– A South Florida bird breeder is pleading for justice after he said thieves stole 300 parakeets and conures from his Redland property and fatally poisoned five dogs — four of his own and one belonging to a neighbor — during the heist

“The weight of the law should fall on these murderers,” said Michel Ojito
Surveillance video from just after midnight Wednesday shows a pickup truck arriving at his property
Four people were seen getting out and began searching for cameras
while another returned with an object to climb on and covered a lens with a bucket
the barking of Ojito’s dogs suddenly stopped
Ojito said when he woke up hours later and found the birds missing
he also discovered his dogs collapsed on the ground
He believes the thieves poisoned them to keep them quiet while carrying out the crime
said the killing of the dogs has been the hardest part
“He wants people to understand that the theft was bad enough
but his biggest concern is that they killed his dogs,” Alfonso said
And that’s the part he feels these people need to be held accountable for.”

Redland Angus works hard for the commercial producer
Owners Kendrick and Sharon Redland were both raised on commercial operations
providing them with vital knowledge about what commercial cattlemen value
Keeping an eye on the bottom line was “drilled into us as kids,” according to Kendrick
Their passion for providing the best possible cow on a least-cost basis has earned their genetics a reputation throughout the western states
“Our genetics seem to be getting a little more popular all the time as people discover them,” he said
Both Kendrick and Sharon are originally from the Worland area
“My family started in Ten Sleep and Sharon’s family in Hyattville,” said Redland
“We’re the first generation in the registered business.”
His journey into papered cattle began in 1978 when he was seeking to raise better bulls for his family’s commercial operation
“I’ve always had an interest in genetics
That’s how we gravitated toward the registered side.”
they were presented the opportunity to purchase their own base operation north of Worland
“Over the years we’ve been able to acquire additional ground to run our livestock on,” he said.
The Redland registered herd must overcome the challenges of climate in the Bighorn Basin
Redlands utilize the nearby Bighorn Mountains east of Ten Sleep for spring and summer grazing
so cattle must be adaptable to higher elevations.
“We’re finding genetics that’ll work in arid environment,” Redland said
Our two-year-old heifers calve out on a 13,000-acre BLM permit on the 20 of March
you find out who is going to make a cow and who isn’t
They get put to the test right off the bat.”
so the traits that make up low-maintenance
high-producing cattle are paramount.
They have got to get those calves up and take care of them by themselves because they have to do it on their own as much as possible,” Redland said.
Redlands did not always operate in this manner
but a near-tragedy necessitated change.
my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring
We had AI’ed the heifers and then she was diagnosed.” Doctors advised a stem cell transplant immediately
and there were only two locations in the country that would perform the treatment
They turned cows out and focused on Sharon’s battle with breast cancer.
“We used to do it how all registered outfits do it: calve early
It didn’t go with how we were raised
which was to turn cows out and let them calve on their own.”
By the time Sharon’s chemo and stem cell treatments were finished and they returned home
it was September of the same year.
We’d been talking about moving calving dates back
they started calving the bulk of their cows in June
“They truly range calved at that point
The heifers that were AI’ed prior to Sharon’s treatment became the spring calvers
the bulls born to that herd are sold in the January sale and the summer-born bulls are sold in the November sale
“That’s how that became two sales,” he said.
Sharon won her battle with breast cancer and is still actively operating the ranch.

They also market bred females on the November sale and may add females to the January sale in 2025
most of which were on the east side of the Bighorns
convinced them to have a sale in Sheridan until that sale barn closed
they host both sales at Buffalo Livestock in Buffalo
Redlands are less concerned with popular genetics and more focused what works
“Our genetics are probably different than the mainstream
and our cattle are quite a bit different than the mainstream,” he said
“Most of our bloodlines come from what was popular in the 1980s
The bulk of our genetics trace back to a guy by the name of Dale Davis in Montana
They’re probably not as big framed as most cattle
easy fleshing cattle that can make a living in arid environment.”
But we’ve got a customer over at Buffalo who sells their cattle on video
‘I have not had one buyer ask me what the numbers on my cattle are yet
They want to look at the cows they’re out of and what they look like
They want them deep and stout with a lot of meat on them.’ That’s what our cattle have
They’re deep and stout and they have a lot of meat,” Redland said.
“Our operation is based on type versus numbers.”
Redlands align their values with the ranchers they serve
“We were raised in the same environment we raise cattle under
but the cows don’t know that,” Redland said.

Top Photo: From left are Coach Jayson Hall
Redland Middle School7th grader Colton Cramer
his family and the heroes that helped save him after a medical emergency at the school in January received a standing ovation and round of applause at the Elmore County Board of Education meeting Monday
but with the help of quick response from PE teacher and Coach Jayson Hall
school nurse Kristen Wright performing CPR
and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Colton was able to be transported for treatment at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham
Colton had been playing basketball with his friends in the gym
At first his friends thought he was playing a joke
but the seriousness of the situation was quickly determined
Richard Dennis welcomed the Cramer family as well as Redland Middle School Principal Chad Walls
Coach Jayson Hall and Kristen Wright for very special recognition
and I have had situations that were extremely stressful
we have situations where there is an ambulance called to a school to transport a student
He was driving to Stanhope Elmore High School when he was first notified
I get the communication…I get a text from Chad,” Dennis said
I knew it was real.” Dennis said he had just pulled into the parking lot of SEHS when he answered the phone
I took the fastest route I could to get to Redland Middle School.”
Dennis said he wanted to give special recognition to Colton
“You scared a lot of people out there brother.”
Dennis said he was amazed at the response from both the staff and the medical personnel
including a LifeFlight Helicopter that landed at the school
Principal Walls then addressed the crowd and introduced two of the heroes from that memorable day
I got the call that day and started making my way down there
I could tell really quickly this was an emergency situation that I
There was a group of people that day that played a part in saving Colton’s life
substitute teacher that happened to be in the gym that day
an intern in the gym and it was her first day on the job
he said there were two primary people who stepped up
They were school Kristen Wright and Jayson Hall
Walls said many of people get trained in CPR
but not everyone has what it takes to step up and perform the procedure when it is actually needed
“Thank God we had two people that day that had not only been trained
to step up and do what needed to be done to save Colton’s life,” Walls said
They will always be heroes to the Redland community
You will always be heroes to these three people (Colton and his parents) standing up here.”
Officials have said that God was in the gym that day
and he worked through some amazing people to bring this story to a very happy
At the last regular Elmore Commission meeting Monday
commissioners heard from many area residents around Redland Road
the majority of which were again a new neighborhood called Laurel Ridge to be built in the area
The first phase of the neighborhood will bring 117 new homes in the first phase
The property is about 475 acres and is located near the intersection of Redland Road and Rifle Range Road near New Bingham Road
the plan is to add about 600 new houses on the large property
There were several concerns from some who spoke
who said they are concerned with uncontrolled growth
the school system and the additional pressure on utilities
Commission Chairman Bart Mercer spoke to the large audience prior to the speakers taking the podium
“We have received many emails in opposition to this Laurel Ridge Plat being approved,” Mercer said
“But I think it needs to be said that the commission has a set of subdivision regulations that a developer must follow before we can consider a plat for approval
Any changes in the powers that the commission has would have to be approved by the state legislature
We can’t just go in and make changes to the subdivision regulations that would give us more powers than we currently have within these regulations.”
He said one of the emails he received concerned how the development would impact the school system
But our subdivision regulations do not attempt to dictate how the Board of Education manages our school system
That is not something that we can legally take into consideration.”
Mercer stressed that the commission strongly supports the BOE
saying that Elmore was the first county in the state to share 25 percent of the internet sales tax
We understand that our Board of Education has to run a school system that has the lowest property tax in the state
I don’t want anyone to think that we have not heard your concerns
We are just very limited in our abilities.”
Residents then came forward and each had three minutes to speak
Speakers on the agenda included Bobbie Langley
Langley said she and her family moved to Redland from South Carolina two years ago
she served as a district representative on a county planning commission of “one of the fasted growing metropolitan areas in South Carolina.”
She continued “I understand Elmore County has no zoning
no ordinances and no long-range plan that I have uncovered.”
and now is the time to make a long-range plan for growth
She said that she feels most people want to retain a quiet existence as is possible
and spoke specifically on the new subdivision
will add to the problem that already exists
Bruce Taylor then addressed the commission
He questioned why a traffic study was not done
and asked if there is an improvement plan for Redland Road
While the Commission said they understand all of the concerns brought forward
there is an important part when it comes to the commission’s ability when it comes to future growth
“We can consider whether to approve or disapprove a plat based on what we are statutorily allowed to consider,” Commissioner Mercer said
“We do not have zoning ordinances like a municipality would have.”
Commissioner Dennis Hill serves District 3
which is the area where this new neighborhood is planned
“I have reached out to the developer and the builder for that subdivision
The homes out there are going to be anywhere from 2,100 to 3,000 square feet
they are not going to be low-income housing
Their plan is to have this subdivision built out in 12 years
They are planning on selling anywhere from 35 to 35 homes a year.”
Dennis said that he has talked to many people about Redland incorporating
the Commission was given limited home rule
The only powers that we have are what you the citizens give to us.”
Chief Operating Officer Richie Beyer explained that for this development
considering there is no zoning ordinance for the county
He said the commission is in a position where they must approve the development
“There have been efforts in the past to impose some type of ordinances or rules that would really limit private landowners property and their rights
In 2005 there was an effort by the county commission to create a comprehensive plan
When citizens realized that plan was going to include county ordinances
There was nobody in this room that was happy about that.”
Mercer said that the commission facilitated a vote that would have given the county limited self-governance rules
people in the county realized that those limited self-government rules gave the commission the ability to pass ordinances like a municipality would have
They could regulate how tall your grass is and multiple things.”
and a petition was presented with 4,000 signatures for the measure to be put back on a ballot for a county vote
do you as a citizen of Elmore County want those powers to be repealed
Do you want the commission to be stripped of those powers to be able to pass any ordinances like a municipality could
they overwhelmingly took away the commission’s ability to create such ordinances
Mercer said the Redland community could investigate incorporating and have its own abilities to carefully monitor what comes into that area
When the Laurel Ridge neighborhood plat came up for a vote
all Commissioners present voted in favor of accepting the Laurel Ridge Plan
Absent from the meeting was Commissioner Desirae Lewis Jackson

with more than 200 clashes in a single day
Ukraine's General Staff said on Facebook fighting had intensified particularly around the strategic city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region
where Ukrainian forces said they repelled 70 attacks over the course of Sunday
The town serves as a key transport hub and Russian forces are reportedly approaching from the east
The information could initially not be independently verified
Attempts by Russia to break through to the west into the neighbouring industrial area of Dnipropetrovsk have so far been repelled by Ukraine
Russia's air defence systems destroyed 26 Ukrainian drones overnight
TASS news agency reported on Monday citing Russia's defence ministry data
The attacks come despite ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States to broker a ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev
US President Donald Trump recently proposed an unconditional 30-day truce
a plan Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accepted
Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the offer
Putin has declared a unilateral 72-hour ceasefire to coincide with the annual Victory Parade on Moscow's Red Square to mark the end of World War II
The ceasefire is scheduled to start at midnight Wednesday-Thursday in Moscow and end at midnight Saturday-Sunday
Kiev has rejected the limited pause and demanded that the ceasefire be extended to 30 days
"The Russians are asking for a ceasefire on May 9 and are themselves firing at Ukraine every day
This is cynicism of the highest order," Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram on Sunday

– Paw Patrol Animal Rescue advocates recently found two puppies in Redland that need a new home and named them Goalie and Stanley
The foster-based rescue relies on volunteers to care for abandoned animals until someone who is 25 years old or older steps up to adopt
The nonprofit organization makes sure the pets are up to date on vaccinations
It increases to $650 for bonded pairs and decreases to $250 for seniors
Puppies require an additional $100 spay or neuter deposit that is refundable after providing proof that the procedure was done

13 for Ledys Garcia’s property in the 18500 block of Southwest 200th Street

crop fields and sub-tropical fruit groves – “all of which are reliant upon safe ground water.”
“Any contamination to the ground water or aquafer can have devastating impacts on health,” the arrest report states

was reported missing on Tuesday along with his Toyota Corolla
“burned from the waist down” and partially decomposed
along the side of the 23600 block of Southwest 227th Avenue
An autopsy on Friday revealed that Hernandez Augustin had been stabbed several times
A Miami-Dade police officer spotted the Corolla on Sunday along the 12000 block of South Dixie Highway in the Goulds area
but he took off and led officers on a pursuit that ended after he blew a red light at Southwest 137th Avenue and hit another vehicle; its passengers suffered minor injuries
Authorities said Perez ran off from the crash scene and he was eventually taken into custody at Hidalgo’s Cafe-Restaurant
in a “self-serving statement,” told detectives that Hernandez Augustin had picked him up from his home on Tuesday
Authorities said they found Hernandez Augustin’s identification and bank cards in Perez’s wallet
They said Perez admitted to making several purchases using Hernandez Augustin’s Wells Fargo card
Police said Perez gave them consent to search his cellphone and found photos taken from inside the Corolla that “depicted bloodstained rear seats
bank cards and the victim’s identification card.”
they said Perez had a photograph of his palm showing multiple cuts; he was unable to explain how they got there
revealing a substantial amount of blood in the rear seats and multiple pairs of blue latex gloves
which (were) consistent with ones left on the scene where the victim was found,” the report states
The report doesn’t state how or whether the men knew each other or a motive for the killing
Perez was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center
Photo: AP PHOTOIsrael has approved plans to capture the entire Gaza Strip and remain in the territory for an unspecified amount of time
the move would vastly expand Israel's operations in the Palestinian territory and likely bring fierce international opposition
Israeli cabinet ministers approved the plan in an early morning vote on Monday
hours after the Israeli military chief said the army was calling up tens of thousands of reserve soldiers
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March
which the officials said was meant to help Israel achieve its war aims of defeating Hamas and freeing hostages held in Gaza
also would push hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza
in what would likely exacerbate an already dire humanitarian crisis
Since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in mid-March
Israel has unleashed fierce strikes on the territory that have killed hundreds
It has captured swathes of territory and now controls roughly 50 per cent of Gaza
Israel halted all humanitarian aid into Gaza
setting off what is believed to be the worst humanitarian crisis in nearly 19 months of war
The ban on aid has prompted widespread hunger and shortages have set off looting
The Israeli officials said the plan included the "capturing of the strip and the holding of territories"
The plan would also seek to prevent the militant Hamas group from distributing humanitarian aid
which Israel says strengthens the group's rule in Gaza
The plan also included powerful strikes against Hamas targets
A ban on humanitarian aid entering Gaza has led to widespread hunger among residents
(AP PHOTO)The officials said Israel was in touch with several countries about US President Donald Trump's plan to take over Gaza and relocate its population
under what Israel has termed "voluntary emigration"
yet which has sparked condemnations from Israel's allies in Europe and the Arab world
One of the officials said the plan would be implemented gradually
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing military plans
According to an internal memo circulated among aid groups and seen by The Associated Press
Israel told the United Nations it will use private security companies to control aid distribution in Gaza
said it would not participate in the plan as presented to it
detailed notes from a meeting between the Israeli defence body in charge of co-ordinating aid to Gaza - COGAT - and the UN
all aid will enter Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing
letting approximately 60 trucks enter daily and distributing 20 kilograms of aid parcels directly to people on the day of entry
The memo said the aid will be distributed at logistics hubs
which will be run by private security companies
The fighting has displaced more than 90 per cent of Gaza's population
and turned Gaza into an uninhabitable moonscape
Israel's offensive has killed more than 52,000 people in Gaza
(AP PHOTO)The UN said the plan would leave large parts of the population
It said the plan "appears designed to reinforce control over life-sustaining items as a pressure tactic - as part of a military strategy"
Israeli strikes across Gaza continued overnight
killing at least 17 people in northern Gaza
The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel
killing 1200 people and taking about 250 hostages
Israel's offensive has killed more than 52,000 people in Gaza
