A center that will help address the needs of Raymondville ISD students and their families is soon opening
Students and their families will have direct access to a social services coordinator and specialist at the Raymondville ISD’s Resiliency Center to address mental health concerns
The Raymondville ISD’s Resiliency Center will be at the district's old LC Smith Elementary campus's cafeteria building
The district received a more than $500,000 grant from the Texas Education Agency to create the facility and the services offered
“Really supporting our families in what they need to be successful in school
but also in their household,” Raymondville ISD Deputy Superintendent Benjamin Clinton said
Parenting classes and a GED program will also be offered at the center
The services are only available to district students and their families
The district will be partnering with local organizations to help provide some of the services
LC Smith Elementary School Principal Camille Cavazos is the center's program director
“We are incredibly proud of the resiliency center
it's gonna bring a lot of hope to our community and empowerment
Cavazos said principals will help identify families that may benefit from the center
but doors are open to all students at the district
Some services will be available within the next two weeks
The center is expected to have its grand opening in June 2025
The Raymondville Independent School District Police Department was engaged in a vehicle pursuit of a suspect connected to a shooting on Friday
according to a Facebook post from Raymondville ISD
The district said the pursuit led to Las Casitas Los Olmos where the suspect was taken into custody; the shooting victim was transported to a hospital
School campuses activated safety protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff
An investigation is underway after a home was declared a loss following a Saturday fire
according to Raymondville Fire Chief Oscar Gutierrez
Crews with the Raymondville Fire Department responded to the house fire Saturday shortly after 8 p.m
“Fire crews managed to stop the fire
but not before the fire destroyed the majority of the house,” Gutierrez said
One of the teen boys was at the home at the time of the fire
“We were told he heard a pop outside and when he went to investigate
the front porch was on fire,” Gutierrez told Channel 5 News
and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross
A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of his husband
according to Raymondville police Detective Juan Treviño
was identified as the suspect in the death of his husband
identified as 70-year-old Emmanuel Alexander Lagpacan
Lagpacan was found dead at Amigos del Valle on Monday
An investigation led police to determine foul play
Vanegas was arrested on a capital murder charge and is set to go in front of a judge on Friday
Treviño said they will not be releasing the cause of death at this time
The intersection of FM 1834 and Emma Ross Road in Raymondville was temporarily shut down Tuesday due to zero visibility from a grass fire
The Raymondville Fire Department responded
and the intersection was reopened at about 3:30 p.m
A social media post from the Willacy County Sheriff's Office said the fire was creating "hazardous conditions."
The sheriff's office said no homes or buildings are in danger from the fire
and deputies are assisting with traffic control
