— We're learning more about what led to a deadly shooting in Reisterstown back in June 2024
It all began just before 6:30 am on June 9 when officers were called to conduct a welfare check in the 200 block of Hammershire Road
The 911 caller told police that a person was lying in the parking lot between two cars

Charging documents say that Nunez was in possession of Apple Airpods
there were multiple 9mm casings close to Nunez's body
Police notified Nunez's family of his death and found out he should have been wearing black men's Under Armour shoes and been in possession of an iPhone
Investigators later learned that Nunez worked at Noodles and Company and should have left around 11:45 p.m
Detectives tracked Nunez's movement through interviews and surveillance and found that he left Noodles & Company around 11:46 pm and walked to a nearby Taco Bell
detectives saw a dark-colored sedan had just arrived in the parking lot

The vehicle circled the lot and later parked behind a business adjacent to the Taco Bell
Nunez left the restaurant and got on an MTA bus and was followed by the vehicle
He was last seen on camera walking on Hammershire Road
close to where his body was found hours later
As Nunez was seen leaving the camera's view
the dark-colored sedan was seen pulling out from a nearby CVS and driving on Hammershire Road
multiple people were seen running from the car to Hammershire Road and then back to the car
Footage from the MTA bus confirmed Nunez had a blue backpack
and black Under Armour shoes when he got off the bus
but they were not in his possession when he was discovered
Investigators also found that at the time of his murder
including a Glock with a "distinct" red backplate that had writing on it
officers learned that Mehki Brown was arrested at Franklin High School after he was found in possession of a weapon

Brown was struggling with the School Resource Officer
which were found to be black Under Armour shoes identical to the ones Nunez was wearing
Brown also had a white Apple iPhone and a yellow sweatshirt that read "Free the Hood," which was confirmed to belong to Nunez
looked through Brown's iPad and noted he sent messages to multiple people around 2:30 a.m
on June 9 as if something major had happened
Brown took a picture of a handgun magazine just 15 miles from where the shooting occurred
"I needed you last night.""I can't say s*** ova text on sum reall a** s***."
Investigators also found that Brown sent out messages indicating that he wanted to "hit a lick" and needed to find a "bippy."
More photos on Brown's iPad showed him wearing Nunez's sweatshirt and Under Armour shoes
He was also seen posing with the Glock handgun with the red rear plate
Brown is currently being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center and is charged with first-degree murder
The Baltimore-based Tide Realty Capital buys and redevelops distressed commercial assets: the unloved

the plaza’s high-profile tenants over the years included the now-defunct Hecht’s department store
The Hechinger Company home improvement shop and Shoe City
the plaza’s tenant base dwindled and faded
Vacancies rose; upgrades and maintenance needs fell behind
The first phase of the remodel will overhaul the main entrance of the mall and buff up the exterior
They hope to score more high-profile occupants — they’ve got their fingers crossed for a Home Goods
for instance — and bring the complex back to life
“It’s kind of depressing,” Loeb said about the mall’s interior
“We’re going to make it a place where people can come and gather.”
Loeb and Tide Realty operations director Yanky Schorr said the property
though something of an operations “dumpster fire” when they purchased it
spoke to them because of its Northwest Baltimore history
The duo said they harbored fond memories of shopping at the plaza as kids with their families and aim to bring it into the 21st century
Others also seem to have fond memories: Facebook groups, including “Reisterstown Road Plaza - Northwest Baltimore in the 60s and 70s,” have drawn nearly 3,000 members since 2008
Modernizing it could mean using the blueprint of Maple Lawn in Howard County or Metro Center in Owings Mills
retailers and other services commingle on a sprawling campus
“Everyone has a plaza story,” Loeb said, including the Baltimore Orioles’ principal owner, David Rubenstein, who grew up nearby
A nearby overhaul of the Pimlico Race Course and Pikesville Armory could also provide a boost to the plaza over time, Loeb said. Data shows that Baltimore homes located near shopping centers sell quicker
Wes Moore’s administration contributed $1 million for the plaza’s renovation
which Loeb perceives as an endorsement of the vision
from the state’s Reinvest Baltimore initiative
is meant to help turn “vacant and deteriorating” properties into green space
Tide Realty worked with Comprehensive Housing Assistance Inc.
The real estate company’s portfolio includes Metro Square in Owings Mills
a mostly vacant shopping complex in the shadow of a Target store
and Alameda Marketplace in Northeast Baltimore
Loeb said the team gravitates toward commercial projects that can be “transformational” for communities
and they see unique opportunity at the plaza
They hope a future tenant mix will include options that bring people together and can offer family-friendly activities
too — current renderings show space for an indoor trampoline park
hosted Mayor Brandon Scott for its grand opening last month
As for the complex’s recognizable “P” branding
Loeb said he’s open to keeping it — as long as the community is on board
this is the most important project right now in Northwest Baltimore,” he said
These projects take a lot of hard work and a lot of grit.”

Officers responded to the intersection of Main Street and Glyndon Drive in Reisterstown around 3 p.m

Perhaps they had used the tool to scrape a deer hide
But the earth soon claimed the tool and held it hidden as the centuries passed and waves of people settled nearby
The tool lay buried until this past October, when a group of volunteers, under the guidance of Zachary Singer, state terrestrial archaeologist for the Maryland Historical Trust, excavated an ancient quarry on what are now the grounds of St
Western Run Episcopal Church in Reisterstown
“It’s the first formal stone tool found at the site.”
Singer was looking for the remains of quarries from which the nomadic Clovis people dug chalcedony
who were once scattered across what is now the United States
Singer and a team of 50 volunteers embarked on the painstaking work of digging up and examining the contents of a grid of 56 “shovel test pits” near the church
Three of the pits yielded distinctive fragments of chalcedony
indicating that ancient people had operated a quarry there
“This hints at how much more there could be to find,” Singer said
Retired nurse Rebecca Boykin said it was thrilling to help with the dig
Boykin helped find a large shard of chalcedony shortly after arriving to volunteer
“It does put things in perspective,” said Boykin
reflecting on the history buried around the grounds of the church she has attended for 20 years
was discovered by accident in 2001 when archaeologists from the State Highway Administration checked the land in preparation for a project to move the intersection of Butler Road and Piney Grove Road
The archaeologists were shocked to uncover hundreds of fragments of chalcedony
ranging from slivers as small as a fingernail to fist-sized chunks
The fragments were clearly produced by human hands using the distinctive techniques of the Clovis people
are all that remain of the Clovis people of the East Coast
because the region’s acidic soils absorbed their bones
Archaeologists have had more luck studying the Clovis people in the dry
The group’s name comes from Clovis, New Mexico
where a young amateur archaeologist found a spear point among mastodon bones in 1929
Anthropologists believe that the Clovis people crossed a land bridge between Siberia and Alaska and then proceeded south into the Americas
Although they were among the first humans to live on this continent
another group had arrived about 20,000 years earlier
has not been washed and has been minimally handled
He hopes scientists will be able to study patterns of wear on the tool to determine whether it was used to smooth hide
Singer also plans to send the tool to a lab that could search for fragments of protein
Singer said he was still analyzing the objects found at Piney Grove in October
but that he hopes to return to do more field work there
“We narrowed down another area to look and investigate further,” he said
In the meantime, he’s gearing up for another archaeology project that will incorporate volunteers: a 17th-century home in Charles County

According to the Baltimore Fire Department
a fire was reported in three vacant buildings
prompting a second alarm to be called at noon
The fire has since been brought under control

the restaurant officially became The Grill at Harryman House
Worthington didn't give a reason for the closing
but he didn't hesitate to thank the community for its support

REISTERTOWN — A 65-year-old man from Reisterstown has been missing for several weeks
and his family is turning to the public for help in locating him
who was last seen at his home on January 31st
has left his loved ones searching for answers
drove over an hour to the WMAR-2 News station
hoping to get the word out to the community and gather any information that could help find her father

“We’re running into roadblocks trying to figure out where he could’ve gone,” Breana told WMAR 2 News
but his daughter says they have heard nothing from him and are becoming increasingly worried
so we would’ve been on the phone talking about baseball this coming season,” said Breana

Carl has been missing for nearly three weeks
as Carl’s disappearance is completely out of character
“Me and my family are very concerned because this is not normal—not hearing from him for such a long period of time,” said Breana
Carl has not been to work at the Kohl’s warehouse in Edgewood
and his weekly Friday morning fellowship has also been missed
“They told us that they had last seen him at work
which was on the 18th of January,” said Breana
adding that the situation has left the family feeling stuck with no leads
Breana explained that her father often took public transportation and frequented local spots such as Wegmans and CAVA on Reisterstown Road
He was also known to spend time at the local library
utilizing its resources or simply enjoying the space
Breana says there were no significant mental or physical health issues that she was aware of
She spoke to her father just a week before his disappearance
making his sudden vanishing all the more concerning
I would love for everybody to share,” Breana said

and it dissolved other objects of their daily lives
Clues to the lives of Clovis people are more easily found in the western states

Learning about hunter-gatherers from studying stone chippings is a bit like studying modern humans by looking at the sweepings from a factory floor
But archaeologists can glean a lot of information from these fragments
Singer has recently studied Clovis sites in Cumberland and Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg
near the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
Singer said he’s particularly excited about Piney Grove
because the artifacts sit just two feet below the surface and have never been disturbed by a plow
While previous digs have uncovered jasper tools
Singer hopes to find chalcedony blades from the era in which the chippings were made
perhaps an arrowhead that broke and was discarded
there’s no way to know what lies beneath the soil
“The hard thing with archaeology,” Singer said
“is we never know what we’re going to find.”
Officers said the shooting happened around 12:25 p.m
That's located in a neighborhood of single-family homes
Authorities said they found the victim with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity
"The victim in this case continues to recover," Baltimore County Police Department spokesperson Detective Trae Corbin told Patch in a Wednesday afternoon email
Officers said they detained the suspect on Tuesday and announced the following day that they arrested him
Authorities declined to answer Patch's questions on the age and gender of the victim
They also declined to identify the suspect

Final tweaks to the plan are set to go before the Baltimore Department of Planning in July
though financing is still being worked out

including: addressing a statewide shortage of housing units; getting riders back onboard a train that has struggled to rebound since the pandemic; and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through denser development
It would be one of the largest transit-oriented development sites in Maryland

and inclusive growth for all who live and work around the Reisterstown Plaza transit station,” Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said in an emailed release
retail and other uses located within walking distance of transit hubs such as train stations
Urbanists and transit boosters see it as critical to creating vibrant communities where residents don’t have to rely on cars to run errands

The complex is growing — planned construction would create nearly 1,000 more housing units
Baltimore is seeking to catch up with Washington
where new development has typically sprouted up near newly opened Metro stations in the suburbs
Not everyone is sold on TODs — in Baltimore County
opponents of a proposal to build apartments next to the Lutherville light rail station argue it would tax local resources by packing too many students into schools and clogging local roads
Some residents have fought efforts to rezone the area to allow for apartments
But the state is bullish on transit-oriented development
particularly around Baltimore Metro’s 15.5-mile
More than 170 acres of land surrounding Metro stops are at the disposal of state officials
and Reisterstown Plaza already has the zoning the plan requires
state lawmakers passed an ambitious trio of bills designed to remedy Maryland’s housing deficit
which it estimates to be as large as 96,000 units
One component of the package allows developers to add more units than current zoning allows if they are built near transit stations
the state’s secretary of housing and community development
said in a written statement that his agency “supports MDOT’s commitment to advancing Transit Oriented Development.”
“The vision for Reisterstown’s Plaza Metro Subway station aligns with our ongoing discussions to encourage development in areas where we want it
to address our state’s housing shortage,” he said
“By focusing development near transit hubs
the state can not only expand housing options but also foster vibrant communities that enhance economic growth and accessibility for all Marylanders.”
Day said previously he considers the bill package “incredibly meaningful” for the future of housing in Maryland and was surprised at the reception that it received from lawmakers

Some longtime Metro riders have been dismayed by service cuts like last year’s shutdown; some have felt less safe
