Police said around 3:25 pm, they attempted a traffic stop on a Chevy Equinox near Brookpark Road and Chevrolet Boulevard for an equipment violation. The man took off from officers at a high rate of speed eastbound on Brookpark Rd. Assisting officers successfully deployed stop-strips, flattening a rear tire of the man’s vehicle. Despite the damage, the man continued to flee until the vehicle came to a stop in the area of Brookpark Rd. and West. 54th St. According to police, he then took off southbound with a gun in hand, running through backyards. During the foot pursuit, the suspect discharged one round from the gun, but it did not hit anyone. Out of an abundance of caution, nearby Thoreau Park Elementary School was put on lockdown, and a perimeter was set up with the assistance of neighboring police departments. contractor It came from scammers who had hacked into a city email patiently monitored the account and struck when the opportunity presented itself “I ultimately found out that they had been in the system for three to four weeks just looking for invoices,” said Parma Heights Police Chief Steven Greene who investigated the case before his promotion to the top cop in the city Greene said the city’s cyber insurance covered more than half of the loss Greene’s investigation led him to work with J.P a police department in Washington and ultimately with the FBI who on Tuesday arrested one of the suspected hackers Authorities say the Opute’s group used the same “email takeover” scam to swindle a Bedford commercial construction company out of $337,000 and a car dealership in Everett the investigating similar scams Greene said he found the group created more than 150 email accounts that mirrored construction companies Investigators found that once the money was wired the hackers sent Atlanta area Opute and others used real people’s stolen identities to load the debit cards they tracked his whereabouts through the GPS device in his phone and followed him from his $699,000 home as locate a man who fled from officers during a traffic stop Monday resulting in a pursuit that caused two crashes involving police cruisers officers saw an “ equipment violation” on a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu driving southbound in the area of State Road and Torrington Avenue Police said they attempted a traffic stop when the Chevrolet turned westbound onto Torrington Avenue at increasing speeds Officers pursued the car as it reached speeds over 70 MPH Assisting officers attempted to use stop strips as the Chevrolet drove northbound on Ridge Road to Brookpark Road the initiating officers were involved in a car crash while trying to catch up to the Chevrolet police said that another cruiser en route to assist was also involved in a crash that disabled the cruiser Other responding officers successfully deployed the stop strips which the Chevrolet drove over and continued at a high speed westbound on Brookpark Road Parma Police then terminated the pursuit because of the multiple crashes possibility of parole for rape and gross sexual imposition Jeremy Bahner, 40, was once considered “the community’s most fun dad,” according to a victim’s mother. He was arrested in May 2023 and accused of illegally filming an 11-year-old girl inside his home. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Hollie Gallagher sentenced Bahner on several offenses including two counts of rape of a child under 10 two counts of gross sexual imposition and sexually violent predator specifications were possible because Bahner had access to countless children through his daycare A jury found him guilty after a trial in October Bahner’s unlicensed business also involved giving children rides to and from school in a vehicle called a “big purple wagon,” according to Parma police Detective Katie Finley he drove children around in his big purple wagon and had his two daughters hand out his big purple wagon business cards at school to recruit more children,” she said A single mother of four told Gallagher that Bahner preyed on her desire for her children to have a male role model in their lives “He did the worst things imaginable to many and sentenced those children to a life of having to learn to deal with and accept the traumas of what occurred in that house so many walked through,” the mother said Her voice choked with intermittent sobs during her statement Bahner kept his head down throughout the proceedings said it’s common for child predators to appear trustworthy and have good standings in the community They work by grooming children and coercing them into sexual contact after earning their trust and friendship The children trusted Bahner so much that one of his victims asked if she could hug him after his trial And he used that position of trust inside of families to prey on their children,” she said She criticized Bahner for never accepting responsibility for “the totality of his conduct.” She asked Gallagher to sentence him to life in prison without the possibility of parole acknowledged that Gallagher only had two options in punishing rape of a victim under 10: life in prison with parole or without it He said life without parole would be “a death penalty “They’re going to castigate this man because he hasn’t accepted responsibility,” he said He maintained it before; he maintains it now.” Asked by Gallagher if he would like to speak Bahner declined on the advice of his attorney so as to not jeopardize a planned appeal she had no discretion to sentence Bahner to anything other than life without parole for the rape offenses with sexually violent predator specifications She told Bahner he’s also classified as a sex offender for life — One driver was seriously injured and another had minor injuries after a crash Thursday morning on State Route 259 The Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to Hilton Parma Corners Road just north of Peck Road around 8:40 a.m Deputies determined a southbound SUV entered the northbound lane and struck a truck that had a plow attached The SUV driver was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries while the truck driver declined further treatment who added drugs and alcohol didn't appear to be factors in the crash
