There's a new ice cream cone coming to Dallas-Fort Worth which appeared on Shark Tank: Called Crispy Cones
it's an innovative concept that places as much attention on the cone as it does the ice cream
and will open its first DFW-area location in North Richland Hills
the entrepreneur and franchisee who's bringing the concept to town
Crispy Cones was founded in 2018 by Jeremy Carlson
who encountered "chimney cake"-style cones during a mission trip to the Czech Republic
he began selling them from a road-side tent in Utah
which led to brick-and-mortar ice cream shops called Crispy Cones
he and his wife Kaitlyn pitched their concept on the TV show Shark Tank
where they received a stake from investor Barbara Corcoran
Crispy Cones are unlike any other ice cream cone on the market
The company rotisserie-grills a dough to create a cone that's soft and fluffy
versus the usual crisp cone you get at a typical ice cream stand
The process involves wrapping the dough around a rod
then baking it over a heating element until it turns golden brown
It gets crispy on the outside but soft on the inside
and then you can choose a "spread," which serves as a lining for the ice cream; options include Nutella
In addition to their traditional cone flavor
they do a rotating seasonal such as raspberry
The ice cream is soft-serve in choice of vanilla
or seasonal flavor such as pistachio or cookie dough
You can get toppings like chopped up Heath bars
You can also get cones and pints of ice cream to go
The company currently has nine stores open in the U.S
including a second location in the DFW area in Southlake which Tamana plans to open in July
There’s a new Nashville chicken restaurant now open in Mansfield: Called 2 Neighbors Southern Chicken
it opened in March in the Broad Street Shopping Center at 2751 E
where it's serving an authentic version from a family with first-hand knowledge
Owner Carlonda Marshall is a native of Nashville who's getting some backup from her mother
"We grew up on Nashville fried chicken
that would be our Friday night meal," Marshall says
Mansfield is a second location: Marshall opened the first 2 Neighbors in 2017 in Cedar Hill, before relocating to the Grow DeSoto Market Place in 2020, where it’s still open today. (They also briefly opened a burgers and shakes concept next door in the marketplace
The new Mansfield location has fast-casual service
Fans can buy hats and T-shirts with the restaurant's design
The menu at Mansfield is similar to DeSoto location but with a bigger focus on Southern fried chicken
Customers can get plain fried chicken or the spicier Nashville-style
Prices range from $8.50 for nuggets to $14 for catfish & fries
The only thing they're not doing at Mansfield is sandwiches
a twist on the classic Kentucky butter cake
a moist pound cake with a butter and sugar syrup and a vanilla glazed crust
The center where they're located has a healthy mix of shops and restaurants. They took over a space that was previously occupied by another chicken place called Chick'n Cone
now closed; but Marshall is upbeat about the area
"Just looking in the Mansfield area and seeing all the growth there
we decided it’s kind of booming over there,” she says
"We're so busy in Mansfield right now
we're getting a lot of walk-in traffic."

shouting at his father as he made a beeline for playscape called “Granny Pig’s Garden.” A life-sized pig welcomed him in a British accent
while the child rolled around in turf made to look like rabbit burrows
The whole scene played out at the brand new Peppa Pig Theme Park
which aims to bring young kids and their families in North Richland Hills

Merlin Entertainments operates other attractions in the area
including the Legoland Discovery Center and Sea Life Aquarium in Grapevine
plus the Peppa Pig World of Play in the Grapevine Mills shopping mall
After the success of Peppa Pig World of Play
building a theme park around the long-running cartoon in the Dallas-Fort Worth area made sense
Like the British cartoon on which it’s based
the park is geared toward preschool-age kids
Counting and reading exercises line the waiting areas for rides
and nothing is too big or scary for young ones
“To create memories for all our families that bring their children
And we just want to be accessible to everyone.”
The park is also a Certified Autism Center by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards
This means that each ride has informational signs
and there’s a quiet room with tools available to children with autism and their parents
the park publishes accessibility and sensory guides to help families navigate the park comfortably
has enough speed to excite children — and keep their parents entertained — but not so much as to be frightening
and kids taller than 42 inches can ride alone
an important note as the ride may be too tight a squeeze for some parents; even this 5-foot-1 reporter felt quite cramped
Each attraction in the park offers something different
from the soaring Peppa Pig’s Balloon Ride ― a cross between a merry-go-round and a Ferris wheel ― to Grampy Rabbit’s Dinosaur Adventure
a prehistoric departure from a 14-acre sea of mostly farm animals
Peppa Pig and her brother George came out for a meet-and-greet at the arena
Four-year-old Blair Frohman was a bit nervous to meet Peppa after watching her show and reading her books
George and the park staff sang happy birthday to her 1-year-old brother
“It’s kind of like a Six Flags for little kids
And I really think that it’s a big attraction for North Richland Hills that’s going to draw in people with families and younger kids,” said Blair’s mom
Mayor Jack McCarty said the park may helps North Richland Hills serve a demographic that has been underserved: families with really young children
and the difficulty of finding age-appropriate places to take them
is looking to fill that gap with a variety of attractions
such as an adventure park and Peppa Pig’s neighbor
The city is in talks to pursue a “dual-ticketing relationship” between the two locales
NRH2O receives around 250,000 guests in the 4 ½ months a year it’s open
according to McCarty; he estimated Peppa’s arrival could attract more than triple that
“The bigger parks are really targeting the older ages
“I love that [Peppa Pig Theme Park] is marketing the Dallas-Fort Worth area
because it’ll pull a lot of visitors here.”
is to attract young families to the community
According to economic development director Craig Hulse
the addition of young families to a city feeds schools
youth sports leagues and other avenues that facilitate a city’s growth
The new attraction “just puts us on the map,” Hulse said
I think it’s going to add another focus on our community and what we have to offer

There's a new Japanese restaurant in North Richland Hills that's ready to bring it fast and good: Called JAL Japanese Express
it’s a fast-casual style restaurant that opened in January in a former poke shop at 8850 N
JAL Japanese Express is from husband-and-wife Jonny and Linda Tran
first-time restaurateurs who've already established a reputation for their fast
making JAL a good choice for diners seeking authentic Japanese food to-go — exactly the kind of restaurant that pretty much every suburban neighborhood wants
as well as sashimi and nigiri sushi; plus hibachi dishes such as steak
and tofu; plus poke bowls; plus udon noodle soup
Appetizers range from classics like tempura to a fun twist on the usual "poppers" featuring a deep-fried jalapeno stuffed with a combination of spicy tuna & cream cheese
They even offer dessert including tempura cheesecake and mochi ice cream
with the ice cream rolled in soft chewy mochi dough
ranging from $2.50 for a soup or salad to $60 for a family-style shared “Love Boat” package with 12 sushi rolls
The hibachi platters are a popular choice: For about $13 to $14
There are plans to serve alcohol including wine
but they're still waiting for their permit
who is Linda's cousin and speaks on the couple's behalf
they chose to open the restaurant in North Richland Hills because it seemed like a good fit for their needs
"It was an opportunity when we found a place that was available," Daisy says
"After seeing what people liked in North Richland Hills
It's a growing community and a great location."
If you've ever wanted to own Dairy Queen furniture
Two dozen Dairy Queen restaurants across Texas are closing
and the stores' furnishings are on the auction block
Online auction website localauctions.com is currently selling the "complete contents" of 24 Dairy Queen locations to the highest bidder with the auctions closing on Thursday
"Multiple Dairy Queen locations are closing their doors and must liquidate the assets," the website says
"Bid on a large variety of restaurant assets and related items that need to be removed from the location."
Included in the list is the Dairy Queen at 5441 Rufe Snow Dr
While Google still shows the location as open
a user review on February 13 says the store was closed when they visited
"Went last night for ice cream and they were closed
Sad for the local community," the reviewer writes
Two other stores in North Texas are also listed: the Dairy Queen at 1509 Corsicana Highway in Hillsboro; and a location in Farmers Branch
The remaining 22 stores are spread throughout the state
with the majority located in small towns in East Texas and the Panhandle
A company spokesperson told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that 25 restaurants across the Texas Panhandle
and West Texas/South Plains region have closed
The auction closes on February 20 and items must be removed by end of the day on Sunday
Any item not removed from the shuttered restaurant will be considered forfeited
and IT equipment are excluded from the auction

Dallas-Fort Worth's most famous drone name is aiming to break a world record: Sky Elements Drone Shows
the Coppell-based company known for its ground-breaking light shows rendered via drones
will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for “Longest animation performed by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles”
In cooperation with the City of North Richland Hills
the company will fly its annual flagship Christmas drone show
this year featuring 2,500 drones orchestrated to create holiday images and themes such as Santa Clauses and "Merry Christmas."
The current record to beat is 26:26 minutes in the air and was set by a Chinese company in Shenzhen
UPDATE 12-20-2024: Sky Elements broke the Guinness World Record on December 20
for “Longest Animation Performed by UAVs or Drones,” with 2,500 drones telling a Christmas story in the sky
set at 26 minutes and 26 seconds by a Chinese company in Shenzhen
was surpassed by Sky Elements’ 30-minute drone show._______________________________
Sky Elements is no stranger to Guinness World Records; they are already an 11-time Guiness World Record holder. Mere days ago, they set a new Guinness World Record title for "largest aerial display of a gingerbread village made out of drones" — a festive display that was part of a holiday drone show in Mansfield on November 27
They are nothing if not dedicated. In September, they were a finalist on national TV show America’s Got Talent
They've produced drone shows for the MLB, NFL, NCAA sports, film premieres, the State Fair of Texas
They are also on the forefront of an admirable transition away from fireworks being deployed during holidays and events
Fireworks are harmful to wildlife as well as people with sensory issues
The big show will take place on December 20 at 7 pm
at Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex at 9200 Mid Cities Blvd
Spectators are invited to arrive in their cars to witness this incredible drone show from the comfort of their vehicles
The audience can tune their radio stations to 88.9 FM and listen along as they tell a story in the sky
Many liken the event to a drive-in movie experience
and spectators are encouraged to bring snacks

Shriners members in one of their little parades
One of the last-gasp circuses that still uses animals for "entertainment" is coming through North Richland Hills
and there's a welcoming committee waiting
It's the Shrine Circus and it's stopping from November 8-10 at the NYTEX Sports Centre
a behind-the-times facility that has yet to get with the majority of venues and communities who've banned traveling acts that use animals
a group of animal advocates will protest outside the center during the circus' run
Owned by brothers Frank Trazzera and Salvatore Trazzera
NYTEX is ordinarily home to the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League
Brahmas in the North American 3 Hockey League
Shriners are a fraternal organization known for parades
and fund-raising ads on local TV stations that feature hospitalized children with cleft palates and more
Although Shriners claim to be dedicated to compassion and service
Shrine circuses routinely work with notoriously cruel exhibitors such as the Carson & Barnes Circus
and has a long history of animal abuse including more than 100 violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act
Video footage of a veteran trainer shows him instructing trainers to sink bullhooks into elephants’ flesh and twist them until the animals scream
Shriners also present themselves as an organization whose circus events benefit children
But ticket sales aren’t charitable donations: The profits are used to maintain the club’s premises and fund its activities
Not all Shrine circuses still use animals: The Western Montana Shrine Circus ended wild-animal acts
and Shrine circuses in Canada haven’t used wild animals in years

A small Saturday evening fire at Gateway Church in North Richland is the fourth church fire in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in three weeks
but fire officials believe all were unrelated
North Richland Hills public information officer

A family-owned cafe is serving Mexican eats and coffee in North Richland Hills: Called White Rock Cafe
in a former event space called Eventfully Yours
Not to be confused with White Rock Coffee or White Rock Lake
White Rock Cafe is named after a location in Oaxaca
Mexico — Rosa Blanca — and the ancestral hometown of sisters Jenny and Stephanie Pantoja
who own the restaurant with their cousin Kevin Nazario
"It's where my father grew up," Jenny says
But she and her sister and her cousin all grew up in NRH
“We decided to open in North Richland Hills because even though we live on the edge of Fort Worth
we kind of grew up here and are familiar with the people," Jenny says
“That’s why we decided this would be the perfect community to open a breakfast place.”
Their menu ranges from Mexican breakfast to comfort food to burgers and chicken-fried steak
There are all your bacon-and-egg-and-pancake combos with choice of potatoes or grits
featuring an English muffin topped with grilled red onions
They also have a coffee program including brewed coffee
including a daily special with dishes like chicken fried steak and pot roast with two sides and Texas toast for only $8
There's a perfect California club with crisp bacon
for $10; and that DFW classic combo of grilled cheese sandwich served with tomato-basil soup
Jenny works in a surgery program most days when she’s not at the restaurant
She got her start working at a breakfast restaurant and grew to appreciate the hours and the culture
inspiring her and her family to open this breakfast cafe of their own
with black vinyl booths and a lovely mural on the wall that summons the Mexican area for which it is named
“My father used to work at a Cracker Barrel and other breakfast places
then he had the dream of opening his own place,” Jenny says
