(KFVS) - Tornado recovery continues from the March 14-15 storms in the Heartland
Help is coming in all kinds of ways--from neighbors helping neighbors to organizations and volunteers cleaning up debris to fundraisers and collection drives
But a new kind of fundraiser has Perryville City Administrator Brent Buerck putting his locks on the line
the community cast their votes with their money to choose which (wild) beard Buerck would get
Perryville Public Works Director Jeff Layton said the proceeds will help families impacted by the tornadoes get back on their feet
“A lot of people these days are underinsured
so we really wanted some of this money to go to help citizens in our community
Even though the storm’s gone and you see stuff starting to get cleaned up
the recovery doesn’t happen for years for some families.”
The votes were tallied and the final style was decided--Buerck will sport the new Mr
Buerck’s hairstylist came in and gave him the iconic cut just before the city council meeting on Tuesday evening
He will have to rock the look for one week
“I’ve had bad haircuts for longer than a week at a time
Isn’t that heavy of a lift when I consider what other people are dealing with with the tornado and the impact they’ve had on their family,” Buerck said
“So if we could raise money to help them get through this
it was a small price to pay for my community.“
There was a 50-50 match by the Perryville Development Corporation of up to $25,000 and half of that money came from a single-donor organization
Altogether they were able to raise more than $30,000 for the tornado relief fund
