who crossed for Enzo Fernandez to score in the third minute
which showed he was in the mood to make a difference
Liverpool players would try to close him down
Palmer would also be working hard to try to win it back
One instinctive ball over the top for Nicolas Jackson to run onto in the 16th minute was also a reminder of the vision he possesses
He led Kostas Tsimikas a merry dance in the build-up to Chelsea’s second goal and his quick feet must have bewitched Virgil van Dijk too because he hit a panicked clearance against team-mate Jarell Quansah and the ball rebounded into the net
Some statistics that emerged post-match further emphasised what we had just witnessed
Palmer came out on top for most passes in the final third (13)
shots on target (two) and for fouls won (two)
Scoring the penalty kick in added time capped things off
It also brought the loudest roar from the Chelsea fans
celebrating seeing him find the net again as much as the team restoring their two-goal lead
His fellow Chelsea players made a show of marking the moment with their team-mate
“He deserves it,” Moises Caicedo said to Sky Sports
He helps us a lot even when he didn’t score.”
it means Palmer has had a huge weight lifted off his shoulders ahead of the tough run-in to secure a top-five place and the target of Champions League football next season
Away games at fellow challengers Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest await
with a home match against Manchester United sandwiched in between
But Maresca can see the significance of Palmer looking more like his old self and being back on the scoresheet
Pressed on the significance and the timing of what he produced against Liverpool with such huge fixtures to come
I said if we want to reach the (top five of the) Premier League
we needed goals from Cole and Nico (Jackson)
“Nico scored against Everton and gave us three points
Ann Davis passed away peacefully on April 27
after a long and courageous battle with cancer
She was surrounded by loved ones and comforted by hymns
It was a sunny spring day—the kind of day she would have chosen herself
Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years
Ann was lucky enough to have bonus daughters—Lisa
and Stephanie—and three bonus grandchildren as well
Ann’s story began on a farm in Southern Illinois
where she was born at home—surprising everyone by showing up after her twin
She grew up in the 1940s and 50s on struggling farmland
learning the true meaning of hard work and resilience
which provided her with more grit than most college degrees today
where fate intervened via a blind double date
She didn’t hit it off with her own date—but she did with her friend’s date
Jim sent her engagement ring through the mail
When he called on Valentine’s Day to ask if she’d received her gift
Perhaps because she once had to leave all her cherished belongings behind during a move
She knew that objects could hold memories and history
Her favorite treasures were always both beautiful and practical—and now
If you're hoping for something you can't find anywhere else
Please wait a respectful amount of time before submitting your request to her daughters
with a gift for learning new things and a drive to share her knowledge to help others
or lending money with a flexible repayment plan
She also held the gold medal in stubbornness
Ann outlived her initial 2–6-month prognosis not once
she stayed an extra hour—probably just to prove she could
Her fierce determination and grit were passed down to her daughters
(The jury is still out on whether this is a blessing or a curse.)
Ann's name may not appear in history books or on any grand building
She was the knot that held together many strings
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her

The report surrounding George Pickens’ “love” of Mike Tomlin and the Steelers may have been blown out of proportion
as one insider claims things have not gone well between the two parties
Within a video posted on Bleacher Report
insider James Palmer shed light on why he believes Pickens’ time in the Steel City could soon be over:
Palmer concluded that Pickens will likely be traded before the start of the 2026 season — which aligns with insider Gerry Dulac’s comments that Pickens could be moved at next year’s draft to help the Steelers trade up for a top quarterback.
It appears fans will get to witness Metcalf and Pickens wreak havoc on opposing defensive backs for at least the 2025 season — but beyond that, rumors and speculation have not been kind to the troubled Steelers receiver.

The lively Palmer was also instrumental in the second goal after he clipped the ball into the area and Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk's attempted clearance bounced off teammate Quansah and into the goal. Van Dijk had pulled one back in the 84th minute from a corner for Liverpool. The result kept Chelsea fifth in the table, separated from fourth-placed Newcastle United only by goals scored

It is too early to say whether the minor party will win enough votes and preferences to secure a Senate seat
but it currently has just less than a third of the required quota
This outcome may not be known for several days
On Channel Seven on Saturday night, Palmer said the advertising spend had “stimulated debate” and claimed credit for an end-of-campaign discussion about welcome to country ceremonies
“I think we can win some Senate seats and play a really important role in the next term of parliament,” Palmer told Channel Seven
Ads claiming “we don’t need to be welcomed to our own country,” were splashed on the front pages of Nine newspapers during the election campaign. Hours after welcome to country addresses were disrupted at Anzac day dawn services, similar ads surrounded the homepage of news.com.au.

The mining magnate promised to bring a Trump-style populist agenda to Canberra
vowing to “drain the swamp,” slash public spending
The party’s branding also borrowed heavily from Trump’s campaign playbook
complete with “Make Australia Great Again” caps
he said he was willing to spend “whatever is required” to defend freedom of speech – though critics argued his SMS-heavy strategy alienated voters rather than inspiring them
In response to the backlash over both the texts and YouTube ads
Palmer told News Corp “the advertising supports a lot of journalists and newspapers and it creates a lot of debate”
And while the Trumpet party ran candidates in all 150 lower house seats and across the Senate
it failed to convert that scale into support

Palmer has never been shy about putting his fortune behind big ideas – whether that’s a political party or a full-scale replica of the Titanic
the mining billionaire revived his Titanic II plans for a third time in March last year
saying it was “a lot more fun than sitting at home counting [his] money.”

he suggested passengers will be encouraged (though not required) to dress in early 1900s fashion as they retrace the doomed liner’s maiden voyage from Southampton to New York
