Dodgers affiliates Tulsa and Rancho Cucamonga each won on Saturday
and it was opening day in the Arizona Complex League
Here are some highlights from the day’s action in the minors
Hyun-Seok Jang had his longest professional outing
pitching 4⅓ scoreless innings with five strikeouts for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday
as the 21-year-old right-hander has 17 walks in his 19⅔ innings on the season to go with his 22 strikeouts
done both on opening day April 4 this year and August 22 last year
Four runs in the middle innings turned a two-run Comets lead into a two-run loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres)
Justin Wrobleski struck out six in his six innings for his longest start of the season
and departed a tied game after allowing single runs in the fifth and sixth frames
Jose Hernandez gave up the deciding two runs in the seventh
Esteury Ruíz leads the Pacific Coast League with 16 stolen bases in only 23 games
But after taking a vacant third base without a throw in the seventh inning
with runners on the corners representing the potential tying runs and Dalton Rushing at the plate with two outs
Ruíz tried a straight steal of home and was thrown out
When Rushing did get to bat in the eighth inning
he was assessed a pitch-clock violation for strike three
the arguments against which led to the ejections of Rushing and manager Scott Hennessey
Alex Freeland reached base four times with a single and three walks
He reached seven times in eight plate appearances in the last two days
A wild pitch brought home the game-winner as Tulsa walked off the Arkansas Travelers (Mariners) in 10 innings
hit the game-tying home run in the seventh inning
and Kelvin Ramirez combined for 5⅔ scoreless
hitless innings to keep Arkansas off the board after the fifth inning
The Loons scored just one run on seven hits in the 14 innings of a doubleheader sweep by the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals)
Kendall George left the first game after his second at-bat
replaced at designated hitter by Wilman Diaz
George appeared to hurt his right side on a swing in the third inning
George completed the at-bat and popped out in the infield
Outfielder Kole Myers walked twice and stole two bases in the first game
He scored the only Great Lakes run of Saturday
Logan Wagner doubled and singled in the first game
Brooks Auger allowed five runs on five hits and five walks in his four innings
with two strikeouts to take the loss in the first game
Great Lakes used a bullpen game in the nightcap
and Livan Reinoso allowed three runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game
Quakes pitchers allowed only five baserunners in a shutout of the Stockton Ports (A’s)
Alex Makarawich followed Jang on the mound and got through the fifth inning
Jholbran Herder and Nicolas Cruz each pitched two scoreless frames to close out the win
Rancho Cucamonga spread around the offense
with five different players scoring once each
Jaron Elkins had two singles and stole two bases
Opening day in Arizona saw the Dodgers lose on the road to the Guardians
Right fielder Easton Shelton hit a two-run home run
A handful of Dodgers who were named to at least one top-20 team prospect list played in this game
Left fielder Ching-Hsien Ko singled twice and scored two runs
Center fielder Brendan Tunink walked twice
and scored a run in his professional debut
Third baseman Chase Harlan was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in his debut
Shortstop Emil Morales was 0-for-4 with a walk
This game was on the big field in Goodyear and had Statcast data available
Among the standouts was a 105.9-mph lineout by Morales
and Ko’s first single at 105.1 mph off the bat
Triple-A: Utility man Hyeseong Kim was called up to the Dodgers. Relief pitcher Ryan Loutos, who was acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday
was activated by Oklahoma City and retired all four batters he faced with one strikeout
is also with the Comets but wasn’t activated Saturday; broadcaster Alex Freedman said during the game that Feyereisen would be activated Sunday.
High-A: Infielder/outfielder Nick Biddison and third baseman Jake Gelof both started a rehab assignment in Arizona
Both have been on the injured list all season
Gelof doubled twice and walked in his three trips to the plate
– The Ports (14-13) couldn’t get the season split with the Quakes (19-8) on Sunday afternoon
as Rancho Cucamonga jumped out early and held on for a 9-5 win over Stockton in the series finale
Wei-En Lin was good through the first two innings before running into trouble in the third
A bunt single on the first pitch of the inning was followed by the first walk that Lin has issued though his first 22 professional innings
The very next pitch was driven 367 feet out to right field by Kellon Lindsey for a 3-0 Quakes lead
The next pitch was singled into center before an RBI triple by Eduardo Quintero made it 4-0 Quakes
An error and a sac fly would score two more to cap a six-run third for Rancho
The Ports would load the bases on three different occasions but wouldn’t score on the first two opportunities
They were down 8-1 in the seventh when Gunner Gouldsmith laced a double (4) the other way just inside the first base bag to clear the bases and cut it to an 8-4 deficit
A passed ball scored Gouldsmith and the Ports had made it a game at 8-5 going into the bottom of the eighth
But Felix Castro would allow his second run in relief
and three wild pitches to give Rancho their four-run lead back at 9-5
Stockton got a pair of hits in the ninth with two out
but a high strike-three call on Gouldsmith ended the game
Davis Diaz saw his 17-game on-base streak come to an end
Carlos Franco did extend his hit streak to five games
UP NEXT: The Ports will make the short trip to San Bernardino, Calif. to start up a six-game series with Inland Empire on Tuesday at 6:35 PM. Single game tickets, mini plans, and group outings are all on sale for the 2025 season. For more information, call the Ports front office at 209-644-1900 or email at [email protected]
– The Ports were held to two hits on Saturday night
as they were blanked by the Quakes 5-0 to give Rancho Cucamonga the series win for the first six-game series loss for the Ports this season
Both hits for Stockton (14-12) came via singles into center by Carlos Franco
who was making his first start at first base as a member of the Ports
It was just the second time this season the Ports had been shutout
the other coming in Stockton’s lone loss in Visalia this year in a 1-0 defeat
labor-intensive first inning before settling in
He allowed two runs in a 34-pitch first frame on a walk and two hits
He got around a two-out bloop single in the second when Cesar Franco made a diving grab on another shallow fly ball to end the inning
Then the former Texas A&M Aggie had back-to-back
three-up-three-down innings in the third and fourth
But a double followed by one-out triple from Mike Sirota would make it 3-0 Quakes and chase Dettmer before Aidan Layton wrapped up the fifth
Ryan Magdic struck out the side in the sixth
but the Quakes plated an unearned run in the seventh to go up 4-0 and scored on a wild pitch in the eighth for their 5-0 lead
Davis Diaz extended his on-base streak to 17 games the hard way when he was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning
It’s just the second series loss for Stockton when factoring in dropping two of three in Fresno to start the 2025 campaign
0.00) will start for the Quakes and Ports will roll out LHP Wei-En Lin (1-0
Single game tickets, mini plans, and group outings are all on sale for the 2025 season. For more information, call the Ports front office at 209-644-1900 or email at [email protected]
Dodgers affiliates split their four games on Friday
James Outman had his second two-homer game of the season
and drove in six runs in Oklahoma City’s rout of El Paso
He hit a three-run shot in the first inning
THAT’S how you get the game going❗️ pic.twitter.com/XnjAwE1MSa
This moonshot marks No. 2 on the day for James Outman! pic.twitter.com/0kdigtGy9o
The reigning Pacific Coast League player of the week has six hits and eight RBI in the first four games of this series
Outman has a five-game hit streak and has reached base in his last 16 games
The offense was flowing in the Comets’ rout of the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres)
First baseman Ryan Ward had three hits, including his seventh home run of the season. This is Ward’s third season with the Comets, and Friday’s blast was his 61st career home run for Oklahoma City
setting the franchise record during the team’s Bricktown Era (since 1998)
surpassing former first baseman/outfielder Jason Hart
who did his OKC damage while in the Rangers system
As good as the Comets offense was, Nick Frasso pitched five scoreless innings for his longest start of the season, with three strikeouts and two walks. Frasso, who missed all of last season after shoulder and hip surgeries
wasn’t stretched past three innings in any of his first five outings this year
But he went four innings on April 28 and then five innings this Friday on a season-high 69 pitches
It was an eventful night for Esteury Ruíz who doubled
He was also visited twice early by athletic trainer Griffin Boyte, once after a pickoff throw at second base hit him in the helmet in the first inning, and then after a spectacular diving catch in left field in the third inning during which Ruíz landed awkwardly on his left wrist
The Drillers scored their first two runs on an error
the last one giving Tulsa a walk-off win over the Arkansas Travelers (Mariners)
Yeiner Fernandez reached on an error in the fourth inning that scored the game’s first two runs
this time interference by pitcher Juan Burgos
Nick Senzel singled Fernandez into scoring position
then with two outs a grounder to first base was mishandled by a covering Burgos for the game-winner
Walk-off Kings pic.twitter.com/79nfCOsQRu
Arkansas committed four errors in the loss
The winning Drillers committed only two errors
The three highly-rated outfield prospects each had two hits
but the rest of the Loons lineup was hitless in 20 at-bats in a loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals)
Josue De Paula was the designated hitter on Friday and hit a two-run home run in the first inning
which was enough to put five runs on his ledger
It’s been a rough go so far with the Loons for Crowell
who has 16 walks (a 34-percent walk rate) in 9⅓ innings and an 8.68 ERA
Sterling Patick had the best start of his career
but the Quakes couldn’t muster much offense until late in a loss to the Stockton Ports (A’s)
entered Friday having allowed 16 runs (12 earned) in seven innings in his first four appearances this season
Rancho Cucamonga didn’t score until the eighth inning
but it came directly after Stockton plated six in the top of the frame for the Ports’ only runs of the game
Double-A: The Dodgers signed Nick Senzel to a minor league deal this week
and assigned the 30-year-old infielder to Tulsa
The 30-year-old played third base in both games so far
Outfielder and occasional second baseman Bubba Alleyne, who was drafted by the Dodgers in the 19th round in 2022
was released on Thursday after a 6-for-42 start with no extra-base hits
hitting .143/.182/.143 in his second go-around with the Drillers
Saturday is opening day in the Arizona Complex League
Oklahoma City’s games on both Saturday and Sunday will be televised by SportsNet LA, two of at least Comets 13 games that will be televised by the network
CA – A six-run eighth put the Ports ahead to stay
as Stockton snapped Rancho’s season-best eight-game winning streak with a 6-3 win over Rancho on Friday night at LoanMart Field
Despite five perfect innings from starter Sterling Patick
the Quakes’ offense was held in check by Stockton pitching throughout most of the evening
as Stockton snapped their own four-game losing streak
handing Rancho their first home loss in their last six tries
when Stockton took advantage of a lead-off walk issued by Rancho reliever Felix Cabrera (0-2)
Marco Corcho was summoned out of the bullpen and gave up a hit to Thomas Takayoshi and then an RBI groundout off the bat of German Ortiz
before Davis Diaz doubled home a pair to make it 4-0
Corcho would leave in favor of Octavio Becerra
who immediately surrendered a two-run homer to Cameron Leary
Rancho answered back with three in the eighth
as Samuel Munoz singled home a run against eventual winner
Nico Perez capped the inning with a two-run triple
Stockton’s Diego Berrera got out of the eighth and then worked a 1-2-3 ninth to wrap it up
The Quakes (17-8) will send Hyun-Seok Jang (0-1) to the mound on Saturday at 6:30pm
as he’ll take on Stockton’s Nathan Dettmer (2-1) in game five of the series
Fans will enjoy Fireworks after the game on Saturday

Some moments in our lives remain ingrained in our heads
when it felt like the world suddenly stood still as malls
and only essential retail and health services continued
but not without a subconscious preference for open-air shopping centers that appears to linger to this day
many open-air shopping centers are also newer or redeveloped
thus likely contributing to their popularity
there’s no doubt that they’ve rebounded at a higher rate compared to their indoor mall and even outlet mall counterparts
We analyzed traffic data for one of the most-visited open-air shopping centers in the nation
to see what sets it apart and what continues to draw consumers to open-air centers
This open-air shopping center is over 1.1 million square feet and hosts over 160 retailers within its borders
In addition to marquee brands such as Apple
it also has regional favorites such as Seven Grams dumpling house and cult-favorite Duck Donuts
its walkable layout beckons while classics play in the background
Quite a few of the concepts at Victoria Gardens are on trend
the Food Hall features local eatery Elephant Thai
which is perfectly in keeping with the popularity of all things Thai these days with Season 3 of White Lotus being set in Koh Samui
Another genre that one doesn’t often see in more urban mall locations are two retailers devoted to Western wear – Buckle and Tecovas
Tecovas has a fascinating backstory with its founder
partnering initially with bootmakers from Leon
the “boot-making capital of the Americas” and selling his first pairs from the backseat of his SUV
With an average dwell time of 40 minutes between April 2024 and February 2025 and holiday spikes for Thanksgiving and Christmas
a pair of Tecova boots are on their wishlist
One of the more unique aspects of this mall is its Cultural Center on premise

it’s truly a one-stop shop for its community
the appeal of open-air shopping centers – full of public spaces
and fresh air – will only continue to grow

(VVNG.com) — The City of Rancho Cucamonga is proud to announce that Senate Bill 800 (SB 800)
passed unanimously out of the Senate Transportation Committee and now moves forward to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
SB 800 establishes a pilot program requiring Caltrans to install suicide deterrents – such as physical barriers and signage – on 10 freeway overpasses in San Bernardino County
prioritizing locations with the highest documented suicide rates over the past 20 years
The bill was introduced in response to a deeply concerning rise in suicide attempts and deaths along local freeways
including the tragic loss of two high school students just 2 weeks apart from the same overpass along Interstate 210
“This legislation is about saving lives before it’s too late,” said Rancho Cucamonga Mayor Dennis Michael
“SB 800 brings much-needed attention to a crisis that has shaken our community and numerous others throughout San Bernardino County
We are incredibly grateful to Senator Reyes for her compassionate leadership and to the Senate Transportation Committee for recognizing the urgent need for this pilot program.”
The bill is sponsored by the City of Rancho Cucamonga
which has long prioritized public health and wellness through its nationally recognized Healthy RC initiative
SB 800 aligns with the City’s commitment to address mental health with tangible
to suicide from one of these freeway overpasses
“This bill is deeply personal for so many of us,” Meena said
“It offers hope that future families might be spared the grief we’ve had to carry
we’re not just reacting to tragedy – we’re working to prevent it
tangible tools that Shirin didn’t have – signs
a moment to pause – that could mean the difference between life and death.”
Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes emphasized that SB 800 represents an important first step in integrating suicide prevention into California’s broader transportation planning efforts
“The rising number of suicide incidents from freeway overpasses is not only a profound tragedy for individuals and families but also a serious public safety concern for motorists
and the broader community,” Senator Reyes said
“With no statewide strategy to prevent and deter such tragedies in the future
we have an urgent responsibility to work across local and state governments to address them here at home.”
or community should have to endure such unimaginable grief
It is my sincere hope that these proposed solutions and resources will save precious lives in moments of crisis
I’m grateful to the City of Rancho Cucamonga for bringing this solution forward and to the parents of the children we recently lost for offering their support of this bill
especially during such a difficult period in their lives.”
SB 800 takes a critical step toward becoming law
the pilot program could serve as a model for expanding suicide deterrents across California’s highway system
ensuring that hope and help are within reach.
The City of Rancho Cucamonga extends its deepest thanks to Senator Reyes
and the entire Senate Transportation Committee for their bold commitment to saving lives and strengthening communities.

The incident occurred in the early morning of March 19, 2024, when San Bernardino County deputies responded to an unidentified caller’s report of a person “in distress and behaving erratically,” according to the family’s claim, which was filed last week in federal court in Los Angeles.
The Sheriff Department’s initial news release said deputies were checking on reports that someone had “attempted to open apartment doors, vehicle doors, and activated the apartment’s fire alarm.”
California
A family is suing the Fontana Police Department over the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Jaime Valdez.
Two female deputies arrived to find Mohd F. Hijaz, 32, seated on a curb near a bush, unarmed, according to the family’s complaint. The lawsuit says he was speaking with a passing driver, who told him they’d bring him water.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the deputies tried to keep Hijaz at a distance, but he approached them despite commands to stop. The deputies then deployed their tasers on him several times, according to the family’s lawsuit.
Another patrol car with two male deputies arrived. When the four deputies attempted to detain Hijaz, according to the department, he struck one of them in the face.
The family’s complaint alleges that the deputies then used excessive force, hitting Hijaz with baton strikes and slamming his head onto the pavement. Hijaz sustained several injuries, went into cardiopulmonary arrest and was taken to San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, where he was pronounced dead.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Hijaz’s mother, Fathieh Jawdat Naji, his widow, Nada Osama Nafaa, and his toddler-aged child.
“He was experiencing a mental health crisis, was visibly in distress, and was not engaging in criminal conduct. There was no need to exercise any force, let alone the excessive force,” they allege in the complaint.
The city of Rancho Cucamonga declined to comment. A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department said it had no information available beyond the news release that was issued two days after Hijaz’s death.
A lawyer for the family, Sa’id Vakili, said they have not been contacted by the California Department of Justice, which is required to investigate the death of an unarmed person only when officers fire their guns.
A Los Angeles police officer who killed a mentally ill man last year in Koreatown employed questionable tactics but was justified in using deadly force, the department’s oversight body ruled.
Vakili said the autopsy report, the deputies’ body camera footage and surveillance footage from a nearby apartment complex have not been released to the family.
“It’s very unusual, given that it’s been over a year. [The Sheriff’s Department] have mentioned that they will [release it], but they ultimately haven’t,” Vakili said. “We’re planning to get all that stuff through discovery. We’ll have an accurate account of what happened.”
Vakili said the family has been able to access photos from the coroner’s office that depict the locations of his injuries from what appear to be baton and taser strikes. The attorney said Hijaz had no history of violence prior to his death.

(VVNG.com) — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying additional potential victims after a 46-year-old Eastvale man was arrested for allegedly attempting to meet a minor for sexual acts during an undercover online operation
According to a statement from the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station
the arrest was the result of a proactive investigation conducted by detectives on Thursday
Detectives posing as a 13-year-old boy engaged in a conversation with a suspect later identified as Misael Miranda Chavez
who initiated contact through the “KIK” messaging platform
Investigators said Chavez continued the communication outside of the app
using the username “chinoCa21,” and arranged to meet the fictitious minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity
When Chavez arrived at the predetermined location in the city of Rancho Cucamonga
he was taken into custody without incident
He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC 288.3(a) – Contacting a Minor for Lewd Purpose and was later released on $100,000 bail
The Sheriff’s Department has released Chavez’s photograph and username in an effort to identify any other individuals who may have been approached by him
“Detectives believe there may be additional victims,” officials stated
“We encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
Anyone who may have interacted with Chavez online or in person is urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station at (909) 477-2800. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or visit www.wetip.com
Nathaniel Castro Mendoza, also of Rancho Cucamonga, overdosed Dec. 14.
On March 12, his family mourned what would have been his 11th birthday.
“We miss you Nate with our whole hearts and souls and will continue to keep your name and memory alive in all we do our little angel,” his mother, Marcy Castro, wrote on social media. “We love you Nathan, happy heavenly birthday.”
Two days later, Christina Alvarez, 32, was arrested in connection with his death.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department determined that Alvarez “possessed and stored fentanyl in a manner that led to the victim’s death” but did not disclose her connection to Nathaniel.
Alvarez was charged with child endangerment and an enhancement of willful harm resulting in death. She pleaded not guilty Tuesday and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Sheriff’s deputies responded in December to a 911 call about an unresponsive child in the 9000 block of Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga. They attempted lifesaving efforts, but Nathaniel was later pronounced dead.
In February, the San Bernardino County coroner determined that he died from fentanyl and xylazine toxicity.
Xylazine, also known as tranq, is a powerful veterinary sedative, which often is combined with fentanyl to enhance and prolong the effects of the synthetic opioid. Because xylazine is not an opioid, it cannot be reversed with an overdose medication such as Narcan, making it especially lethal.
The rapid spread across the country of xylazine
also known as “tranq,” has local health officials worried it will exacerbate an already alarming overdose crisis
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in 2023 issued a rare public safety alert about its dangerous effects when combined with fentanyl
“Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced
even deadlier,” said then-DEA Administrator Anne Milgram
“DEA has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 States
The DEA Laboratory System is reporting that in 2022 approximately 23% of fentanyl powder and 7% of fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine.”
A funeral for Nathaniel was held Dec. 27. His family described him in his obituary as a “bright light in the lives of all who knew him” and an “outgoing and spirited young boy” who was passionate about baseball and football.
He was a fifth-grade student at Bear Gulch Elementary School and an enthusiastic member of his school community, they wrote.
“Nathan’s energy and joy were contagious, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered,” they wrote. “His spirit of kindness and adventure will forever be remembered.”
Nathaniel is survived by parents Castro and Miguel Mendoza and siblings Christian Mendoza, Mark Gallegos and Miranda Gallegos.

2025 will be 15th and final year of Dodgers affiliation in Rancho Cucamonga
Dodgers will move its Low-A team to Ontario beginning in the 2026 season
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings on Thursday, part of a move that will see the Dodgers’ Low-A affiliation switch to Ontario for the 2026 season
As part of the DBH purchase of the Quakes came official word that the team will remain a Dodgers affiliate through 2025, and then shift to Ontario for the 2026 season. This move was expected for a few months, especially so when Dodgers officials were part of the groundbreaking ceremony of the new 190-acre multi-sport complex in Ontario in October
which will house the new stadium for the Dodgers’ Low-A affiliate
The previous owners of the Quakes were Brett Sports
The moving parts in the California League as part of this sale are the Dodgers to Ontario in 2026
the Angels moving from Inland Empire in San Bernardino to Rancho Cucamonga
and the Mariners moving from Modesto to San Bernardino
Rancho Cuamonga has been the California League affiliate for the Dodgers since the 2011 season
and 2025 will mark the 15th and final year of the partnership
“While we will miss our role in Rancho Cucamonga
an ownership group dedicated to providing the best experiences for players and fans,” Bobby Brett
after helping the Texans clinch their second straight trip to the AFC Divisional round
Stroud joined a very elite and exclusive list that only five other quarterbacks in league history are on
Winning his second career playoff game in only his second season
Russell Wilson and Brock Purdy as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to win a playoff start in each of their first two seasons
Stroud guided the Texans to a Wild Card win over the Cleveland Browns before a road loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round ended their season
After beating the Chargers in the Wild Card this year
Stroud and the Texans will now travel to Kansas City and attempt to knock off the Chiefs in order to make the AFC Championship game
It all started with the Texans facing a 6-0 deficit in the first quarter
But things quickly turned around for Stroud and Houston
who managed to score 10 unanswered points in the second half to go up 10-6 at the break
momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Texans
who put up 22 unanswered points in the second half to eventually take home the 32-12 victory
who completed 66% of his passes (22-for-33) threw for 282 yards and a touchdown
finding wide receiver Nico Collins wide open late in the first half to get Houston on the board for the first time all game
The play proved to be the catalyst for what was to come as that was the start of the Texans takeover that would ensue in the second half
Despite experiencing more of a down year than what he experienced as a rookie
with his passing yards and passing touchdown totals being down slightly and his interception total rising
Stroud still showed that he is exactly what the Texans need
guiding a team that had somewhat of an inconsistent regular season to their second straight AFC South title
This marks the first time since 2018 and 2019 that the team has won two straight division titles
who was taken by the Texans with the second overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft
spent his college career as a star for Ohio State
he won consecutive Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Big Ten Quarterback of the Year
Stroud guided the Buckeyes to an 11-2 overall finish
with a Rose Bowl win over Utah and in 2022
the Buckeyes finished 11-1 in the regular season and earned a CFP berth
but fell in the Peach Bowl semifinal by one point to Georgia
Stroud has excelled everywhere and with the way he has the Texans playing
it would not be a shock if they are considered a dark horse team to hoist the Lombardi Trophy come February

Some experts predict the major development trend in the next 20 years will be “urbanizing the suburbs,” bringing density and mixed-use to underutilized commercial areas
has an ambitious suburban retrofit plan showing massive transformation potential
involved a large public outreach effort for residents and stakeholders—mostly virtual because it occurred during the pandemic
The suburban City of 175,000 people grew out of three small agricultural communities overrun by sprawl in the last 50 years
The Rancho Cucamonga plan shows what may happen in many large suburbs—vast single-family residential areas will likely see limited infill
most urbanizing occurs along corridors and at key urban centers
“The Preferred Alternative concentrated transformational change around the City’s major central corridors
with limited incremental change in established single-family neighborhoods,” according to the planners
The transformation is guided by new urban “Place types,” including City Center Corridor
Special urban design attention was given to eight “focus area plans” where more immediate development is expected
particularly along two major transit boulevards
“The City has received significant grant funding and established a tax increment financing district for City Center infrastructure and a TDM (transportation demand management) program,” Sargent says
The General Plan provides a toolkit of development options to help bridge the gap between developers used to the current system and the new regulations
This sprawl repair toolkit “illustrates step-by-step strategies for rebalancing the public realm in favor of pedestrians
human-scale public realm and walkable block structure into large vacant and previously developed parcels.”
explains what’s next: “Some of the things we will be working on through the implementation of our General Plan are improvements to our trail network
increasing transit opportunities and options for everyone within our city
and we want to make sure we are providing connectivity in the sense of neighborhoods in order for people to be able to reach all of the things they need in a close range and without getting in a vehicle.”
The plan has a 20-year horizon but sets a framework for development over the next 100 years

Two people were convicted on Friday of operating a maternity hotel in Rancho Cucamonga
which rented housing units and provided other services to pregnant women from China to give birth in Southern California in an industry known as "birth tourism"
The maternity hotel operated by Liu and Dong was in business for at least between 2012 and 2015
the two offered guidance to their clients — including tips on how to:
Liu and Dong received money from overseas and used that money to promote their scheme
Authorities said the pair charged tens of thousands of dollars for those services
The vast Chinese diaspora in the region has made Southern California one of the epicenters of Chinese birth tourism — where non-citizens travel to the U.S
to give their newborns birthright citizenship
the women and their babies leave the region shortly after childbirth
Liu and Dong are scheduled to be sentenced Dec

and up to 20 years in federal prison for each of the international money laundering charge

Print San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies shot and fatally wounded a man who fired at them outside a Rancho Cucamonga shopping center
Deputies were called to the shopping center around 9:30 p.m
Saturday after receiving reports of a man armed with a gun who was outside a Vons supermarket
Witnesses said that when deputies arrived at the scene
It’s unclear if the suspect was wounded during that exchange, but he then ran into a nearby Sprouts Farmers Market, authorities said. There, the Sheriff’s Department said, he was shot by deputies.
The department did not provide many details as to where and when he was struck, nor did it say whether the suspect fired any shots into or from inside the market.
Video from OnScene.TV showed a shattered glass door at the Sprouts and a sheriff’s deputy being taken from the scene in the back of an ambulance. The Sheriff’s Department said the deputy received “a superficial wound” during the shooting and was released from the hospital a short time later.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Davonte Sykes from Los Angeles. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital but later died from his injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Investigators believe that Sykes was involved in a separate shooting in Upland about an hour before the shooting in Rancho Cucamonga.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division at (909) 890-4904. Anonymous tips can be made to (800) 78-CRIME (2-7463).
