— Roy "Tommy" Stucker navigated the floodwaters by boat to his West Point home in far southwest Louisville
who stood on the front patio holding his 5-year-old son Tommy — or "Little," as they call him
Nearby crews from the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire District deployed their boat to check on the few residents who haven't left
Mother Nature has not been kind to Stucker and his neighbors the past week
The waters — waist-high in some places — will only get higher with the Ohio River set to crest in the area Wednesday
but some residents have chosen to stay and brave whatever else happens overnight
All of them will have to contend with several more days of disruptive flooding induced by a days-long rain event that started last Wednesday
His task Wednesday afternoon was to get a new generator and haul it back to the house
also visited the street Wednesday afternoon to check on their goats
declining to take the boat ride offered up by the water crew
waded into the water as Patterson stayed back
A tree fell on the couple's shed the night of March 30 during a strong storm that spawned a tornado in Louisville
destroying much of his prized collection of records
the day after the couple celebrated Patterson's 30th birthday
they woke up to flooding around the house and found several of their chickens dead
"This has completely destroyed me mentally," Patterson said
Woke up first thing in the morning to rescue six goats
Devore left the house a few days ago to stay with family
while Patterson stayed at home to keep an eye on things
he was left cooking canned food with a candle flame and watching the water rise
"I'm just watching the water slowly eat my house
slowly watching less of a chance to be able to leave," Patterson said
He decided to leave on Tuesday to join his wife with her family
he'll go to work like normal Wednesday night with no firm idea of when he'll be able to go home
everyone around you is having a normal day," he said
As Patterson stood by the railroad tracks parallel to Dixie Beach Road
Jeremy McKinley and his wife sat tight on a raft pulled by Pleasure Ridge Park Fire District members
They got off the boat and took a seat on the train tracks
After enduring the flooding for several days
Floodwaters have crept up to knee level in their basement
and they've been moving their valuables upstairs
With the Ohio River predicted to crest at 68.2 feet at the lower portion of the McAlpine Upper Gauge on Wednesday
they plan to monitor water levels over the next few days to determine when it's safe to return home
but this is just mind-boggling," McKinley said
Stucker took a seat on a wooden swing dangling over water that had claimed his backyard as part of the Ohio River
it just ain't worth it sometimes," he said

— Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection District received a $5 million grant funding from the Kentucky General Assembly for a new facility
Those funds are going to purchase and renovate an old car dealership building on Dixie Highway
PRP Fire Chief Jason Meiman says this building checked off so many boxes
“The uniqueness about this piece of property is directly behind this piece of property is an existing firehouse
So this is going to be attached to property that we already have as well as it allowed us to be able to purchase property behind that building for future expansion,” said Meiman
This 25,000-square-feet building will house Pleasure Ridge Park Fire’s automotive service and headquarters staff
The fire district has served the community for almost 75 years
providing service to almost 100,000 people
R-Louisville, says that is why this expansion is a big deal
and we need to expand the operation of the fire district
and we don’t have adequate space to house our personnel or apparatus or emergency response equipment
And so we need to ensure that we can provide the highest levels of public safety to our residents out here,” said Bauman
“I want them to understand that we are growing with the with the times that are growing within this community and that we’re prepared
we’re also prepared and looking towards the future,” he said
Meiman says this is the first step to better protect the community
Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department is looking for a developer but is hoping to have the place up and running within a year
but there’s a clear front-runner in the race for the Sixth Region boys basketball title
Butler High School backed up its status Friday night, getting a game-high 18 points from Michael Jones to knock off visiting Pleasure Ridge Park
“It’s a different mentality when you have something to prove versus when everybody is trying to prove to you that you’re not what everybody thinks you are," Butler coach Kevin Geary said
"Tonight was a big test for us in terms of
‘Can we take that next step and be the top dog and defend our home court in a big rivalry game?’ For the most part they did a pretty good job of that.”
Jones was one of four Butler players to score in double figures
Santana Anderson (11) and Henrich Borjalo (11)
who guarded PRP's KeJuan Shephard most of the night
Shephard scored 27 points in PRP's 76-71 overtime loss to Butler on Jan
“The plan was to play my hardest and try to stop him because he went off last game and gave them a chance to win," Anderson said
I couldn’t let my foot off the gas this game.”
Butler used a 10-0 run to take a 51-39 lead midway through the fourth quarter
and Danico Trowell’s layup capped the surge with 4:47 left
PRP pulled within 51-45 with 3:52 remaining but never got closer
Jackson McCutchen scored 14 points to lead the Panthers (19-4)
“They just executed better than we did," PRP coach Larry Kihnley said
we didn’t take care of the ball like we had been
and then we stopped being able to use that
The Bears are seeking their first regional title since 2019 and have plenty of momentum entering the final week of the regular season
Anderson said the Bears have been confident since preseason practices
Butler celebrated Friday by drenching Geary with the contents of a water cooler
acknowledging the coach's first time reaching 20 victories during the regular season
“To do it in a rivalry game and an atmosphere like this
"I’m really grateful to be a part of this program and really grateful for the kids we have this year

More high school basketball: Matchups for KHSAA Sweet 16 tournaments
Pleasure Ridge Park baseball won its seventh state championship last season behind the bat of Sixth Region Player of the Year Brayden Bruner
Now a senior, Bruner is tasked to lead a team with 10 returners from last year's championship squad back to the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Baseball State Tournament.
and he went to the big leagues for 15 years
and then the other greats that I got to play with through the years
and Brayden is that type of kid," Pleasure Ridge Park coach Brad Burns said
and his motor doesn't get too high or too low
He's always put in more reps and doing more work
You want your better players to be the harder workers
The Bellarmine baseball commit hit .400 and stole 36 bases last season
He went 2 for 2 in the 2024 state championship with two RBIs
that he's not serious about what he's doing
He's not enthusiastic or whatever," Burns said
"I would just get out of his way and let him play
and so my thing would be to throw him out there and let him figure it out because he will."
the Panthers were 8-0 and had outscored their opponents 92-15
Bruner was batting .500 and had 11 stolen bases
"He's just become a guy who's always comfortable no matter the situation," Burns said
and now he's the big guy in the middle of our lineup that we count on every day."
Here’s what Bruner said during a recent conversation with The Courier Journal:
The Courier Journal: How long have you been playing baseball
Bruner: I've been playing baseball since I was 4 years old
It was something I really had a passion for
The CJ: Was there a player you grew up watching on television
Bruner: I didn't watch much baseball growing up
but I really like watching Mike Trout (now) because he's a center fielder
The CJ: Where have you seen the most growth in your game
I'll go through a slump or something like that
and I just have to keep a good head on my shoulders and just keep myself up
work on what I'm doing wrong and just try and keep the best attitude
The CJ: What are your goals for your last high school season
Bruner: Everybody just needs to play together
because we had a great team chemistry last year
and we just got to build that chemistry back
I think if we all play together and play for each other
then we'll have a good team this year again
The CJ: What made you to decide to commit to Bellarmine
It was kind of a last-minute kind of thing
and they helped me get in contact with that coach
I made that phone call and wanted to go there
and it just seemed like the best fit for me

(WAVE) - A dog was rescued after falling into an abandoned septic tank in Pleasure Ridge Park on March 13
the dog was stuck in a septic tank that was 14 feet deep with 1.5 feet of water at the bottom
The department wants to remind the public to be aware of multiple homes across Jefferson County that have had their septic tanks or wells taken out of service that may not be properly filled and covered
If you discover your property needs attention
they ask that you contact a certified plumber or septic tank service company to make sure it is taken care of
“This outcome could have been different if a person fell into the hole without anyone knowing,” PRP Fire wrote in a post on Facebook
