Officers were sent to Kaiser's home and met with the neighbor who requested the welfare check. They told police that they last saw Kaiser on Thursday along with her son, Schlossin. The neighbor said they saw Schlossin exit the home on Thursday night and do a "whippit" — otherwise known as inhaling nitrous oxide — after which he asked the neighbor for a cigarette. Schlossin then eventually left the home by car. Officers walked around the exterior of the home and noticed a broken glass liquor bottle-top on the front porch next to the door. An officer looked through a window of the home and saw "red-colored stains" on a bedsheet in a bedroom, according to the complaint. More blood was discovered in the bedroom, on a window shade, a mattress and on the floor. Police then observed "a leg sticking out of the end of the pile of blankets on the floor" and a sergeant called for an ambulance. After police gained entry to the home, they found a naked woman on the floor, noting she was "gray and purple in color and stiff to the touch," according to the complaint. The woman — identified as Kaiser — also had suffered trauma to her head and face. Authorities found a broken lamp on Kaiser's body, and she appeared to have suffered injuries consistent with being struck by something. Schlossin's wallet and ID were found in a pair of jeans laid on top of Kaiser. A detective spoke with a different neighbor who said she heard commotion coming from Kaiser's house on Thursday around midnight. She said she heard a woman "screaming followed by a male's voice continuing to yell," according to the Scott County complaint. She added that it sounded like the walls were being pounded on and the house was being trashed. The neighbor said the noise stopped around 1 a.m., adding that it "sounded like someone was being murdered." When asked about Schlossin, the neighbor said she doesn't know him well but said "he isn't friendly, and his body language is off." A day after Kaiser was killed, a Dakota County complaint alleges that Schlossin opened a sliding door to a home in Burnsville, pinned a woman against a refrigerator and groped her. Schlossin was hit with a bag of frozen meat by the victim, who also punched Schlossin in the face. He then fled the residence, according to the charges. A 911 caller soon after stated that she saw a man with a bloody face and stumbling around who approached her and asked for a ride. Police were able to catch up to the man and arrest him. Schlossin is scheduled to make his first appearance in court for the Dakota County case on May 8. A court date for the murder charge has not yet been scheduled, according to court records. By Tommy Wiita is a Minneapolis-based news lifestyle and sports reporter for Bring Me The News is charged with a 37-year-old man's murder was found dead in her Hopkins apartment this summer Police found the body in her Prior Lake house on Sunday. A 36-year-old man killed his mother in her Prior Lake home one day last week, then broke into a home in a nearby suburb the next day and sexually assaulted a woman he did not know, according to charges filed Monday. Aaron Matthew Schlossin was charged Monday in Scott County District Court with second-degree murder in connection with the killing Thursday of 67-year-old Diana L. Kaiser at her house in the 4500 block of Colorado Street SE., where the son also lives. In Dakota County District Court, Schlossin was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary stemming from his assault Friday of a woman in Burnsville. Schlossin was booked into the Dakota County jail Friday night and is scheduled to appear in court in Hastings on May 8. A message was left with his attorney seeking a response to the allegations. Court records in Minnesota show petty misdemeanor convictions for drug possession and traffic violations but no serious crimes. Police were sent to Kaiser’s home Sunday on a welfare check requested by a neighbor who said he had not seen her since Thursday, the same day he saw Schlossin come out of the home appearing high after doing a “whippit,” a term for inhaling nitrous oxide. Schlossin soon drove away. Officers walked around the home’s exterior, looked through a window and saw blood in several locations in a bedroom. They also saw a human leg sticking out from a pile of blankets on the floor. Police went into the bedroom and found Kaiser next to the bed beneath the blankets; she appeared to have been dead for a number of days. They also saw “significant trauma to her head and face area,” the Scott County complaint read. A police detective saw a broken lamp on Kaiser’s body and an injury consistent with her being struck by the item. Also on her body were bloodied jeans, with Schlossin’s wallet and identification in a pocket. A neighbor told police that she heard a commotion coming from Kaiser’s home Thursday around midnight that included a male yelling and a female screaming. The neighbor said she knew Kaiser’s son lived at the home. The neighbor said that what she heard “‘sounded like someone was being murdered,’” the complaint noted. One day after Kaiser’s killing, Schlossin opened the sliding door of a home in Burnsville, pinned a woman against the refrigerator and groped her, according to the charges. As Schlossin tried to reach beneath her clothing, the woman hit the stranger with a bag of frozen meat and punched him in the face. Schlossin fled the home. Moments later, a 911 caller said she saw a man with a bloodied face who was stumbling. She said the man approached her, asked for a ride and said he couldn’t recall how he had been injured. Officers caught up to the man, identified him as Schlossin and arrested him. Paul Walsh is a general assignment reporter at the Minnesota Star Tribune. Before Martin Lawrence took the stage Friday, the raucous crowd at Mystic Lake Casino Friday was treated to 10 minutes of classic moments from the comic’s days on “Def Comedy Jam.” During his run as the show’s host in the 1990s, he exuded so much physical energy, you’d swear stand-up could qualify as an Olympic sport. The footage was a mistake. When Lawrence, 60, finally appeared in the flesh, he looked like he could be the grandfather of the guy in those clips, way too old to be sporting a lime-green outfit made of rubber. He paced across the stage so gingerly, it seemed at times that he might trip over his own shoes. His delivery was slightly slurred, just as it was when he reunited with his “Martin” cast during the 2024 Emmy Awards. During his one-hour set, he wiped his brow with a black handkerchief a dozen times. He guzzled so much water, it was a wonder he didn’t take a bathroom break. Lawrence dismissed rumors that he had suffered a stroke. But he acknowledged that he’s no longer a young man. “People say they want the old Martin,” he said, after telling a story about waking up with a swollen knee. “Hey, I want the old Martin.” But Lawrence still knows how to deliver laughs. Like an aging actor, he’s learned how to produce more with less. Instead of running around like a kid with ADHD, he relied on subtle gestures and long pauses, devices you may not have expected from the guy who played over-caffeinated parts in “Big Momma’s House” and “Bad Boys.” When he simulated dance moves, he barely moved his feet, but his fans responded as if he had just nailed the Moonwalk. His trademark — widening his eyes in disbelief — has rarely been so effective. His speech and energy got better as the night went on, especially when he got away from politics and started chatting about himself. Lawrence may be taking a more mature approach to his comedy during this latest tour, which is winding down after nine months, but he’s happy to relive his youth. He shared stories about his meteoric rise 35 years ago, how he transitioned from boxing rings to comedy clubs and snagged a breakthrough role in the otherwise forgettable sitcom, “What’s Happening Now!!” He even resurrected characters from “Martin,” one of the most popular shows in Fox TV history, with the audience echoing their catchphrases. But this wasn’t just a trip down memory lane. Lawrence still showed plenty of bite. The last 15 minutes of his act had him acting out sexual acts in graphic details. It was a bit odd watching the father of three daughters, all over the age of 22, behave like a horny teenager. But for that moment, he was still the guy in those “Def Comedy Jam” clips. As he has throughout this tour, Lawrence brought along some high-powered openers. For the Twin Cities stop, there was Loni Love, who won an Emmy for co-hosting the syndicated talk show, “The Real,” and Benji Brown, who also opened for Lawrence in 2018. Brown’s ability to conjure up a wide range of horndog characters was a clear sign that he has studied his boss. It’s a reminder that Lawrence will influence the next generation of comics long after he’s forced to do stand-up from a rocking chair. remarkably pristine in his first Twin Cities concert since 2014. Before the Beatles wanted to hold somebody’s hand, before Al Green urged you to stay together, before Marvin Gaye implored you to get it on, Johnny Mathis had young couples making out to “Wonderful! Wonderful!,” “It’s Not for Me to Say” and other late 1950’s hits. Nearly 70 years after his heyday, Mathis was back in town Saturday night at Mystic Lake Casino showroom in Prior Lake with that unmistakable voice, those amorous songs and the most beautifully romantic concert in a theater in recent memory. Although he mentioned that he hadn’t sung in a while, you could have closed your eyes and imagined it was 1960-something. Mathis’ voice was remarkably pristine, a little richer with less quivering, fewer low notes and startling power. He often sang with the microphone away from his mouth — even down to his waist a couple of times — and his voice was strong, clear and ideally emotive. The repertoire was mostly familiar and appealingly diverse with a few movie themes and show tunes, a Henry Mancini medley, a trio of Brazilian selections, a much-covered Bee Gees number and, of course, the pre-rock ‘n’ roll hits that made Mathis famous. There was a swooning, romantic sophistication to his signature songs. His poetic talking intro set for the scene for 1957’s “It’s Not for Me to Say,” which segued into that year’s smash “Chances Are” and then 1962’s “Gina,” which he animated with his eyebrows and a gleam in his eyes. He was greeted with big cheers and whistles. While that hits medley was a winner, the celebrated San Francisco singer in the white dinner jacket and gray pants may have topped that threesome with his Mancini medley that featured an up-tempo Latin treatment of “Moment to Moment” and peaked on the finale, a goose-bump-inducing “Moon River,” which earned a mid-show standing ovation from about 1,500 concertgoers. The other change of pace was having veteran comedian Gary Mule Deer perform a 20-minute set in the middle of the show. At 85, he entertained the white-haired crowd with his musical parodies and ready-for-Branson jokes, such as a president should be limited to two terms — one in office, one in prison. After Mule Deer’s well-received set, Mathis returned in a black tuxedo with a red boutonniere, lost his focus briefly during “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” from the 1953 musical “Kismet” but quickly recovered to seduce with the delicate “Secret Love,” the Doris Day number from the ‘53 film “Calamity Jane.” “Wonderful! Wonderful!” his debut hit from 1956, lived up to its title, as Mathis crooned the final lyrics “Oh, so wonderful, my love” and then, in a spoken word coda, went “uh huh” for a perfectly tender punctuation. Other highlights of the second set were the swirling, tension-filled “99 Miles from L.A.,” a reading of the 1975 Albert Hammond hit, as well as Mathis’ ’57 classic “The Twelfth of Never,” which had just a hint of quiver. There was also the encore of the ‘50s rock standard “Let the Good Times Roll,” which the crooner belted like the full-voiced rocker he never was. Mathis, who hadn’t performed in the Twin Cities since 2014, mentioned he had a gimpy knee. Hunched over, the singer, who now looks like Lorne Greene’s kid brother with collarbone-length silver and rust hair, moved gingerly throughout his 75 minutes onstage. But we should all summon so much passion and purpose at age 89. Jon Bream has been a music critic at the Star Tribune since 1975, making him the longest tenured pop critic at a U.S. daily newspaper. He has attended more than 8,000 concerts and written four books (on Prince, Led Zeppelin, Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan). Thus far, he has ignored readers’ suggestions that he take a music-appreciation class.
