The woman on the receiving end of a barrage of racist insults in a California parking lot has broken her silence
The horrifying incident occurred in the community of Pinole
A viral clip showed a woman repeatedly directing a racial slur at another woman in a parking lot on Sunday morning
“It's quite unfortunate the verbiage she was using. It's unacceptable,” she told KTVU under the conditions of anonymity
“I don't understand why she was using it towards anybody in public at all
She's obviously not supposed to be using that type of vulgar language.”
the perpetrator repeatedly used the N-word and mocked the victim’s “fake a** eyelashes” while urging her to “get out of my face.” The person recording the video is a relative of the victim
Officers of the Pinole Police Department responded to reports of a fight outside the Pear Street Bistro on San Pablo Avenue
The woman, who has not been identified, hurled the racial abuse while sitting in a blue Toyota Camry with California license plates
The video has gone viral on social media in recent days
garnering more than 43 million views on one X post alone
Police confirmed to local TV station KRON4 that they contacted three people at the scene
and the incident was deemed a verbal altercation
“Due to the nature of the verbal exchange between the parties
the incident has been classified as a hate incident
The case had been shared with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office for review
The woman who used the racial slurs allegedly has a pending criminal case
charged with repeatedly stealing from a beauty store in Concord
The mother of the woman now under investigation told the news station she has been crying constantly after learning about the video
told NBC Bay Area that a bartender working on Sunday saw the woman at the bar by herself
Police arrived about 10 minutes after the woman exited the restaurant
Social media users
and local officials have sharply criticized the woman’s behavior
is not acceptable,” Mayor Sasai told the news station
adding he was “incredibly disturbed” by the exchange
reportedly helped identify the woman by posting the video on her social media
“With the tensions that's going on and racism at an all-time high right now, it was just so much racism and blatant disrespect, it was sad to see,” she said.

totaling 154 new units on the 7.7-acre site
The plan divides construction into 26 three-story buildings
subdivided into appropriate units ranging in size from 1,249 square feet to 1,845 square feet
20% of the proposed units would be considered below market rate
with 15% of the total project categorized as moderate income and 5% as low income
The remaining units will be at the market rate
2151 Appian Way Sample Stacked Flat Floorplan
The building sizes will range from four to ten units per structure
and the buildings will be modestly varied in both floor plan and outward appearance
Beige and cream stuccos will be complemented with red
providing a variable appearance with synchronized style
The medical center previously occupying the site originally closed in 2000
leaving the site open for purchase and redevelopment
the ambitious Appian Village project will require significant changes to the site
and the City of Pinole will collaborate with developers and the civil engineers from CBG to provide new infrastructure
DeNova first brought this project before the city in 2021 and received many of the tentative approvals in 2022
This week’s unanimous vote by the planning commission is another major step forward and will provide a strong recommendation when the project moves for final approval before the Pinole City Council

Punk rock band Green Day holds Punk Bunny cups
celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s breakout album 'Dookie' and the 60th anniversary of 7-Eleven’s on-the-go coffee
2024. (Gina Castro/KQED)Hundreds of fans of the punk rock band Green Day cheered as Pinole city officials honored the band members for their impact and ties to the local community with the key to the city
a commemorative plaque and mural outside a 7-Eleven store on Sunday afternoon
As eager fans wearing Green Day T-shirts waited for the band to show up
they sang along to their favorite songs and held instruments and memorabilia they hoped to get autographed
“Just to be in close proximity with them is really exciting for me,” says Jasmine Buckles
who arrived in the morning from San Ramon to wait for the event
“I just went to their concert on Friday night at Oracle Park
Buckles brought along Funko Pop figures modeled after the band members to get signed
Green Day first formed in 1986 in the town of Rodeo
Band members Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt both attended Pinole Valley High School
“I didn’t quite make it all the way through high school,” Armstrong says in a short speech
and the day after he graduated from high school
Calling the band’s return to Pinole a “full circle” moment
The small crowd in Pinole paled in comparison to the 42,000 fans who came to see the band two nights earlier in a sold-out show at Oracle Park in San Francisco
playing their albums “Dookie” and “American Idiot,” as well as their fan favorites
Free coffee samples were provided by the band’s Punk Bunny Coffee brand
Green Day recently announced a partnership with 7-Eleven to release their Anniversary Blend of coffee
celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakout album “Dookie,” as well as commemorating the convenience store’s 60th anniversary
“There absolutely is local pride in having them from Pinole
and of course coming back to visit us and having the kickoff for their coffee company right here locally,” Pinole Mayor Maureen Toms says
“The key to the city is just a symbolic gesture that we’re recognizing that these folks are important.”
Toms says representatives from Punk Bunny and Green Day reached out to city staff about plans for the plaque dedication
Green Day’s commemorative plaque was unveiled outside of the 7-Eleven store
one of the band members’ frequent hangout spots in high school
The plaque featured lyrics from the song “Jesus of Suburbia,” reading
“At the center of the earth in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven… Billie
Band members also spray-painted their signatures on a mural dedicated to the band
bassist Mike Dirnt acknowledged how much attitudes about punk had changed since he and Armstrong walked the halls of Pinole Valley High School
half of us would have gotten beat up back then for looking the way we look now
the same people who might have wanted to beat us up
and we’re understood all around the planet
… Great things can come from anywhere,” Dirnt says
“When you live here and are raised here
you feel like they’re just a part of everything that is the East Bay,” says Sarah Paine
who arrived early to the store with her 10-year-old daughter Virginia Gale waiting in anticipation
My teenage self is very happy right now.”

successful rock band to get a key to the city when they return to their hometown
It is not normal for the ceremony to be in a 7-Eleven parking lot
but that’s what Green Day did on Sunday when they returned to their native Pinole
It did not get as much attention that, as KGO reports, Green Day visited their hometown of Pinole on Sunday
the key to the city ceremony was held in a 7-Eleven parking lot
As we’ve noted, Billie Joe and Green Bay bassist Mike Dirnt both attended Pinole High School
which is right across the street from the Pinole 7-Eleven where this ceremony was held
The 7-Eleven locale is also a reference to the Green Day track “Jesus of Suburbia” from their American Idiot album
“At the center of the Earth in the parking lot/Of the 7-Eleven where I was taught/The motto was just a lie.”
“While Green Day may have traveled the world, their roots remain deeply planted here in Pinole,” Mayor Maureen Toms said at Sunday’s ceremony, according to the Richmond Standard
Though as nice as this homecoming story sounds, the whole thing was really just a coffee promotion. Green Day’s Punk Bunny Coffee is now being sold in 7-Eleven stores

(Caltrans District 4)ALAMEDA AND CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES
CA — Caltrans is upgrading the median barrier and installing safety lighting on Interstate 80 from just west of the Alameda/Contra Costa County border all the way to the Carquinez Bridge to enhance safety and ease of mobility for motorists
Work is currently taking place on I-80 in Richmond and San Pablo between the San Pablo and El Portal exits and will continue east on I-80 to the Carquinez Bridge
The demolition of the existing concrete median barrier has concluded
While residents living close to the freeway in this area can still expect some noise
Caltrans Spokesperson Janis Mara said noise levels were not expected to reach the same level as the median barrier demolition
"Every effort is being made to minimize noise and inconvenience," Mara said
"Sound monitoring equipment is present at every location where work is taking place and noise levels will be closely monitored
Caltrans thanks residents for your patience as we work to improve the freeway
visibility will be better on the freeway at night
Crews are replacing the existing concrete median barrier with a new barrier and new safety lighting that minimizes glare from headlights
Lane and ramp closures will occasionally be necessary to accommodate the work
but the freeway will not be closed completely
Caltrans will schedule the lane closures for nighttime hours to minimize the inconvenience to the traveling public
Signage and California Highway Patrol officers will be on hand to guide motorists
Traffic has been shifted temporarily so the contractor can install the new barrier and lighting
Temporary pavement delineation will shift on eastbound and westbound Route 80 traffic toward the outside shoulders
The shift is temporary; the lanes will return to their previous configuration when the work is complete
"Caltrans again thanks residents for your patience as we work to enhance safety and visibility on Interstate 80 in Alameda and Contra Costa County."
