Rory McIlroy won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Sunday to become just the fourth golfer since 1985 to post a victory in eight consecutive seasons On a day when six players had at least a share of the lead McIlroy took the top spot for good with a 6-iron out of the bunker to 18 feet for birdie on 10th hole into a stiff breeze along the Pacific He hit a towering 7-iron to 8 feet for birdie on the par-3 12th to stretch his lead to two And then the 14th was effectively the clincher leaving everyone else scrambling for second McIlroy hit 5-iron off the tee with a three-shot lead and was happy to get his hands on the crystal trophy Among players still actively playing, only Tiger Woods (82) and Phil Mickelson (45) have won more Mickelson also was 35 when he got his 27th tour title Lowry fell out of a share for the lead when he sent his second shot over a cliff to the right of the par-5 sixth including a birdie on the final hole for a 68 that gave him second place alone Lucas Glover (67) and Justin Rose (68) were another shot behind who started the final round with a one-shot lead "I always say I believe when players like Rory McIlroy turns up and they have their 'A' game they're pretty impossible to beat," Lowry said Scottie Scheffler 1 player whose season was delayed by minor hand surgery from punctured glass while making ravioli McIlroy was inspired by Scheffler's tendency to avoid mistakes he stole a page from that book this week at Pebble by tempering his aggressiveness nature He made only one bogey on the weekend at Pebble Beach McIlroy has talked about this being an important year for him though his focus was more on April through September -- an 11th chance to complete the career Grand Slam at the Masters a return home to Northern Ireland for the Open Championship "It's a really cool way to start the season," McIlroy said but this week also featured a hole-in-one at Spyglass Hill in the opening round and his first time venturing over to play Cypress Point Rory McIlroy's two-shot victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was the 15th PGA Tour win of his career by multiple shots trailing only Vijay Singh (20) for the most by an international player all-time And now he heads back to Florida with another trophy and loads of momentum for what he hopes will be a big year The sixth hole began to separate the pack a little. In consecutive groups, Rose went over the cliff with his tee shot and Tom Kim hit down the hill toward the ocean with his second shot McIlroy looked as though he was the player to beat from the second hole when he hit a tough pitch from 50 yards away over a bunker to a back pin with enough height and spin to set up a 2-foot birdie putt But it was after his lone bogey on the tough eighth hole where he pulled away Everyone else was left in a hopeless chase "There's a reason he's got 20-something wins and a bunch of majors and the game he has Impressive round out there today under the pressure and under the conditions." McIlroy won his second signature event -- he won at Quail Hollow last year -- to earn $3.6 million one shot to par away from the tournament record staying within range until missing a 7-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole that would have narrowed the gap to two gave him a tidy consolation of $2.16 million for second place Timberlake x Nike shoe collab early access The final around of the 2025 Pebble Beach Pro will be chalk full of drama The PGA Tour got what it wanted The final round of the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am the season’s second Signature Event, will be full of storylines with Rory McIlroy Justin Rose and others trying to track down leader Sepp Straka who is going for his second win of the season while battling the flu McIlroy and Lowry will begin the day one shot back of Straka 1 Scottie Scheffler has played well in his return to the PGA Tour after suffering a puncture wound in his right hand while making ravioli on Christmas Day Whoever wins on Sunday will take home $3.6 million, while second place will take home $2.16 million. (AP) — Rory McIlroy played a game nearly as magnificent as the Pebble Beach scenery Sunday as he powered his way past a pack of contenders and closed with a 6-under 66 for a two-shot victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. McIlroy is one of the top attractions in golf, which only added to the appeal of the surprising sunshine and crashing surf at America's most famous coastal golf course. And just like that, a sleepy start to the PGA TOUR season had some life to it. On a day when six players had at least a share of the lead, McIlroy took the top spot for good with an 18-foot birdie putt on the 10th hole into a stiff breeze along the Pacific. He effectively ended the drama with a towering drive and a 7-iron into the 571-yard 14th hole, setting up an eagle putt from just outside 25 feet. “To win at one of the cathedrals of golf is really cool,” McIlroy said. Shane Lowry fell out of a share for the lead when he sent his second shot over a cliff to the right of the par-5 sixth. But he shot 31 on the back nine, including a birdie on the final hole for a 68 that gave him second place alone. Shane Lowry wedges it tight to close with birdie at AT&T Pebble Beach Lucas Glover (67) and Justin Rose (68) were another shot behind. Sepp Straka, who started the final round with a one-shot lead, had a 72 and tied for seventh. Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1 player whose season was delayed by minor hand surgery from punctured glass while making ravioli, closed with a 67 and tied for ninth. McIlroy has talked about this being an important year for him, though his focus was more on April through September — an 11th chance to complete the career Grand Slam at the Masters, a return home to Northern Ireland for the The Open Championship, a road Ryder Cup at Bethpage. “It's a really cool way to start the season,” said McIlroy, who won for the second time in California. “To get this win this early means a great deal, and hopefully I'll keep the momentum going into Torrey Pines in a couple weeks' time.” Rory McIlroy’s interview after winning AT&T Pebble Beach The sixth hole began to separate the pack a little. In consecutive groups, Rose went over the cliff with his tee shot and Tom Kim hit down the hill toward the ocean with his second shot. Lowry followed him in the final group, leading to bogey. But really, McIlroy looked as though he was the player to beat from the second hole, when he hit a tough pitch from 50 yards away over a bunker to a back pin with enough height and spin to set up a 2-foot birdie putt. But it was after his lone bogey on the tough eighth hole where he pulled away — the 18-foot birdie on the 10th, a tee shot into 8 feet for birdie on the par-3 12th and finally get his due on the 14th hole. McIlroy drilled his drive for the third straight day over a tree, over the bunker complex and into the fairway. The previous two days, he had to settle for par. This time, he cashed in for an eagle, extending his lead to four shots. And when he hit wedge into 3 feet for birdie on the 15th, it led to one of the best stress-free and gorgeous walks on the PGA TOUR. Rory McIlroy's monster drive leads to eagle at AT&T Pebble Beach Everyone else was left in a hopeless chase. “When he's good, he's great. And when he's not great, he's good,” Glover said. “There's a reason he's got 20-something wins and a bunch of majors and the game he has. Impressive round out there today under the pressure and under the conditions.” McIlroy won for the 27th time on the PGA TOUR and is 21st on the career victory list. He's been stuck on four majors since winning the PGA Championship 11 years ago, and that he is sure to be reminded of that as the Masters gets closers. For now, this will do. It's his second victory in a Signature Event that McIlroy and other top players helped to create. “When he’s good, he’s great and when he’s not great, he’s good,” Glover said. “There’s a reason he’s got 20-something wins and a bunch of majors and the game he has. Impressive round out there today under the pressure and under the conditions.” McIlroy won his second Signature Event — he won at Quail Hollow last year — to earn $3.6 million. He finished at 21-under 267, one shot to par away from the tournament record. Lowry at least tried to make him sweat, staying within range until missing a 7-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole that would have narrowed the gap to two. His final birdie, however, gave him a tidy consolation of $2.16 million for second place. “I always say I believe when players like Rory McIlroy turns up and they have their ‘A’ game, they're pretty impossible to beat,” Lowry said. and it paid dividends at the 2025 Pebble Beach Pro-Am The 22-year-old switched to the Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 this week He debuted the putter during his TGL match on Monday where his Jupiter Links GC team defeated Boston Common Golf Kim poured in putts from everywhere on the artificial turf and kept the flat stick hot at Pebble Beach Kim gained 3.30 shots on the greens during Friday’s round of 65 and he followed that up by picking up 0.48 shots on the green in the third round to put himself in contention entering Sunday something that I’ve putted well with,” Kim said of his putter change on Friday they both have their positives and they both have their negatives I just felt like I needed something a little bit more consistent and something that I’ve won with “It’s not exactly the same blade that I’ve been using But I think transitioning from the mallet — some of my lines I started to really like a different type of line than I used to And obviously the new face that they came out with is really nice so it’s been working well so far.” Kim started the day two shots back of leader Sepp Straka but hoped that his red-hot putter would carry him to a Signature Event win and the $3.6 million check that comes with it Rory McIlroy played a near-flawless round of golf to win his 27th career PGA Tour event here’s the complete breakdown for this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Final payouts will be updated upon conclusion of the final round) Lucas Glover $1,160,000Justin Rose $1,160,000 Scottie Scheffler $535,000Billy Horschel $535,000Tayor Pendrith $535,000 Jason Day $368,500Tony Finau $368,500Andrew Novak $368,500Austin Eckroat $368,500 T17: Tom Hoge $272,000Collin Morikawa $272,000Seamus Power $272,000Min Woo Lee $272,000Sam Stevens $272,000 T22: Gary Woodland $146,909Akshay Bhatia $146,909Taylor Moore $146,909Patrick Rodgers $146,909Eric Cole $146,909Byeong Hun An $146,909Tommy Fleetwood $146,909Viktor Hovland $146,909Adam Scott $146,909Sam Burns $146,909Rasmus Hojgaard $146,909 Keith Mitchell $99,000Sungjae Im $99,000Nick Taylor $99,000Patrick Cantlay $99,000Lee Hodges $99,000Jake Knapp $99,000J.J Robert MacIntyre $66,375Aaron Rai $66,375Jhonattan Vegas $66,375Maverick McNealy $66,375Erik Van Rooyen $66,375Christiaan Bezuidenhout $66,375Stephan Jaeger $66,375Mackenzie Hughes $66,375T48.: Justin Thomas $48,600Hideki Matsuyama $48,600Thomas Detry $48,600Matt Fitzpatrick $48,600Will Zalatoris $48,600 Sahith Theegala $43,000Rickie Fowler $43,000Brian Harman $43,000Max Homa $43,000J.T Davis Thompson $39,250Denny McCarthy $39,250Nick Dunlap $39,250Harry Hall $39,250 T65: Adam Hadwin $36,000Corey Conners $36,000Keegan Bradley $36,000 T69: Jordan Spieth $34,500Ben Griffin $34,500Beau Hossler $34,50072 Harris English $33,375Mark Hubbard #33,375Wyndham Clark $33,375Matthieu Pavon $33,375 Rory McIlroy charged into contention ahead of the final round of the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am The 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am comes to an end on Sunday, February 2, with the final round at historic Pebble Beach You can find full AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tee times for Sunday’s final round at the bottom of this post On a wet and windy day at Pebble Beach, World No. 3 Rory McIlroy looked plenty comfortable. His 65 in the wind and rain tied Lowry for the low round of the day. McIlroy called it a “really good poor-weather performance” and his performance on Pebble Beach’s difficult seaside stretch – he played Nos. 6-10 in 1 under par – displayed his ability to control his ball in the wind. “As long as you managed it and sort of really controlled the flight of your golf ball, … there was a score out there,” McIlroy said after the third round. He started Sunday tied with Lowry and a stroke behind leader Sepp Straka. McIlroy and Straka were tied after Straka’s bogey at the opening hole, however, and McIlroy took the lead with a hard-earned birdie at the par-5 second, one that was a credit to his improved wedge play. He pulled his tee shot into a bunker left of the fairway and hit his second shot into the rough short and left of the hole. He hit his 50-yard pitch to 3 feet, however. After three-putting the par-5 sixth for par, McIlroy holed a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-3 seventh hole. He gave it back with a bogey at the next hole, however, after his approach missed left of the green. That was his only bogey of the weekend. Lowry birdied the next hole but missed an 8-foot birdie putt at 17 that would have pulled him within two strokes. It was just enough to give McIlroy a comfortable margin on the final hole. “He's just so in control,” Lowry said. “He drives the ball incredibly well, he always does. He was just in control of his ball today and he putted nicely. It all came together. I think like he said, if he cuts out his mistakes with his irons, he's very hard to beat.” Rory McIlroy’s Round 4 winning highlights from AT&T Pebble Beach This victory gave McIlroy an encouraging start to 2025 after a year that was defined by heartbreak. McIlroy won four times worldwide in 2024, and capped the year by winning his sixth Race to Dubai, but he also finished second four times, often in heartbreaking fashion. There was the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where McIlroy missed short par putts on two of the final three holes, and also the Irish Open at Royal County Down in his native Northern Ireland. McIlroy led by four shots early in the Irish Open’s final round, but Rasmus Højgaard birdied four of the final five holes to sprint past the home favorite. McIlroy bogeyed the second-to-last hole, then narrowly missed an eagle putt on the final hole that would have forced a playoff. McIlroy also finished fifth in the Olympics, missing his first medal by two strokes. He double-bogeyed the 15th hole after hitting a wedge shot into the water, then said, “I feel like I’ve been golf’s ‘Nearly Man’ for the last three years.” Sunday was a test of some of those learnings from last year. He talked about “being in a different place mentally” and using breathing exercises to slow down during stressful moments. “I think the one thing that I did today really well is I didn't get too flustered,” McIlroy said Sunday. “It certainly feels a little more boring to me. It might look a little bit more boring on the golf course, but it's definitely more effective. That's something that I'm consciously trying to do a little bit better of a job at, and today was a good test and I was able to come through it pretty well.” McIlroy’s performances at the other courses that he listed in the game’s upper echelon had been defined by disappointment. He’s been runner-up three times in the DP World Tour’s Dunhill Links at St. Andrews and losing The Open Championship in 2022 there ranks among the hardest losses of his career. Conquering Augusta National is the lone accomplishment standing between McIlroy and the career Grand Slam. This was just McIlroy’s fifth competitive appearance at Pebble Beach, though. He’d missed the cut twice (2010 U.S. Open, 2018 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am). He finished T9 in the 2019 U.S. Open here, then didn’t return until last year, when he finished T66 in the 80-man field. He was a member of the winning pro-am team, however, an accomplishment that got his name on the wall of champions behind the first tee. It is more satisfying to be included for his own accomplishment, however. “There's some venues in our game that just mean a little bit more than others,” he said. And now, McIlroy is a winner at one. eight of the top 10 golfers in the world will be participating making this year's Pro-Am a can't-miss event for fans of the PGA Last year's tournament had its ups and downs. Scottie Scheffler curls in 33-footer for birdie at AT&T Pebble Beach But after pushing himself hard in cold Texas weather in the week preceding Pebble and waiting until that Friday to fully commit to playing, it was an encouraging week for the two-time defending PLAYERS champion and reigning Olympic gold medalist. Sepp Straka gets up-and-down from the bunker for birdie at AT&T Pebble Beach PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Sepp Straka took a trip down to the beach that derailed his round Saturday, and then recovered with four birdies on his last five holes in a cold, whipping wind for a 2-under 70 to reclaim the lead over the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. McIlroy was practically flawless, at least in the nasty conditions, by getting through the exposed stretch of Pebble Beach Golf Links without dropping a shot and chipping his way around for a bogey-free 65. Lowry got off to a birdie-eagle-birdie start that allowed for a few mistakes around the turn and he finished with two birdies on the last three holes for a 65. Just don't get the idea Irish weather was well-suited for McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Lowry (Ireland), especially because they now are neighbors in South Florida. “It might suit me somewhat, but I don't enjoy it,” Lowry said. “I live in Florida for a reason. I think my game is well-equipped to handle these conditions and I go out there, kind of no fear, and I know I just need to batten down the hatches and make pars when I can.” The second Signature Event of the year produced big names at the top, and this one had a distinctive Ryder Cup feel — European, that is. Rory McIlroy hits it pin-high to set up birdie at AT&T Pebble Beach Straka, the Austrian-born Georgia Bulldog coming off a win in the California desert, blasted out of the sand to 4 feet for one last birdie that putt him at 16-under 200, one shot ahead of McIlroy and Lowry, his Ryder Cup teammates from Marco Simone. Justin Rose of England, an AT&T Pebble Beach winner in 2023 and part of Team Europe later that year, was another shot behind. Scottie Scheffler, in his 2025 debut delayed by his hand surgery from a freak puncture wound, held it together for a 69 and was six shots behind. Gone are the days of the old Crosby Clambake, with amateurs having left on Friday. But it was reminiscent of the Clambake weather, not the prettiest pictures but a delight to see golf's best players have their hands full with a wind ripping off the Pacific Ocean. Scheffler couldn't believe it when he hit a 5-iron as pure as can be on the 10th hole and watched it fly only 155 yards, 20 yards short of his target. Lowry knows the feeling. He drilled a 3-iron and came up short. McIlroy had a suitable game plan. When the wind arrived as he was on the sixth hole, he said he turned to caddie Harry Diamond and said, “Let's try to chip the ball around today.” “I feel like I didn't make a full swing after that,” McIlroy said. He had to save par six times from the rough and bunkers, none more valuable than from down in the high grass below the 10th green to 6 feet and a key par putt. “That was a key up-and-down to just to keep the momentum of the round going,” he said. Rory McIlroy gets up-and-down to save par at AT&T Pebble Beach The 10th hole is where Straka nearly came undone. His approach sailed well to the right, over the cliff and onto the beach. He went down to the sand and picked up his golf ball, taking the penalty shot instead of trying the dramatic shot off the beach, and did well to salvage bogey. But he bogeyed the next two holes, going from a four-shot lead early in the round to trailing by two shots. Straka, though, is equipped with newfound confidence and steadied himself on the way in with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, a 30-foot birdie putt for the only birdie of the day on the par-3 17th and his closing birdie. It sets up a final round in which six players are separated by two shots and Scheffler, the world's No. 1 player, hanging around on the edge of contention. He didn't birdie a par 5 until the last hole — two par 5s on the front were in benign conditions — but made a pair of birdies late. “I hung in there on a day where I didn’t have my best stuff,” Scheffler said. McIlroy doesn't usually have great success on the West Coast — his lone California victory was in early May in the WGC-Dell Match Play at Harding Park in 2015 — but has talked about this being a big year for him on several fronts. Pebble Beach wasn't at the front of his mind, but it is now. “It's really cool to be in contention this early in the season,” he said. McIlroy and Lowry both began the week making a hole-in-one — Lowry on the seventh hole at Pebble Beach, McIlroy on the 15th at Spyglass — and now the longtime friends from Irish golf will be in the final group with Straka. “There's a few courses in the world that you would like to win on and this is definitely one of them,” Lowry said. “So you try not to think about stuff like that and hopefully it comes to you someday.” Although we told you it was getting ready to open last issue the second Sindbad Tampa restaurant — which features smoothies ice cream and more — is now open in the former  Long-time Pebble Creek resident Leslie Green is still in limbo but it’s nothing new for the founder of “Save Pebble Creek,” the organization she started two years ago in an effort to prevent Pebble Creek Golf Club owner Bill Place and his Ace Golf from rezoning the golf course land to allow for further residential development.  Development company GL Homes had attempted to rezone the 149-acre golf course property in order to build 250 single-family homes Green and her Save Pebble Creek group began holding community meetings and distributing petitions asking the community to oppose Place’s plan to sell the golf course to GL Homes although there were some members of the community who supported the idea of redeveloping the shuttered golf course the campaign resulted in a flurry of emails to Hillsborough County Commission Chair and District 2 Commissioner Ken Hagan.  Place then sued Green for defaming his character and for interfering with his attempts to find a developer but then sought to have Place’s suit dismissed under Florida’s Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) statute that case still has not been decided.  GL Homes’ attempt to rezone the golf course property was denied 5-2 by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) after Hagan said he had received 1,800 letters from residents of the community the vast majority of which were in opposition to the rezoning.  whose home has faced the golf course for more than 30 years applauded Hagan’s efforts to preserve the beauty of her community Hagan said at the time that Place only had a couple of options going forward:  “He can come up with another developer with a different plan that might be more acceptable to the residents,” Comm “We’ve also discussed the possibility of the county purchasing the golf club to convert it to a county-owned course but he (Place) would have to come down in price a lot for us to be interested.”  Green also suggested that Place might’ve been waiting for this year’s elections when three of the seven Commission seats are up for grabs in the hopes that perhaps the new commissioners might look more favorably upon the rezoning proposal.  the home builder appealed the county commission’s denial of the rezoning request to Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Paul Huey Judge Huey “quashed” the decision by the BOCC to deny the rezoning “to set aside or void.” (Note-For a lot more information about why the BOCC’s decision was quashed the county had its own decision to make: Either ask Judge Huey for a rehearing appeal the judge’s verdict to a higher court or allow GL Homes to proceed with its development plan.  the county filed a petition to the Circuit Court for a rehearing Judge Huey’s ruling on the developer’s appeal was that “The court cannot find that the Board of County Commissioners relied on competent substantial evidence when it denied GL Homes’ proposal.”  The judge also felt that the BOCC’s decision was more of a personal attack on Place even though neither he nor his Ace Golf submitted the rezoning proposal Although the Board’s original decision was based on the rezoning “not being infill and not compatible with the Comprehensive Plan,” the judge saw that GL Homes’ rezoning request was recommended for BOCC approval by the county’s Planning Commission and the zoning hearing master (ZHM) both of which said the proposed development was consistent with the comprehensive plan The judge also noted that Hagan said he was basing his decision to deny the rezoning on the Pebble Creek resident emails that accused Place of “spiteful tactics “overlooked record evidence or misapprehended several points of law or fact in a manner that the County believes fundamentally affected the Court’s Order Granting Petition for Writ of Certiorari (“Order”) The County requests rehearing and requests that this Court rescind its Order Granting Petition for Writ of Certiorari and issue an Order Denying Petition for Writ of Certiorari.”  the county said that Judge Huey did not consider all of the factual evidence upon which the county based its decision “The Application for rezoning as proposed would result in a complete change to the character of the existing community by eliminating the central feature of a neighborhood which has existed for decades this decision has the potential to impact redevelopment of other similar communities within the State of Florida.”  The county’s arguments for requesting the rehearing included the following:  There was Competent Substantial Evidence for the BOCC to Deny Petitioner’s Application the Florida Supreme Court has set forth a framework that requires rezoning applicants to prove that their proposal is consistent with the comprehensive plan and complies with all procedural requirements of the zoning ordinance If a rezoning applicant provides competent substantial evidence that its application is consistent with the comprehensive plan the Board may still deny the application to accomplish “a legitimate public purpose,” at which point the Board has “the burden of showing that the refusal to rezone the property is not arbitrary the Court concluded that there was no competent substantial evidence that the Application did not comply with the Comprehensive Plan nor was there competent substantial evidence to support the County’s legitimate public purpose for denying the Application the Court overlooked competent substantial record evidence on which the Board could have relied or misapprehended several points of law or fact.”  “Under this Court’s limited scope of review it must be determined whether the record contains any competent substantial evidence to support the Board’s denial it does not matter whether there is also evidence to support a conclusion different from that reached by the Board for ‘the point is that when the facts are such as to give the County Commission a choice between alternatives it is up to the County Commission to make that choice — not the circuit court.’”  As for the evidence that the BOCC made the correct decision here is a summary of what the petition for rehearing says:  [The Application] is inconsistent with he Comprehensive Plan.  The open space character of the subject property is an integral part of the neighborhood.  The removal of the open space around which the surrounding existing neighborhood was developed and constructed would not protect nor maintain the neighborhood’s character  five years before the Pebble Creek Planned Development was rezoned The golf course was included as a central part of the zoning and integral to the neighborhood design.  The golf course also was an integral part of the neighborhood’s character The golf course is identified on the plan as the center of the planned development around which the other uses in the neighborhood were designed and planned.  it is a central component — or cornerstone — of that planned development which currently makes up 25 percent of the acreage of the planned development is a significant change to the character of this golf course community.  There is testimony in the record taken by the ZHM that supplements the other record evidence that the existing 150-acre golf course is the centerpiece of the neighborhood and that to completely eliminate its use and to replace it with a residential development would be to lose an integral part of the neighborhood itself.  Pebble Creek was “uniquely designed” to incorporate the golf course and by removing it “you are removing the very thing that built the community.” The golf course was a “primary reason” or “major factor” for some of the homeowners to live in the community.  the Court notes that “[t]he Board argues logically that because the neighborhood was designed and built around the golf course the land acts as a fundamental ‘centerpiece,’” which appears to imply that that the Board’s determination about the neighborhood having been designed and built around the golf course was based merely on logic and inference rather than substantial competent evidence in the record and lay witness fact-based testimony to support its determination.  The Board also cited evidence that supports that the retention of the existing zoning accomplishes “a legitimate public purpose.” As argued at the Hearing the legitimate public purpose is to protect the character of the neighborhood which is not only a recognized public purpose under current case law but also a mandate of the County’s Comprehensive Plan.  Judge Huey also ruled that the Board’s decision was based on the belief that the president of Ace Golf “lacks good sense and common decency.” However the basis for the Board’s denial must be found in its adopted resolution and not in singular comments made by a particular commissioner regarding an application or voting on an application substantial evidence that the Application was inconsistent with the County’s Comprehensive Plan and that there was a legitimate public purpose to maintain the existing zoning and therefore support a denial of the Application the Court misstated the Board’s reasons for denial of the Application by relying on a commissioners’ comments rather than the Board-adopted resolution.”  Hagan says that once Judge Huey rules on the Petition for Rehearing the county has 30 days to accept his decision or appeal the judge’s ruling to an appellate court.  “We still feel that the BOCC made the right decision and the rehearing will give them the opportunity to give the judge more clarity to see that they did in fact use proper evidence in making their decision.”  Rezoning the golf course will change completely the character and beauty of our neighborhood forever.”  She’s holding out hope that the county’s Tampa Sports Authority will be able to purchase the golf course and reopen it Hagan mentioned could happen at his June 10 New Tampa Town Hall meeting (as we reported last issue).  all Leslie Green can do is continue to wait You must be logged in to post a comment. condo down there and so worrying about where to sleep has never been an issue.  Consequently this list is based just off my thoughts about the golfing experience only There are three courses at the Myrtle Beach National facility Arguably one of the best Arnold Palmer designs anywhere the highlight is "The Gambler" a fantastic risk/reward par 5 that will always be one of your favorite holes (pictured above) On just about anyone's list of great Myrtle Beach Courses Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is at or near the top of it.  Designer Mike Strantz was the genius behind "Tobacco Road" in the Sandhills of North Carolina (which just so happens to be my favorite course on Earth).  This and its sister course are artistic masterpieces.  Now these are among the most expensive to play Which leads me to Caledonia's sister course True Blue.  Another Strantz gem and again it is well worth it with some of the best and most memorable holes in the area this course for me had the title of "Best Bang for Your Golfing Buck at Myrtle Beach."  It's got a little bit of everything:  elevation changes tremendous par 4 variety and some of the finest holes along the Intercoastal Waterway anywhere in the area.  Also its practice facilities are among the best My current "Best Bang..." title holder is this course that many drive by on 17 on the way to N Myrtle and don't pay a bit of attention to.  Arcadian Shores was purchased by Hilton 7-10 years ago and over that time millions of dollars have been poured into the course and amenities.  The greens and bunkers are always a good method to judge a course by and the consistency of both at Arcadian Shores take a backseat to no one in town.  Plus it is among the most economically friendly I made mention with Grande Dunes of holes along the Intercoastal Waterway.  NO ONE in the Myrtle Beach area can touch the Intercoastal views and holes of Tidewater Golf Club.  Legend has it that designer Ken Tomlinson commissioned a couple of designers to build his course so he took on the project himself.  And pulled it off.  Tidewater at times feels like Harbor Town in Hilton Head and a fine inland course all rolled into one.  It is beautiful There are four courses at the Barefoot Resort facility of them there are two that get my recommendation.  The first of which is The Dye Course.  Designer Pete Dye is a sadist.  Normally there's real genius here.  The variety of holes is great.  The variety of trouble you can get into is great.  The protection of this golf course is wind.  And when it's blowing (hard) this course is a tough day at the office.  However if you want to be challenged and have an afternoon everyone on the trip will be talking about a year from now Davis Love III is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame as a player.  I feel like he's well on his way to becoming of similar status as a designer.  His contribution to the Barefoot Resort collection of courses is one of my favorites in the area.  Variety is a good word to use here.  I've probably played 10 rounds on that course in the last few years and each time I feel like I get to a hole and go I remember this one.  What a great hole."  I'm not gonna say playing golf at Barefoot is cheap but research package deals to get a round at Dye and Love for sure.  Two of the best in the area "The Grandaddy" is the one that started it all.  The first resort course in the area and stylistically one of the best.  Just out of respect you must play Pine Lakes if you never have.  They have just redone their greens and bunkers and both are outstanding.  Now here are couple of drawbacks.  Fist off there's ZERO practice range if you wish to get loose prior to the round.  And two there is a TREMENDOUS amount of real estate construction going on right now that really takes away from what used to be a really nice visual golfing experience The Surf and Beach Club is located just across the street (basically) from the Atlantic Ocean in North Myrtle Beach.  It was designed by George Cobb the same designer behind Quail Hollow Club and Rolling Hills Country Club here in the Charlotte Area.  And it's unique on this list as it is a private facility.  HOWEVER and I would suggest you book the experience.  If I was going to play one course-day in Download the app to LISTEN LIVE wherever you are and connect with us like never before Viktor Hovland’s Round 1 highlights from AT&T Pebble Beach and Viktor Hovland’s performance Thursday at Pebble Beach provides sufficient proof The former FedExCup champion shot 65 one day after declaring that “I suck at (golf) right now.” Hovland made eight birdies and just a single bogey to match the lowest round of the day at Pebble Beach He will end the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am just one stroke behind Russell Henley Hovland hit 12 of 14 fairways and missed just two greens “I can still play and today was good conditions,” Hovland said “I hit a few really nice wedges and started making some putts I'm trying to obviously get my mind out of the technical aspects of it and just trying to play golf.” Viktor Hovland goes flag hunting to yield birdie at AT&T Pebble Beach Hovland went winless and had just two top-10s in 2024 extending his streak of five consecutive top-20 finishes because he was T3 at the PGA Championship and T2 in the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs Hovland, who won the 2018 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach and was low amateur (T12) in the 2019 U.S. Open here, said Wednesday that he was “making headway,” but that the process of piecing together his swing to meet his high standards has been “extremely frustrating.” They used to call it "Crosby Weather," when the PGA Tour's stop at Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula of California would be beset by high wind, rain, chilly temperatures and one year, snow. A slam-dunk for Rory: Rory McIlroy aces No. 15 at Spyglass Hill When fans tune into third-round coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Saturday (Golf Channel 3-7 p.m.) they most likely will find the elite field in the Tour's second Signature Event of the season struggling with the conditions According to the PGA Tour's on-site meteorologist temperatures in the mid-50s with wind gusting up to 20 mph greeted the first groups when they tee off shortly after noon (EST) Conditions are expected to worsen the closer it gets to the final group of leader Sepp Straka (14-under) Russell Henley (11-under) and Cam Davis (11-under) tee off at 1:35 p.m The forecast is for a 40 percent chance of rain temperatures in the high-50s and sustained winds from the south/southwest between 14-20 mph It will get a bit better after that and when the final group is scheduled to finish near the end of the CBS broadcast window the temperatures will remain in the mid-50s and the wind gusting to 22 mph there will be no repeat of Wyndham Clark's third-round 60 last year that broke the course record Welcome to the weekend and the third round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am where many of golf's best try to tackle one of the best known golf courses in the world ahead of Round 1 leader Russell Henley and Cam Davis the field will lose its amateur counterparts for the weekend as the 80 pro golfers will all shift to the Pebble Beach course for Rounds 3 and 4 Here's everything you need to know about the tournament including TV schedule and streaming information: What channel is Pebble Beach Pro-Am on today? McIlroy broke into a wide grin and high-fived his caddie and playing partners, among them his Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Åberg. The hole-in-one vaulted McIlroy from 1-under to 3-under; he went on to shoot 6-under 66, two back of first-round leader Russell Henley at the season's second Signature Event. It was McIlroy's second career ace. He made his first one in Round 1 of the 2023 Travelers Championship, on TPC River Highlands' eighth hole. A 26-time PGA TOUR winner and the only three-time winner of the FedExCup, McIlroy, 35, is making his first TOUR start after a 2024 season that saw him capture the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with Shane Lowry) and the Truist Championship. Although it was a bittersweet season marked by his heartache at the U.S. Open, McIlroy won the DP World Tour Championship to capture his sixth Race to Dubai title in November. Lowry followed his teammate with an ace of his own Thursday, carding a hole-in-one at Pebble Beach Golf Links' iconic par-3 seventh en route to an opening 66. This is the sixth hole-in-one on Spyglass Hill's 119-yard, par-3 15th hole; the most recent one was carded by Justin Rose in 2023 — who went on to eventually win the event. McIlroy will hope to do the same. 6 May 2025 1:05:16 GMT.Your computer's time: document.write(new Date().toUTCString()); Residents of New Tampa also will soon have another unique option for dessert as the third Tampa-area location of Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake is expected to open by the end of this week in the same strip plaza at 19406 Bruce B across BBD from the Pebble Creek Collection.  As long as you don’t go there (as I did when photographer Charmaine George and I visited the six-month-old Temple Terrace location at 12212 N 56th St.) expecting it to also have some kind of rolls The “Twisted Rolls” at Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake are made of dough and sugar that is rolled around a stick and then baked in an oven until hot and semi-crispy the hot dough is dipped in one of a variety of glazes and then rolled in one of nine different flavors — anything from crushed Oreo cookies to pistachio nuts and from Fruity Pebbles cereal to coconut and more.  The coated “cone” is then filled with soft-serve vanilla chocolate or a swirl of both flavors ice cream to create a one-of-a-kind dessert.  “It’s an Eastern European treat,” says Ahd who also has a Twisted Rolls food truck at 13742 N “These ‘Chimney Cakes’ are called ‘Kurtoskalacs’ in Hungary Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake also offers 16 flavors of hard-packed Hershey’s ice cream but the hard-packed isn’t served in the hot cones only in two-scoop cups (for just $4.99 on 56th St.!).  all of which also can have a variety of toppings from bananas and strawberries to M&Ms and brownies crushed pistachios or liquefied peanut butter (below right photo) Charmaine and I each sampled our own Chimney Cake while visiting the Temple Terrace location just to get a feel for what’s coming to New Tampa while I quickly filled up on a Chimney Cake with Oreos both of which have a cookie placed inside the bottom of the freshly-baked cone The heat makes the cookie melt in your mouth because clearly the Chimney Cake isn’t decadent enough without it Charmaine also sampled a mixed berry smoothie, which she said was yummy, and I indulged in a large vanilla latte, which also was spot-on.
