PLYMOUTH MEETING — Plymouth Whitemarsh junior Michael Pereira heard his stat line for the game — 23 points
13 rebounds and 5 blocks — and smiled
“That’s what a big man should do,” said the muscular 6-foot-9
“It was definitely one of my better nights
Michael Pereira (above) had 23 points and 13 rebounds against Neshaminy
led the way Tuesday night as 5th-seed PW earned a 78-39 win over 21st-seed Neshaminy in a second-round District 1 6A playoff game.
the Colonials improved to 18-7 on the season
clinched a state playoff berth and advanced to the District 1 6A quarterfinals where they will play at 4th-seed Garnet Valley on Friday night
will play 13rd-seed Bensalem in a playback game with a trip to the state playoffs still possible if they beat the Owls and one more team in the playback rounds
Neshaminy and Bensalem met twice this season with Bensalem winning both matchups
It is safe to say that whoever Neshaminy plays the rest of the way they will not see a team with PW’s inside-outside combination of Pereira dominating the paint and the 6-foot-5 Sajid scoring from the perimeter and off the dribble
his dominant performance is the product of his hard work
he was playing on the freshman team — “I was sick for the JV tryouts,” he said — and now just two years later he is a key player on a team that is a top contender for the District 1 6A title
“He’s just a terrific kid,” PW coach Jim Donofrio said
“He’s diligent and focused and has so many great character traits
It’s scary what he can be in a year from now
They didn’t score their first basket until sophomore Buddy Denard swished a three-pointer for a 3-2 lead with 5:19 left in the first quarter
They took a 17-4 lead into the second quarter
“It started on the defensive side of the floor,” Pereira said
“I love where we’re at right now,” said Donofrio
who is in his 27th season as PW’s head coach and led them to the 2010 state championship
The Colonials extended their lead to 54-33 at the end of the third quarter and were well on their way to the District 1 6A quarterfinals
Many thought this game would be closer — the two teams met in January with PW defeating Bensalem
Pereira showed his ability around the basket during a three-minute stretch spanning the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter when he scored 10 consecutive points
a follow-up layup and a nifty reverse layup as PW’s lead grew to 62-33.
“That’s why you develop guys,” Donofrio said
“What Michael Pereira is going to be is like a crockpot
Pereira is a major reason PW is one of the main threats to win the District 1 6A title
Pereira went from the freshman team as a ninth grader to a bench player at the beginning of his sophomore year to a starter midway through his sophomore year
as both his game and his body continued to grow.
“You don’t see a lot of size like that,” Sajid said
Pereira said that his father is 6-foot-6 and his mother is 5-foot-11
and his hustle running the floor gets him some easy buckets
He also doesn’t foul -- he was whistled for only one on Tuesday night — or come out of the game
He played all 29 minutes until he went to the bench with three minutes left to play
“He ran the floor like a truck going downhill with no brakes,” Donofrio said
He said he has 4.62 GPA and plans to major in business in college
He said he has spoken to some Division I schools but has no offers as of yet
His brother Will is a 6-foot-3 senior forward who comes off the bench for the Colonials
and he is enjoying every minute of the time he and his brother are spending as teammates
“Having my brother on the team is honestly the best experience in the world,” the younger Pereira said
“He’s the reason I’ve gotten to where I am now.”
“William is the ultimate definition of team,” Donofrio added
“He is definitely his brother’s keeper
I know they’re enjoying this experience.”
Pereira was in the starting lineup last season when PW lost to eventual state runner-up Parkland in the first round of the state playoffs
the goal isn’t just to reach the state playoffs - which it has now done - but to advance once it’s there
“I tell them that they’re creating memories now,” Donofrio said
“I ask them what kind of memories do you want to create?”

input was sought from the council about replacing two of the office buildings with 310 apartments
he stressed the current issues impacting the office market and the inability to secure tenants for the existing buildings
He also highlighted the residential uses adjacent to and near the property
such as the Sussex Square Apartments and the new homes he constructed on the Driscol Tract
and how his proposal will impact the community
Paone stated that the commercial uses if the buildings were occupied or if the approved office building was constructed
the number of cars entering and exiting the property would be much greater than the traffic for 159 homes
The homes will also reduce impervious coverage and increase green space in that area of the township
Paone shared that there will be two types of homes
and the likely purchasers are empty nesters and “move up” buyers
The targeted price would be in the mid $500,000s to $600,000s
Some of the questions asked by council members focused on points of access and connectivity
Due to a timeline set by the property owner
Paone is seeking to have the council pass a rezoning amendment by the end of October 2025
Council members did not offer an opinion on Paone’s request for rezoning
The video in this article is the audio of the meeting and is cued to Paone’s presentation

owner of Plymouth Meeting Mall and Willow Grove Park in Montgomery County
and numerous other large retail properties
has sold one of their key investments in the Philadelphia area
The mall realtor has agreed to a $34 million deal to offload Exton Square Mall in Chester County
a long struggling property whose future has been murky for years
which has gone through bankruptcy twice in the past four years
said the sale will allow them to invest more attention into their existing properties
says they've long-envisioned transforming Exton Mall into a town center of sorts
“We have laid the groundwork for a dynamic redevelopment
this site is now positioned to fulfill its full potential as a modern
Abrams says they will "carefully curate" a mix of new residential
a project which they hope will create new jobs in the area while providing a significant tax return to West Whiteland Township
it’s the realization of a true town center
designed to enhance quality of life while delivering economic and social benefits to the community," Peter Abrams
"Our approach will ensure aseamless blend of living
making Exton a model for forward-thinking town center transformations."
Much of the aging infrastructure at Exton will be demolished and replaced
while other structures will be rehabilitated and repurposed
The sale comes in a changing time for malls and the retail shopping experience
as COVID closures signaled what some saw as the death knell for many brick and mortar stores
Preit itself has suffered through two bouts of bankruptcy in the last four years
the sale of Exton and the vision for a notably different town center experience is indicative of the changing ways residents are experiencing — and often blending — shopping
An exact timeline for the Exton transformation is not yet clear

CT (WFSB) - A swingers club in Plymouth was forced to close its doors following a town meeting Tuesday night
The club had been open since a cease-and-desist letter was given on March 28
The meeting was contentious and went on for hours
presented their arguments for why it should stay open
All the people here do not agree with it morally,” argued Jodi Gagne
a pastor for the Riverside Baptist Church and dozens of parishioners said that the club was being illegally operated and violated zoning laws
The club’s location was 30 feet from the church
“As I pray daily for the growth and love and protection of my own family
I have prayed and continue to pray for the owners and members of the Wicked Fun Club,” said Matt Marcella
The board said that the line in the appeal that read “consenting adults engage in adult sexual activities” is what led them to vote to shut the club down
The town has specific adult use regulations in place for businesses like adult bookstores and adult entertainment cabarets
Plymouth officials said that the club fits into the adult use category of business
and one requirement is to be 1,000 feet away from a church
People at the meeting against the club stated that its existence is not just sinful behavior
“Our church shares a parking lot and the operation happening there directly affects our congregation and families who use our building every week
We have no choice but to speak,” said assistant pastor Anthony Frazier
Steve Gagne argued that the business is just a private members-only social club and doesn’t fall into the adult category
We are not open to the public as membership is mandatory
We are not a cabaret or adult entertainment venue
We are not a brothel or commercial sex establishment,” Steve Gagne said
A club member also attended the meeting and believed that the community was being targeted for its moral beliefs
“It’s about the discomfort of people living differently
Frankly it starts to feel a little familiar
The last time we punished people for their private behavior well
it was the Salem witch trial,” said club member David Epstein
but to whose standard is it to my standard to God’s standard
If they’re not hurting anybody and it’s not out in someone’s face and in public showing everyone what it is then why should they get closed down,” said Tim Terwilliger
“I think they should let them do what they want to do
They were already in there,” said Billy McFarland
Gagne said that he does plan to file a lawsuit against the town and is already looking for a new location for the club
The building’s landlord said that he did not know what Gagne was going to use the space for and was going to start an eviction process

PLYMOUTH MEETING — Eliza Meersman admitted she was timid and tense for her first postseason experience last year
forced into playing big minutes due to injury
“Last year and last playoff season,” the Plymouth Whitemarsh sophomore said
“I was very nervous and very stressed out
All those minutes in a loss to Kennett last year
and a season as a starter now in her pocket
Meersman came up big for Plymouth Whitemarsh in the Colonials’ 47-35 win over Pennridge in the opening round of the District 1 6A tournament on Friday afternoon.
Eliza Meersman (15) was a presence in the middle with eight points and 10 rebounds
1 seed Perkiomen Valley on Tuesday night in Collegeville.
17 Pennridge was the Colonials’ first in the district playoffs since 2022
went unbeaten en route to District 1 and PIAA state championships
That includes last season’s loss to Kennett in the opening round
and two losses in the 2023 district playoffs after a 22-win season
This year’s Colonials might not have a Flanigan (Holy Cross)
Jordyn Thomas (Jefferson) or Abby Sharpe (Penn) on the roster
but they’re inspired by that group setting the bar as high as it could be set
“I remember coming to the state championship team’s games
so [I’m] always looking up to them,” Meersman said
“They come back and support us in the gym and it’s really cool to have them to look up to
Obviously we hope to follow in their path and go make a state run this year and the coming years.”
contributed eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds on Friday
coming up big in the middle on an undersized Plymouth Whitemarsh squad
Though she’s rather slight of frame and gives up a few inches to quite a few forwards she’s matched up against
Meersman was constantly coming up with the ball around the rim
there to clean up a missed shot whenever she could.
She had a couple put-backs during the third quarter
one which saw the Colonials turn a three-point deficit at halftime into a seven-point edge (32-25) going into the third after a 13-3 period.
“Teammates do a really good job of boxing out and that gives me open space,” she said
“When I was younger I was the tallest one; now [...] I’ve just learned to find the gaps in people and just go up strong and grab it.”
she’s an excellent rebounder,” PW head coach Dan Dougherty said
“She’s also a great communicator on defense too
she has good basketball IQ to her [...] and then the ability to play 32 minutes
“Kids can’t always play 32 minutes
they can’t always mentally handle it
but Eliza was a starter for our volleyball team all year as a sophomore
and she uses some of those volleyball things.”
Grace Harvey (25) scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter
freshman Grace Harvey slammed the door shut
scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter
Her bucket with 4:40 left put PW up 34-27; after Pennridge’s Madison Lapp knocked down a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession
Harvey immediately answered back with a corner triple of her own to stop any thoughts of a comeback.
She also put the finishing touches on the win with a pair of foul shots with 41 seconds remaining
putting PW up 11; one final layup capped off the scoring
more pressure builds on you — and here’s this kid playing fearless
she’s not playing tight,” Dougherty said
“We’ve seen it since she first got here
“She’s very different than I was freshman year,” Meersman said
she’s ready to go out there and have fun
and she maybe supports me more than I support her.”
Junior guard AJ Avery led Plymouth Whitemarsh with 15 points
adding four rebounds and four assists in a strong performance
Her two foul shots with 1:23 to play made it 42-34
Fellow junior McKenna Winland added six points
finished her high school career with 15 points to lead the Rams in defeat
Her last bucket in the fourth quarter gave her 1,233 career points
breaking Jana Rediger’s previous record by a point
what she did,” Rams coach Jason Rapp said
“I think sometimes the legacies take a little while to realize
when you first do achieve a record like this
I think as she finally reflects to see how hard this is to accomplish
I think people will really appreciate how she played and she played hard
She is one of the best teammates around.”
Dougherty knows he has his work cut out for him in the Colonials’ second-round opponent
The Vikings have crushed every District 1 team they’ve played this season
John Russo’s group far and away the favorite to repeat as champs in a couple weekends
There’s also some personal connections
as Perk Valley’s starting point guard
Plymouth Whitemarsh beat Perkiomen Valley 56-31 in the 2022 state quarterfinals
when Quinn Boettinger and her classmates were just freshmen
Perk Valley the experienced vets going up against a group with just one senior; Dougherty is happy that no matter what
his team will have a playback game against either No
9 Conestoga to keep its season alive.
“We’re…cautiously excited,” he said
“Because we also saw what they just did to Phoenixville [68-8 in the PAC semifinals]

Mani Sajid doesn’t like to talk about himself.
The dynamic Plymouth Meeting junior takes pride in being humble
He’ll throw down a mammoth dunk and point out the player who started the fastbreak
find an open teammate and give them credit for getting open later on.
Plymouth Whitemarsh's Mani Sajid scored 26 points to lead the Colonials to a 74-42 win over Bensalem Friday night (Photo: Matt Allibone/CoBL)
But even Sajid can’t deny what might be his best trait — right up there with his incredible length
basketball IQ and high-arcing 3-point shot.
His incredible sense of when to take over a game and destroy an opponent’s momentum.
“I just score the ball when I score the ball,” Sajid said when asked about it.
He sighed and let out a nervous laugh.
I guess you can say I do that.”
Sajid scored 26 points to lead Plymouth Whitemarsh to a 74-42 road win over Bensalem in the Suburban One League quarterfinals Friday night
But that total doesn’t give his performance justice.
The Colonials (17-6) led by just two after a back-and-forth first quarter
Bensalem (14-9) nailed four 3-pointers in the frame and didn’t look overmatched
Then the 6-foot-5 junior exploded for 16 points in the second quarter to give Plymouth Whitemarsh a 12-point advantage going into halftime
then Sajid made a smooth cut to the lane for a bucket
He threw down a dunk to extend a five-point lead to seven
he cut down the baseline and didn’t appear to have a good angle for a shot … until he backed his defender away from him to give himself just enough space for an easy bank shot.
“My teammates helped a lot with all that,” he said
“They moved the offense and the ball and got me open.”
Sajid scored just six points in the second half as the Colonials turned the game into a blowout — leading by 26 after the third quarter
Standout Bensalem guard Amir Drummond missed the second half with an injury after scoring eight points in the first two quarters.
Plymouth Whitemarsh’s 6-foot-9 junior big man Michael Pereira also had a big game with 16 points and a couple of thunderous dunks.
But Sajid and the Colonials don’t have much time to relax
They face top seed Upper Dublin (22-1) in the SOL semifinals 1 p.m
Plymouth Whitemarsh just faced the Cardinals Tuesday — and lost 73-55
The Colonials also lost to Upper Dublin 65-45 on Jan
But they’re hoping Friday’s win unlocked something that will help them not just Saturday but the rest of the postseason
Plymouth Whitemarsh finally allowed the game to flow through Sajid
with the rest of the Colonials organically making plays due to the attention given to their star.
Donofrio said he saw that chemistry start to click against Upper Dublin on Tuesday
It was the team’s second straight loss after a two-point defeat to Abington last Friday.
“Losing to Abington put me in a mood
and the kids were concerned after losing to Upper Dublin that I would be critical
“Because the kids have been fighting how to play with Mani on the floor
because they don’t understand it goes through him
They think that means we don’t believe in them
“Tuesday it started to come together
And we looked different (Friday).”
Sajid seems to have the world in the palm of his hand
He started racking up Division I offers last spring and is averaging over 23 points per game this season
everyone in the gym knows who he is.
it isn’t easy for anyone to deal with that pressure — certainly not a teenager
And it isn’t easy for other teenagers to coexist in the shadow of that spotlight
Donofrio said Sajid entered the season thinking he needed to score every possession without any help.
He’s since learned he will be more effective if he’s moving off the ball just as often as he has the ball in his hands.
“It’s much easier to be Rocky than to be Apollo Creed,” Donofrio said
“Mani was thrust into the spotlight in April
and all of a sudden he was Apollo Creed with coaches calling him like crazy
but when you’ve got something to prove and people are saying you’ve already proven it
that’s a unique psychology we’re working through.
and we have to be sophisticated because of how much Mani is known
And these kids are just juniors.”
Sajid’s humble nature makes perfect sense
He’s spent this season learning to trust his teammates while still taking over games when necessary.
How far will Sajid be able to carry the Colonials this postseason
It might depend on how fast he and his young teammates can continue to grow while accepting they still have plenty to learn.
“I’m never happy,” Donofrio said with a laugh
“There’s little things you’re looking for
You’re trying to make a team that is new to this type of run get experience
When we’re up by 15 tonight and we lunge on defense
That will get us down by 20 to Upper Dublin in three seconds
You have to play every possession with great focus and respect.”
