A love triangle plays out across generations in this brilliantly panoramic tale of family ties
American author Eric Puchner’s latest novel is a colossus: a vast
Dream State opens in 2004 with the image of a young woman
diving into a perfect lake whose “blue expanse of water” reflects the “overlapping peaks of the Salish range”
barrelling through our present day into a projected future: dipping in and out of the lives of a tight cast of characters as they succeed and fail; love and fall out of love; change and stay the same
She has stepped out of the lakeshore family home of Charlie Margolis
a cardiac anaesthesiologist to whom she’s engaged
marked by abundance and continuity: orchards filled with “ancient apple trees”
Cece “loves it more than any place on the earth”
She’s come to Montana early to put the finishing touches to the wedding plans before the guests
Garrett appears on the lakeshore as Cece is swimming – and from there
Cece and Garrett move rapidly through antagonism into fascination; the wedding looms; and decisions taken in the heat of the moment profoundly shape the lives of all three characters from that point on
Puchner carries off his novel’s first act with aplomb
deploying the elements of the love triangle as the formula demands
and with humour: light relief comes in the shape of a recalcitrant mountain goat
and a norovirus outbreak that topples the wedding party like dominoes
But it’s in the second act – and all the acts thereafter – that Puchner really flexes his muscles
is not in the resolution of his love triangle
but in the idea that any such resolution is a chimera
their feelings about and for one another continue to shift and complicate as the decades unfold
from romantic drama into elegyThis absence of resolution is most visible in the lives of the trio’s children
via whom Puchner presents us with a dichotomy: they’re at once actors in their own right
and vessels carrying forward a queasy inheritance
is the subject of a perfectly formed chapter at the heart of the book
in which Puchner makes it clear that their own feelings are at once deeply personal
and at the same time inflected by their odd
slanting glimpses into the relationship between their parents
By following his characters over the course of years
Puchner shows us that we’re not fixed at the point of early adulthood; that change remains not just possible but inevitable
Yet in revealing how profoundly the children’s lives are shaped by the actions of their parents
he simultaneously calls the whole idea of free will into question
And free will means something different for those born in the 21st century
like a Victorian novel: an unhurried depiction of a rich
in which actions have consequences that ripple across generations
But where the great novelists of the Victorian age tended to set their players’ foibles and insecurities against stable
these characters’ journeys take place amid a landscape that is slipping and changing
Puchner measures the passage of time by the disappearance of wildlife
leaving behind a “dry lake bottom … bleached grey as the moon”
Lana and Jasper’s summers are hotter and less bounteous than their parents’
from romantic drama into elegy: for the characters’ lost youth
but more profoundly for the loss of a version of youth that is carefree and filled with potential
and shows us the events that set his central characters’ feet on the path to their endings
both the loss of the promise their own lives contained and the collective loss of a steadily unfolding future that once we took for granted
Puchner seduces us with a familiar and deeply secure narrative structure
to force it to tell a tale of profound and fatal insecurity
that it’s not until you set the book down that you can appreciate the breadth and brilliance of what he’s done

In a recent interview with Alejandrosis
PARADISE LOST guitarist Aaron Aedy spoke about the status of the follow-up to the band's latest album
which was released in May 2020 via Nuclear Blast
but it's recorded." Asked if he could give fans some details about the musical direction of the new PARADISE LOST material
It's like opening your presents before Christmas
I don't wanna go into the new album too much just yet
'cause I'll wait to see what it's like when it's mixed
This past March, PARADISE LOST guitarist Greg Mackintosh told Chile's PowerOfMetal.cl that the band's new LP would likely be released "September time." He added: "It's been the longest time we've ever had between albums
But that's kind of because of the pandemic as well… So shit happens
PARADISE LOST will embark on "The Devil Embraced" North American tour later this month
The trek will kick off on May 16 at the Milwaukee Metal Fest and conclude on May 24 at Maryland Deathfest
In a November 2023 interview with Jorge Botas of Portugal's Metal Global
PARADISE LOST singer Nick Holmes spoke about how the band's songwriting process has evolved over the decades
Nick said: "The writing process is 100 percent different to how we used to write when we were younger
but it's just — maybe you're kind of more fussy
You can listen to things more than maybe you would do in the old days
There isn't an element of that as much now
There's a lot of ping-ponging ideas backwards and forwards
and you have more time to dwell on things and think
It might be all right.' There's benefits of both ways of writing
you can have too long and you can have too short
We're just not the kind of band who can just kind of throw out a song and it's just brilliant
but I guess you can pretend that you're spontaneous and you just can throw out a genius song in about 10 minutes
I don't think that really happens with many people
has changed dramatically to where it was when we started."
When Botas noted that the different songwriting approach is something that was developed through experience
Holmes said: "When you start writing something
'This is fantastic,' and then you can wake up in the morning and you think it's rubbish
And then sometimes you have to take a step backwards
having a step backwards and maybe let someone else have a listen
Once you've gone to the top of the hill and you're coming down
Asked if he can still trust his instincts when writing music
you could hear something that's not necessarily you think
this is strange.' And then you've gotta listen to it and then get into the… I don't instantly dismiss something — I would never do that — but I've gotta give it a few [listens]
And if I still feel the same way after a few listens
But I don't instantly dismiss things 'cause I don't think that's really a positive thing to do
Asked if he can write a whole set of lyrics without music or if he needs the music to get some like melodies in his head
Nick said: "I prefer the music as a springboard to write lyrics to
And that's always something I've admired about certain bands over the years
I'm not particularly interested in hearing stories in songs
it's more about how the songs sound at a certain time
how the lyrics sound at a certain time and the words
but I prefer to have something to kind of bounce off
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their fourth album, "Icon", PARADISE LOST re-recorded the LP for a special new release. There was also "an extra special vinyl" version of the album, both of which were made available in December 2023
"Icon 30" is a totally re-recorded version of "Icon"
and PARADISE LOST once again worked with longtime collaborator and producer Jaime Gomez Arellano
PARADISE LOST recorded the vocals and drums for "Icon 30" at Jaime's new studio Arda Recorders in Porto
The rest of the album was completed at Mackintosh's Black Planet Studios
"Icon 30" also features brand new artwork created by Scott Robinson and new liner notes from Kerrang!'s Nick Ruskell
"Icon" marked a departure from the death-doom sound of PARADISE LOST's early work and was the last album to feature Matthew Archer on drums
"Icon" was inducted into the Decibel "Hall Of Fame"
with the magazine naming it influential to the development of the gothic metal subgenre
PARADISE LOST welcomed Guido Zima Montanarini as their official new drummer
Finnish drummer Waltteri Väyrynen left PARADISE LOST to join OPETH
he issued a statement saying that his decision involved "absolutely no bad blood or drama whatsoever."
PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the U.K
But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece "Gothic" nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995's "Draconian Times"
they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace
evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of 1990s classics "One Second" and "Host" to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009's "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us" and "Tragic Idol" (2012),with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters
The band's "The Plague Within" (2015) and "Medusa" (2017) albums saw a much-celebrated return to brutal
via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat
Meet brand-new Tamagotchi friends as they live

Everything that happened with Carolina invalidated so much about my relationship that was so good,” Sombke said in an on-camera confessional during the episode
“This is definitely a tipping point for me.”
Reality Steve has since apologized to Sombke for sparking false rumors in a new blog post
Admitting that he had “no idea” she had quit her job
he said: “I don’t even know what you do for a job
putting you out there as a possible contestant
but I think all the other names that I mentioned
I am pretty sure are going to be there at some point.”

Michelangelo Pistoletto’s “Third Paradise” arrives in Scanno a small Italian village nestled in the Abruzzo mountains
The small village has been chosen as the latest site for a project that bridges art
works by Michelangelo Pistoletto have been celebrated for decades as touchstones of socially engaged art
his iconic symbol—the “Third Paradise”—is being brought to life in a profoundly different way
On May 10th, the historic halls of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice will host the official presentation of Scanno
an ambitious public art and landscape initiative curated by Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto
This event is being shaped by a diverse coalition of artists
and public officials—brought together to envision a sustainable future for Scanno through the interpretive framework of Pistoletto’s art
Regarded as a founding figure of the Arte Povera movement
Michelangelo Pistoletto has long been recognized for turning aesthetics into action
His work has been characterized by a deep exploration of art’s role in fostering societal transformation
Over the years, it has been displayed in many leading American institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
Pistoletto’s art is not merely exhibited—it is activated
At the heart of his philosophy is the Third Paradise
a reimagined infinity symbol whose center represents a fertile space where nature and technology
This symbol has already been installed in global locations—from the Louvre Museum in Paris to the United Nations headquarters in Geneva—and now
it is being grounded in the rural textures of Scanno
the Third Paradise is being used as a living platform—for education
has long held a powerful place in the visual arts
It has been immortalized by photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson
drawn to its stark beauty and timeless rhythms
Scanno has been affected by economic stagnation and population decline
Scanno is not being preserved as a postcard but transformed into a laboratory where tradition and innovation coexist
By embracing the values of the Third Paradise
Scanno is being positioned as a model for sustainable rural futures
The site-specific project is being shaped by landscape architect João Ferreira Nunes
whose ecological design transforms the terrain into a spatial story
key cultural leaders—including Cristiana Collu
director of the Querini Stampalia Foundation
architect and editor—are contributing to the broader intellectual and urbanistic vision
what Pistoletto calls a “civic architecture” is being created: an art that inhabits public space
but also inhabits responsibility—toward people
While the symbolism of the Third Paradise has already been seen in major international venues
what is now being achieved in Scanno is markedly different
By embedding it into the landscape and life of the village
a unique blend of poetry and practicality is achieved
this initiative arrives at a time when the urgent questions of climate change
and cultural disconnection are being felt worldwide
Terzo Paradiso offers a quiet revolution—a vision in which art is not decoration
this latest iteration reinforces Pistoletto’s lifelong commitment to peace
and shared humanity—an ethos that has recently led to his official nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Like the original pitch for Death in Paradise
Return to Paradise is about a person miserably stuck solving crimes in one of the most beautiful places on earth
is miserable because this was the hometown she's spent her life trying to escape
Changing the dynamic meant the show could cast Australian actors instead of asking London-based ones to commute halfway round the globe
solving Death in Paradise's ultimate issue while also getting to film in another gorgeous location
the show's Australian-ness meant it was an awkward fit for BritBox
which is emphatically "British Through and Through Thank You," despite the other two-thirds of the franchise exclusive to the platform
probably because the other two-thirds weren't available
even after the BBC announced there would be a second season
that's left the show to wind up in the oddest place of all: U.S
Here's Ovation's version of the show's synopsis:
Return to Paradise follows DI Mackenzie “Mack” Clarke
an Australian ex-pat who’s made a name for herself in London’s Metropolitan Police for cracking uncrackable murder cases
When she is accused of tampering with evidence
back to the last place she ever wanted to be – her hometown of Dolphin Cove
infamously leaving her ex-fiancé Glenn at the altar
a reluctant Mack joins the team at Dolphin Cove Police Station.
It’s that tenacity and work ethic that might just
help Mackenzie win over her new colleagues and the people of Dolphin Cove.
The core cast have all been confirmed to return for Season 2
including Season 1's vague excuse to tie the series to St
who played DI Jack Mooney (DI Humphrey's direct replacement) from Season 6 to Season 9 on Death in Paradise
reprising his role once again in the spinoff
O'Hanlon is still only listed as a guest star; we'll see if that holds if and when the show takes off in the U.S
The series is co-created and executive-produced by Peter Mattessi
Executive producers for BBC Studios Productions Australia are Kylie Washington and Warren Clarke
for Red Planet Pictures are Belinda Campbell and Tim Key
and for ABC are Rachel Okine and Brett Sleigh
Return to Paradise Season 1 debuts on Ovation on Friday

Rottnest Island has become a global favourite
I mentioned to a local that I was heading to Rottnest Island the next day
It has a special kind of magic – the kind of place where you kick off your shoes the minute you arrive
Everything slows down and you can breathe a little more deeply."
I already felt that Perth was a little like that – at least
life there felt slower and less frenzied than in my hometown of Melbourne on Australia's east coast – but I smiled back
However, she was right. Rottnest Island
a peaceful 19-sq-km isle off the coast of Western Australia
The spell was cast as soon as our ferry left the mainland
sending jets of sea spray into the air and flipping their tails as if in welcome
The sky was clear with the promise of a perfect day to come
Just 19km and 30 minutes later, I stepped off the ferry into another world. Rottnest Island has been famously car-free since 1931, and those more in the know than me immediately jumped onto bikes they'd brought with them or wandered off to hire one from Pedal and Flipper, said to be the largest bike hire place in the southern hemisphere
Green Getaways is a BBC Travel series that helps travellers experience a greener
cleaner approach to getting out and seeing the world
It was idyllic and glorious and everything I imagined a nostalgic care-free (and car-free) island holiday to be
The isle has long been a cherished playground for generations of Western Australian families
a volunteer guide I met not long after I arrived
Campbell spent his childhood holidays on Rottnest and now returns regularly to tell people about his beloved island
"There are no multi-storey high-rise hotels here," he added
If you ever tried to put a multi-storey-anything here for wealthy people
We are very protective of our beautiful island."
Once a well-kept secret from the rest of the world
in recent years Rottnest has become one of Australia's most Instagrammed destinations
thanks to a certain fuzzy-faced resident: the quokka
which racked up more than four million likes
transforming from local secret to global sensation
According to the Rottnest Island Authority
annual visitor numbers have nearly tripled in the last decade
peaking at more than 800,000 at last count
The island was first sighted by Dutch explorers in the 17th Century and was named by one such captain
who stayed on the island for six days and mistook the quokkas for rats
He referred the island as "'t elyandt 't rottenest" which means "rat's nest island" in Dutch – although by all accounts he was also captivated by the pristine scenery and referred to it as "paradise on Earth" in his journal
has had to quickly grow up to meet the demands of all these domestic and international tourists
That meant creating more accommodation than the basic cabins and camping that existed
as well as better food and activity options
transforming into a model of eco-conscious tourism without losing its soul
As Campbell put it: "When I was nine years old
the [cultural] experience that I had on Rottnest is not that much different to what you're going to experience today."
You won't find any private cars here – just a few vehicles for rangers and staff – so most everyone gets about on two wheels or two feet (or the odd skateboard
having to occasionally dodge quokkas lounging on the road
Accommodation ranges from beachside cottages with bike racks out front to backpacker dorms to relaxed boutique hotels
While many tourists come on a day trip from Perth
it's much better to stay the night: quokkas are nocturnal and will spend most of the day sleeping under shady bushes
at which point the island truly comes into its own
"Someone once said to me that you can feel the island exhale [when they leave]," said Erin Gallagher from the Rottnest Island Authority
"I just thought it was the most beautiful thing – and it's so true."
I was staying at Discovery Resorts, the island's first eco resort, whose 83 glamping tents are shaded by gum trees and Aleppo pines, tucked behind Pinky Beach in the sand dunes
just a ceiling fan for airflow and the sound of the ocean through canvas walls
"[The resort] is designed to immerse guests into the environment," explained Krizza Miclat
"A lot of the infrastructure is elevated on steel poles to ensure that we're not damaging the sand dunes
we haven't impacted it too much."
"We're always striving to improve," said Gallagher
"Our target is to achieve 75% renewables
There's even an app where anyone can see how much power the island is generating in real time."
• A day out with Bluey: Australia's new experience brings the Heeler family to life
• Bindi Irwin's top outdoor adventures in Australia
• The hike making Australia a better place
In the spirit of low-impact activities, I decided to take a Segway tour around the undulating landscape, rolling along the endless beaches, gliding past the cluster of salt lakes in the north-eastern corner and looking out for whales on the island's Humpback Highway
I steered past the scrub heath that covers much of the island
breathing in its signature salty-sweet smell and dodging prickle lily and feather speargrass
The island is just 11km long and 4.5km at its widest point
but its biodiversity is vast – a Class A reserve where everything from the blue-flowered Rottnest daisy to the long
black king skink I saw on the side of a trail is protected
Rottnest was turned into an Aboriginal prison
more than 4,000 Indigenous men and boys were incarcerated here for "crimes" that they often didn't know they'd committed
Get there: Regular ferries are operated by Sealink and Rottnest Express (leaving from Perth CBD and Fremantle) and Rottnest Fast Ferries (leaving from Hillarys Boat Harbour
When to go: Summer (December-February) is the most popular (and crowded) time, but September-April is still warm enough for water-based activities. If you want to celebrate quokka joeys taking their first hops, visit 21-22 September 2025 for Little Quokka's Big Birthday Weekend
Where to stay: Book an eco-glamping tent at Discovery Resorts or stay at the newly opened The Lodge Wadjemup
Do: Hire a bike, snorkel and mask from Pedal and Flipper to explore the island at your own pace. Head to Garden Lake at sunset for epic quokka sightings. Take a guided Segway tour to learn about the island's history as you explore
with the first discoveries made during construction work in the 1970s
holidaymakers continued to camp on the site until the practice was finally banned in 2007
"It was the largest number of Aboriginal deaths in custody in history in Australia," explained volunteer guide Anne Yardley, when I met her later at the island's Wadjemup Museum
"And from the biggest number of Aboriginal nations."
But Indigenous connection to the island stretches far beyond this painful chapter
and archaeological evidence shows that the Noongar people lived on and used the island for tens of thousands of years
Its Indigenous name – Wadjemup – means "place of spirits"
"This was a significant place for Indigenous people," Campbell told me
sea levels rose and this patch of land became an island
The Aboriginal people stayed on the mainland and it was left alone for thousands of years… all through Christianity
the Egyptian Empire… until Europeans arrived."
focusses on acknowledging Wadjemup's history of Aboriginal incarceration and the memorialisation of former prison sites
formed in 1931 by a group of regular campers
to the yellow-shirted Rottnest Volunteer Guides
These and other groups collectively contribute more than 40,000 hours a year to maintaining the island
and their dedication to preserving and sharing its stories speaks volumes about how deeply the island is loved
"There's this balancing act between having enough people to make the place work financially
but not so many people coming here that you lose the reason to come," said Campbell
One moment I was riding my bike past salt lakes ringed with grey saltbush and coastal pigface
the next watching irresistibly cute quokkas hop around at sunset
I snorkelled an underwater trail through turquoise shallows
gazed onto shipwrecks just offshore and had sunset drinks looking out to incredible ocean vistas
respecting the signs not to feed or touch them in any way but to keep my distance and let them come to me
I laughed as I tried – and failed – to get both myself and a quokka fully in shot
and was reminded of something Gallagher had said to me about the smiling-faced marsupial: "Why wouldn't you be happy if this is where you lived?"
It was more than just a line – it was a truth that settled into the bones of the island
but it hasn't lost what makes it feel like a local secret: the sense that once you arrive
breathe deeply and kick off your shoes for a while

It was recently confirmed that Death in Paradise will be returning for season 15
and filming is already well under way in Guadeloupe
But what about the future of Beyond Paradise
The spin-off currently has three seasons under its belt
but are there plans to revisit Shipton Abbott
There was heartbreak for Humphrey and Martha in the season 3 finale
so fans will want to see them bounce back from that
and there's absolutely more room for growth and exploration with all of the other characters
Speaking ahead of season 3 (via Yahoo News)
Zahra Ahmadi said that the show could match Death in Paradise's impressive run
\"I think it absolutely has the capacity to do that,\" she said
there's so much we haven't even scratched the surface on yet with characters
\"I would absolutely love to do 14 series of it
and I get to work with the most amazing cast and crew I've ever worked with
\"I absolutely love working with Kris [Marshall]
we've got the best producer in Lindsay Hughes
we would like to [keep going for 14 series].\"
Read on for everything we know so far about a potential Beyond Paradise season 4
The BBC has yet to announce if more episodes are on their way
Beyond Paradise usually arrives towards the end of or after Death in Paradise's run
so we'd expect the currently unconfirmed season 4 to air between late February and early April 2026
Alongside Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman and Sally Bretton as Martha Lloyd
It remains to be seen if Jamie Bamber will return as Archie Hughes (more on that later)
And you can also expect plenty of new guest stars
Season 3 included Hugh Dennis and Caroline Quentin
Season 3 wrapped up on a sad note for Humphrey and Martha
They had to say goodbye to their foster child Rosie
because her mum was ready to take care of her again
Will they welcome another child into their home in a potential fourth season
And will that child become a more permanent presence in their lives
Perhaps they'll turn their consideration to adoption
will Humphrey and Martha revisit getting married in future episodes
Esther decided not to commit to a relationship with Archie
Other big developments included Anne being told she has a clean bill of health after her recent health scare
And Humphrey and the team will also have their hands full with plenty of new and complex mysteries to solve
expect the trailer to arrive in the month leading up to the premiere
Beyond Paradise is available to stream on BBC iPlayer

They (note the choice of pronoun) don’t wish to have their identity determined by suspect structures
This biographical information is pertinent to payne’s “Furlough’s Paradise,” which won the 2025 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and is now having its West Coast premiere at the Geffen Playhouse
a two-hander directed by Tinashe Kajese-Bolden
concerns two bracingly intelligent Black cousins who grew up together but whose lives have diverged
these cousins are trying in their different ways to imagine a world that will allow them to discover themselves outside of inherited assumptions and oppressive hierarchies
works for Google and lives with her white girlfriend
has been granted a weekend furlough from prison to attend the funeral of her mother
They have not seen each other since Sade was sent to jail
and she now keeps a small apartment in her hometown
a kind of safe house that allows her to commune with her past and escape from the endless striving of California
(The location is unnamed but described in the program as a U.S
But it’s also an opportunity for a double rebirth
Mina and Sade are witnesses not only to each other but also to the conditions that formed and deformed their dreams
“Furlough’s Paradise” is a small play that expands outward to the social and metaphysical worlds, not unlike McCraney’s “The Brothers Size,” a palpable influence
Projection designers Yee Eun Nam and Elizabeth Barrett create a kaleidoscopic background on Chika Shimizu’s pied-à-terre set
With help from Pablo Santiago’s lighting and Cricket S
the production magnifies in cinematic fashion the inner lives of the characters
floats at times like a movement-theater piece reaching for the heavens
The acting is grounded in realism but the writing refuses to keep the characters under lock and key
Life may have thrown up walls but nothing can block their yearning
What does liberty mean and how can it be lived in an unfree world
(The word “liberty” is projected onto the set along with other thematically relevant vocabulary at the start of the play.)
Mina shares her dream of raising children outside of the fixed binaries of gender
Sade reveals the utopia she and her girlfriend
a collective portrait of a peaceful haven for “free formerly incarcerated Black girls.”
The cousins are content to spend the weekend holed up with each other
sorting through the past and measuring the distance between them
Costume designer Celeste Jennings illustrates their differences through clothing choices that reflect Sade’s more marginalized status and Mina’s more assimilated reality
and DeWanda Wise in “Furlough’s Paradise” at Geffen Playhouse
(Jeff Lorch) Mina is surprised that Sade isn’t more eager to exploit her weekend out of jail
she’s perhaps better able to appreciate the quiet togetherness of being holed up in her cousin’s apartment
They watch TV and movies, eat cereal, play music and resurrect the cast of characters from their youth. August Wilson made it his mission to put the rituals of Black life onstage
to give representation to the daily customs of a people who had been denied visibility in mainstream culture
though the references in “Furlough’s Paradise” are largely from pop culture (“The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “The Proud Family” and “The Cheetah Girls”) and the name-checking can sometimes seem slightly pandering
But the play digs deep into the challenge of shaping a life into something that doesn’t feel like a betrayal
Mina resents when Sade harps on the inequities of their childhoods
She thinks her cousin is making excuses for some bad choices
But Sade reminds Mina that small differences in parental belief and imagination can make a world of difference
Mina’s father flouted strictures; Sade’s mother subjugated herself to them — that is
until Sade went to jail on a serious felony and compassion for her daughter awakened her long-dormant maternal loyalty
“Furlough’s Paradise” makes the case that character isn’t defined by elite education or criminal record
(The exact nature of Sade’s crime goes unstated.) Our identities are a complicated calculus of opportunity and challenge
while keeping the action from becoming claustrophobic
The skips in time that occur in the play are unnecessarily italicized
The choreography is refreshing but might be more so with a little more restraint
What distinguishes payne as a rising talent is the breadth of human understanding that makes the characters of “Furlough’s Paradise” seem like old friends by the end of the drama
Rogers’ Mina and Wise’s Sade are so singularly and contrastingly themselves that it’s not clear how they will ever reconcile their versions of the past
But this reunion catalyzes their desire to connect the dots that constitute their parallel lives
“Furlough’s Paradise” makes you care deeply about what will happen to Mina and Sade once the authorities come to collect Sade
I left the theater wishing not only the playwright a safe journey but also the play’s characters
