AZ — Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office officials say a registered sex offender is in custody after reportedly breaking into a home early Wednesday morning in Paulden
deputies were called to a home along State Route 89 for what was thought to be a trespassing situation
Investigators learned that 54-year-old Lloyd Beard of Prescott had broken into a home with a mother and her two children inside
Beard had made his way into the room of the 12-year-old girl
YCSO says he started touching the girl and got into bed with her
The daughter was able to wake the mother and she removed Beard from the home after he refused to leave
Officials say Beard exposed himself and threatened the woman before he took off running
The mother and her 16-year-old son then chased after Beard and detained him until law enforcement arrived
He was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody
“The quick action of the mother saved not only her daughter from further trauma but managed to help take a dangerous predator off the streets,” YCSO said in a press release
“Lloyd is a level 3 sex offender who registered with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office last week.”
Beard is set to be booked into jail on numerous counts of aggravated assault
Beard’s past offenses include “invasion of privacy for sexual gratification” in Colorado and failure to register as a sex offender in Arizona

Australia's leading eating disorder charity has slammed a proposal that would see school nurses weigh students.
The Australian College of Nursing says weighing kids in schools could help prevent obesity, but the Butterfly Foundation says the idea is "outrageous."

TranscriptSamantha Donovan: Australia's leading eating disorder charity has slammed a proposal for students to be weighed by school nurses. The Australian College of Nursing says monitoring kids' weight and height each year could help identify those at risk of becoming obese. But the Butterfly Foundation says the idea is outrageous. Lexie Jeuniewic has more.
Lexie Jeuniewic: Sally Paulden has lived through the pain of watching a loved one battle an eating disorder twice. Both her daughters grappled with disorders which began in their teens.
Sally Paulden: You're just in the abyss of madness. I think unless you've had lived experience you really can't understand.
Lexie Jeuniewic: Ms Paulden, who's a former nurse, says while her girls are now doing well, she was horrified to read about the Australian College of Nursing's proposal to weigh children at school.
Sally Paulden: I just could not believe everything I've learnt in the last 12, 18 months through the Eating Disorder Clean With Barwon Health, through the Butterfly Foundation and other organisations. It was just so backward, like did they just want a headline grab for funding or something?
Lexie Jeuniewic: The strategy would see pupils' weight and height collected annually by a school nurse with parental consent. Karen Grace is the College's National Director of Professional Practice. She says the proposal aims to curb rising obesity rates, with 2022 data from the Bureau of Statistics showing more than a quarter of children were overweight or obese.
Lexie Jeuniewic: Karen Grace says the strategy isn't just about weighing children. It's about normalising conversations about height and weight with kids and reducing stigma.
Karen Grace: One of the key focus areas for us is addressing stigma through positive language and talking about healthy weight as opposed to being obese or overweight and looking at healthy choices and helping to support kids and their families to make healthy choices.
Lexie Jeuniewic: But the Butterfly Foundation believes it will do exactly the opposite. The charity advocates for people affected by eating disorders and issues relating to the body image. Dr Stephanie Damiano works with the foundation.
Dr Stephanie Damiano: It's quite outrageous really. I think it's mind boggling that helping children maintain what they've termed healthy weight is being put forward as a solution to combating weight stigma. Reducing children's weight does not reduce the problem of weight stigma, which is negative attitudes and discrimination of individuals of high weight. In the same way that we wouldn't suggest changing people's race to combat racial stigma.
Lexie Jeuniewic: Dr Damiano says the college's plan puts more children at risk of developing eating disorders.
Lexie Jeuniewic: And I suppose, you know, going back to this idea that's been proposed, do you think that, you know, we could see more of those stories if we are to start weighing kids at school?
Dr Stephanie Damiano: Absolutely. I think this proposal has the potential to do so much harm and our children deserve so much better from us. We need to support them to be happy and healthy in the bodies that they have. And I don't see that this proposal is the solution to that.
Samantha Donovan: The Butterfly Foundation's Dr Stephanie Damiano ending that report from Lexie Jeuniewic.
