A roadwork project in Paso Robles may impact your commute beginning Sunday evening
Caltrans is closing the median opening on Highway 101 at Wellsona Road
The agency will be implementing alternating lane closures in both directions of Highway 101 as a result
Caltrans will reportedly place a temporary concrete barrier across the intersection
Officials say the work is part of an ongoing project to construct an undercrossing below the highway south of the Wellsona Road intersection
That project is intended to reduce the number and severity of collisions at the intersection
Work on the undercrossing is set to be complete in early 2026
– Caltrans will close the median opening on U.S
101 at Wellsona Road ahead of schedule as part of ongoing efforts to enhance work zone safety
The closure will require alternating lane closures in both directions of U.S
The decision was made in coordination with the primary contractor
crews will install a temporary concrete barrier across the intersection
The barrier will remain in place throughout the remaining stages of the project
consistent with the original construction plans
The closure is one component of a larger project to construct an undercrossing beneath U.S
south of the current Wellsona Road intersection
The new configuration will eliminate the need for left turns across traffic and will include a 112-foot-long bridge
A frontage road will connect the undercrossing with Wellsona Road on both sides of the highway
The project is designed to reduce the number and severity of collisions at the U.S
The San Paso Truck Stop will remain open and accessible during construction
CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria is the contractor for the $12.2 million project
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2026

– Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has appointed Leonor Buza as its new director of student services
Buza brings more than 25 years of experience in education to the district
She most recently served in the Los Angeles Unified School District
where she held several leadership roles centered on student well-being and achievement
Her responsibilities included oversight of more than 20 schools
as well as leading initiatives in staff training
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Her experience and passion for student success will be instrumental in strengthening our student services programs and supporting the diverse needs of our school community.”
Her background aligns with the district’s goal to foster safe and supportive learning environments for all students
Buza said she looks forward to working with students
and staff to enhance educational experiences throughout the district
How about this; eliminate that position and put that money towards classroom teacher wages
They are the workers who deserve the money
I personally want to know if my child is in school and disabled physical and mentally disabled children can attend school; I’m sorry you dont
Another overpaid administrator to add to the already over staffed administration when teachers and para educators are being laid off
This position could fund 2-3 teaching positions or 3/4 teacher’s aides
We need a more fiscally responsible superintendent
This role is probably one of the most important roles in schools if you read my above statement
Hopefully it isn’t prejudice towards this woman’s ethnicity
The director of student services is in charge of student attendance and it’s entire legalities
due to neglectful parenting; she reports to the DA; CPS
It doesn’t take any more time to look into this than to make a public comment making one’s self look very insecure
They have the liability of this position of being responsible for my child and Pasos children
or if you took time to get off social media
as I was taught in elementary school and by my parents; so I don’t look ill informed
We are blessed with basic education in USA and the internet
if you have nothing nice or informative tonsay
which is weird in this day and age with religion
and libraries and peer reviewed journals etc
And bless California for having free tuition in community colleges; Socialism infrastructure shouldnt be taken for granted
In class teachers is what we need to preserve
They need much higher salaries to buy homes and stay teaching in our communities
Your socialistic outlook is why California is broke
Californians should be angry for having failing schools
Socialism governing doesn’t work in America
Just take a look around any city in our state and see for yourself what this type of governing results in
I can’t force you to be informed even though I just did inform you
You could say thanks for me caring about your image and caring about you not looking silly
And atrocities happen due to such ill informed demographics
maybe we can hike together and catalogue flora and fauna
You can even come fishing with me and my child too
I know you enjoy the fire department and police and EMS
Otherwise it’s horse and buggy and candles

After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer
James David Campana left this earth for his heavenly home on April 13
and he faced every challenge with strength
Jim was born to Nancy (Ostini) Rotta and Jesse James Horton on January 20
He grew up in Templeton and attended Templeton schools

beginning a beautiful journey that would bless them with two cherished daughters
Nothing brought him more joy than seeing his daughters and granddaughters happy and well cared for – his love for them knew no bounds

he carried that same passion and energy into every aspect of his life
He loved riding his Harley alongside his wife and close friends and the peace of camping at the lake and beach
Whether it was a backyard barbeque with family and friends or a community gathering
he took pride in bringing people together and serving others
His barbecue was more than just delicious—it was a reflection of his love for others
Friends and family will always remember the way his cooking made them feel welcomed
Jim had a huge heart and never hesitated to help a friend in need

(Though I’ll never forget that momentous summer of 1999
set to the melodic stylings of Nick Lachey.)
But about an hour’s drive north on the US-101
the small town of Paso Robles still feels comparatively untouched—at least for now
For vineyards planted on the west side of Paso adjacent to the Pacific Ocean
cooler growing conditions can allow for more restrained styles of wine
To the east where it’s warmer (read: notoriously hot)
But Paso’s reputation as a big red wine destination does seem to be on the precipice of change
So for travelers who relish the satisfaction of visiting a destination before it ‘gets big’ I have just the ticket: Paso Robles
the landscape like something out of a classic Western
and the community refreshingly unpretentious
find our travel guide to this California wine region that’s fast on the rise
which offers 26 rooms and is designed in the spirit of a classic American motel
With just 16 rooms (each named after a horse) and a coveted location on Paso’s historic square
Guests entering the property are greeted by a crackling fireplace in the lobby
and a few steps further into the interior courtyard
another large wood-burning fireplace offers a lovely focal point for ending the day with a glass of wine or enlisting the aid of the property’s s’mores butler
Photo: AirbnbThis rich-in-detail rental is owned by an art consultant and offers a bucolic experience for guests
It’s the ideal setting for contextualizing Paso’s distinct landscape
In addition to the numerous fireplaces and private terraces
making this a great choice for couples or friends traveling together
Farm stays are common throughout Paso Robles
and this charming concept hits all the marks with its peaceful setting and pastoral design
Begin your day with a hike around the property’s 42 acres that overlook the esteemed vineyards of L’Aventure Winery
There are two residences to choose from—Le Coop and The Ranch House—both of which curve around a communal fire pit
Photo: The Trailer PondGrab your friends and book out this fun-loving accommodation in the middle of a vineyard
There are five vintage trailers to choose from that all date back to the 1950s and 1960s
each of which is equipped with an enclosed outdoor shower
There’s also an outdoor kitchen with a gas-powered grill and picnic tables
setting the stage for a memorable evening barbecue
It’s not a sin to associate Paso Robles wine with full-bodied reds. What would be a sin, however, is to stop there. “Paso allows for a broader spectrum of grapes and styles of wine,” Riley Hubbard of Hubba Wines says
“From the massive diurnal temperature swings
to all the different microclimates and varied soils
there is a wine for every palate in Paso.” Take her low-intervention wines as an example
Hubbard sources grapes from trusted farmers and sustainable vineyards
producing wines that highlight lesser-known varieties like Valdiguié
Or there’s Guillaume Fabre, the eminently likable owner of Clos Solène who learned his craft in Languedoc Roussillon and Bordeaux as a sixth generation winemaker
“Arriving in Paso Robles in 2000 was like a dream
and the breeze the comes across the westside was all a huge whoa factor,” he says
Fabre’s elegant Rhône blends are the result of refining his style
paying close attention to the climate and minerality of the terroir in west Paso Robles
“I had to take the fruit from California enhanced by the sun and slowly make it my own with my French influence,” he explains
adding that picking the grapes earlier has led to better acidity
or the growing contingency of young natural winemakers crafting with unexpected grape varieties

including building out a zipline and offering guided horseback rides

Winemaker Stephan Asseo left his native France in search of a region with fewer restrictions
He bid adieu to Bordeaux in 1998 and searched for over a year before landing on the terroir of west Paso Robles with its clay-limestone soils (a jackpot discovery)
Asseo is now largely regarded as a pioneer of the region
helping to reshape the perception of its wines
While the discovery flight experience with its views of the vineyard is lovely
the library tasting is even more unique and takes place within L’Aventure’s intimate caves

which was established in 2012 to promote the quality of cabernet sauvignon and red Bordeaux varietals produced in Paso Robles
Composed of 28 member wineries that are dedicated to constantly improving their grape-growing and winemaking practices
this group has helped to propel Paso Robles cabernet-based wines to the top of the U.S
According to Linda Sanpei, Executive Director of the PRCC, “In a recent NielsenIQ report
wines from Paso Robles have grown 7% in retail sales in the past two years
whilst the market is are experiencing an overall decline of 8%,” she reported in an online interview
Paso Robles cabernet sauvignon priced at $15 or more per bottle increased by 12% in retail sales during the same time frame
whereas all other California wine sales decreased by 5%
Paso Robles Wines and $15+ Cabernet Achieve Higher Retails Sales Than Other California Wines
three of the top six Cabernets at every price point are Paso Robles appellate and members of the PRCC,” stated Linda
So how did the Paso Robles wine region achieve such stunning results in a little more than a decade
I interviewed seven members of the Paso Robles CAB Collective via Zoom
it became apparent that there are two overarching reasons for their recent success: 1) the unique terroir of Paso Robles; and 2) the strong spirit of community that pervades the region
and is exemplified in the mission of the PRCC
Paso Robles is located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles
but is only 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean
It is blessed with a dry sunny Mediterranean climate
but cool ocean breezes and fog provide a chilling effect at night
which creates strong diurnal temperature swings
but the temperature drops to 55 degrees at night,” explained Matt Glunz
“This creates bright acidity in the grapes
which results in freshness and balance in our wines.”
Another unique aspect of the Paso Robles wine region is that it is one of the few regions in California that actually has decomposed limestone and calcareous soils
This is found in many of the great vineyards of France
and can impart freshness to the wine and sometimes a taste of minerality
“We believe the calcareous soils helps our wines to have good balance,” reported Neeta Mittal
which is important when balancing the fruit
Indeed the calcareous soils are so special that Damian Grindley
was attracted to Paso Robles for this very reason
“We were looking for a place that has calcareous (limestone) soils
and the fact that Paso Robles is so close to the ocean with the strong diurnal temperature shifts makes it an ideal winegrowing region for cabernet and Bordeaux grape varieties,” he said
These winery owners are supported by the great Andre Tchelistcheff
the father of modern California winemaking from Napa Valley
who visited Paso Robles in the early 1960s and described it as a "jewel of ecological elements," with Bordeaux-like soils and an ideal grape growing climate with cool ocean breezes
Today the region has 11 AVAs and over 200 wineries. The majority of the vineyards are certified sustainable under SIP regulations
and several are pursuing organic and regenerative certifications
CA are Filled with Limestone and Close to the Pacific Ocean
But it is not only the special terroir of the Paso Robles wine region that makes it such a great place to grow cabernet-based grapes
A common theme mentioned by all seven members of the PRCC was the ‘spirit of community.’
Justin Vineyards and others to create the PRCC and invited any Paso Robles winery that was serious about making high-quality cabernet-based wines to join
I helped Daniel start the Collective,” stated Michael Mooney
“We focused on sharing the methods to craft a great wine
barrel aging and other cellar technologies.”
“It’s really about all boats rising with the tide
We all work together,” chimed in Matt Glunz with Glunz Winery
“Everyone is a phone call away,” said Anita Sahi
“If anyone has a question about the vineyard
you just pick up the phone and someone is willing to help.”
and tasting sessions – it is all a testament to the spirit of community,” said Neeta Mittal with LXV
“Paso is a combination of community and excellence,” stated Erin Barret Sparrow
But the PRCC doesn’t just focus on providing education and support for their members
where 40 somms from around the nation are invited to spend a week learning how to make high-quality cabernet sauvignon
They also host members of the media and trade
“Paso has finally found its identity,” stated Rory Longley with Allegretto Winery
And the rise in national distribution of our cabs has been bringing that awareness to the region.”
Are Invited to the Paso Robles CAB Camp Once a Year
As a professional wine judge for more than 15 years
I remember attending the TexSom wine competition about 10 years ago where I spent a day judging over 100 red wines from Paso Robles
but nothing like the seven wines I recently tasted from the PRCC
The level of quality on many of these wines was mind-blowing
It was obvious that Paso Robles has now come into its true stride
and the promise of the region – so long ago recognized by the great Andre Tchelistcheff – has now arrived
Following are my tasting profiles on these wines
this wine opens with a complex nose of boysenberry
it is rich and velvety with juicy cranberry
Overall it has a vibrant joyful energy with intriguing complexity – a true crowd-pleaser
14.5% alcohol; 70% new French oak; drinkable now

#3) Chateau Margene 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Stella’s Vineyard

This starts with boysenberry and black plum
and concluding with a faint hint of minerally sea salt
well-integrated oak and a very long finish
Drinkable now and can be aged 12 to 15 years

Work is expected to begin this summer on a new bridge that will connect S
Vine Street to the intersection of Theater Drive and Highway 46
“The South Bridge project is actually phase two of a four phase project,” said Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza
Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza says this project was a part of the city’s plan ever since 2006
when a developer decided to build the Target shopping center on Theater Drive
The city created a four-phase plan to help help decrease traffic that the shopping center would generate
phase one of the project rerouted Theater Drive into the three-way intersection drivers currently use
connecting South Vine Street to the intersection
if they want to go through the center and their residence
they don't need to access the freeway,” said Esperanza
Paso Robles residents like Holly Collins are excited about the change
“That whole intersection gets so backed up and jammed up
If there's an accident on the freeway and everyone's getting off to come around
I think it's going to make it a lot easier,” said Collins
Phases three and four are still in the design phase
they will include the addition of a northbound and a southbound roundabout near Highway 101
Esperanza says the bridge project will take about 200 working days and should not impact drivers since most construction is happening off the roads
They expect to know a start date for the project and cost soon
Funds will come from the city’s general budget
– The 2025 Wildfire Community Preparedness Day will take place Saturday
focusing on raising awareness of wildfire risks and encouraging actions to reduce them
the San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) urges residents to take steps to protect their homes and communities
This year’s wildfire season has already seen an early and unprecedented start
with the fires in Los Angeles this past January
The Eaton and Palisades fires rank as the second and third most destructive wildfires in California’s history
These fires serve as a stark reminder of the year-round threat wildfires pose to communities and highlight the need for early preparation
The focus of this year’s preparedness efforts is on protecting homes by hardening them against wildfire and creating defensible space around them
Wildfire researchers have determined that installing fine mesh screens in attic and crawl space vents can help protect homes from ignition by wildfire embers
removing all vegetation within the first five feet around homes
These two steps have been scientifically proven to be the most effective ways to increase the likelihood of a home surviving a wildfire
To learn more about wildfire preparedness, residents are encouraged to attend informational events hosted by their local fire department or visit NFPA.org/wildfireprepday

On Tuesday the Paso Robles Housing Authority celebrated the grand opening of Sunrise Villas a new affordable apartment complex
They say 69 of the units are occupied and 1,000 people are on a waitlist
The average apartment in Paso Robles ranges between $2,100 for a 1-bedroom to $3,300 for a 3-bedroom, according to apartments.com
Executive Director of the Paso Robles Housing Authority Loni Willey said those costs are a key reason local families struggle to afford rent
“It is so expensive to live here on the Central Coast
And so any chance that we get to be able to add to the affordable housing stock and neighborhoods throughout the community is really important to us," Willey said
The Housing Authority set out to build low-cost homes for hundreds of deserving families
Construction began in July 2023 and was completed in December 2024
Now officials say 289 people live in the 69-unit complex on Fontana Road
And there are hundreds more hoping for an opportunity to secure affordable housing just like it
“We have 69 families who have just moved in
But we already have over 1,000 people on the waiting list
And so [it] just tells us how much more we need to do to really help all those in need in our community,” said Willey
Rent ranges from around $600 for a 1-bedroom to $1,700 for a 3-bedroom
“One of the national standards for families and for seniors is that they should not have to pay more than 30% of their income towards their rent," Willey said
it becomes a significant burden for families and for seniors to be able to just pay their monthly bills and afford everything it costs to live."
There will be upcoming housing opportunities for more families like these in the future
“We are really looking for those next opportunities and really also to be able to ramp up hopefully the speed in which we can get them built and available for everyone,” said Willey
California's largest immersive art exhibit just got a bit brighter

Award-winning British composer Nainita Desai is responsible for the exhibit's score
"I experienced FOSO and the other exhibits here for the first time last night," said Desai at a press conference Thursday evening alongside Munro
it's thrilling and nothing truly beats the experience of witnessing it in reality
"They have allowed us to create a true concert of connection so that as people
we can express ourselves in an artistic way and get closer together," said Munro
"Not only to each other but the landscape that we inhabit," said

the City of Paso Robles celebrated a significant milestone with the official grand opening of its new Visitor Center — a project years in the making that promises to strengthen community collaboration and elevate the visitor experience throughout the region
Located in the heart of downtown at 1314 Spring St.
the new Official Paso Robles Visitor Center is housed in the welcoming lobby of the Paso Robles and Templeton Chamber of Commerce
The space is now home to two vital organizations — the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce and the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance (PRWCA) — who have partnered to make this long-envisioned hub a reality
The grand opening ceremony on April 9 brought together city officials
and tourism partners to celebrate the new center
which is already being hailed as a key asset for both visitors and the local economy

“When Gina [from the Chamber] came to us a few years ago and said
‘What if we went in together on a shared space that we could both use and create a visitor center that brings people in to get all the information about our community
That idea has now taken form in a space that is modern
and filled with resources. The Visitor Center offers everything from wine maps and tasting room cards to referrals for local attractions
Friendly staff members are on hand to help visitors design their perfect Paso Robles itinerary
whether that includes a day among the vineyards or exploring the charm of downtown
“The mission of the Visitor Center is to provide a warm
friendly welcome to visitors and to showcase the heritage of the Paso Robles region,” said Gina Fitzpatrick
president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce said in a statement.“We strive to enhance visitor experiences by providing information that will maximize enjoyment and encourage return visits.”
Marketing and Membership Development specialist Mae Gonzalez
and Visitor Services staff Debbie Bonafede and Beth Wiesner
are thrilled to finally have a central space that reflects the heart of the community
Bonafede shared her excitement, following the event noting
“This location is ideal for welcoming visitors and giving them everything they need to make the most of their time in Paso Robles.”
A unique touch for wine enthusiasts is the reprint of the original signatures displayed on the entry wall
commemorating the establishment of the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA) — a tribute to the region’s rich winemaking legacy
The new layout of the building is thoughtfully designed
with PRWCA’s business offices located on the Spring Street side and the Chamber managing the Visitor Center on the 13th Street side
Shared common areas emphasize the unified vision of both organizations in promoting Paso Robles as a premier destination for both tourism and commerce
“Wine country tourism is essential to the success of our region,” said Peterson
“By partnering with the Chamber on the Visitor Center
driving additional traffic to our wineries and enhancing the overall experience of Paso Robles as a top-tier wine destination.”

Spring has sprung in Paso Robles Wine Country
Grape vines come out of their winter slumber this time of year with the push of new leaves taking in the gentle warmth of the springtime sun
creating a first glimpse of this year’s crop
so each flower has the potential to become a single berry
and wind become pressure points during flowering that can affect the amount of fruit harvested come fall.
Vine shoots grow quickly this time of year
which are winding stems that act like anchors
These are important because they help expose new leaves to sunlight as well as support the eventual weight of grape clusters as they swell and mature
Vineyard workers keep busy maintaining the quick growth by training the vines to position them for success
They remove unnecessary suckers that grow off the trunks
and nutrients otherwise needed by the vines
Spring is a time of regrowth and of renewal
the beginning of the next vintage and another chance to create that perfect bottle of wine

She says while the practice is still working on the next steps
"We're not turning anyone away," said Cook

After years of people who want to re-home their pets looking to From The Heart Animal Sanctuary for help
the rescue is asking for support with their mission
From The Heart co-owner Leslie Thomas said a simple Google search leads concerned dog owners in their direction
I think we must be on top of the list," Thomas said
Joe Thomas shared why he believes more owners are looking to them for help
If an animal gets a little more advanced in age
A lot of the owners just can’t afford to maintain their well-being so they give them to animal services and then animal services will call us," he said
The rescue is operating at its operational limit of 21 dogs
Their costs for dog food alone are staggering
"We go through 40 pounds [of food] per day
and that runs us $1,200 a month," Leslie said
That equates to $14,400 per year and doesn't include other essential costs
we’ve got two chronic dogs on lifelong medicine and vet checks," Leslie said
They also just learned that one of their first rescues
"It’s gonna be thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars," Leslie said
so we’ll do what we can to raise the money to take care of him."
To help offset those costs, they're asking the community to help by participating in their auction or donating on their website
The couple added that pet owners can also support the mission by providing quality care for their own pets and volunteering at animal shelters

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon has been outperforming the California category in NIQ channels
California's wine sales value in NIQ channels fell eight percent while Paso Robles wine sales value rose seven percent. At the same time
premium California Cabernet Sauvingon sales value fell five percent while Paso Robles Cabernet sales rose twelve percent
Paso Robles CAB Collective executive director Linda Sanpei shared those numbers at a tasting at the Allegretto Vineyard Resort
The organization, established twelve years ago, has been busy. It obtained more than $1.2 million in grants last year; Paso Robles CAB Camp hosted 40 wine buyers from around the country for a three-day immersion; key market visits are planned with a marketing campaign promoting Paso Robles AVA-labeled wines to younger consumers
Paso Wine Month is gaining traction with retailers for June 2026.
"We wouldn't be able to do all this without this strong support of our 65 plus sponsors," Sanpei said.
Also new is the One Block Challenge. The CAB Collective is challenging members to take one block in their vineyards and grow it regeneratively for the next year to see what the outcomes and possibilities are
"We are on course to potentially be the first AVA that's primarily regeneratively farmed," Sanpei said
A fire at a home in Paso Robles Saturday morning has left one person injured and displaced
according to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services
The agency says it responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Pacific Avenue at 9:06 a.m
Crews from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services
and the Atascadero Fire Department reportedly arrived at the scene to find smoke coming out of the attic vents and an active fire in the kitchen
Authorities say one occupant who was home at the time of the fire sustained minor burns to the hand
the fire was quickly contained to the kitchen before it fully extended into the attic
The American Red Cross is reportedly assisting the occupant with housing while repairs are being completed on the home
Officials say no fire personnel were injured
The cause of the fire has not yet been reported
the city of Paso Robles is advising people to think twice before draining their pool
Paso Robles Stormwater Program Manager Kim Porter says this is a popular time of year for people to drain their pools and put in fresh water for the summer
While pool owners are allowed to drain their pools
Porter tells me there are some guidelines people should follow to ensure that everyone stays safe
“The first thing we want you to do is try to infiltrate it into your yard,” Porter explains
“The second option you have is to put it in your sanitary sewer clean out
which is usually located in the front part of your yard.”
She says the third and least preferred way is to drain it to the street
Porter says people should avoid putting chemicals in their pool for a few days before draining it to prevent environmental damage
She says that improper drainage affects everyone
since the flows directly into the river without treatment
Local pool owner Tim Eckles says the last time he drained his pool
he used the water for the pine tree in his backyard
“I can understand it being desirable to contain water on the property and doing something useful with it," he said
Porter says that if you are planning on discharging pool water to the street or sanitary sewer
Paso Robles Recreation Services offers various water safety courses
children aged 9-11 can take an Aqua Safe class at the Municipal Pool
to learn how to respond during a water emergency
Parents can register their children here
Vanessa Orr is a parent to two young swimmers and said she enrolled her son in Thursday's Aqua Safe class to build on his previous years of swim lessons
you're always worried when your kids are in the water
You're just wanting to be mindful of their safety
my kids have learned some really great skills through the Centennial and Municipal Pool programs
So I think that I feel fairly safe with them being confident that they can swim on their own," Orr said
Orr hopes her son Manny will leave the class with the ability to help someone else
"If he sees a friend having a problem in the water
how he can find an adult to help that friend in a quick manner and being safe with all of that," Orr said
Aquatics Coordinator Victoria Teeter said PRRS offered Aqua Safe this year to prevent young swimmers from drowning
"Children drowning is the leading cause of death for children between 1 to 14
And so we just really want to cut [the] numbers here in Paso and all over," Teeter said
Teeter said their Aqua Safe course is based on material from the American Red Cross
It teaches the swimmers how they can use tools like a shepherd's hook to help respond during a drowning
here are some tips that - if you have a friend that is in trouble
go get an adult for help or a lifeguard for help," Teeter said
She said Thursday's class will focus on understanding which life jackets are life-saving
And so it'll tell you right on the life jacket," Teeter said

Two properties the school district owns are now up for grabs
The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is discussing how to best make use of the vacant property as the district deals with declining enrollment
“It is a nationwide issue and we have gone to several workshops studying this from statewide leaders that are seeing this and just the impact across the nation," Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Brad Pawlowski said
A piece of land at the corner of Montebello Oaks Drive and Kleft Road is being sold
purchased by the district using capital facility dollars
and will not be going into the general fund
Therefore it won't offset the remainder of the budget deficit
Two parcel at River Grove Drive that was once home to Phillips Freedom School during the Civil Rights Movement is also being sold
That money will be going toward one-time fund expenditures
“Getting rid of just pieces of property that we're sitting on that we still have to maintain from some standpoint
we'd have to do abatement on a regular basis," Pawlowski said of the maintenance
"There's a potential for vandalism and we have to take care of that
So if we don't need those pieces of property
The school district is also looking for ways to utilize the old Georgia Brown Elementary School on 36th Street
The students that used to occupy it will most likely be the last to do so on the property
"I would personally like to see a little more open space
a kid friendly park where [my daughter] can run around freely," nearby resident Andy Park said
Other residents in the area we talked to agreed the area should at least be tailored for children who live in the area and used to attend Georgia Brown
Negotiations for the Montebello Oaks property are currently underway with an interested private buyer according to the school district
KSBY will continue following this story and bring you updates on any further decisions made
Sixty-one single-family homes are being built right as part of the Vinedo community built by Shea Homes
The Morada Project is located just 10 minutes away from downtown Paso Robles is part of the Vinedo Master-Planned Community on the east side
the Vinedo community will include 1,293 residential units
“I think it has still a lot of affordability in the state of California," Paso Robles resident Claudia Phillips said
The development is the city’s largest since 2008 according to a 2022 report by then city engineer
The design plans include both single story and two story homes
It's aimed at welcoming first time buyers and new families to Paso Robles
“It should probably be a little more controlled
a little slower pace than it is right now," Phillips added of the new additions near her home
The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is experiencing a decline in enrollment according to current superintendent Jennifer Loftus and former superintendent Curt Dubost
other nearby residents are concerned about lack of resources at schools and things like water since residents say they're being told to conserve
“Fred [Strong] did send a letter to the association," Ray Smoot said
"Said they did negotiate to get water from Nacimiento
but 'x' amount of water has to go into the river
that'll be interesting when it all gets there."
There is no current update on when construction is set to start and when these homes will be completed by
Prices for the family style homes is expected to come out late this year
