we received the tragic news that last night
a safety incident occurred while work on an LNG tank was being performed at elevation
We are devastated to share that three of our craft professional colleagues—Reginald Magee
No words are adequate to express how deeply the loss of three of our colleagues is felt
and coworkers in our hearts as the entire Bechtel community mourns
They have our deepest condolences and unwavering support
We also want to reaffirm the preciousness of every life on a Bechtel project

and KFDM has learned The Bernsen Law Firm has filed the first local lawsuit on behalf of the family of a worker who died
Cade Bernsen tells KFDM the firm is representing the family of 41-year-old Reginald Magee of Houston
Elizabeth Hospital following Tuesday's accident
Bernsen says Magee's wife and two children are devastated
telling us his children were looking forward to spending the summer break with their father
They victims who died are identified as: Felix Jose Lopez
They died and two men were hurt following what contractor Bechtel calls a 'tank jump form system incident at elevation' at the Port Arthur LNG site under construction on South Gulfway Drive (Highway 87)
just past the Intracoastal Canal Bridge and within Port Arthur's city limits

it appears scaffolding gave way and two employees fell to their deaths
Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett was on site shortly after it happened
He tells KFDM/Fox 4 News the three men plunged an estimated 65-85 feet when there was some type of malfunction of the scaffolding
Burnett says Lopez and Mendez died at the scene
Elizabeth Hospital where he died at about 3:30 a.m
Two other men on the scaffolding didn't fall and were treated and released from a hospital for minor injuries
Attorney Ryan Zehl of Zehl & Associates is filing a lawsuit against ConocoPhillips Company
on behalf of the Lopez and Mendez families
whom they say was also working at the site and witnessed his father's death
They're also representing Marcos Ramirez
The court is 295th Texas Judicial District Court with Judge Donna Roth overseeing the case
Law firms in Houston and Corpus Christi are filing suit on behalf of Martin Macedo
A former employee of Port Arthur LNG who now works at another plant in Orange County spoke with KFDM about the tragedy

“They got all these rules and safety measures in place on every job
We’re not guaranteed our next breath in the morning when we wake up
but especially at work trying to provide for our families

The Sheriff's Office has detectives on scene and OSHA will investigate
Holmes tells KFDM/Fox 4 News it's important to note that it's undetermined what caused the malfunction that led to the death of the three workers
and she says Bechtel has accomodated JCSO in every step of the investigation
The Sheriff's Office is still in the process of notifying family members and no names will be released until at least Wednesday

Two Louisiana men were killed Wednesday morning in a work boat explosion at the J.D
Murphree Wildlife Management Area in Port Arthur
The two men who died were a 45-year-old from Kaplan

Ryan Hall said a commercial vessel was docked in the JD Murphree Wildlife Management Area
was working on a levee project at the WMA through a partnership between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Ducks Unlimited
Three crew members were on the vessel at the time; all three were transported to the hospital
where two of them died and a third is still being treated
a Justice of the Peace came out to perform and inquest and order autopsies
We've reached out to Guillory's office to try to get more information about the incident
and we've put in a call to the Coast Guard
There was no damage to the wildlife management area
Two other workers sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the scaffolding gave way at the Texas sonstruction site on April 29
Texas - One man from Abbeville and another from Houma died Wednesday when the work boat they were on exploded in Port Arthur
WWL reported that the explosion happened around 7 a.m
but one person left the boat to get something from his truck when the explosion happened
The two Louisianians and another man were taken to a hospital
Officials did not disclose the identities of the deceased but said the captain was a 45-year-old man from Abbeville and the other was a 41-year-old man from Houma.
The Port Arthur Fire Marshal is investigating what happened
It's unclear what caused the explosion.
Three workers lost their lives and two others were injured in a tragic accident at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal under construction in Port Arthur
The incident occurred around 2 am at the Port Arthur LNG construction site located on South Gulfway Drive in Sabine Pass
The workers were on a scaffold surrounding the top portion of a concrete LNG containment tank when a part of the structure suddenly collapsed
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
the collapse caused three workers to fall several stories to the ground
Two of them were declared dead on the spot
where he later died after going into cardiac arrest
The deceased have been identified as Felipe Mendez
Magee was pulled from the site with signs of life but did not survive his injuries
Two more workers who were still on the remaining part of the scaffold were injured during the collapse
They were transported to a hospital and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening
Both were released after receiving medical attention
Images from the accident site showed one section of the circular scaffold hanging from the structure
The construction site is part of Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG terminal
a large-scale energy project that began its first phase of construction in 2023

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified and is expected to lead the investigation into the cause of the collapse
Local authorities have also opened their inquiry into the accident
A contractor spokesperson expressed deep sorrow
stating that their thoughts are with the families and coworkers of those affected by this tragic event
