EAST VALLEY YOUTH VIOLENCE

PHOENIX — The first of seven suspects accused of killing Preston Lord in a group assault in 2023 was sentenced on Friday
was sentenced to a total of 17 years in prison for his involvement in Lord’s death as well as three other assault cases
Hines and the other suspects were accused of fatally beating the 16-year-old Lord at a Halloween party in October in Queen Creek
Lord died two days after the attack on Oct
However, he later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter in March of this year
He is the first and only suspect in the high-profile case to make a plea agreement
Hines was first named as a suspect in the death of Lord in March 2024
Six other suspects still face charges of first-degree murder
Hines also pleaded in three other assault cases
Two of the assaults occurred in late 2022 in Gilbert
The third was a vehicular aggravated assault in July 2023
who spoke during Hines’ sentencing hearing
“William Hines is not showing remorse,” she said
“My son’s life was irreversibly changed by Hines’ actions.”
Hines wasn’t charged in any of the cases until Lord’s death put a spotlight on the problem of youth violence in the East Valley
Charges have since been filed in multiple assault cases
including many involving a group of violent youths known as the Gilbert Goons
Hines was sentenced to 12 years in prison for Lord’s assault and 5 years for an earlier assault
“William Hines has shown us through not just one
that he is unfit for society,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a press release
“The fact that he inflicted harm on other victims did not give him pause as he continued his escalation that ended in the death of Preston Lord

AZ — One of the suspects in the Preston Lord case was sentenced to 17 years in prison Friday for multiple crimes
William Owen Hines changed his plea in March in four cases
Prosecutors recommended the maximum sentence Hines could have received under his plea agreement
The judge gave Hines five years in prison for an aggravated assault case unrelated to Lord's death
He also sentenced him to 12 years in prison for manslaughter in Lord's death
Hines will also receive credit for time served in prison

seven suspects were arrested and charged in the case
Hines was originally charged with murder and kidnapping.
and he’s the first one to do so," said Hines' attorney Rachel Golubovich
and the possibility of treatment for alcoholism
Golubovich played two calls where Hines seemed to express remorse for his actions
but he seemed like an astounding man; a kind soul senselessly taken from this world," said Hines as he apologized in court
Preston Lord's parents said they weren't displeased with the sentencing
ABC15 has extensively covered the other teen violence cases tied to Hines
but a sentencing memorandum filed by the state alleges new details about the teen's criminal history
and actions the night Preston was killed.
Prosecutors write that Hines' criminal history began in the juvenile justice system in November 2022
Hines is currently 19 years old and charged as an adult in all four of his current cases
Hines was accused of shoplifting and an aggravated assault case. The victim in that assault was Dale Jorgensen
He spoke with ABC15 in the months following Preston's death
coming forward to police around the same time
was wearing brass knuckles during the group attack
Freeman also pleaded guilty in this attack
along with several other teen violence cases.
Just 10 days later, in December 2022, prosecutors say Hines was caught on video during another assault at the Gilbert In-N-Out parking lot.
Video 11 shows Hines run up to the victim as he is already pinned against a car and then proceeds to punch the victim from behind approximately nine (9) times," the court document reads
Hines was accused of stealing a safe and jewelry from a home during a teen party
"The safe contained a large amount of cash along with important documents," wrote prosecutors.
Hines was accused of vehicular aggravated assault
the teen was intoxicated while driving in Gilbert and tried to turn left against a red turn arrow
injuring another driver who ended up with a traumatic brain injury
Court documents say testing showed Hines' alcohol concentration to be .107.
Hines was given probation in the other two cases involved
to be served after he is released from prison
Hines was one of seven suspects arrested in March of 2024. All seven were charged with murder in Preston's case. Hines ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
"Although Hines admitted to striking Preston
the defense and the State likely disagree on the full extent of Hines’ role," wrote prosecutors
there is no question that Hines chose to participate in this blitz-style attack that engulfed Preston before he could escape."
he specifically apologized to Preston's family.
"These events have horrified me since the moment I saw the news," said Hines.
Despite Hines describing his sobriety to the court during his change of plea hearing
prosecutors still express a concern throughout their filing
Court documents show they specifically claim a danger to the community
Photos allegedly taken in the hours after Preston's attack are included in the court documents
Two appear to show Hines holding a vodka bottle while behind the wheel of a car
and another holding a "semi-automatic pistol."
Prosecutors also quote jailhouse phone calls they say were made by Hines during his time in custody
The state alleges the teen may be making and consuming "jail alcohol."
Hines has not remained sober and is not yet committed to overcoming his addictions," wrote prosecutors.
As for the other suspects in Preston's death
Taylor Sherman and Jacob Meisner have settlement conferences set for the end of May
A trial date is still currently set for July

Liam Manning and Bristol City have finished sixth in the Championship(Image: EFL)Liam Manning admits he is "so proud" of his "special" group of Bristol City players after the Robins secured their spot in the Championship play-offs with a draw against Preston North End on Saturday lunchtime
A brace from Ross McCrorie ensured the Reds came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Paul Heckingbottom's side at Ashton Gate
While the point lifted the mood around BS3
it didn't have a major impact on the league table with City ultimately finishing two points clear of seventh-placed Blackburn Rovers
Emil Riis handed the away side the lead after 28 minutes when he headed home from a Robbie Brady corner and that advantage was doubled on the hour mark when Milutin Osmajic calmly slotted under Max O'Leary
Just as it looked as though the Robins would fall at the final hurdle
McCrorie scored his fourth and fifth of the season within the space of five minutes to bring a sense of hope to South Bristol
Although City's spot in the play-offs was all-but secured come the full-time whistle, the Reds had to wait on the Ashton Gate pitch for Blackburn's draw at Sheffield United to be confirmed before the celebrations could truly begin
While it was a moment Manning and his players will never forget
he was still feeling the effects well after the full-time whistle
"It was a special afternoon," explained the City boss
"We've just said to the lads in there
that football is all about memories and that at the end there was a very special memory for everybody involved
"It was an exhausting afternoon but you can't replicate that high," he continued
"It's such a difficult thing to do and I'm just proud of the lads

Post-match analysis from the Robins TV studio
taking a detailed look at Bristol City’s 2-2 draw with Preston North End
Liberal Leader Mark Carney speaks at a Liberal Party election campaign rally in Winnipeg
Preston Manning is the former leader of the Reform Party of Canada and a former leader of the Opposition
Because of the vastness of Canada’s territory
the differing interests of its various regions
the abundance of competing economic and social interests
and the weakened state of democratic instruments for reconciling conflicting interests
national unity will be a perpetual challenge for whomever we choose to form our national government
will be faced yet again with a challenge to national unity on the Quebec front
or voters in central Canada realize it or not
the greatest future threat to national unity is emerging not from Quebec
On account of the mismanagement of national affairs for the past decade by the Liberal government
and its consistent failure to address those issues of greatest concern to Western Canadians
large numbers of Westerners simply will not stand for another four years of Liberal government
The support for Western secession is therefore growing
unabated and even fuelled by Liberal promises to reverse many of their previous positions
Such promises of expediency simply don’t ring true in the West
would believe Mark Carney’s promises to reverse the Liberal positions on everything from east-west pipelines to identity politics and climate change
when standing behind him is a cabinet of 23 MPs who
were advocating for the very opposite and have done so for years
The bottom-up support for Western secession – another one of those populist movements that central Canada has never anticipated or understood – is currently centred on Alberta and Saskatchewan
But it has the potential to spread to most of B.C.
Manitoba and the adjacent territories depending on how it is organized and led
there is no Reform Party to redirect that populist energy in a “West Wants In” direction
the first by voters in central and Atlantic Canada
and the second by Western political leaders
particularly in central and Atlantic Canada
need to recognize that a vote for the Carney Liberals is a vote for Western secession – a vote for the breakup of Canada as we know it
If you couldn’t care less about the concerns or actions of Western Canada
But understand that separation of the resources-based economic engine of Western Canada from what’s left of the rest of Canada will have dire economic and social consequences for the latter
Western political leaders need to provide a mechanism for recognizing and addressing the growing support for Western secession in an orderly and democratic manner
so that its support and leadership are not surrendered to extremists or eccentrics for lack of thoughtful consideration of how best to proceed
this mechanism need not be a Western secession party after the Quebec model of the Parti or Bloc Québécois
but rather a democratic forum to first consider various alternative courses of action
consideration should be given to organizing a “Canada West Constitutional Conference” as soon as possible after the federal election
with a flexible agenda and the backing of at least one provincial government
If there is a genuinely new federal government after April 28
then the agenda of that conference should be twofold: first
to constructively address ways and means of co-operating with that government to redress the damage done to Western Canada by a decade of Liberal neglect and misrule and
to consider how best to negotiate new and better Canada-U.S
President Donald Trump to secure the support of easily frightened voters
then the agenda of the conference should be to consider ways and means of peacefully seceding
would then be identified in the history books
as the last prime minister of a united Canada

We now see a 40%-50% chance of a recession over the next year
the tariff hikes announced April 2 represent a self-inflicted economic catastrophe for the United States
we’ve reduced our real gross domestic product growth forecasts over 2025-29 by a cumulative 1.1 percentage points
with 2025 coming down by about 0.7 points and 2026 down by 0.9 points
There is some possibility of catch-up growth in 2028 and 2029
owing to the probability that tariffs are lifted and the alleviation of uncertainty
standing at perhaps 40%-50% over the next 12 months
But a recession can be purely short-run pain
they will permanently reduce US real GDP and hence real living standards for the average American
We’ve also upped our forecast for inflation based on the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index to 3.0% in 2025 (up 0.6 percentage points) and 3.2% in 2026 (up 1.3 percentage points)
Higher tariffs will push prices up significantly over the next year or so
the inflation rate should fall as the weak economy puts downward pressure on prices
The announced tariffs far exceed what we incorporated into our last published economic forecast
only the tariffs that stick around really matter
contrasting with what we saw with Canada and Mexico a month ago
we see little reason to expect a quick alleviation of these hikes
but there’s no clear path to removing the bulk of them
the average US tariff rate stands at around 25.5%
That’s the highest tariff rate in over a century for the United States
Given that the global economy is far more interconnected than a century ago
Our expectation for the average tariff rate falls by the end of 2025 to 18% and drops further in coming years
there will probably be more exemptions than escalation
and there’s always the probability that President Donald Trump will abruptly change his mind
the cumulative toll of economic misery and likely Republican Party election losses further adds to the probability that tariffs are brought down
we had seen tariff threats as largely a means to push through various geopolitical goals
The first few months of his second term seemed to conform to this; tariffs were implemented on Canada and Mexico for a few days
but quickly rescinded after he deemed concessions had been made around border security and other issues
He is determined to use tariffs to quash the US trade deficit and revive the country’s manufacturing dominance to its historical heights
he’s now surrounded by personnel who bow to this vision
we now think tariffs are here for the long haul
The impact on inflation and monetary policy
along with the impact on short-run GDP (distinct from long-run GDP) will depend on a slew of other factors
will the tariff revenue be recycled as tax cuts
This wouldn’t mitigate the deleterious impact on economic efficiency (and hence long-run GDP)
Uncertainty among businesses and consumers is reaching a fever pitch
which will weigh on spending independently of the direct impact of the tariffs
the contraction in demand could actually exceed the disruption to supply (in the short run)
making the tariff shock more recessionary than inflationary
if all the tariff revenue is used for new tax cuts
since the demand side of the economy would be better supported
tariff hikes without more tax cuts and uncertainty suppressing spending would call for more interest-rate cuts compared with the baseline
But if the tariff shock is more inflationary
the Fed could be forced to put rate cuts on hold for an extended period
Market expectations for rate cuts have jumped over the past month
as the market sees the recessionary implications outweighing higher inflation in the Fed’s calculations
The market now expects five rate cuts through the end of 2026
up from an expectation of three cuts a month ago
Our views are fairly close—we expect six cuts through the end of 2026
we expect the federal-funds rate to drop from a current target range of 4.25%-4.50% to 3.50%-3.75% by the end of 2025
There are a wide range of credible scenarios for monetary policy
A sharp recession could require the Fed to push rates back to near-zero
whereas a stagflation-type scenario (slowing growth
high and sticky inflation) could require the Fed to keep rates closer to 4% for a sustained period

William "Owen" Hines will spend 17 years in prison for his part in the "Gilbert Goons" attack that killed Preston Lord and for a drunken driving crash that left another teen with traumatic brain injuries
The 19-year-old was sentenced May 2 to 12 years in prison for manslaughter in Lord's attack at a 2023 Halloween party in Queen Creek
He got another five years for aggravated assault in the drunken driving case
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Scott McCoy said the prison terms would be consecutive and include 456 days for time served
followed by at least three years of probation
"It is my sincere hope that what we do here today is the first step for all of you on the road to healing," McCoy said at the end of a nearly three-hour hearing in a courtroom packed with Lord's family
Other victims of Goons beatings were there
who all addressed the court and asked for the maximum sentence of 21 years
Their statements were followed by a video montage of Lord
McCoy said he was forced to weigh Hines' willingness to take responsibility
his age and his history of addiction against his willingness to engage in repeated assaults and the substantial pain he caused
"I don't know that I've seen anyone more anxious to plead guilty," McCoy said
He noted Hines had many chances to correct his behavior after run-ins with the law
but still participated in Lord's beating death
McCoy at times seemed to struggle as he delivered the sentence
pausing several times as he talked through his decision
Lord used the words 'tragic' and 'senseless,'" McCoy said
"If ever there was a case that was tragic and senseless
dressed in an orange jumpsuit and flanked by his lawyers
"There isn't one day that goes by when I don’t think about that night.”
He read a written statement that was directed to his victims and their families as much as it was to the judge
the teen he hit while speeding through a red light
that he hoped God would continue to take care of him
"I pray that recovery has been swift," Hines said
"And you still will one day be able to do the things that you want to do to the fullest extent
Follow your dreams and never stop fighting."
He told the Lord family that Preston was an outstanding man; "a kind soul senselessly taken from this world."
"He didn't deserve not one of those kicks or punches," Hines said
adding it would be wrong to ask Lord's parents for forgiveness
but instead referred to his struggles with addiction that began when he was 15 and first found solace from the bottle
Hines' parents spoke on his behalf and called him remorseful and compassionate
They said they were determined to help him become a man people could be proud of
"His actions do not reflect his heart," his mother
"Owen in his soul is not the person who kicked Preston
He is the person who immediately stopped and was begging the others to stop
He is the young man who is living with his remorse and shame and pain."
Five of Preston Lord's relatives and a lawyer representing the family gave emotional testimony
describing the teen's potential as a gifted student
a classroom leader and an athlete who went out of his way to help people
"There are no words that can truly capture the pain of losing our son," Preston's stepmother
She said Hines needed to understand the magnitude of his actions
"I want you to feel the weight of the pain you have caused," Ciconte said
"I hope that every day for the rest of your life you remember his name
spoke about how proud he was of his son and how his world had been shattered
said Hines' actions undermined his words of contrition
He said Hines was only remorseful because he got caught
"His crocodile tears when he changed his plea to guilty to manslaughter and to the other attacks really mean nothing to me or to his victims and their families," Reich said
Nick Lord said he was not disappointed by the sentence but said he would never be satisfied; that no sentence would ever be long enough
"I'm not going to say that I am pleased," Nick Lord said
"We have accepted the terms" of the plea deal
Nick Lord said his family was bracing itself for the next cases and making sure the other six defendants accused in his son's beating are held accountable
"I am prepared to do whatever it takes to see this thing through," he said
He said Hines' sentence was "OK" and that he would "accept it."
He said there were more important things to do now
including ensuring the passage of Preston's Law
which would make criminal sentences tougher for people found guilty of participating in group attacks
Reich said Gilbert officials also need to be held accountable for turning a blind eye to a string of attacks by the Goons for more than a year before his grandson was killed
Hines avoids first-degree murder and kidnapping chargesHines and six others were initially charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping charges in Lord's death
Hines agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter during a settlement conference in March. He told McCoy that he was haunted by his role in the killing
He said he was in the throes of multiple addictions — drugs
alcohol and hallucinogens — when he and other Goons punched
kicked and stomped Lord and left him lying in the street
Hines also pleaded guilty in connection with two other nonfatal Goons attacks in 2022 and for hitting another car and injuring Zazick while driving under the influence in 2023
Prosecutors with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office dropped a kidnapping charge against Hines in Lord's death
They also recommended supervised probation in the two Goons beating cases in Gilbert
one at an In-N-Out Burger and the other at a house party
The plea deal does not require Hines to testify against other people accused of attacking Lord
Lawyers for the Lord family confirmed after Hines entered his guilty plea that there was no agreement requiring him to cooperate with prosecutors
McCoy sentenced him to at least three years' probation following his release from prison for the beating cases
He could be 36 years old when he gets out of prison
Lord and his friends crossed paths with Goons at a chaotic Oct
party that drew hundreds of teens from across metro Phoenix to an upscale suburban neighborhood
The two groups of teens were unknown to each other
The Goons targeted Lord's friends as they were leaving
Lord was knocked to the ground with a punch to the face — then his attackers descended on him
He died two days later from traumatic brain injuries without ever regaining consciousness
According to a Queen Creek police report
Hines told a friend on the night of the attack that he kicked Lord in the stomach
He told the friend he felt bad and questioned why the others accused of beating Lord kicked him in the head
A December 2023 investigation by The Arizona Republic tied Lord's killing to the Goons
a gang of teenagers who recorded their blitz-style attacks on teens in parks and parking garages
outside fast-food restaurants and at house parties
went unchecked by authorities for more than a year
The Republic has documented 18 attacks involving 95 people in Goons assaults since November 2022
Mesa and Pinal County began making arrests tied to the beatings in January 2024
The Queen Creek Police Department, which led the homicide investigation, began making arrests in March 2024. A Maricopa County grand jury indicted Hines along with Treston Billey
and Talyn Vigil in connection with Lord's death
The others charged in Lord's killing have all pleaded not guilty
But Meisner and Sherman have requested settlement conferences in their cases scheduled for May 29 and 30
The screen showed Meisner's father was among those watching remotely

Judge Scott McCoy sentenced 19-year-old William Owen Hines to 12 years in prison for Lord’s death
He was also sentenced to an additional five years (with credit for 456 days already served) after pleading guilty to vehicular aggravated assault in a separate case
The two sentences will be served consecutively
and no parent should ever have to endure the pain of burying their child
especially under horrific circumstances,” said Nick Lord
that he is unfit for society,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement
Previously released court documents detailed that the stipulations of the plea agreements for manslaughter and one of the aggravated assault cases came with a sentencing range of 10.5 to 21 years in prison
Prosecutors were seeking the maximum penalty against Hines
Hines took part in the deadly beating of 16-year-old Lord at a Halloween party in Queen Creek on Oct. 28, 2023. Lord died two days later at the hospital. After Hines pleaded guilty in March
he admitted to kicking Lord at least once during the attack
He said during the hearing that the events “horrified” him
speaking about the pain that has followed the death of her son
“No parent should ever have to bury their child
No family should ever have to endure this level of suffering
I want you to understand the magnitude of what you have done
I want you to feel the weight of the pain you have caused
I hope that every day for the rest of your life you remember his name
his face and the life you cut short,” said Ciconte
Hines admitted to police that he was “drunk
two or three times before he started to back off
“One day I have a happy and healthy 16-year-old son
One day I was helping Preston with homecoming
I was choosing the one he’d be buried in,” Autumn Curiel
Queen Creek police recommended charges in December 2023, and county prosecutors indicted all seven on murder and other charges in March 2024
All of the crimes were committed while Hines was under the age of 18
Hines was sentenced to three years of probation on the two other aggravated assault cases
prosecutors filed documents detailing Hines’ extensive criminal history and the cases he pleaded guilty to
The documents state that his first run-in with the law occurred on Nov
when he was caught shoplifting and sent to juvenile court
He has since completed diversion in that case
The victim asked Hines’ group to leave before they attacked him
Hines claimed he thought his punches “missed the victim,” but later pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault
Then, on Dec. 2, 2022, 10 days after that assault, documents describe Hines’ involvement in a fight at an In-N-Out in Gilbert
He was arrested and claimed he was drunk and “swung at some random guy,” prosecutors said
He also stated that people wanted to fight his friend group because they had a “reputation.”
Video showed Hines running up to the victim as he was pinned against a vehicle
He entered a guilty plea in connection with this aggravated assault case as well
Hines and three other people stole jewelry and a safe during a house party
Hines had been arrested twice as a minor and was involved in at least four crimes
Hines had dropped out of high school,” prosecutors wrote
Prosecutors went into detail about a crash Hines was involved in on July 6
Investigators say Hines was driving drunk in Gilbert when he attempted to turn left on a red light
The victim suffered a traumatic brain injury due to the collision and spent several days in the ICU
Hines initially denied drinking but then later admitted he had “five or six Twisted Teas” before he got behind the wheel
This marks the third case where Hines pleaded guilty to aggravated assault
The drunk driving crash was just three months before the beating that led to Lord’s death
Documents describe how Hines and six other suspects chased and attacked Lord and his friend group
the charge of first-degree murder was reduced to manslaughter
“There is no question that Hines chose to participate in this blitz-style attack that engulfed Preston before he could escape
Hines and his friends transformed what should have been a happy memory in Preston’s high school years into a terrible loss of life that Preston’s family
friends and the community continue to struggle with,” prosecutors wrote
Prosecutors claimed a common factor in the crimes Hines was involved in was alcohol use
showed a seemingly drunk Hines telling people
“I am buried out of my mind,” while holding a pistol
Other videos posted within the following two hours showed Hines driving drunk while holding a bottle of Tito’s Vodka
a Snapchat showed Hines chugging a bottle of Jose Cuervo while behind the wheel
Prosecutors say there is also evidence that Hines consumed and sold homemade alcohol while in jail
Hines claimed to the court that he had “been sober for over a year.” However
prosecutors say some of the jailhouse calls regarding alcohol happened after he entered his plea agreement
Hines has not remained sober and is not yet committed to overcoming his addictions,” prosecutors wrote
The state recommended that the judge sentence Hines to the maximum available term in prison
Below is an excerpt from documents filed in court this week:
Preston was not allowed to finish high school
enjoy existing friendships and build new ones
milestones and memories that Preston had to look forward to are gone.”
Six other suspects are still charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in Lord’s death and are awaiting trial
Meisner and Turner were also charged with aggravated robbery
are accused of being part of other East Valley attacks involving young people that are unrelated to Lord’s death
The bill has already cleared the state Senate and is awaiting a final vote in the House

Ross McCrorie now has five goals for Bristol City this season
Bristol City came back from two goals down to draw with Preston North End as they earned a place in the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years while the visitors secured their status in the division for next season
With Blackburn and Millwall failing to win at Sheffield United and Burnley
the point proved academic in terms of the Robins' place in the top six but did mean they drop below Coventry City to set up a semi-final against the Blades
Luton's heavy defeat at The Hawthorns meant they stayed up with points to spare
Preston had taken what appeared a commanding lead with goals either side of half-time from Emil Riis and Milutin Osmajic
both strikers giving the Robins defence a torrid afternoon throughout
But City responded impressively with Ross McCrorie meeting a Nahki Wells cross and
not long after Jason Knight struck the face of the crossbar
the Scotland international delivered a fine equaliser for his second goal
Follow Saturday's Championship reaction
With pressure on both teams it was Preston who undeniably showed greater purpose early on with a couple of miscued attempts from Robbie Brady
the midfielder slicing a volley well wide and then striking a powerful attempt over the crossbar
City tried to respond through Wells who drove a low shot wide of the near post after Scott Twine's sharp lay-off
but the visitors were proving a frustrating obstacle to the Robins attempts to pass their way through to goal
With Stuart McCall patrolling the touchline
as Paul Heckingbottom serves a two-match touchline ban
North End were compact and stayed disciplined
forcing City to continually pass along the edge of the 18-yard box
As they imposed a degree of control on the game however
Preston struck with Osmajic beating Rob Dickie in a 50/50
advancing towards the box and then playing in Kaine Kesler-Hayden to his right
The wing-back cut inside onto his left foot but his attempt was deflected wide by the recovering McCrorie
Brady dropped it straight onto the head of Riis who outmuscled Dickie and converted from close range
It very nearly got even better for the visitors as Brady found further space to cut inside and bend a fine effort around the outstretched arm of Max O'Leary but also the far post
City were looking for signs of life as news of Blackburn's goal at Sheffield United filtered through and Max Bird came close to conjuring an equaliser as he unleashed a dipping drive that looked destined for the top corner only to take the slightest of deflections
But Osmajic's physicality was a problem for the home defence all afternoon
and the Montenegrin was sent clean through just after the hour mark before sliding a finish under O'Leary
Yu Hirakawa had an attempt deflected wide but the volume intensified significantly when Wells was played in down the right and
clipped a cross for McCrorie to head in at the far post unmarked
Knight very nearly delivered a quickfire equaliser with a rising drive that beat Cornell but not the crossbar
The Ashton Gate faithful didn't have to wait long for that important second as Knight threaded a pass into McCrorie who had drifted infield and finished with confidence meaning the mayhem was now among the vast majority of the stadium
Mehmeti glanced a header wide from George Earthy's cross as the Robins chased a winner while Preston
slowing the game down and producing a result that ultimately worked for both teams
Bristol City have lost just three times at Ashton Gate this season

Bristol City head coach Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol: "I have no idea how I am feeling
"We made real hard work of it but I spoke to the lads beforehand and there's a lot made now about styles and philosophies
and we spoke about us to underpin everything with the culture we have got
"It says on the shirts 'always believe' and we have done that numerous times now
and you see it today - it's a fantastic group of lads
I couldn't be more proud of them and what they've done
"There's no expectation or pressure on us so we have got to go and be brave and enjoy it
You see today the lads give everything for the shirt."
Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Really pleased with the performance
Bristol City have had two shots on target and scored two goals
"We controlled the game without the ball and Emil [Riis] and Milli [Osmajic] were always a threat
"I was really proud of the performance
just really disappointed with the goals [conceded]
They were the only two blips on a top away performance
"It was a productive day for our strikers but that was because how hard they worked without the ball."

A 'well intentioned' thug stepped in to resolve a parenting row at a Preston bus stop - but then knocked out a man and stamped on his head
Joseph Robinson approached the person after becoming aware of an argument about a child in November last year, a court heard
told Preston Crown Court that the 33-year-old believed the man had been demanding a member of the public 'slap their child'
Robinson intervened but the row quickly escalated and he punched the man who then hit his head on a bench
Robinson then stamped on his head and neck
Witnesses fled the attack in fear and police were flagged down on Garstang Road
Robinson remained at the scene asking if he had killed him
The victim was rushed to hospital and treated in intensive care for multiple fractures to his face
called Robinson's assault 'short lived' and 'spontaneous' and said the victim's fractures did not require any invasive procedures
He added: "There is no excuse for it but he didn't carry out an assault for no reason
His intentions were initially good."
has struggled with a heroin addiction since the age of 18 and was intoxicated at the time of the attack
He pleaded guilty to Section 20 GBH without intent at an earlier hearing
The court heard that Robinson's father killed his mother when he was a child and that this disturbing crime had a profound impact on his life
But the judge in the case said Robinson's criminal past - with 47 separate offences listed - was an 'alarming record of his violence'
KC Graham Knowles said: "The defendant remained at the scene asking if he had killed him and made other remarks which are compelling proof he is a guilty man
"Obviously the victim was vulnerable when you stamped on him
"I have seen a video showing very seriously black eyes - it must have been almost impossible for him to see."

A draw at home to Preston, who averted relegation on the final day, would be sufficient providing Blackburn came up short. Liam Manning, his assistant Chris Hogg and a throng of players huddled around Harry Cornick, the striker not in the squad, whose phone carried updates from Bramall Lane, where a Blackburn goal would have changed everything.

news Blackburn could not find a winner in more than 10 minutes of stoppage time at Sheffield United
presumably relaying the message of what this all means as they bear-hugged players
A red and white haze courtesy of flares and smoke bombs billowed into the sky
The pitch emptied before Bristol City’s players were re-introduced to the field as playoff semi-finalists
Arguably the moment of the day came more than 45 minutes after full-time
the core supporters in a throbbing corner of the South Stand
who invited the pair to celebrate together and truly kickstart the party with a series of fist pumps
“I had to force him to do it … he said about doing it during the week and then he bottled it a little, so I had to give him a nudge,” said Manning, who suffered personal tragedy with the loss of his baby son Theo last October
“It’s been a tough year for me so it was a special moment to be able to do that with my family at the end

the Wurzels could scarcely have picked a better day for an hour-long set in the Somerset sunshine
“A reminder to all supporters to stay off the pitch at full-time,” came the address from the stadium announcer approaching the final whistle
The red half of the city will drink in the achievement across the bank holiday before returning here on Thursday
A win would have rendered results elsewhere redundant but Preston stunned the home side by surging into a two-goal lead
the outcome trumped the result but the Bristol City captain Jason Knight’s strike
a minute after Ross McCrorie had made it 2-1
Knight ripped a right-foot rocket against the crossbar as the hosts pushed for an equaliser
“I need him to improve his shooting because an inch lower and he would have made my life a lot easier,” Manning said
“I’m looking forward to a beer right now.”
Until McCrorie pulled a goal back in the 69th minute
everything had been going pear-shaped for the hosts
Preston had just doubled their advantage through Milutin Osmajic and so all eyes were on the scores involving Millwall and Blackburn
who richly deserved the players’ player and the player of the season prizes

Preston North End will play in the Championship next season after a dramatic final day of the season say them avoid relegation
They were 2-0 up away at Bristol City - before the home side brought it back to 2-2
the point was enough for Preston to survive
and City to make the play-offs - sparking scenes of celebration at both ends at full-time
Josh Brownhill scored twice as Burnley came from behind to beat Millwall 3-1 and hit 100 points only to miss out on the Sky Bet Championship title on goal difference
Having been the man to cancel out Mihailo Ivanovic's 11th-minute opener
Brownhill had the final say with a stoppage-time free-kick after Jaidon Anthony had put Burnley in front in the 65th minute
At that point the Clarets had thought they might nick the title before Manor Solomon's stoppage-time winner for Leeds at Plymouth added a final twist
Burnley became the first club in English football history to reach a century of points but not win their league title
finishing the season on a 33-game unbeaten run
And Blackburn fell short in their play-off bid with a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane
Yuki Ohashi gave Blackburn a second-half lead and briefly lifted them into the top six before Ahmedhodzic levelled it up nine minutes later to deny the visitors victory
Blackburn needed a win and for other results to go their way
while the Blades were already assured of third spot and made seven changes after last week's win at Stoke
seven points adrift of the top six before a 13-point haul from their previous five matches catapulted them back into contention
were one of five clubs with play-off hopes going into the final day

Preston Stout Tabbed As Big 12 Golfer of the Month May 02
Preston Ordone’s mom Katelynn Ordone shared a heartbreaking statement following the death of the 2-year-old
who’d become affectionately known on social media as the “Okay Baby.”
Katelynn Ordone is navigating the unimaginable
“I wanted to try to come on here and give y'all an update, because I have been hearing about all the love and the support that y'all have been giving,” she said in the April 30 video shared to Instagram
“and it means so much to us in a time like this.”
Katelynn went on to share that while she had been discharged from the hospital one day earlier
her husband Jaelan Ordone remained checked in
were staying in a nearby Airbnb to be able to visit with him
“I think we all are trying—none of us really understand why or how this could happen,” she continued
“But y'all support has made a big difference in a lot of this.”
I may not be able to reply to every comment
because it's really hard for me to look at it
I'm still seeing some things and hearing how much y'all love him
Katelynn admitted it was difficult to put her thoughts together for the video
“I really wanted everyone to know I truly appreciate the support during this incredibly difficult time.”
“Katelynn has multiple broken bones,” Melanie Matranga said
Jaelan had to have emergency surgery on one of his legs
Preston was removed from the vehicle and brought to the hospital
Melanie and her husband Carson Matranga also took a moment to reflect on the impact Preston had made on the world in his two years
captivating audiences on social media with his reflexive “OK” to his parents before disregarding whatever it was they’d asked him
In one such video
Katelynn asked Preston to be careful jumping into puddles—which he acknowledged with his signature “OK”—before including a montage that showed the toddler leaping and tripping haphazardly into the muddy ground
I know you guys look forward to seeing him every day,” Carson said
he probably has found it and is jumping and dancing in it
For a look back at some of Preston’s sweetest moments with his family
Katelynn Ordone and Jaelan Ordone Welcome Baby Preston
who are parents to daughter Paisley Ordone
"We are so excited to take him home," Katelynn wrote on Facebook at the time
"Thank you everyone for y'all's prayers."
The Ordone family celebrated Easter 2025 with a lot of sweets, a day at church and some time in the pool. Katelyn simply captioned the post
has loved having a little brother by her side
While reflecting on Preston's adventurous nature
Katelynn revealed that it was seemingly passed on from his big sister
"My daughter was just as feral at his age," the mom of 2 quipped on Instagram March 8
"That's why they're 5 years apart but she became a little less feral with age."
Preston Makes a Splash as "Okay Baby"
In an August 2024 TikTok video
"OK," the toddler immediately jumped into the pool
"It's the 'OK' for me every time and he STILL jumps," one user commented
Katelynn agreed that Preston hasn't quite grasped the phrase
"We're still trying to figure out what okay means to him."
Preston loved the pool, but he loved mud even more. For hours, he'd splash in muddy puddles outside their home
As Katelynn and Jaelan's loved one Carson Matranga explained in their April 27 announcement of his unexpected death
he probably has found it and is jumping and dancing in it."
Katelynn would sometimes share "Preston Interviews" on social media
quizzing him on his food and asking questions about himself
I wanna punch the Grinch 'cause he's scary."
NY — New York City Council Majority Leader Amanda Farías proudly announced today that Preston High School
a beloved all-girls Catholic high school in Throggs Neck
will remain open following the public hearing by New York State Attorney General Letitia James
This announcement follows several weeks of tireless advocacy from students
and community leaders who came together to oppose the unjust and untimely closure of Preston High School
Despite strong enrollment and academic success
the school faced the threat of being shuttered permanently
I’ve been deeply invested in this fight from day one; organizing
and working directly with stakeholders to ensure Preston had a future,” said Majority Leader Farías
including the historic agreement with the Bally’s Foundation to secure Preston’s home for the next 25 years
shows what’s possible when we lead with love
I was proud to be at the negotiating table shaping a deal that protects not just a school
“Preston is more than a school; it’s a home
and a symbol of possibility for young women
This outcome is a powerful example of what local leadership can achieve when it’s rooted in community
Senator Nathalia Fernández and I stepped up
and worked with our colleagues to deliver real results
This is what it means to lead with community at the heart of the work
We must now focus on securing Preston’s long-term independence and sustainability
“I want to thank Attorney General Letitia James for her swift and thoughtful action
Her open communication and commitment to keeping all parties at the table were instrumental in reaching this turning point and in ensuring that due process and community voices were respected throughout
“I also commend the Bally’s Foundation for their commitment to Preston and to expanding educational opportunities for young women in the Bronx
Their support has secured Preston’s home for decades to come and provided critical capital investment at a pivotal time
Their leadership has made a lasting impact.”
who graduated from Preston High School in 2007
led a coalition of elected officials calling for transparency and accountability after the Sisters of the Divine Compassion rejected an $8.5 million offer to keep the school open
including a public appeal to the Attorney General’s Office to intervene
Attorney General Letitia James held a formal public hearing earlier this month to evaluate the proposed closure and hear directly from students
following several weeks of advocacy and a formal public hearing
the Attorney General confirmed that Preston High School will remain open under the historic agreement previously secured by our coalition
The Bally’s Foundation of North America has purchased the school property from the Sisters and will lease it to Preston High School for $1 per year over the next 25 years
with options to renew in five-year intervals
securing Preston’s future while honoring the community that fought to preserve it
Acknowledging the collective effort behind this outcome
the Majority Leader expressed deep gratitude to Principal Jennifer Connolly
the Forever Preston Alumni members Crystal Donkor
and the thousands of supporters who signed petitions
She also reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that institutions uplifting young women
