The fire was at a building next to the community hall
The complex has approximately 350 apartments in widely dispersed buildings

Severe weather coverage has taken another leap forward with the debut of Action 8’s second Lifesaver Radar
This new Climavision radar is located in the town of Pine Hill
It is an excellent location to help close the “radar gap” in West Alabama
where people have never received adequate radar coverage from government radars which are too far away
That can put them in danger during times that tornadoes are threatening
WAKA Action 8’s second Lifesaver Radar was installed in December 2024 in Pine Hill
The lack of coverage had been talked about for years
but there had been very little progress made in fixing the problem
We decided that something needed to be done to protect lives
made the investment in this technology with support from the Johnny Adams Law Firm
This project took almost three years to complete

— The Montana Department of Corrections has announced that Pine Hills Correctional Facility in Miles City is back to a juvenile facility
The department moved its juvenile females from the Idaho facility
Pine Hills was used to hold juveniles and adult males
however the department has moved those adults to other facilities across the state
The Department of Corrections sent out the following statement:
To meet the constantly evolving needs of its juvenile population
the Montana Department of Corrections has restored Pine Hills Correctional Facility to its former status as a juvenile facility
the department moved its juvenile female population from the Idaho facility where that population has been housed for about nine years
Pine Hills has been used to hold juvenile and adult males
The department moved the adults to other facilities throughout the state
“The DOC has seen significant changes in its juvenile population over the past few years,” said DOC Director Brian Gootkin
“Our juvenile offenders are more violent than ever
Approximately 42% of our population are affiliated with two gangs
This is incredibly challenging for our workforce because the offenders must be separated
creating another challenge with the offenders that are not gang members.”
The space made available by moving the adult population at Pine Hills will allow for more opportunity to meet those separation needs
Renovations made to Pine Hills to accommodate adult and juvenile populations several years ago allow the sight and sound separation required to keep the male and female juvenile populations separated within the facility
“By moving the adult males out of Pine Hills
we created a great opportunity to get these female juveniles back to Montana,” Director Gootkin said

local government leaders and emergency management agency officials are already expressing their thanks for Action 8’s new Lifesaver Radar in Wilcox County
This new Climavision radar system is in the town of Pine Hill, west of Camden. It joins the other Lifesaver Radar, which is near the Alabama-Mississippi state line west of Demopolis that was unveiled last summer
they close what has been known as the “radar gap” in West Alabama
where thousands of families didn’t have adequate radar coverage because government radars were too far away
This image shows the radar gap in West Alabama
Government radars are too far away to provide adequate coverage in several of our local counties
Action 8 had a lot of help in getting the Wilcox County radar installed
And everybody has come together to help us fill this gap of radar
So that we can help prevent possibly any deaths in the county and help our residents stay informed,” Wilcox County EMA Director Melissa Dove said
“I think that was a good thing to do
And very safe for all of us,” Pine Hill resident Elizabeth Bland said
“There are a lot of people that live here who are scared every time a tornado rolls through
every time there’s bad weather,” Jamie Agee
That’s the main thing,” Pine Hill Mayor Koss Green
This image shows how the two Action 8 Lifesaver Radar systems close that gap with never-before-seen radar coverage
He says he’ll never forget being inside of his house in Camden when a tree fell on it during a storm
“Hurricane Zeta struck Wilcox County
The whole house felt like it was about to be taken up any second
All of a sudden you hear this loud smashing
I just stayed in the tub and prayed and prayed and prayed,” Butts said
His story is just one reason Action 8 decided to step in
People talked for years about the need for better radar coverage in West Alabama
power — to power the radar,” Riley Pheiffer
“Backup power in the event of power failure during a weather event
we want to make sure that it’s still live and pumping data
We also need communications to get the data flowing.”
That’s where Pine Belt Communications came in
really built out our fiber network here through Wilcox
So it was actually fortuitous that we were already here and ready to go,” Anne Capps of Pine Belt Communications said
The benefit will come anytime severe weather threatens
That’s going to just help a whole lot,” Marengo County EMA Director Kevin McKinney said
His area has already seen the increased coverage with the first Lifesaver Radar that was installed last year
These radars scan lower levels of the atmosphere where tornadoes can be spotted
They are designed to work with the existing government radars
using X-Band technology and offering 10 times the resolution of other radar systems
The Climavision radar systems were built in Alabama
Even if you don’t live in West Alabama
you still get the benefit of seeing storms first as they move from west to east toward Selma
The Lifesaver Radar scans can only be seen on Action 8

Hundreds of people in Wilcox — Clarke — and Monroe counties could soon be without water in their homes
Pine Hill Mayor Koss Green says the town of Pine Hill supplies water to the CWM Water Authority — which uses the water to service its customers
Green says CWM has been buying large quantities of water from the town — while it works to bring a new water well online
He says CWM now owes the town over $81,000 dollars — and refuses to pay its bill
On September 16th — the town is shutting off the water to CWM — for non-payment
“We give them a chance about three months ago to start paying a little bit more than their bill to make basically a payment plan
And they’re refusing not to pay anything now,” Koss said
“If any of the residents pay their bills
they need to be concerned about this.”
Koss says the water will not be turned back on until the money owed to the town — is paid in full
