Coach Shane Bunn was killed in a DUI hit and run collision in February in Yuba County
was charged with murder and pled guilty last week
pled guilty on Friday to murder in Yuba County Superior Court for his actions on Feb
26 that caused the death of 34-year-old Lindhurst High School Assistant Football Coach Shane Bunn
when Anderson will be sentenced to an agreed term of 15-years-to-life
Anderson was willing to accept responsibility for his actions and spare Mr
Bunn’s family the agony and delays of a trial,” said Yuba County District Attorney Clint Curry
Shane Bunn was driving south on Feather River Blvd
when Anderson attempted at over 100mph to pass Bunn and the slow-moving vehicle simultaneously by driving between them
and then careened into the back of Bunn’s Honda CRV
Anderson swerved back to the right after hitting Bunn
before rolling into the orchard west of the roadway
Yuba County Sheriff’s deputies and Yuba-Sutter CHP Officers found Anderson hiding hours later
A blood test at Rideout taken almost six hours after the collision
revealed Anderson’s blood alcohol content was still double the limit at .16%
Yuba County District Attorney Chief Investigator Brandt Lowe and CHP Officer Jeremy Quigley conducted an outstanding investigation
They used data from Andersons’ vehicle and phone to retrace his steps
They were able to determine that Anderson had made three stops to purchase hard liquor in the hours leading up to the collision
They also uncovered Anderson’s three prior convictions for DUI in California
showing he unequivocally knew the dangers of drinking and driving
driving under the influence causing injury
in exchange for an agreement that he be sentenced to 15-years-to-life
Anderson’s maximum exposure as charged was 18-years-to-life
