PAMPA, Texas (KVII) — Demolition to the auditorium at Pampa High School is underway. The next step from there is to construct a Career & Technology Education Center connected to a Fine Arts Center. This was made possible after voters approved a $130 million bond providing funding for some projects at campuses across the district. Being able to have a new CTE Center will help address a need for labor in the region. “An investment in this facility is going to pay dividends for decades to come really,” said Hugh Piatt, superintendent at Pampa H.S. It was about five years ago that a strategic planning committee consisting of residents of Pampa realized that an investment to bring Pampa High School into modern technology was needed to benefit future Harvesters. “So, we knew that the CTE facility needed to get our kids ready for what they’re going to go into out in the workforce,” said Piatt. Based off workforce needs and what will be needed over the next couple of years and for decades in Pampa, Gray County this brand new CTE and Fine Arts Center will help address those critical needs. “With new expansions and businesses coming in you know we're trying to be good stewards with them and where we can get our kids skills so they can stay here and be productive citizens and make a good living for them and for their families,” said Clay Jones. As for the completion and opening of the CTE and Fine Arts Center at Pampa High School, if all goes as scheduled, it will benefit the graduating class of 2028. The school has around 1,000 students so the campus layout had to be reconfigured to allow for demolition and construction work to be done. Once open the CTE and Fine Arts Center will have at least 11 different pathways for students to select from. Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered.
