It’s all about love at Amour Café & Co
“Amour means love,” says owner Laurie Kash
“And I feel like at the café we’re all about love
from the second you walk through the door.”
Lotus Biscoff cookie and strawberry toasted marshmallow
and hot and cold coffees and teas are on offer
Amour’s coffee beverages are made with New Orleans-style Creole coffee
“It leaves a very smooth taste in your mouth; it isn’t bitter,” Kash says
“You don’t need to add any sugar or syrups or anything like that.”
But just because you don’t need to add anything doesn’t mean you can’t
Some of Kash’s favorite drinks on the menu are the French Quarter Delight
the strawberry macchiato and the honey vanilla matcha
With thick cream tops or piled-high toppings like cookies or cakes
And the interiors are just as Instagrammable
Splashes of pinks and golds adorn the space
and bookshelves shelves styled with decor and popular reads
Patrons are welcome to sit on the couch and chat with friends
Kash wants everyone to have the “amour experience”—and the family is all in on the love
This isn’t Kash’s first time as a business owner
She was the owner of a hot brunch spot in Thibodaux
she had to make the decision to either rebuild or start anew
she had spent two years commuting from Prairieville to Thibodaux
She wanted to bring business closer to home
“I didn’t look at it as taking a loss,” she says
“I looked at it as me being able to take that time to rebuild and start over in the area where I lived.”
Kash works remotely as a licensed loan officer and owns her own financial firm
She had the idea to bring a locally owned coffee shop to Prairieville
“I wanted to offer somewhere for the community to come and relax and let their hair down in a peaceful but vibrant environment,” Kash says
She chose a spot that had been empty for fifteen years—and she found an espresso machine inside
Those were all the signs she needed to move forward
Reception from the neighborhood has been amazing so far
“It’s all about the love in the community,” she says
“and we appreciate all the love and support that we’ve gotten thus far.”
Amour Café & Co. is open Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. For more info, find it on Facebook

Ascension Parish Council on Aging Executive Director Darlene Schexnayder presented plans for the Prairieville Senior Wellness Center to the parish council's finance committee during the Nov. 12 meeting
She said the parish currently has senior centers in Donaldsonville and Gonzales
which has experienced high demand for services
"Our Gonzales Senior Center is packed on most days," she said
"We serve anywhere between 90 to 100 meals daily at the center
and the wellness center next door is also experiencing overcrowding
and we still are at capacity on most days."
The Council on Aging purchased property at the corner of Commerce Centre Drive and Enterprise Avenue in June 2023 with the hopes of developing the new center to alleviate the issues and expand in the fast-growing area of the parish
"We currently bring people from Prairieville to Gonzales
and transportation being what it is in Ascension
it's becoming harder and harder to get them there in a timely manner to get them to be able to participate," Schexnayder said
The budget for construction is about $3.5 million and the plans include outdoor covered areas behind the building and a possible walking trail

PRARIEVILLE– Today marked the grand opening of Prairieville High School
a milestone in the $140 million school construction bond projects approved by voters back in 2020
This funding has allowed the district to significantly expand its educational facilities
but not limited to the introduction of add-ons to East Ascension High School and Donaldsonville High School.
“This is a 65-acre campus with a series of two-story buildings
a field house overlooking the football stadium
We have a central courtyard and an impressive gymnasium,” said Superintendent Edith Walker
this isn’t the first Prairieville High School
the original Prairieville High School opened on what is now the Prairieville Middle School campus
serving African American students from grades one through 12
The original Prairieville High’s last graduating class was the class of 1966
A particularly touching moment came when Caroline Palmer
a student part of the first graduating class of the new Prairieville High School Hurricanes honored the legacy of the original Prairieville High School
Members of the last graduating class of the Prairieville High School Broncos from 1966 were present as honored guests
receiving recognition and a standing ovation
but we do so with the utmost respect and acknowledgment of the past
we pledge to carry the torch with pride and to create our own legacy that will make you proud
“We’ll work hard to build upon the history and rich traditions of Prairieville High that y’all have left behind for us,” said Randy Lemming
the first principal of the new Prairieville High School
The planning for the new high school began eight years ago
with initial funding from Ascension Public Schools
Principal Lemming concluded the ceremony with a heartfelt message: “Thank you for your hard work and for giving us the keys to this building
These keys are not just the keys to this incredible building and campus; they’re the keys to our future for our community
We look forward to building a Hurricane culture that everyone is proud of and opening the school where our students can excel academically

Prairieville High School announced its first ever homecoming court
As the newest high school in Ascension Parish
PHS opened its doors for the first time at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year
the school announced in a social media post
with a pep rally to follow at Hurricane Stadium
with the court presented and the queen crowed at halftime
with the court presented and the king crowned at 9:30 p.m
Perhaps it was not the lavish celebration some envisioned
thanks to persistent rainfall over multiple days
But Prairieville High was not about to let rain ruin a march to victory in its first varsity football game
The Class 5A Hurricanes ousted 1A Thrive Academy 33-0 to christen their Hurricane Stadium in front of a surprisingly sizable crowd of fans decked out in rain gear Friday night
All that happened seemed appropriate for a school nicknamed the Hurricanes
“And here come your fighting Hurricanes,” announcer Jimmy Lieux said in a booming baritone voice as the Prairieville players took the field for the opening kickoff
Prairieville led 26-0 by halftime and never looked back
The second half was played with running clock
Prairieville fumbled the ball away on its first scrimmage play
It was no easier for a Thrive team coached by former Donaldsonville High and Tulane player Devon Breaux
giving the ball right back to the Hurricanes
freshman Tahj Wallace scored the first touchdown and Luke Lyron added the extra point
fulfilling a goal Prairieville principal Randy Loving had long before the school opened last month
“Speechless … I really am,” Loving said as fans entered the stadium
“The journey to get here for this community took a while
“As an ex-coach I’m excited as heck for the kickoff
But to take the culture from three separate successful schools
put it all together and host our first football game tonight as a school … it’s incredible.”
like Alyxis Mayeaux’s band made the most of their debuts too
“Are you ready for a touchdown?” Mayeaux asked her charges as the Hurricanes got in position to score their first touchdown
The band played their “touchdown routine,” followed by an up-tempo
I wasn’t sure we were going to be able to do this … as in bring our instruments outside in the rain” Mayeaux
I made the judgement call and these kids are having a blast.”
the same was true for the football players
“We’ve been working since June and waiting and waiting,” junior Brody Creel said
I think it’s a great thing to make history
… A rain game is one of my favorite things ever.”
football coach/athletic director Mike Schmitt worried as much about game-day checklists as he did the game plan — all with one goal in mind
“This week has been everything all at once,” Schmitt said
“This is going to be a memory that is around here a lot longer than I’ll be here or most of us.”

Prairieville High School and its mascot — the Hurricanes — have arrived in Ascension Parish
Officials unveiled the long-awaited addition to the parish at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday
with a focus on establishing a culture in a community with distinctive school spirit and rivalries
“I tell our students of the culture that we're going to build,” Principal Randall "Randy" Loving said
the school will have over 1,300 students attend this fall
Superintendent Edith Walker said the 65-acre school has been in the works since 2016
But she brought attention to the original Prairieville School
an all-Black school that operated at the current site of Prairieville Middle School from 1951 until 1966
“That campus served as a school for African American students in grades one through 12,” she explained
“Prairieville High closed after graduating its last class in 1966.”
said the former school didn’t have a gym until around 1959
and the cafeteria was used for various school events
visiting the new Prairieville High School brought back memories for her
“It still brought me back to the time when I was at Prairieville High School

Jeff Seeger's brief billboard sign in Prairieville
owner of Blue Jay Snowballs and Griffin Lawn Care businesses hands off one of his most popular snowballs Wednesday at his business site on Old Jefferson Highway
owner of Blue Jay Snowballs and Griffin Lawn Care businesses stands next to one of his Smart cars Wednesday at his business site on Old Jefferson Highway
owner of Blue Jay Snowballs and Griffin Lawn Care businesses talks about his billboard dating experience Wednesday at his business site on Old Jefferson Highway
Frustrated with dating apps and dating in general
owner of Griffin Lawn Care and Blue Jay Snoballs
thought of a way to broaden his dating net
While setting up a billboard advertisement for his landscape business
he could chip in an extra $100 and get a billboard that declared him as Ascension Parish's most eligible bachelor
He listed a website, meetseeger.com
for those interested to get in touch with him
The website is a dating "application," which is a simple Google form questionnaire
"I was talking to the sign company putting up that billboard
and I thought this would be so funny," said Seeger
"A lot of my friends are not surprised by this
It was just a crazy idea that came to me while I was already advertising for my business."
Seeger says he got a great return on investment when a girl took him to the Endymion Ball as a result of the billboard
Once a local news channel got word of his sign
he put it up for one more week from March 30 to April 5
Seeger has been in three long-term relationships
but he says that he just hasn't found the one
He uses dating apps when he's in town and when he's traveling
How do you give the proper attention to one person when there's 500 people trying to message you on a dating app?"
He has gone on 40 dates since the billboard week
and he gives each application — 200 submissions so far — his time
It has consumed a lot of the last few weeks
says the billboard responses have kept Seeger so busy that he and his family are ready for him to find Mrs
Seeger's parents have been protective of their son during his sudden notoriety
They are concerned that the billboard hoopla may not accurately portray who he really is
you really want to put yourself out there as a desperate person?'" said Seeger
but I really am trying to be serious about this and flip the script a little bit
I live a very happy life with plenty of attention and I'm very social."
Not all of the billboard attention has been flattering however
He's had some teasing from different strangers on social media
why people have to be so mean on social media."
Being strong-willed and disciplined has contributed to Seeger's entrepreneurship
which started when he began his lawn care business at 14 years old
he added Blue Jay Snoballs on his business property
He says that nobody's ever upset about a sno-ball
and he loves seeing kids there smiling and enjoying the day
He approaches his dating life with a similar attitude and work ethic
He says that this recent influx of billboard-related dates has taught him how to date better by asking the right questions and listening

Odell still plans to offer private classes
She is optimistic 2024 will be a better year for Cake That’s relaunch with professionals returning to the workforce and having more disposable income
She hopes her proximity to Prairieville High School and local residential areas will be an advantage for her business
“There’s nowhere to go for coffee in this school district,” Odell says
“They will have to drive out of their way in order to go get food and breakfast
I don’t want them eating doughnuts for breakfast
but we also will offer fresh protein with eggs

Prairieville High's head girls basketball coach Chase Delrie
The old saying "Build it and they will come” rings true when it comes to the girls basketball program at the new Prairieville High School
are 10-4 overall in its first year of varsity action
most recently at Dutchtown for the last four years
When asked what attracted him to this challenge
“After years on the school level and 18 total years
the attraction to start this program from the ground up was simple
The PVHS community and being able to work with principal Randy Loving
I saw this an incredible opportunity and where I was in my career
The Hurricanes have everything new and everything there to be successful
Delrie has built his team and staff from scratch
playing a varsity schedule in the schools first year of existence
The first order of business was to build a staff to help with my vision," the coach said
"My staff is invested and dedicated as well as passionate about the players and the program
"The next step was to build a relationship with the players to get 1% better every day," he added
community and our student body to make this a positive experience.”
Students in grades 10 through 12 were not forced to come to the new high school
Only the incoming freshmen in the district were required
so there were so many unknowns on what the roster would look like
He mentioned some key players that have excelled so far
five assists and three steals per game," Delrie said
"Marly has done an amazing job on the floor this season
She has put up great numbers and involved her teammates
She truly is our leader on the floor and in the locker room."
He said sophomore Cailyn Sheets is an off guard that averages 12 points per game
she is on pace to make 100 threes this season
"She can shoot the ball on a consistent basis every night we play
but Marly and Cailyn have really stood out,” Delrie said
Delrie knows what his team’s strengths and weaknesses are
they are constantly looking to get better in practice
“Doing extra things to get better and be consistent," the coach said
"I tell the girls that we have to control the things we can control and that will put us in the best position for success
This has been a blessing to work with this staff and the girls.”
The future of Prairieville High's girls basketball is in good hands with Delrie and his staff
Delrie has the best of both worlds at the new school
"They buy into everything we throw at them; they are a close group on and off the court
this was a no brainer to come and build a winner here
