How are tariffs – and the threat of higher tariffs – going to affect grocery prices in the United States
The United States produces and manufactures a lot of its food domestically
prices are going to go up," said David Ortega
a food economist and professor at Michigan State University
"They may not skyrocket for all imported products
While higher tariffs could still be coming after a 90-day-pause
plus higher duties on Chinese products already in effect are a big increase in food costs for American's budgets
director of food policy at The Consumer Federation of America
"The 10% 'default' tariffs alone represent a truly historic federal tax increase
with a highly regressive impact," Gremillion said
Tariffs imposed at the borderThe tariff only applies to the value of the product at the border
Then there are additional costs to the product
Those things are not subject to the tariff
So that doesn't mean that the price of a particular product will go up by 10% or whatever the tariff is
according to the Consumer Federation of America
Tariffs are causing uncertainty from families checking off their grocery lists to companies importing food
this can mean added difficulties in managing a food budget
this means havoc on supply chains that could lead to more food waste and more food safety risk," Gremillion said
One category that could be especially hit is seafood
It remains to be seen how that will be tariffed
especially with the trade war going on with China
"A lot of seafood is caught here and then taken to China
where the labor is much more available and is a lower price to debone
frozen and brought back to the United States," he said
tariffed coming out and then it will become uneconomical for everybody?" Swanson asked
"Consumers will feel these price hikes at the grocery store
especially for products where we rely on imports to meet year-round consumer demand,'' Ortega told USA TODAY
Shoppers' demand for fresh fruits twelve months a year is part of the reason why the United States imports many of them
"We rely on international trade and imports for agricultural products in order to meet year-round consumer demand for a lot of these items," Ortega said
The United States can't grow some of the products domestically
it’s cheaper to import food than to grow it domestically
though a small amount of coffee is grown in Hawaii
"we don't grow enough coffee domestically to be able to meet consumer demand," he said
"So those things that are facing 10% tariffs
you will see the price go up," Ortega said
He added that: "low-income households are affected the most
since they spend a higher portion of their disposable income on food."
Some retailers may still increase the price of a product
even if the product itself wasn't subject to a tariff
vice president and food insights lead for NielsenIQ
Manufacturers have something called "industry price gap management," which is the comparison of the price of their product versus their competitor
Even if you're a completely U.S.-based food product
"if all your competitors' prices are going up because they're affected by a tariff..
a food product may have been made in the United States
but the packaging or other ingredients to make the food may be imported
81% of consumers surveyed said they were somewhat familiar with the effect of tariffs on grocery prices and 73% believed the tariffs would impact the price of groceries
The survey was conducted when tariff discussion was only surrounding Canada and Mexico and before the reciprocal tariffs were announced
then paused and the hefty tariffs on China were implemented
especially as the tariff policies have changed
There is a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada
unless they are products covered under an agreement called the United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement (USMCA) and a 10% baseline tariff on all imported goods from other countries
There is a 145% tariff on goods imported from China
including those coming from Mexico and China and covered under the USMCA agreement
But then the president backed off that decision
saying the USCMCA-covered goods would not be tariffed
there was a 90-day pause on any reciprocal tariffs beyond the 10%
Some agricultural and food products are covered under the USMCA
but it is difficult to distinguish which products are currently coming in with or without tariffs because there's an extra cost and hassle for importers to verify themselves under the USMCA
And many are having to wait and see what other tariffs might happen
"I think a lot of people just have no idea what is what is tariffed and what isn't tariffed," Costagli said
The United States grows and produces a lot of food products and is a huge net surplus producer
which means "we need to take that product out to the global markets
We just produce too much of it," said Michael Swanson
Chief Agricultural Economist at Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute
We export about 15% of our poultry overseas and about 20% of our pork overseas
that would have to stay in the domestic market and could actually depress prices," he said
"So we might actually see pork and poultry prices come down as the market has to sell it in America first before they can reduce the supply on an ongoing basis," he said
Consumers can try to save money by sticking to foods that are grown
produced or manufactured in the United States – and there's a lot of them
There will still be some things that they will have to pay more for
if there is no substitution or if they're not willing to trade for a different product
champagne from the Champagne region of France or Parmesan cheese that only comes from Parma
But there are growers of parmesan cheese in Wisconsin and that product is cheaper than the Parma
Consumers may consider other substitutions like trying bourbon from Kentucky instead of scotch from Scotland
which could increase in price due to tariffs
Study: Consumers worried about tariffs are pulling back on spending
Here are some food products that could see price increases
◾Bananas: nearly all bananas consumed in the United States are imported (from countries like Guatemala
◾Coffee: Outside of Hawaii and Puerto Rico
the United States does not grow much coffee
Tariffs would hit virtually the entire supply – we import coffee from Brazil
◾Olive oil: The vast majority of olive oil consumed in the United States is imported
but that is relatively negligible when you look at the full supply
offers these tips to save on food costs with potential tariff increases:
prices for chicken breasts and thighs may go up due to Chinese retaliatory tariffs on frozen chicken feet
which threaten to cut off a $1.1 billion source of revenue for U.S
spend an estimated $50 billion on placement and promotional fees to grocery chains
all with the intention of swaying your purchasing decisions
Wary of driving away customers with higher prices
many manufacturers have taken to shrinking package contents
“Healthy” foods include more than just fresh produce
also referred to as “private-label brands,” are often produced in the same manufacturing facilities
Sometimes sales can lure you into buying an item you don't need or paying a price that is too high

President Donald Trump dismissed price increases on common items purchased by consumers in a Sunday interview with NBC News' Meet the Press
saying "that's peanuts compared to energy."
The Trump administration has had to defend its decision to apply a 145 percent tariff on Chinese products
raising concerns about the severe impact on pricing that the tariffs will cause
Chinese online marketplace Temu has halted shipments directly from China to the United States as the U.S
government eliminated the "de minimis" exception for Chinese goods
which would have exempted shipments under $800 from the tariffs
Trump underscored his defense of the tariffs
saying: "Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls
and maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally."
Trump made the comment after Meet the Press host Kristen Welker pressed him about how the cost of specific items—including tires
strollers and clothing—have increased "in the wake of your tariffs."
"That's peanuts compared to energy," the president responded
Gasoline is thousands of times more important than a stroller some place," Trump continued
adding that mortgage rates are going down "despite the fact we have a stubborn Fed."
Welker continued to ask the president on the potential impact of tariffs
referring to his quote about dolls and asking if it was an acknowledgement of the potential cost of tariffs on everyday goods
"I don't think a beautiful baby girl that's 11 years old needs to have 30 dolls," Trump said
"I think they can have three dolls or four dolls because what we were doing with China was unbelievable
We had a trade deficit of hundreds of billions of dollars with China."
Trump added that he's not saying Americans will see "empty store shelves," but rather that "they don't need to have 250 pencils
They can have five," later saying that "we don't need to feed the beast."
The tariff concerns remain even as the Trump administration received great news from the jobs market, with April's jobs report show that the U.S. added 177,000 jobs
which has fueled fears of an oncoming recession
Speaking on the matter of such contrasting elements within the same economy
I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy
He did a terrible job on everything from his auto pen
some of the things he was supposedly signing..."
but I've only just been here for a little more than three months
look at what's happened in the last short period of time."
"Didn't it have nine or 10 days in a row or 11 days where it's gone up and the tariffs have just started kicking in
and we're doing really well," Trump continued
the fake news was giving me such press on the tariffs
Welker: When does it become the trump economy? Trump: It partially is right now, and I really mean this. I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy pic.twitter.com/mjmnTWlPDh
Welker took the opportunity to also address the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
was arrested in 2019 and accused of being a member of the MS-13 gang
which the Trump administration has designated a foreign terrorist organization
Abrego Garcia and his legal team have denied he is a member of the gang
based on confidential information provided to the court
He was shielded from deportation to El Salvador because he said he would be targeted by MS-13's gangland rivals
who lived in Maryland with his wife and children
was deported to El Salvador in March after being arrested in what the Trump administration lawyers said was an "administrative error." His family denies any ties to gangs and Abrego Garcia has no criminal record in the U.S.
although his wife accused him of domestic violence and obtained a restraining order against him
He has been ordered to return to the U.S. by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis and a recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court instructed the Trump administration to "facilitate" Garcia's release and return, but the White House has resisted efforts
Trump recently said he could bring Abrego Garcia back but would not do so. He also said it "wouldn't bother" him to bring Abrego Garcia back stateside but said he ultimately is letting the Department of Justice (DOJ) determine the next steps
When Welker pressed him on his comments about the situation and the limits of his power to affect the situation
he reiterated his view that ultimately the DOJ will determine what happens
And they're not viewing the decision the way you said it
They think it's a totally different decision."
Trump added: "I have the power to ask for him to come back
if I'm instructed by the attorney general that it's legal to do so
but the decision as to whether or not he should come back will be the head of El Salvador is a very capable man."
Ahmed Baba, co-founder and president of Rantt Media, wrote on X, formerly Twitter
on Sunday: "While Trump proudly raises prices on Americans and preaches scarcity
he is grifting hundreds of millions of dollars in his crypto ventures as he directly profits off the presidency
Just an unprecedented level of corruption while he economically harms everyday Americans."
Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer told Fox Business on Friday that Trump "mentioned to the American people over and over again that the Golden Age was coming
I will tell you the Golden Age is here...This is another great jobs' report...Better than expected."
asked whether he was concerned about empty shelves
recently told Fox & Friends: "Not at present ..
and then we will see how quickly the Chinese want to de-escalate."
The impact of the U.S. tariffs on Chinese products are expected to start taking effect in around five to seven weeks after ports work through already stockpiled goods, with Port of Los Angeles Director Gene Seroka saying he expects to see "less choice and higher prices" once the tariff effects kick in

Utah State University has announced a new Net Price Calculator — a modern
mobile-friendly platform that helps students and families understand what they may pay to attend college
“The college decision is one of the most important financial decisions a student and family will ever make,” said Craig Whyte
executive director of Student Financial Support
“We wanted a tool that goes beyond compliance — one that empowers students with personalized
The new calculator, built in partnership with Meadow
replaces USU’s previous calculator and provides an intuitive
user-friendly experience that calculates net price based on a student’s unique financial and academic situation
USU’s new Net Price Calculator is designed for all prospective undergraduate and graduate students — whether they’re full-time
“We know cost can be a barrier — or at least a major concern,” said Ian Anderson
executive director of Enrollment Strategy and Innovation
“By providing students and families with accurate
we’re removing confusion and building trust
That’s what college cost transparency is all about.”
While the U.S. Department of Education requires all Title IV institutions to provide a net price calculator, USU’s new solution goes further. It aligns fully with the College Cost Transparency Initiative (CCTI)
led by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA)
and fairness in college cost communication
Utah State University was the first USHE institution to join the College Cost Transparency Initiative and this new tool further strengthens USU’s desire to provide accurate and transparent information
Meadow’s platform also provides valuable insights to USU administrators
These insights support ongoing efforts to improve access and affordability across the state
“Students are more likely to apply when they see what college actually costs — and how affordable it can be with aid,” Anderson said
“This tool helps us connect with students early
and support their journey to enrollment.”
The new Net Price Calculator is available at usu.edu/financial-support/coa.

Bitcoin corporates have plenty of dry powder (Khalid El Amraoui/Unsplash) What to know: NYDIG’s Greg Cipolaro argues that bitcoin treasury companies have significant “dry powder” in the form of equity issuance capacity that could drive further price appreciation. His analysis suggests that if this capital is deployed to purchase more bitcoin
it could add $42,000 to bitcoin's price. The emergence of pure-play firms like Twenty One highlights how market enthusiasm and structural advantages may amplify this potential impact.Bitcoin-holding public companies may be sitting on a powerful market catalyst: untapped issuance capacity that could meaningfully raise bitcoin’s (BTC) price

points to the “dry powder” in the form of share issuance potential among bitcoin treasury companies
If these companies take advantage of their elevated equity valuations to raise new funds and buy more bitcoin
it could trigger a significant upward move in the market
Cipolaro uses a back-of-the-envelope model to estimate the impact: applying a 10x “money multiplier” — a historical rule of thumb describing how capital inflows have historically influenced bitcoin’s market cap — he projects a potential $42,000 per-coin price increase
That would mark a roughly 44% jump from current levels near $96,000
This market dynamic has gained new urgency following the launch of Twenty One
a bitcoin accumulation vehicle backed by Tether
Unlike other firms that have folded bitcoin into broader business models
Twenty One exists solely to acquire and hold bitcoin
and has already been seeded with a substantial BTC position
has outperformed the S&P 500 by over 347% since the deal was announced
69 public companies hold around $69.6 billion worth of bitcoin
Cipolaro’s analysis suggests that their current stock premiums over net asset value could fund even more purchases — effectively creating a feedback loop
which drives up the value of both the bitcoin and the issuer’s shares
“The implication is clear,” Cipolaro writes
“This "dry powder" in the form of issuance capacity could have a significant upward effect on bitcoin’s price.”
Whether or not these companies pull the trigger
the growing interest from institutions and the performance of bitcoin-forward stocks signal a shift in how capital markets approach bitcoin exposure — through balance sheets rather than just ETF flows

Foster City, California-based Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD) is a biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes medicines in the areas of unmet medical need. Valued at a market cap of $129.1 billion
the company is renowned for its antiviral therapies
This healthcare giant has considerably outpaced the broader market over the past 52 weeks. Shares of GILD have rallied 58.7% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has gained 12.3%
Zooming in further, GILD’s outperformance looks pronounced when compared to the Invesco Pharmaceuticals ETF’s (PJP) 4.2% rise over the past 52 weeks and marginal downtick on a YTD basis
On Apr. 24, GILD released weaker-than-expected Q1 earnings results, prompting its share price to plunge 2.8% in the following trading session
The company’s revenue declined marginally year-over-year to $6.7 billion and fell short of the forecasted figure by 2.5%
This decline was mainly due to lower product sales
driven by reduced revenue from its COVID-19 treatment Veklury and weaker Oncology segment performance
with adjusted EPS projected to fall within the $7.70 to $8.10 range
For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect GILD’s EPS to grow 71.2% year over year to $7.91
The company’s earnings surprise history is mixed
It exceeded the consensus estimates in three of the last four quarters
Among the 28 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy” which is based on 19 “Strong Buy,” and nine “Hold” ratings
This configuration is slightly more bullish than a month ago
with 18 analysts suggesting a “Strong Buy” rating
On May 2, Salim Syed from Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (MFG) maintained a “Buy” rating on GILD with a price target of $117
which indicates a 12.8% potential upside from the current levels
The mean price target of $111.88 represents a 7.9% premium from GILD’s current price levels
while the Street-high price target of $140 suggests an upside potential of 35%

The Arlington School Board has pushed back a final budget vote to give officials time to finish crunching numbers
The vote on the budget is now scheduled to happen on Thursday, May 15 as leaders determine the effects of recent funding decisions at the state level
so we are not going to do that tonight,” Board Chair Mary Kadera said of budget adoption at a May 1 meeting
to make his final decisions on budget matters
Decisions at the national level are also affecting Arlington Public Schools
which is bracing for the impact of tariffs on everything from copier paper to construction projects
“It certainly could have an effect on us going forward
just like it will for all Americans,” said Andy Hawkins
Some school systems are starting to feel the impact of tariffs “across lots of areas,” she said
“it is a little too early to tell” what the impact will be
“We are monitoring that closely,” he said
On capital projects currently underway, such as the future Grace Hopper Center (the new Arlington Career Center)
any additional costs related to international trade battles likely would be the responsibility of the contractor
“We don’t anticipate tariffs impacting us at this time,” said Hawkins, who received his new title — business officer — in a recent central-office reorganization
He will be in charge of all APS financial matters
If the Trump administration’s tariff wars continue
they could have a major impact on the development of the school system’s next capital-improvement program
‘Honored Citizens’ celebrated: School Board members on May 1 honored four community members for exceptional
long-term service in support of local students
Maria Lucia Guarachi, Jennifer Landis-Santos, Claire Noakes and the late Dr. Stephen Mamber were recognized as “Honored Citizens” for 2025
“These individuals that we’re recognizing tonight have demonstrated a sustained and intensive commitment to our schools,” Kadera said
“strengthening the partnerships that bind our community together.”
To be selected
individuals must have provided volunteer service to the school system and students for at least 5 years and “go above and beyond what might reasonably be expected” in supporting youth in the community
Kadera said the four honorees were part of a large contingent of community members who support the school system and its students
“We deeply value the contributions of all of our volunteers” who “quietly and humbly make a difference,” she said
The fast fashion giant said it would transition to a “local fulfillment model” to circumvent the U.S.’ 145% tariff on imports from China
“The move is designed to help local merchants reach more customers and grow their businesses,” the spokesperson said
“This shift is part of Temu’s ongoing adjustments to improve service levels.”
U.S. President Donald Trump’s combined 145% tariff on imports from China would hit Temu hard because of Temu’s supply chain in the region. Temu would additionally face blowback from the proposal to end the de minimis exemption
a provision that generally exempts shipments into the U.S
worth less than $800 from additional customs review and duties
Temu and its fast fashion competitor Shein are known for their cheap prices and have benefited from this exemption
Shein said it would raise prices to account for the tariff impact
Shein and Temu’s customer notices were identical
with the exception of their respective brand names
neither company confirmed the extent of the cost increases
A Shein spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment
While Temu has lost a significant revenue stream
it’s uncertain whether this will be temporary or long term
“Temu will likely face margin pressure as these suppliers attempt to unload this excess inventory outside of the U.S.,” Balaam said
“In addition Temu has gone hard on recruiting U.S
suppliers to adopt its platform for the U.S
which brings them head to head with the likes of Amazon & Walmart.”
Shein may not feel the impacts of the closing of the de minimis loophole as strongly
since Shein’s apparel products remain competitive from a pricing standpoint in the U.S
“Shein’s more limited categories of products and perhaps better product data systems will have allowed it to continue shipping to the U.S
whereas the opposite may have been the case for Temu’s parcels which could be a huge reason why Temu decided to stop shipping Chinese imports to the U.S.,” Balaam said

IDAHO STATE - As the cost of crude oil falls to levels not seen since February of 2021
Idaho gas prices continue to inch lower this week
today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.29
The national average currently sits at $3.16 per gallon
which is about two cents higher than a week ago
but ten cents less than a month ago and nearly fifty cents less than a year ago
Idaho remains in 10th place this week for the most expensive fuel
with the highest price being paid in California ($4.78) and today’s cheapest price in Mississippi ($2.65)
“Significant drops in the cost of crude oil are keeping pump prices in check
but fuel demand is expected to surge as we approach the Memorial Day weekend,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde
“We’ll happily save what we can for as long as we can.”
The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $57 per barrel
Crude oil makes up more than half of the price of finished gasoline
and a sustained drop in crude prices could translate to additional savings at the pump this week
“We always remind people to do their homework on fuel rewards points
whether it’s for buying groceries at a particular retailer or as an incentive on a particular credit card,” Conde said
“Those discounts can make a big difference in the weekly travel budget.”
Here’s a look at Idaho gas prices as of 5/5/25:

Semler bag 2K Bitcoin as price edged toward $100K last week Michael Saylor’s Strategy slowed Bitcoin buying last week as BTC neared $100,000
while Semler Scientific ramped up its crypto investments
News COINTELEGRAPH IN YOUR SOCIAL FEEDMichael Saylor’s Strategy
one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin investors
slowed its BTC purchases last week as the cryptocurrency briefly surged above $97,000
Strategy’s latest Bitcoin purchase is one of the smallest made by the company this year, alongside a comparatively meagre 130 BTC purchase in March
The latest buy is 87% less than the previous purchase of 15,355 BTC announced last Monday
While Saylor’s Strategy cooled its Bitcoin buying spree last week
Semler Scientific, a publicly traded US healthtech firm, bought 167 Bitcoin for $16.2 million in the period from April 30 to May 2 at an average purchase price of $97,093 BTC
Announced on May 5, the purchase by Semler was up at least 50% from the previous 111 BTC purchase by the firm announced on April 25
acquired for an aggregate of $322.3 million at an average purchase price of $88,668 per BTC
Semler’s Bitcoin holdings are considerably smaller than Strategy’s
The new Bitcoin purchase by Strategy came shortly after the company announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025 on May 1
According to the update, Strategy achieved a 13.7% BTC yield, an indicator representing the percentage change of the ratio between its BTC holdings and assumed diluted shares. The yield is close to the 15% yield targeted by Strategy in 2025
Strategy’s gains on its Bitcoin investments also reached $5.8 billion
in line with its annual target of $10 billion
Saylor said that the company has doubled its capital plan to $42 billion in equity and $42 billion in fixed income to purchase more Bitcoin

Homebuyers looking for bargains may want to set their sights on the Sun Belt
cities where home prices are dropping the fastest
sellers in these markets are increasingly slashing prices to attract buyers
offering a rare opening in an otherwise tough housing market
especially during the pandemic housing boom
cities are seeing price corrections as inventory climbs and buyers pull back
This has led some analysts to warn that the housing market could be heading into a prolonged downturn
A fall in prices could help aspiring buyers
the trend may signal tougher conditions ahead
Realtor.com data shows that nine of the 10 U.S
cities with the most home price cuts are in the Sun Belt
about one-third of North Port and Tampa listings saw price drops
followed by more than 28 percent in Cape Coral and over 27.5 percent in Jacksonville
is the only city outside the Sun Belt to make the list
Each of these cities has seen a sharp rise in housing inventory compared to last year
ranging from nearly 28 percent in Palm Bay to 65 percent in Denver
Phoenix tops the list with 31 percent of home listings seeing price cuts
The city currently has nearly 19,981 properties on the market
a 33 percent increase in inventory compared to last year
and homes typically stay on the market for 52 days
North Port follows with 30 percent of listings reduced in price
and homes are averaging 70 days on the market
29 percent of listings have seen price reductions
with 28 percent of homes seeing price cuts
Homes in the area are taking longer to sell—about 81 days on average
with a median list price of $399,995 and an average of 57 days on the market
Denver reports 27 percent of listings with price reductions amid a sharp 65 percent jump in inventory
with properties spending just 36 days on the market—the fastest among the top 10 cities
Inventory rose 28 percent to 4,562 properties
Deltona also saw 27 percent of homes marked down
with a median asking price of $394,450 and an average market time of 70 days
Twenty-six percent of Austin's 11,073 listings have been reduced in price
Homes sell slightly faster than most on the list
Charleston reports 26 percent of listings with price drops
Inventory surged 42 percent to 3,542 homes; the median price is $525,000
Realtor.com senior economic research analyst Hannah Jones said: "As inventory builds up
pushing sellers to reduce their asking price to drum up some buyer attention
Buyers are in a good position to negotiate in these markets
Sellers will likely be flexible and willing to negotiate price or terms to be favorable for both parties."
formerly Twitter: "Florida's housing market is in a housing downturn
and will likely continue to drop for years due to an oversupply of housing combined with record lack of affordability."
Gerli previously warned that while house prices are rising in places such as New York
they have dropped 2.4 percent in Florida in the past year
He cited estimates from Reventure that house prices in Florida will drop a further 5 percent in the coming year
Gerli also warned that home prices in Arizona are down 6.9 percent from their peak in June 2022
and trending down fast," he said in a recent YouTube video
He added that the market correction in Arizona is "going to accelerate over the next 12 months due to a massive pileup of inventory and supply on the market that is now causing sellers to freak out."
With a market cap of $28.9 billion, Delta Air Lines, Inc. (DAL) is a major U.S
airline that provides scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo both domestically and internationally
with its airline segment generating the majority of revenues
while its refinery division supports the airline with jet fuel production and third-party agreements
Shares of the Atlanta, Georgia-based company have lagged behind the broader market over the past 52 weeks. DAL has declined 11.1% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied 10.2%
shares of Delta Air Lines are down 24.2% on a YTD basis
Focusing more closely, Delta Air Lines has underperformed the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLI) 9.7% return over the past 52 weeks
Shares of Delta Air Lines climbed 23.4% on Apr. 9 as the company reported Q1 2025 adjusted EPS of $0.46
exceeding the consensus estimate and marking a 2.2% year-over-year increase
driven by a 17% increase in cargo revenues to $208 million and a 3% year-over-year rise in passenger revenues to $11.5 billion
Delta’s adjusted operating cash flow stood at $2.4 billion
and the company reduced its planned capacity growth for the second half of 2025 to flat year-over-year to protect margins
For the fiscal year ending in December 2025, analysts expect DAL’s EPS to decline 17.1% year-over-year to $5.11
The company's earnings surprise history is mixed
It topped the consensus estimates in two of the last four quarters while missing on two other occasions
Among the 21 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Strong Buy.” That’s based on 18 “Strong Buy” ratings and three “Holds.”
This configuration is less bullish than three months ago
On Apr. 9, Morgan Stanley lowered its price target on Delta Air Lines to $88 but maintained an “Overweight” rating
DAL is trading below the mean price target of $59.05
The Street-high price target of $88 implies a potential upside of 92.9% from the current price levels

the price was 5 cents less than a month ago and 40 cents less than a year ago
Metro Detroit’s gas price average was $3.17 a gallon

Other factors that affect gasoline prices are: refining costs

according to the oil and natural gas industry trade group
West Texas Intermediate, a benchmark representing oil produced in the United States, has been trading below $60 a barrel
But some analysts have said that could be a sign of looming economic trouble
reduced tax revenues and broader economic consequences."
The energy publication added that falling oil prices also could "worsen the U.S
trade deficit — the very thing that tariffs are supposedly being used to fix," and it added
"the loudest advocates for tariffs — arguing they’ll fix our trade imbalance — are also cheering falling oil prices."
Trump largely dismissed those concerns on "Meet the Press," telling moderator Kristen Welker in an interview from his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach
that "many businesses are being helped" by the tariffs
repeatedly claiming throughout the broadcast that the prices "are down at tremendous numbers for gasoline," and are "down to $1.98 in many states right now."
More: Gas prices fall below $3 a gallon in Michigan, but analysts warn drop may not last
noting that "nowhere in this country is gas $1.98."
The average price of gas nationally on Sunday was $3.17 a gallon, according to AAA, and GasBuddy, which tracks prices at more than 150,000 stations, told CBS News in late April that it was aware of no station in the nation selling gas at $1.98 a gallon

We'll hear from Palantir on Monday afternoon
Wall Street expects the firm to put a GAAP EPS of $0.07 to the tape for its first quarter
adjusted up to $0.13 on revenue of more than $862 million
This would be just above the projected sales of $860 million at the midpoint that the firm had guided investors toward
Performance like this would be up from the year-ago comparison of $0.08 (adjusted) on year-over-year revenue growth of nearly 36%
This would also continue the acceleration of the firm's year-over-year growth in sales
sequential from 19.6% to 20.8% to 27.2% and to 30% over the prior four quarters

Army had been ranked as one of the Army's top-performing programs
Army spokesperson Brandon Pollachek was quoted as having written:
"TITAN demonstrates how the Army is leveraging modern acquisition and contracting approaches through use of Middle Tier of Acquisition (MTA)
Other Transaction Agreements (OTAs) and soldier-centered design
and is a great example of a non-traditional software company competing for and successfully becoming the prime vendor for a software centric

Army confirmed that a Palantir subsidiary had been awarded a two-year contract to begin Phase 3 of its next generation targeting program
Army’s next-generation deep-sensing capability platform
It uses Palantir's AI and machine learning capabilities to allow shooters in the field necessary support beyond simple line-of-sight targeting.
That $178.4 million award is for the development of 10 TITAN prototypes, including five advanced and five basic versions, as well as the integration of new critical technologies and then the transition to the field. Palantir beat out RTX (RTX)

This is the chart that I showed readers less than two weeks ago
I explained that what had been a falling-wedge pattern of bullish reversal had morphed into a double-bottom pattern of bullish reversal with a $98 pivot
I increased our target price from $116 to $122
On Friday morning PLTR took out that target
Why do we act when our target prices are taken out
Because we'll feel pretty foolish if a stock trades at our target
and then sells off and we did not sell any
Nothing makes me angrier than feeling foolish
I will make a small sale with the expectation that I will be able to at some point add what I sold plus maybe a little more at a lower price
This strategy has worked beautifully in this stock for years now
I will be adjusting my target price higher for Palantir Technologies for the lion's share of my position
Add: Down to 50-day SMA (currently $91.50)
Panic: Loss of 200-day SMA (currently $64.40)
Note: My new $153 target price is now the highest target price for this name on Wall Street by a wide margin
This target is a 22.4% premium to the $125 targets shares by Mark Schappel of Loop Capital
Mariana Perez Mora of Bank of America and TheStreet Pro's own Chris Versace.
Simple: Because if the stock stops going higher here
then our beautiful double-bottom breakout would morph into a much scarier looking double-top pattern of bearish reversal

The XRP price prediction landscape is currently shaped by a combination of technical signals, whale activity, and looming legal developments involving the latest Ripple SEC lawsuit news
As of Tuesday, May 6, XRP is priced at $2.18, with the altcoin navigating a narrow band between $2.13 and $2.17. Despite recent losses and subdued sentiment in the derivatives market, technical patterns and long-term forecasts paint a potentially bullish picture
According to crypto analyst EWCycles, XRP may be gearing up for a powerful third wave of an Elliott Wave formation—a move that could propel the token as high as $12 between 2025 and 2026
This forecast represents a possible 2,900% increase from recent lows

EWCycles emphasized the importance of XRP forming higher highs and higher lows within an emerging ascending channel
“The technical setup points to a long-term uptrend
especially if XRP maintains support above $2,” the analyst noted
downside pressure could push the XRP value toward $1.96
Ripple XRP news from the blockchain reveals that major players are accumulating significant amounts of the token. Over the past month, wallets holding between 10 million and 100 million XRP have amassed 440 million tokens, suggesting strong confidence among institutional holders

“Whales often accumulate in quiet markets,” said a Santiment analyst

Microsoft has announced a series of price increases for its Xbox consoles
hardware will see significant price changes based on country/region
Microsoft has also confirmed it will begin launching some first-party games at $79.99 this year
A post on the Xbox support page details the adjusted prices for consoles
These prices vary across the United States
We’ve included the US price changes in this article and recommend our international readers visit the support page to view the pricing updates for their respective countries
Additionally, Xbox announces that certain upcoming first-party games will retail at $79.99 beginning this holiday season. This will apply to physical and digital versions. Xbox also confirms that existing releases will not see a price change. These software price adjustments are the first to follow Nintendo’s $80 pricing for its upcoming Mario Kart World
As of now, there are no confirmed Xbox first-party releases for the holiday season. We’ll likely find out which games will be the first to receive this updated pricing during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8
Microsoft comments on why it’s making these changes in the post
“We understand that these changes are challenging
and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development
we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”
Xbox’s price adjustments are the latest in a series of price increases for hardware and software across the industry due to current economic conditions (caused at least partially by the United States tariffs). Earlier this month, Sony raised prices for the PlayStation 5 console family in Europe and other non-US territories
citing “a challenging economic environment
including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.”
Nintendo fans have also felt sticker shock at the Switch 2’s $449/$499 pricing. Nintendo delayed the US pre-order date for the Switch 2 in response to a round of US tariffs before announcing price increases for Switch 2 accessories

Gold prices opened the week with strong gains
dollar and investor focus on the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting drove fresh buying interest
Last week’s successful retest of the key retracement zone between $3228.38 and $3164.23 confirmed the persistence of the “buy the dip” strategy
setting the stage for a push toward the next technical pivot at $3351.08
At 10:18 GMT, XAU/USD is trading $3312.65
making gold cheaper for holders of other currencies
This decline followed weaker-than-expected U.S
which intensified bets on upcoming Fed rate cuts
said that the slowing dollar is reinforcing gold’s appeal
especially as inflation and geopolitical tensions remain in play
While the Federal Reserve is expected to keep rates unchanged at Wednesday’s meeting
traders will be closely watching the updated economic projections and speeches from Fed officials for clues on the timing and scale of potential rate cuts
with President Trump reiterating his call for the Fed to ease monetary policy
though confirming Jerome Powell will remain Fed Chair through 2026
Gold continues to benefit from its role as a non-yielding hedge during periods of inflation risk and policy uncertainty
Trump’s remarks on active trade talks with multiple countries
add another layer of support for gold’s safe-haven demand
pointing to strong central bank gold purchases
recession risk as factors likely to keep gold outperforming silver in the near term
This level may act as resistance on the first test
potentially forming a lower high if momentum fades
a sustained move above $3351.08 could trigger another leg higher
