901 El Camino Real rounded corner feature over Franklin Street
The 102-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 469,500 square feet
with 305,230 square feet for office space and 164,240 square feet within the three-level basement garage
Additional floor space will be set aside for a 6,600 square foot teen center multipurpose space
The master plan includes a 4,000 square foot public open space
across from the proposed Redwood City Caltrain Transit Center
HGA Architects is responsible for the architecture
The facade features a mix of articulation to visually reduce the perception of scale
Exterior materials will include the terracotta rainscreen
901 El Camino Real urban activity labelled
The development team is also expected to donate the property at 920 Shasta Street to the affordable housing developer
Plans were approved in the same meeting this week for the 100-unit complex designed by David Baker Architects
The 1.6-acre property is located along El Camino Real across from the future Caltrain Transit Center, the Broadway Street retail center, and the existing Sequoia Station strip mall. Plans to bring a high-density mixed-use neighborhood to the latter site with six structures appeared likely to materialize after the $73 million acquisition by Los Angeles-based developer Lowe
Demolition will be expected for the existing Auto Zone store
Construction is expected to last around 28 months from groundbreaking to completion

“As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities
we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth,” said Justin Higgs

Bloomberg first reported the cuts, saying they affected between 300 and 400 people, citing a person familiar with the cuts.
The layoffs are the latest to hit Electronic Arts, which had about 13,700 employees as of March 2024.
The company in 2024 said it would cut about 5% of its workforce after announcing a similar cut a year earlier.

The company said in a statement this week on social media that it “made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.”
“These decisions are not easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected,” Respawn said in the statement.

– Men's Rowing officially opened its spring 2025 racing schedule with two regattas this weekend as both varsity eight crews racing at the Redwood Shores Invitational and the California Challenge Cup
with Santa Clara coming across the line at 6:10.3
"I'm proud of the guys for this hard-fought victory," said head coach Bart Thompson
"We were dead even entering the bridge at the halfway point
but the guys dug in and made a great move in the second half of the race to win by a bit of open water
and have every reason to feel pride in their performance in this race."
In Saturday's second race, the crew – the same group of rowers, but with Nick Lee swapping into the coxswain seat – dropped a race to Cal's 4V8+ in much windier conditions
The Toreros finished in 6:34.4 behind the Golden Bears' 6:18.7
coming across the line in 6:30.3 against the Cardinal's 6:04.5
"Our opponents on Saturday and Sunday are two of the top 5
top 10 programs in the country," Thompson remarked
"We learned a bit more about ourselves in those races
in particular our need to be able to internally hold to the standards that we set for ourselves every day."
the single-day race in Newport was a resounding success
The regatta features a shorter-than-usual 1400-meter course
and all the entries race three times within about three hours
An hour later, USD, with Conor Fox coming into the coxswain's seat, and Max Salem coming into the race lineup
dispatched UC Irvine in relatively comfortable fashion
The Toreros' two victories set them up to face UCLA for the California Waypoint Challenge Cup in the third race of the day
finishing in 4:22.2 compared to the Bruins' 4:25.1
"This is a group that has come a very long way in the past few weeks," said Thompson
"They've been finding more speed and developing a much better rhythm and flow
and it's awesome to see that growth rewarded with a victory today
Hopefully we will build on this excellent day of racing and continue to take big strides as we prepare for the Crew Classic."
The Toreros have a fixture against USC next on March 21 on Otay Lake in Chula Vista
before racing at home on Mission Bay for the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday

Bears Sweep 13 Races At Cal/Stanford Invitational

The Cal men’s rowing team finished a weekend of races at Redwood Shores unscathed — across 13 duals

The Cal men’s rowing team finished a weekend of races at Redwood Shores unscathed
Oregon State and Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday
“(It was) another really positive step as we build through the spring season and use these races to get ready for the bigger ones coming at us,” said Cal men’s head coach Scott Frandsen
“The crews all progressed well through the weekend and we got to take a look at some different combinations … so
The weekend’s success was a whole-team affair for the Bears in Redwood City
as six boats — with 48 unique rowers — got the chance to match up against their opponents
Frandsen made sure his guys got their reps in
with some octets racing three times across the weekend
Saturday morning saw the blue and gold’s first and second varsity boats kick the undefeated weekend off with a pair of easy victories over the Badgers
The freshmen shined in their early heat against Oregon State’s 1V
posting a time of 5:42.8 — over 12 seconds faster than their best time last weekend in San Diego
Also facing the Beavers in the morning was the Cal 4V
which vanquished its rodent opponents with a 9.5 second margin-of-victory — dam(n)
The Bears picked up two more wins as their 3V and 5V boats comfortably did away with the challengers from Santa Clara
the Broncos finished with the same exact time in both races: 6:14.3
the youngest Cal contingent continued its torrid pace
The freshmen outpaced their teammates in the 4V and reached the finish line even faster than they had just hours prior
The 1V’s race against Santa Clara and the 3V’s against Wisconsin weren’t particularly close
with the former ending in an incredible 31.3 second margin and the latter an 18.3 second margin victory
the Bears’ 2V raced nobody — as the Broncos failed to start — and still achieved a 5:42.7 time
Sunday brought Cal four more easy victories
with each boat except for the first and second varsity squads racing their third time down the course
but there’s still lots of work left to do and a lot of speed left to find,” Frandsen said
“We can take some confidence from early races
but it’s very much right back to work and focused on races later in the year.”
Stanford and Washington — arguably the Bears’ two biggest rivals on the water — also competed in the invitational
The Huskies and the Cardinal will challenge the mighty Bear squad in a few weeks
with the Cal-UW Dual slated for April 26 and the Big Row on May 3
Frandsen knows his team’s next challenge will be facing Brown and Yale this upcoming weekend after what has already been a grueling stretch of back-to-back weeks of external competition
“They’re going to be some pretty good races
Yale has been really quick in recent years and Brown showed some really good speed in Florida a couple weeks ago,” Frandsen said
While the men face off against the pair of Ivy League crews
the Cal women’s rowing team will welcome Virginia and Syracuse in the Bears’ home opener
Stay tuned — the docks will be busy and the competition will be fierce
