News
By John Kirkpatrick
George Randolph, who led Owensboro Catholic to decades of dominance in high school softball, was officially inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame on Sunday during a ceremony at the Central Bank Center Ballroom in Lexington.
The moment, Randolph said, was both humbling and unforgettable.
“It felt amazing,” Randolph said. “From the time we were notified to the video interviews, halftime recognition at the boys’ state semifinals, and then Sunday’s banquet — it was first class all the way.”
Randolph was joined by several of his family members. His granddaughter Aubrey was unable to attend due to attending the OT Sports Awards banquet, but Randolph said she was right where she needed to be — being honored for her own accomplishments.
Randolph’s coaching legacy spans 22 years at Owensboro Catholic, where he guided the Lady Aces to one slow-pitch state championship (1996) and five fast-pitch state titles (1998, 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2009). His teams also made four state runner-up finishes and won 17 regional championships — including a 13-year streak from 2001 to 2013 — and 16 district titles.
“Just being among all those amazing people — coaches, athletes, even legends who have passed — it was so special,” Randolph said. “It brought back so many memories. We went through old photos and newspaper clippings for the slideshow, and I was texting pictures to some of the former players. It was emotional and rewarding to relive those moments.”
Randolph retired in 2017, announcing it to his team after a state tournament game. He described those 22 seasons as going by in a flash.
“I never would’ve dreamed back in 1996 that it would turn out the way it did,” he said. “It’s humbling and I feel blessed to have experienced it all with the kids.”
He emphasized the collective nature of the recognition.
“This may be an individual award, but it was a group effort,” Randolph said. “I’m proud to accept it on behalf of Owensboro Catholic, our coaches, parents, fans, and most of all, the players. I’ve got one biological daughter, but I consider all of them my daughters.”
Randolph added that coaching was always a family commitment, noting the sacrifices made by his wife and children, especially during overlapping seasons.
“The most gratifying thing is the relationships,” he said. “That’s what coaching is about. We were a family.”
With the 2025 class, the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame now includes 529 inductees. Sunday’s ceremony included remarks by emcee Dave “Buzz” Baker and KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett, along with a slideshow and banquet meal for inductees and guests.
“It was an exciting weekend,” Randolph said. “The energy in that room, hearing the stories of other inductees — it was just incredible.”
Randolph still hangs out around Aces athletics. His impact on the program — and the lives he touched — continues to be felt.

Rep. Brian Biggs
wants the House and Senate to lay down what he calls some “clear guidance” to cities and counties about the handling of homeless encampments
House Bill 781 would ban them on public property by default
but it would allow cities and counties to designate certain properties for use by encampments for up to a year
The state Department of Health and Human Services would oversee this process
gaining the power to approve such designations and associated local plans for administering them
the city or county involved would have to certify that aren’t a sufficient number of shelter beds available for its homeless population
A prospective encampment can’t be next to residentially zoned property
nor can it “adversely or materially affect the property value or safety” on any residential or commercial property anywhere in the jurisdiction
A city or county’s plan has to address safety for all involved
including provisions for campers’ access to “clean and operable restrooms” along with running water
and enforce prohibitions on substance abuse
Local officials will also have to work with the county health department
specifically to ensure that campers have access to substance-abuse and mental-health treatment programs
DHHS would review all those aspects before approving the plan
and it would have continued oversight authority over its implementation
business owners and the state attorney general would also have standing to ask a judge for an injunction if the plan’s not being followed
Biggs said the one-year designation is renewable

His greatest gift was his capacity to be a generous and caring friend.”
Coleman championed new music throughout his career – launching concert series like Contemporary Focus and New Directions
he developed a set of eight rotating technical modules for first- and second-year composition students – an approach that emphasized peer learning and helped define Oberlin’s innovative spirit
His compositions were performed widely in the U.S

Multiple dance companies choreographed and performed his works
Coleman had a deep love for collaborative projects and worked on theatrical productions like The Oresteia and The Donner Party with director Herbert Blau and the experimental theatre company Kraken—whose members included Bill Irwin and Julie Taymor

(formerly the American Society of University Composers)
and held residencies at institutions across the globe—from the University of Michigan and Yale to the Doge Palace in Venice and the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio
Coleman studied at the University of Virginia and later earned graduate degrees from Northwestern University

"Randolph schools are not what they were when we moved here," Alley said
"Settling for the state average is not acceptable."

INDIANAPOLIS- As the Indiana State Senate adjourned for the year
Randolph (D-East Chicago) gave his thoughts on the budget of the General Assembly and the proposed diversity
equity and inclusion bill in light of the trend developing across the country to cut services for voters and efforts to eliminate African American historical contributions to this country
On the final day of the 2025 Legislative Session
Randolph was a vocal opponent of Senate Bill (SB) 289
which restricted who can apply for scholarships honoring late Senate colleagues
Randolph pointed out the contradictory nature of the bill
Randolph argued that the bill discriminated against 87 counties in this state all under the pretense of ‘fighting discrimination.’ The bill only allowed for students in five designated counties to be eligible to apply for the scholarships
“It just doesn’t make sense that the supermajority would pass a bill that discriminates against most of the counties in the state,” said Randolph
On HB 1001 (the budget bill) Randolph criticized not only the lack of bipartisan collaboration throughout the budget process
but the priorities of the supermajority in the face of a $2.4 billion budget shortfall
“I want voters to know that the supermajority was not working in their best interest,” said Randolph
“They have consistently put big-business and the ultra-wealthy ahead of property owners
Randolph took issue with the expansion of school choice vouchers
cuts to essential senior citizen services and extra barriers to parents seeking child care
I hope voters remember this moment,” said Randolph
while we Democrats continue pushing forward tirelessly fighting for the people of Indiana.”
