There are very few situations in basketball where Nikola Jokic is uncomfortable
But the center of the yearly debate over who the Most Valuable Player in the league is one of them
His face visibly contorts when the three letters are even uttered near him
He deflects questions about the award as quickly as he redirects one of his quick touch passes on the court
Six of the past seven seasons Jokic has been in the top five of the MVP race
But this year he has done something completely unexpected
He actually made a case for himself to win the award
Nowhere did he say that it would mean a lot to him personally
What Jokic outlined was simple: He has never played as well as he did this year
and if we agree on that premise -- that he has been even better this season than his three MVP campaigns -- then logically
Besides averaging a triple-double and leading the league with 33 of them this season
Jokic ranked among the top three in scoring (29.6)
and was among the top 20 players in 3-point percentage (41.7%)
But there's one very big difference this year than in the previous three years
a hole in what is otherwise an open-and-shut case
Gilgeous-Alexander had a season for the ages, too, leading the league in scoring (32.7 points per game) and playing All-NBA-caliber defense while guiding the youngest team in the league to 68 wins by the largest average margin of victory (plus-12.9 PPG) in NBA history, surpassing the record set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers
It is your classic best-player-on-the-best-team versus best-statistical-season MVP race
The only time the debate seemed to take center stage or grow even the least bit heated came when the Nuggets and Thunder split back-to-back games March 9 and 10
Gilgeous-Alexander made his case with 40 points
8 assists and 3 steals in the nationally televised March 9 win
I love all the accolades that come with it
Jokic made his case the next night with 35 points
18 rebounds and 8 assists as the Nuggets won the far less publicized game
every TV and radio show debated who should win; teammates on both sides campaigned for their guy; and voters were left with a month to sort through everything before casting their votes
both men have gone out of their way to compliment the other for a hell of a season
But whatever debate there was has given way to the playoff drama about to transpire
This second-round matchup between the Thunder and the Nuggets will bring all of it back into focus
starting with Game 1 in Oklahoma City on Monday night
The MVP is expected to be announced during a live TNT broadcast during this round of the playoffs
This means Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic (and Giannis Antetokounmpo too) will be asked to join a livestream and await the announcement of the most important individual award in basketball at a time when their entire focus has shifted to team success
"It is the last thing on both of our minds," Jokic said Saturday night after the Nuggets finished off the LA Clippers in Game 7 of their hard-fought first-round series
The votes have long since been cast. And winning the MVP hasn't correlated with winning an NBA title since Stephen Curry did it in 2015
none of the previous nine MVP winners has made it past the conference finals
But when asked about Gilgeous-Alexander as a player
"He's a very different player," Jokic said
that's a good defense.' It feels so easy for him and he's amazing with a change of speed
his shooting at the midrange is unguardable basically
Gilgeous-Alexander has taken a different approach in how he has handled the attention that comes with an MVP race
He has acknowledged how much it would mean to him
he reiterates that the only goal that really matters to him is the Thunder winning
Which has left the job of campaigning to surrogates. Former Denver coach Michael Malone had historically been Jokic's hype man. But after he was unceremoniously fired with just three games left in the season, Nuggets swingman Christian Braun took over
From the play-in tournament to the NBA Finals
ESPN has you covered throughout the playoffs
"I think that Nikola had maybe the greatest season ever," Braun said Saturday night
"I don't know if you'll ever see a player do what he did ever again in one singular regular season
But to see what Nikola did night in and night out
I don't know that you'll ever see that again."
In December, Thunder center Chet Holmgren tweeted simply
"Lu Dort for DPOY and Shai for MVP or we riot."
It is an intriguing subplot to this series that both of the front men will do their best to ignore
Asked whether he thought Jokic cared whether he wins
"I know Shai a lot better than I know Jokic," Daigneault said Sunday afternoon
"But I think I know enough to know that neither one of them are going to get distracted by that
Both of them are going to be fully invested in the series

USA’s two-time Olympic champion Valarie Allman regained the North American discus record with a remarkable 73.52m throw at the Oklahoma Throws Series – a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting – in Ramona on Saturday (12)
That mark is the farthest women's discus throw in the world since 1989 and it moves Allman to sixth on the world all-time list
At a competition known for big performances
world champion Laulauga Tausaga-Collins also improved her PB to 70.72m
a season’s best that improved on the 66.72m she achieved on her opener in Austin last month
She followed that with 65.01m in round two
before launching herself up the all-time list with her next effort
Allman’s 73.52m in the third round improves on her previous best and US record of 71.46m set in San Diego in 2022
That had been a North American record until Cuba’s Yaime Perez threw 73.09m in Ramona last year
But Allman became the area record-holder again on Saturday
and she followed her 73.52m with throws of 66.71m and 68.10m before closing her series with 70.16m
USA’s Tausaga-Collins achieved her PB of 70.72m in the second round
while her compatriot Veronica Fraley improved her own PB to 68.72m to finish third
Perez finished fourth on this occasion with a best of 66.96m
In earlier Oklahoma Throws Series action, Australia’s Matt Denny threw an Oceanian discus record of 74.25m on Thursday (10) for a mark that is just 10cm shy of Mykolas Alekna’s world record
Both Denny and Alekna will compete in the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational on Sunday (13)
USA’s Rachel Richeson won the hammer competition with a throw of 78.80m
That mark adds almost four metres to her previous PB and moves her to fifth on the world all-time list
The national indoor weight throw champion surpassed 74 metres with three of her throws in Ramona
backing up her 78.80m from the fifth round with 74.25m from the third round and 76.41m from the sixth

DENVER -- Nikola Jokic was blunt after the Denver Nuggets fired coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth with just three games left to go in the regular season
saying the organization was clearly looking for change
the season was slipping away and there was very little time left to turn things back in the right direction before the playoffs
An early postseason exit looked inevitable with the way the Nuggets were going
there's no way we're even in a Game 7," a Nuggets executive told ESPN
Denver is back to playing the type of basketball they did two years ago
"I think the owner ... wanted to change something, to change the energy, and probably he did," Jokic said after the Nuggets finished off a 120-101 win over the LA Clippers on Saturday night in Game 7 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series
And each superstar in this series left his mark on it
In Game 7, however, Denver's supporting cast was the difference. Christian Braun had mostly been valuable for his defense on Harden during the series; but on Saturday
Braun helped get Denver off to a strong start
scoring nine of the teams 21 points in the first quarter
"Last year, obviously the team had a missed opportunity, but I felt like we should have won," Braun said, referring to the Nuggets' Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round
But I just felt like there was opportunity left on the table
and I felt like I wanted to be a part of it
[Saturday's performance] was exactly what I wanted
and those guys trusted me -- they have all year
this is the exact moment I was looking for
Denver's Aaron Gordon led all scorers with 22 points
eight of which came in the second quarter when the Nuggets opened up the game with a 37-point outburst
Gordon had one of the best dunks you'll ever see -- a reverse
two-handed jam that sent the crowd at Ball Arena into a tizzy and seemed to crush the spirit of the Clippers once and for all
Nuggets sixth man Russell Westbrook scored 10 of his 16 points in the decisive second quarter
hitting two huge 3-pointers to push his series average for 3-point shooting to 42%
the best in any playoff series in his career
What made that especially painful for the Clippers is that they were basically daring the career 30.5% 3-point shooter to beat them from behind the arc
Westbrook got an average separation of 9.1 feet between himself and the closest defender on his 3-point attempts in the series
That's the second-most separation for any player in a playoff series since player tracking began in 2014
Westbrook had said after a virtuoso performance in Game 1 that he would talk about the way his former team was defending him after the Nuggets "took care of business" and won the series
"I think they believed that that was their best bet of stopping me or taking me out of this series," Westbrook said
"But one thing that nobody knows is that I work my ass off
I'm always prepared and I'll be prepared for anything because I prepare myself for everything
I guess it didn't work out so well for them."
five rebounds and five steals in just 27 minutes of play in Game 7
The performances by the Nuggets' role players more than made up for a below-average-for-him outing from a foul-plagued Jokic
who had only 16 points on just 6-of-14 shooting
six Denver players scored in double figures
It was the kind of balanced attack the Nuggets rode to a title in 2023
and interim coach David Adelman was confident enough to refer to that team in his postgame comments
"I thought it reminded me of the year we won it," Adelman said of the balance his team found in Game 7
"There's a lot of humble confidence in there
You have to go into these games with great respect for who's across the hall here
But you also can't go into the game not thinking that
we've been through this before and we've succeeded."
The Nuggets will have just one day to prepare for the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder and the start of the second round on Monday night
"This was a memorable series," Adelman said
"We just don't really have time to remember it ..
Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna improved his own discus world record by more than a metre with a sensational 75.56m* throw at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational
a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting
Back at the meeting where he set his first world record of 74.35m last year
the Olympic silver medallist twice improved that mark – first setting a world record of 74.89m with his opening throw and then improving to 75.56m in the fourth round
Australia’s Matt Denny, who threw 74.25m in Ramona on Thursday (10)
also surpassed Alekna’s previous world record by launching the discus 74.78m
The Olympic bronze medallist backed up that throw with four other attempts beyond 70 metres
five athletes surpassed 70 metres and seven threw beyond 69 metres
who threw 70.08m to finish runner-up to Denny three days earlier
improved to 71.27m to finish third in Sunday's contest and Germany’s Clemens Prufer threw 71.01m to finish fourth
Great Britain’s Lawrence Okoye finished fifth with 70.76m
Alekna’s 74.35m in Ramona on 14 April last year had broken the longest standing men's world record – that 74.08m having been achieved by Jurgen Schult in 1986
Now the 22-year-old has become the first athlete to surpass 75 metres
The Alekna family has two of the top four men’s discus throwers in history
with two-time Olympic champion Virgilijus Alekna – the father of Mykolas – now placed fourth on the world all-time list with his 73.88m from 2000
Mykolas Alekna’s latest world record came the day after Valarie Allman threw a North American record of 73.52m in Ramona for the farthest women's discus throw in the world since 1989

Four days after breaking the 70-metre barrier for the first time in his career, Australia’s Matt Denny came close to breaking the world record at the Oklahoma Throws Series in Ramona on Thursday (10).
The Olympic bronze medallist – competing at the same facility where Mykolas Alekna broke the world record last year, and where Denny himself threw 72.07m last weekend – sent his discus beyond the 70-metre line with all six throws in a competition where three men threw beyond 70 metres and six beyond 68 metres.
Denny opened with 71.03m, then set a PB of 73.46m in round two. His best throw came in the third round as his discus landed at an Oceanian record of 74.25m, just 10cm shy of Alekna’s world record and moving Denny to second on the world all-time list.
He rounded out his series with throws of 72.93m, 71.14m and 73.56m. USA’s Sam Mattis was second with 70.08m, just three centimetres ahead of Germany’s Mika Sosna.
Alida van Daalen of the Netherlands won the women’s discus with 65.11m.
Denny will be back in action in Ramona on Sunday in a competition where he’ll take on world record-holder Alekna. Two-time Olympic champion Valarie Allman headlines the women’s contest.
The second weekend of April has become somewhat of a holy occasion for throws fans over the past two years thanks to the introduction of the Ramona World Invitational
dozens of the best discus throwers in the world flocked to the tiny town in Oklahoma to take advantage of the high winds that have made Millican Field the throwing equivalent of Hayward
or Valencia for readers that need a running-to-throwing conversion
In Ramona’s inaugural bronze level competition
Mykolas Alekna toppled the men’s world record that had stood for 37 years and Yaimé Pérez recorded the longest throw by a woman since 1988
This year’s fields are even deeper and feature a handful of new faces to give the defending champs—and the world records—a run for their money
Before we get into what to expect out of this weekend
we need to delve a little bit into what makes Ramona the discus-throwing haven that it is
The simple answer comes down to the fact that it’s an absolute wind factory
Common logic would say that discus throwers would want a strong wind at their back
while a headwind catches the disc from underneath and lifts it
There are also finer details about specific angles of the wind and the impact that it has on righty versus lefty throwers
But the general idea is “headwind equals big throws,” and Millican Field has rings set up in every direction to make sure those big Oklahoman winds can always be caught
“I just like going there because it’s throws only
and they have a million meets throughout the whole season
let’s get to the good stuff (which is still mainly discus
Here are the top battles and and storylines to watch throughout the weekend:
and the defending World champion are all converging in Ramona this weekend
the most notable returner from last year’s competition
Since defecting from Cuba after the 2022 World Championships in Eugene
she’s continued to be one of the best throwers in the world
She just hasn’t gotten the chance to show it on the world stage
Pérez made an emphatic statement when she stepped in the ring last April and launched the discus 73.09m
becoming the first woman in over three decades to enter the Top 10 all-time
but her lone competition in 2024 prior to hitting her historic mark was 61.87m
so it’s not necessarily that she’s missing a major data point she had on her side last year
She won last year’s meet by nearly six meters
it’s highly unlikely that will be the case this year
Valarie Allman coming to this meet is a fact that should make every track and field fan in the world jump with joy
Allman has been the best discus thrower of the 2020s and has consistently shown the ability to hit huge marks inside stadiums
Her PB of 71.46m—the American record—is over two meters ahead of where Pérez’s was before this meet last year
so the potential for what she might be able to produce is sky-high
throwing a world-leading 66.72m at Texas Relays two weeks ago
and then going 63.61m in her Ramona debut two days later in what was essentially a public practice session
Allman and Pérez have met 23 times in their careers
but Allman hasn’t lost to her since September 2021
It would take a nearly perfect throw from either of these women to approach Gabrielle Reinsch’s world record of 76.80m
which nobody has ever come within two meters of
but is it insane to suggest that’s not completely out of the picture on Saturday
The optimist in me says they’ll have to break out the steel tape
She had a picture-perfect 2023 en route to a World title in Budapest
ultimately sending her home from Trials without a legal mark on the board
as she returned to her old coach Eric Werksey
who she worked with while at Iowa and who is now the throws coach at Florida
Early returns looked solid but not spectacular for her last week at Florida Relays
Whether she’ll be able to fully return to her World champ form is yet to be seen
but it’s worth noting her PB of 69.49m is also ahead of Pérez’s pre-Ramona PB
The best way to break down the rest of the field is into two main groups
The first of these is a cohort of collegians who could be on a record-breaking trajectory
and Florida’s Alida van Daalen occupy positions four through six on the all-time collegiate list
with van Daalen’s 66.31m PB from a trip to Ramona last year sandwiched between Beistle’s 66.63m from Saturday and Ulrich’s 66.14m from March 22nd
A shoulder injury that van Daalen has been nursing throughout the winter and early spring means she’s not at 100%
but she still managed 63.36m in her season opener
This is a situation similar to the battle between Allman and Pérez
where it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility for any of these women to surpass Jorinde Van Klinken’s collegiate record of 70.22m
But it would probably take a flawless moment
The second group is a handful of women who should be competing for the remaining two spots on Team USA for Tokyo given that Tausaga-Collins has a bye and Allman is as much of a lock as Ryan Crouser throwing 22m
now in her first season as a pro after wrapping up her collegiate career at Vanderbilt
has made each of the last three national teams and was runner-up to Pérez at this meet last year with her PB of 67.17m
but an Achilles tear in March 2023 and three successive surgeries have kept her out of competition entirely for the past two years
which she threw in Ramona in June 2022 (which means she was here before it was cool)
Micaela Hazlewood could at long last be on the edge of a breakout season
team was a runner-up finish at the Trials in 2021
but she didn’t have the standard or ranking points to head to Tokyo
The 64.50m standard could be in range for her this weekend
making her the fourth American with the standard early on in this window
and at the very least she should pick up some good ranking points
It should also be noted that both Ulrich and Beistle are American
with Ulrich making the national team for Paris alongside Allman and Fraley
it would be a crime not to give a shoutout to Mélina Robert-Michon
the seven-time Olympian who has thrown at least 60m in now 23 of the last 26 years
The legendary Frenchwoman made her Ramona debut last week at 60.66m
This men’s field has to be the best ever assembled outside of an Olympics or World Championships
Matty Denny got the ring warmed up last weekend when he threw 72.07m in his first competition in Ramona
becoming only the fifth man to ever break 72m
It served as the next step in his continual growth
and he could still very well improve again this weekend
Denny won last week’s competition by nearly six meters and will be pushed to his absolute limits this time out if he wants to topple the world record holder
Alekna’s performance here nearly one year ago to the day is a huge reason why so many new faces are showing up to Oklahoma this weekend (world records are good marketing)
as he capped the greatest series the world has ever seen with the greatest throw the world has ever seen at 74.35m
he had opened with an uncertified 71.39m bomb in Berkeley
and this year his opener was the easiest 70.09m toss you ever did see
The most important development for Alekna last year was consistency
as his worst performance of 2024 was 67.48m
He’s clearly proven he can take full advantage of the conditions in Ramona
and the sky is the absolute limit for 22-year-old who’s now competing for Cal again in his redshirt-junior year
so it’ll be interesting to see if he can replicate some of that success in the limelight
there’s a halfway-decent chance that every American representative at this September’s Tokyo World Champs will be competing this weekend
Jagers and Shurts all set PBs in Ramona last year
team since Doha despite dealing with a testicular cancer diagnosis in 2022
just opened his 2025 campaign with a PB of 68.74m at the Triton Invitational in San Diego
This weekend could also serve as an advance preview of both German and British championships
The German side will see Olympic sixth-placer Clemens Prüfer
and 2023 national champion Henrik Janssen going head-to-head-to-head
while British rivals Nick Percy and Lawrence Okoye
will be duking it out for the 31st time in their careers
Alekna is obviously the collegiate headliner in the field
but Oklahoma’s Ralford Mullings hit 69.67m here last April while red-shirting and opened his 2025 season with 69.13m toss at Texas Relays
the best mark ever by a collegian not named Alekna
There’s a handful of other top collegiate talent that may finish a bit down the results page given the depth of the field
but don’t overlook Kansas’s Dimitrios Pavlidis or Virginia Tech’s Vlad Puchko
The wind doesn’t have as big of an impact on the flight of the hammer
but according to UCLA throws coach Sean Denard (courtesy of Audrey Allen) a tailwind can help hammer throwers get across the ring faster
leading to more force being put into the implement at release
there’s little that wind can do to affect a 16-pound ball moving that fast
CITIUS MAG will have boots on the ground in Ramona, so follow along all weekend for coverage. All four days of the meet, including the elite discus competitions on Saturday and Sunday, will be streamed for free on the Throws University YouTube channel.
Paul is currently a student at the University of Florida (Go Gators) and is incredibly excited to be making his way into the track and field scene. He loves getting the opportunity to showcase the fascinating storylines that build up year-over-year across all events (but especially the throws).

Fellow cast members even noticed that she was "aging backwards" and Singer came out with a skin care line in 2019 after getting compliments on how young she looked
Singer, an original cast member of the show, left the series two season ago when Bravo decided to bring in an entirely new cast. However, she still commands a large fan following and social media users were quick to point out that her latest photo on Instagram appeared to have significant edits
Singer posted a photo of herself with two friends on Thursday with the caption "Just another great night in Palm Beach." In the photo
Singer's skin is extremely smooth and some fans found it was inconsistent with her appearance in other photos
People commented that she looked younger than her daughter
asked what filter routine she used and joked that she resembled a wax figure from Madame Tussauds
In response to the questions about putting filters on the photo
"I guess my gorgeous gay friends did lol," Singer posted on Instagram

This review comes to us from horror author and freelance writer Jena Brown
She's provided a quick synopsis of Exposure below for those who have not read it; you'll find her full review after the block
Navajo forensic photographer Rita Todacheene is at a crossroads
After years of hiding her ability to see the ghosts of murder victims
her colleagues at the Albuquerque PD have found out — and no longer trust her because of it
both that and her insistence on serving justice… even if it means turning on one of their own
her caseload keeps growing — extending now into the city of Gallup
where violent crime is five times the national average
When its citizens realize there’s a serial killer prowling their streets
they turn to Rita: possibly the only person who can help them find someone so elusive
Rita struggles to keep them at a distance — before they shatter her entirely
In Ramona Emerson’s debut novel Shutter (longlisted for the National Book Award in 2022)
Though it isn’t crucial to read the first in order to enjoy her second
the story is deeper and offers far more insight into Rita and her struggles if you do
Emerson focuses entirely on Rita in Shutter
weaving in her past with her present in alternating chapters
so readers gain a full understanding of Rita’s ability and how dangerous it can truly be
While I do think the first book lends so much more to the sequel
Emerson writes for both the return reader and those brand-new to her books
giving us just the right amount of context before plunging us into this new mystery
One of my favorite elements of Shutter was how Emerson moved between two storylines in two different periods of time
There was a heartbreaking inevitability to Rita’s present that was written into her past
lending gravity to what otherwise might have been a typical paranormal crime story
I was delighted to find that Emerson does the same in Exposure — only this time
the perspective alternates between Rita and a serial killer
It’s an escalation in both tone and danger
perfectly elevating the tension in the story
Rita is still reeling from the events at the end of Shutter; In some ways
she is stronger and more assured than ever
she’s far more vulnerable than she’s ever been
you can’t help but worry that Rita will be swallowed by their collective need for justice and revenge
It takes a lot of skill to paint someone so sinister through a sympathetic lens
but I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for the tragic life of Father Gabriel
This understanding doesn’t make his actions forgivable; if anything
But real-world evil exists in shadowy corners and shades of gray
Father Gabriel shows us how complicated human nature can be; he’s a man devoted to love
yet he cannot see the hateful ways that drive him
This depiction of a killer might be unsettling for some
But that’s what is so enthralling about Emerson’s writing
Her prose is hypnotic — a balm to the horrifying events she recreates in agonizing detail
But while the scenes themselves can be graphic
putting the camera between her and the crimes
And perhaps that’s why the ghosts are there
They force us to see beyond the photographs
They give Rita the impetus she needs to focus on herself
finally allowing herself the space to heal
Neither Rita nor Father Gabriel can escape the ghosts that drive them — only where one is an unexplained gift
the other is born of trauma and driven by a twisted perspective
In other words: both Rita and Father Gabriel are at the mercy of their ghosts
but how they choose to pursue justice leads them down different paths with very different ends
It’s in these differences that the truth of their afflictions lies
One is burdened by the weight of the deaths; the other finds freedom in them
Rita and Father Gabriel are both searching for peace
for a way to quiet the relentless presences demanding their help
There is a beauty in this juxtaposition between the two; Emerson examines how trauma shapes and scars
and how profoundly it can shade one’s perspective
the contrast between these characters shows the powerful difference that love can make — and how devastating it is when love is taken away
Another interesting aspect of the alternating storylines is the influence of faith and culture
While some of this relies on having read Shutter
in which Rita’s history unfolds in more detail
the impact of her family and personal history on her life is apparent in Exposure as well
Both Rita and Father Gabriel attempt to use prayer to handle their ghosts
But it isn’t simply belief that makes these prayers effective — it’s the community that surrounds them
While they both have people of faith in their lives
Rita has willingness and faith to be lifted up by those around her
even when that openness has worked against her in the past
And that makes all the difference in the world
This aspect of community comes into play time and time again throughout Rita’s storyline
Emerson’s own experience as a Diné woman is woven into the rich layers of her character; she doesn’t offer detailed explanations of Navajo culture
sprinkles them into almost every page — light dustings of corn pollen that tangle in the words
and brings the biting wind on the way to the pharmacy to life
The picture Emerson paints is not a photograph
capturing an image as her protagonist does
it draws the reader into a warm home on a cold day and shows them the love that lives inside
but some favorites from Shutter and some new characters as well
Emerson creates characters who feel like people you might see at the store
They’re varied and complex — and given the atmosphere of violence and corruption in the book
you can’t help but worry about them in the story
sometimes the good ones die and the bad ones survive
But Emerson is never gratuitous; nothing is wasted or done for theatrics in her narratives
This is a glimpse of the real world — one that can be immersed in beauty and
I highly recommend reading Shutter before dipping into Exposure
Rita is a character you can’t help but fall in love with
Her tenacity and strength in the face of unthinkable horrors isn’t just about enduring them; it’s about finding justice against all odds and overcoming atrocity with her compassion intact
But exposing the truth is still important — even if it’s an ugly truth no one wants to hear
covering everything from children being murdered to criminals getting their throats slashed
The violence is there for a reason: to be documented and witnessed
You should know your tolerance before diving in
Exposure is a unique crime story that I found compulsive and addictive
I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves complex narratives tackling both the good and evil sides of humanity
and I can’t wait for the next installment to be released

The 67-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 87,300 square feet
including 181 student-oriented apartments and 16,050 square feet in the basement garage
Parking will be included for 30 cars and 22 bicycles
Ramos Design Group is the project architect
The overall design scheme has not changed since the preliminary application was submitted two months ago
The structure conforms to the irregular parcel shape with a narrow linear pathway carved out of the center of the floor plan
Illustrations show the structure clad with vertically fluted aluminum panels punctuated by bright yellow and orange inset balconies
Next to 2910 Ramona Avenue is The Crossings
a five-story student-oriented apartment complex developed by AmCal Housing
The Crossing features approximately 250 units across three buildings
The 0.8-acre property is located along Ramona Avenue
near three different train tracks and the El Dorado overpass
Among the selling points for prospective tenants is that the site is close to the California State University
The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established
