Longtime fans of Parker’s Table (7118 Oakland) will soon have a new place to sit and stay awhile: The Yale Bar (7120 Oakland)
“I’ve always liked the idea of creating a neighborhood place where people can drop in
and come and go as they please,” says owner Jonathan Parker
Louis Dining In and Dining Out newsletters to stay up-to-date on the local restaurant and culinary scene
The idea of adding a wine bar has been a long time in the making
“This was always the plan,” says Parker
The space was a legal office for the past 11 years
the 800-square-foot space had been used to assemble holiday gift baskets for Parker’s Table
renovation and construction began in earnest
The interior now features an off-white color scheme
chosen by Parker to create a clean and fresh look that highlights the original artwork displayed on the walls
“I have artist friends who need wall space
and this place is already set up for it,” he previously told SLM
“Guests can enjoy the art while they’re here—and buy it if they like it.” Each piece includes a QR code linking to information about the artist and the artwork
Most of the displayed works are whimsical pieces by local artist Sam Melendez
many with ties to the neighborhood—including depictions of the nearby AMOCO sign
One notable image shows a senior with a handwritten caption: “I’m here for a good time
not a long time.” Parker says the quote could serve as the unofficial motto of The Yale Bar.A self-proclaimed scrounger
Parker has a story for nearly every item in the place
The bar top was crafted by renowned woodworker Dave Stine from an ash tree Parker had cut down in Illinois
The copper sheets on the front of the bar came from a roofer’s supply house
“They weren’t oxidized like that when I got them,” Parker says with a smile
The eclectic furnishings include ladder-back chairs from a Pentecostal church in Tennessee and rustic wood-and-leather bucket chairs that Parker sourced from Facebook Marketplace
The burled English walnut-topped tables once sat in the rathskeller of a Ritz-Carlton before making their way to a local coffee shop—then
Other salvaged details abound: leftover slate from a chalkboard next door
off-white tile rescued from a bathroom in Compton Heights… The list goes on
with additional tables on the sidewalk in good weather
It will serve wine and a small selection of beer but no hard liquor
guests can choose from a rotating list of about a dozen wines
Parker plans to feature limited-quantity selections—“a few bottles here
a few cases there”—to help keep prices affordable
Half a dozen hot and cold snacks will be prepped in the Parker’s Table kitchen and finished on-site at the wine bar
dishes will be moving from one back door to the other,” says Parker
plus other favorites that are typically found in Parker’s Table’s grab-and-go case
who describes The Yale Bar experience as an apericena—a blend of Italy’s traditional aperitivo and a light dinner (cena)
Parking should not be an issue: In addition to street parking
Parker’s has access to the garage next door at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital beginning at 5 p.m.The opening date has yet to be determined
pending the selection of a wine-savvy general manager
“Four nights a week for a few hours a night,” Parker says
Those who know Parker might describe him as the consummate shopkeeper. As SLM contributor Jenny Agnew once put it
punctuated by long pauses that were never awkward
Parker is like that favorite college professor who stays well after class because students want to hear more
After an ill-fated attempt to open Delmar Farm & Food (which included a farmers’ market
he purchased a building in Richmond Heights that had been a post office in the late 1920s
The reimagined Parker’s Table in Richmond Heights became a mecca for wine
Renowned chef Steven Caravelli (an alum of Chez Leon
and Euclid Hospitality Group) operates the kitchen
which serves up charcuterie and lunch items
In 2022, Yelp named Parker’s Table “the best cheese shop in Missouri,” an accolade based on user ratings. “We really do pride ourselves on a high level of individual customer service,” cheesemonger Phil Billingsley told the Riverfront Times at the time
It’s a sentiment that Parker still echoes: “A lot of the credit has to go to the staff
who feel empowered enough to take ownership in this place.”
Now, The Yale Bar completes Jonathan Parker’s revitalization plan. “You have Parker’s Table at the corner of Oakland and Yale, where you can pick up a large selection of food and drink to take home,” he says. “You have The Oakland Room, where you can invite all your friends to a party in your own private room, and now The Yale Bar, where you can grab a glass or two of wine and a snack. I’ve always thought that those should be the three legs of the stool.”

Ohio (WOIO) - The man accused of fatally shooting a 25-year-old woman Tuesday was found dead early Wednesday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound
Multiple police officers had been searching for Shamar Summeral since the murder in Richmond Heights Tuesday evening
Mayfield Heights Police posted on Facebook that Summeral was found deceased and was no longer a danger to the public
“It’s been a busy night for our officers and dispatchers,” posted Mayfield Heights Police
Richmond Heights Police said Summeral shot Mariah Symone Sanders in the 400 block of Richmond Park East Dr
the Euclid woman was found dead in the rear of the building near the parking lot
Police said her 8-month-old baby was found in a stroller near the victim but was not injured
witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing from the scene toward an apartment building in the 440 block of Richmond Park East
Police evacuated some of the apartment’s residents for safety until it was confirmed the suspect was not inside
and the manhunt for Summeral lasted several hours
Richmond Heights Police Chief Calvin Williams said the victim and suspect did know each other
but no further information has been released
CANTON — Mistakes were made by the Canton Central Catholic boys basketball team Wednesday night
Then Matt Creamer the realist offered some perspective
"That thoroughbred horse just gets by you somedays," the veteran Central coach said
The Richmond Heights Spartans were off to the races in this Division V regional semifinal at Memorial Field House
and the breakneck speed eventually wore down the Crusaders in a 77-59 loss
Central led more than it trailed in the first half and was within two points early in the third quarter when Lance Vlacovsky splashed a 3-pointer
But that turned out to be the only 3-point hit for the Crusaders in the quarter
as they missed their next eight shots from the arc and scored only six more points before the fourth
the Spartans led 63-48 and a gassed Central bunch
which won its first three tournament games by an average of 34 points
"Their speed and overall quickness made us hurry up," Creamer said
"They get into you a little bit defensively
"That game on Saturday is going to be a whale of a game."
Richmond Heights (17-9) will take on Lutheran East (22-4) — a 64-56 winner against Norwayne in Wednesday's first semifinal
Richmond Heights won the last three Division IV state championships
while Lutheran East won three of the last four Division III state championships
Senior Luke Vlacovsky scored a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds and three assists for Central (18-7)
which was playing in its third straight regional tournament
scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds
Part of Central's strategy Wednesday was leaving Richmond Heights freshman Mekhi Ansberry by his lonesome on the perimeter so 6-foot-8
310-pound Jonathan Stangl or another Central defender could stay back and clog the lane
but Ansberry ultimately made Central pay for the gamble
took advantage of driving angles and scored a game-high 22 points
All those points came in the first three quarters
"I was just surprised I was so open at the beginning of the game," said Ansberry
who wasn't yet a varsity starter back on Dec
13 when Richmond Heights won 87-56 at Central
"That's why it took me a little bit to get going
Richmond Heights coach Quentin Rogers didn't seem too surprised by Ansberry handling the moment
He works on his game on his own," Rogers said
Each of Richmond Heights' starters scored in double figures Wednesday
scored 17 points to go with seven rebounds
He hit four fourth-quarter 3-pointers to put Central away
— a UTEP recruit and the engine that drives Richmond Heights — totaled 14 points
Seniors Joey Emory and Demarris Winters added 11 and 10 points
Don't mistake the Spartans' pace as reckless
as evidenced by their 14-of-30 3-point shooting Wednesday
"Our patience on offense is what makes us real hard to guard," Rogers said
Richmond Height has now won its four tournament games by 86
Central led by as many as six points with 3:42 left in the second quarter
But that lead was erased in 30 seconds as Barber completed a 4-point play and scored on a layup
which was 7-of-27 from the floor in the second half
Creamer had to say goodbye to four seniors: the older Vlacovsky
Easton Miller (seven points Wednesday) and Braylwyn Tabellion
Vlacovsky will leave with more than 1,300 career points
trailing only Kevin Finefrock in Central history
Creamer kept his emotions in check until he talked about the texts he received in recent days from former players and how much it means to him when they come to games and stop by the locker room after
"And we'll see each of these seniors next year
I'll see Luke coming in the locker room after games

LOUISVILLE — At some point in the final 30 seconds of a hotly contested boys basketball game Friday night
Louisville coach Tom Siegfried shed his sportscoat on the sideline
"Everybody thought I was trying to get down and dirty," Siegfried said
Richmond Heights can apply some serious heat
The Leopards proved they were cool enough to handle it
Louisville was strong with the ball and strong on the boards in pulling out a 64-62 win against the three-time defending state champion Spartans in a Scholastic Play By Play game hosted by the Leopards
The victory runs Louisville's winning streak to seven games
which includes an overtime win against defending Division II state champion Kettering Alter on Jan
Beating a team the caliber of Richmond Heights might top that for Division III Louisville (12-4)
Richmond Heights (8-8) won its state championships in Division IV and now finds itself in Division V in the OHSAA's expanded format
athleticism and experience to compete in just about any division
"It's as big as any other win we've had," Louisville senior Brayden Gross said
"Coming down to the wire against a team like that just prepares us for the tournament and what we're going to be facing
Gross led the way with a game-high 22 points
making enough free throws in the fourth quarter
to go with eight rebounds and three assists
The 6-foot-7 Walsh University recruit made 10 of 14 free throws overall on the night
But it takes a collective effort to beat a team such as Richmond Heights
Senior point guard Beau Siegfried finished with 11 points and four assists
the Ashland University recruit did the heavy lifting when it came to handling Richmond Heights' defensive pressure
"I thought he was the difference handling the ball," Tom Siegfried said about his son
I've watched some national teams get stymied by that
I was really proud of him orchestrating our offense and being a true point guard."
Louisville committed only eight turnovers on the night
Senior forward Tate Aljancic totaled 12 points
eight rebounds and five assists for the Leopards
a 3-pointer from the right wing with 30 seconds left that broke a 60-60 tie
Barber raced the other way and drove quickly for a bucket to make it a one-point game
After Gross split a pair of free throws with 13.4 seconds left
Ohio State recruit Dorian Jones missed a deep 3 for the Spartans and Louisville senior Ashton Marshall dug out the long rebound to basically seal the game
Marshall scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds
part of Louisville's massive 30-13 edge on the boards
Senior Devin Bailey added seven points and five rebounds
"They're well-coached and well-balanced," Richmond Heights coach Quentin Rogers said about the Leopards
Barber scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead Richmond Heights
while the 6-5 Jones added 13 and Demaris Winters Jr
Rogers pointed to a sloppy stretch of the third quarter by his Spartans and Louisville winning the majority of the 50/50 balls as keys
He also didn't like the tone that was set by his seniors failing to be on time for shootaround earlier Friday
Louisville led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter
but Richmond Heights took its first lead at 30-29 when Winters hit a jumper just before the half
The Leopards led by as many as six points in the third quarter before things got tight again in the fourth
Although the Spartans took a one-point lead with 2:01 left on a Winters 3-ball
Louisville never allowed them to rip off a knockout blow kind of run
'I hope you guys are hydrated because here it comes,'" Tom Siegfried said
"I know what they do when it's down to the nitty gritty
just taking care of the ball late in the game was key for us."

(First Alert 4) - The Heights Community Center in Richmond Heights reopened Sunday following a bedbug problem
The Heights said in a Facebook post that on Thursday afternoon bedbugs were found in the lifeguard office in the aquatic center
The center posted on social media on Saturday that exterminators have completed an assessment of the facility and are using heat and chemical treatments
the facility announced it would be reopening on Sunday
two companies that specialize in pest control thoroughly assessed the facility
and the entire building was treated,” the facility said in a Facebook post
“Pest control specialists confirmed there is no more evidence of bed bugs.”
The closure postponed Saturday’s popular Nerf Wars
an event where participants fire molded foam “bullets” at each other
The issue was first reported on Friday by the center
which said the only affected area was the aquatic center and the facility would be closed until exterminators could complete their work
The Heights is a community center and memorial library that offers indoor aquatics
It is managed by the PARC (Parks and Recreation Cooperative) which serves the communities of Brentwood

was found guilty Wednesday of robbing an ATM technician in South Euclid
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Adam Ferrise, cleveland.comCLEVELAND
Ohio — A jury on Wednesday found a Richmond Heights man guilty of robbing an ATM technician at gunpoint and stealing $126,000 from the machine outside a South Euclid bank
was part of a group that stuck a gun to the back of the technician’s head in a robbery that took 33 seconds
The jury in federal court in Cleveland deliberated about two hours before finding Travis guilty of armed bank robbery and aiding and abetting the use of a gun during a violent crime
16 at the machine outside the Chase Bank on Cedar Road
who testified at trial he had been working on the machine for about 40 minutes trying to fix the device that accepts and distributes cash
He said he had just called his company’s tech support when the robbers rushed him
One grabbed his shoulder and put a gun to the back of his head while both demanded cash
The technician testified he could feel the weight of the gun on his head
“More or less I wanted to cooperate and was praying to God I could see tomorrow,” he testified
Investigators linked Travis to the robbery because at the time he wore a GPS-monitored ankle bracelet
a court-ordered device stemming from his conviction for an attempted robbery of a man in Cleveland
Prosecutors argued during the trial that the GPS coordinates put Travis at the scene of the robbery
The coordinates also matched up with traffic camera recordings that tracked the car the robbers used to drive to and from the bank
She said investigators found a handgun with an extended magazine inside Travis’ apartment that matched the gun used in the robbery and a notebook in which Travis listed “ways to make money” that included “rob people/maybe
Investigators later found the two stolen containers of cash inside the apartment of the girlfriend of Travis’ friend
The serial numbers matched the bills that were stolen
The monitors of both Travis and his friend showed they were together hours after the robbery
Travis after his arrest told investigators several stories
including that he was inside the car used in the robbery but was asleep the entire time and didn’t know the other people in the car
Baeppler told the jury that because the two armed robbers were wearing masks
they couldn’t say for certain whether Travis was the gunman or a second robber who helped pilfer the containers full of cash
Authorities have not arrested the second robber or the getaway driver
argued to the jury that the GPS trackers weren’t as effective as prosecutors said and that there was no direct evidence linking Travis to the crime
He said that Travis’ face isn’t seen in any of the videos shown by prosecutors and that police and FBI agents failed to investigate several other suspects
