Officers also noticed "cuts" and "abrasions" on Heck's forehead and elsewhere on his body Cell phone location data ultimately led to a break and will be featured heavily in the evidence against Heck Detectives were able to track them going back to northern Delaware and the area of Carousel Park in Pike Creek It was there officers found Amalfitano's body The medical examiner said it bore signs of strangulation and ruled that the cause of death In court documents not referenced during Monday's first day of trial police investigators noted that one of Amalfitano's relatives said the two had broken up a few weeks before her death and that Amalfitano said he pushed her and was "afraid for her life." Heck was arrested a week after the killing told the jury that prosecutors will only offer "circumstantial evidence" in asking "you to jump to conclusions that (Heck) intentionally caused her death." She emphasized that there are examples of evidence not properly investigated no witnesses that saw what happened and told the jury that investigators "put blinders on" in targeting Heck Heck faces a mandatory life sentence for the killing Contact Xerxes Wilson at (302) 324-2787 or xwilson@delawareonline.com A project to restore the South Branch of the Pike River two committees and the Kenosha County Board will discuss and possibly act on the proposed $17 million project with funding for the long-awaited riparian revamp aimed at: According to a presentation at the County Board’s Wednesday committee of the whole session the Pike’s south branch flows north before joining just west of Petrifying Springs county park in Somers with the north branch that flows south from Racine The convergence of the two branches then meets the river's main branch traveling east through the park and eventually empties into Lake Michigan The branch's corridor extends from Highway S south to Highway K the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources would acquire 58 acres of land in the western part of the project area Wisconsin Wetland Conservation Trust resources would be used for wetland mitigation The property would then become part of a conservation easement for perpetuity and maintained by the DNR County officials said Friday that the project design and engineering is 60% finished but its completion depends upon County Board approval an early version of the plan called for completion in 2025 director of planning and development for the county said currently what even passes for the Pike’s south branch at highways K “Every one of us has probably driven past it and not even really realized that it’s there because it’s really been turned into a ditch,” he said alluding to past practices deploying drain tiles to remove water from farmland Environmental Protection Agency have both established that the river suffers from poor water quality and degraded habitats improving water quality in the area … as well as downstream,” he said “We're looking at increasing the native and open space for recreational purposes wet prairies and prairies and increase quantity and quality of native plant and animal communities the stream bank would move west of its current flow to curve and meander through the flood plain It currently travels in a straight stream north and east from Highway K before moving north parallel to existing railroad tracks Buehler said the proposed configuration would restore the river's natural path to more closely match its historical flow County Executive Samantha Kerkman said the restored branch would become  "an ecological gem in the heart of the city" and was pleased to see it advance with new funding Yuhas said the project “represents a transformative effort to enhance environmental sustainability restore natural habitats and improve water quality in this region” for generations to come The proposed project grew out of study recommendations from both the Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission in the 1980s and the county’s own Pike River Plan improvements for the south branch in 2013 It received a significant funding boost from the U.S when the federal agency authorized up to $10 million for the completion of 60% of the project’s design The project is also benefiting from several grants including $182,000 from the Fund for Lake Michigan $1.6 million from the DNR and $500,000 from the Brookwood Foundation is offset by its own funding commitment of $2,625,000 which includes $2.2 million in bonding authorized by the board in 2022 according to Finance Director Patricia Merrill The remaining $2.5 million would be funded through an initial resolution for bonding authority which will go before the County Board along with the project on March Development and Extension Education Committee will take up the proposed project on March 12 followed by the Finance and Administration Committee on March 13 Pending is a joint committee meeting of either committee with the Public Works and Facilities Committee The county’s local grant administration partner the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network which has secured much of the grants to offset costs has pledged to garner an additional $1,582,000 in funding which could potentially reduce the county’s share to $918,000 “The restoration of the South Branch is not just an environmental project It is a promise to the next generations that we will do better,” said Dave Giordano a few residents spoke in favor of the project which they believe could help reduce flooding on local residential properties stand in the middle and envision 4 1/2 inches of water up to your ankles a Somers resident who has lived in his home 56 years Grimes said he has never collected federal flood insurance instead opting for a generator and three sump pumps to keep his home dry He said it also will save him money against rising insurance rates That's going to have a big impact," he said under the terms of the current Army Corps grant authorization the project does not directly address flooding Supervisor Felix Garcia questioned whether the county could "look these citizens in the face" to say the project would help alleviate flooding Buehler could not say whether that would take place given the current data "I think we're always hopeful … when you Several times the patient “reported feeling depressed or anxious on a daily basis but the results “were never addressed or reported in C.W.’s progress note” for that office visit Now it’s accusing him of “fraud” and “grave misrepresentation” in using pandemic relief money Attorney David Weiss said she ordered the tests without ‘legitimate medical justification’ after brief online consultations with senior citizens Inspectors general need more authority to go after fraud in the COVID-19 relief programs the independent committee overseeing federal pandemic relief spending said Tuesday 2024) – A serious injury head-on crash occurred on October 31 at approximately 5:00 p.m The wreck took place at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and North Star Road resulting in injuries to multiple individuals involved in the collision Emergency services responded promptly to the scene where two SUVs were heavily damaged and debris was scattered across the roadway the crash involved a direct collision between the two SUVs Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud impact as the SUVs collided sending shockwaves through the nearby community Ambulances transported the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment where they were assessed for their injuries The Pike Creek Fire Department played a critical role in the response assisting in extracting the occupants from the wreckage and ensuring their safe removal from the damaged vehicles Traffic in the area was significantly affected as law enforcement worked diligently to manage the situation and direct vehicles away from the crash site with motorists facing long wait times as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene Local officials urged drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion caused by the accident This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges of road safety in Pike Creek As the community processes the impact of this collision thoughts and prayers go out to those injured and their families during this difficult time Authorities emphasize the importance of cautious driving and staying alert to prevent future tragedies so does the volume of traffic on its roads leading to an increase in accidents involving SUVs According to recent statistics from the Delaware Department of Transportation SUV-related accidents have seen a rise of approximately 15% over the past year This trend is particularly concerning given the larger size and weight of SUVs which can lead to more severe injuries in the event of a collision Pike Creek recorded over 50 reported injuries resulting from SUV accidents highlighting the urgent need for heightened road safety measures The rise in SUV accidents can be attributed to several factors including driver distraction and high-speed collisions Many of these incidents occur at intersections as more drivers opt for SUVs for their perceived safety benefits all motorists must remain vigilant and practice defensive driving techniques to mitigate the risk of serious accidents and report the accident to the authorities It’s important to keep records of all medical treatments and expenses related to your injuries A personal injury claim may be valid if you can demonstrate that another party’s negligence caused your injuries This often involves proving that the other driver failed to act reasonably under the circumstances Victims of SUV accidents may be eligible for various types of compensation Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help clarify your rights and potential compensation If you or a loved one has been involved in a serious Pike Creek car wreck, a proficient Delaware car accident attorney from Murphy & Landon is prepared to help you today With a steadfast commitment to client advocacy and a proven track record of success Murphy & Landon offers top-notch legal representation to individuals who have been hurt by a negligent driver Do not wait to call our reputable legal team at Murphy & Landon at 302-472-8112 to get started on your personal injury claim We will put in all our experience to help you collect compensation for medical bills and other losses arising from your life-changing crash Note: Our law firm utilizes secondary sources to create this post Disclaimer: None of the information in this post is intended to be legal advice or medical advice
