Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton adds to an outcry of government officials after union leaders announced the number of cuts proposed by federal leaders at The Department of Government Efficiency
Union leaders confirmed the proposed cuts in April
Stratton, who also announced her bid to fill Dick Durbin’s senate seat promised to do everything she can in her current role as Lt
“The threats from Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE to cut over 400 jobs at the Rock Island Arsenal are reprehensible
These are Illinoisans who play a vital role in our national defense and are essential to the Quad Cities economy
all in the name of appeasing the vanity projects of Trump’s billionaire stooge
“Hundreds of families will be left with nowhere to go and nothing to fall back on-- families who’ve built their lives around this work
and poured their lives into serving our country from the Arsenal
As Chair of the Military Economic Development Committee
I will do everything in my power to defend the dignity of these workers
The Pritzker-Stratton administration is ready to fight back and protect them as they’ve so dutifully protected us.”
Stratton joins a bipartisan group of lawmakers from Illinois and Iowa who have tried to convince federal leaders to back off of cuts to the Arsenal

ROCK ISLAND – Sterling pitcher Lily Martinez hopes to quickly move on from Tuesday’s 10-0 Western Big 6 Conference loss at Rock Island
The Golden Warriors are facing two of the top teams in the conference this week
and it will take a better showing Thursday against United Township (12-7 overall
7-2 Big 6) if the team wants to stay in the conference race
6-2) was out-hit 13-2 on Tuesday as Lilly McDaniel pitched a five-inning shutout with four strikeouts and one walk for the Rocks (14-6
The Rocks out-slugged Sterling with five doubles
a triple and an Ella Leahy inside-the-park home run
“They’re a really good hitting team,” Martinez said
but there’s stuff I definitely could work on
My changeups haven’t been working really well
so I think that’s one thing I do need to work on.”
It is also hard to win a game with just two hits
Martinez just missed a home run that turned out to be a double for Sterling’s only extra base hit
and Ella DeJonghe had a diving catch to rob Marley Sechrest of at least a double
I think we just need to keep a good mindset in the box,” Martinez said
“I feel like if a couple people we rely on aren’t hitting
“Everybody needs to do their job in the box as much as possible.”
Making the right cutoff throws is another aspect she hopes the team can improve
“This wasn’t our best game,” Martinez said
“but we’ve got to push it aside and think about the next game coming up.”
McDaniel said her pitching placement was key to shutting out a Sterling lineup that is capable of big innings
“I was just really focusing on hitting that outside corner
especially with their feet very close to the line,” she said
“Trying to get that inside pitch right at their belt.”
The game still was within reach for Sterling with a 3-0 deficit after three innings
But the Rocks pulled away in the fourth and fifth
and scored at least one run in all five innings
The Rocks also scored on a passed ball and took advantage of four Sterling errors
“I think we did a great job as a team,” Lincoln said
I think we just took our time and took a deep breath
It looks to be a four-team race for the conference as RI
Geneseo and Sterling all have one or two losses in Big 6 play
“I think we’re really excited just to see how the rest of conference goes,” Lincoln said
“Still take it game by game and then look forward to postseason.”

Quad-City Times file photo of Redrick Terry
Redrick Terry will resign from his position as Rock Island-Milan's Communications Director in June after roughly one year with the district
alleging district leaders are disrespectful and have created a toxic workplace
Former school board president Terell Williams sent a letter to Rock Island-Milan Superintendent Sharon Williams in response to Terry's resignation
inquiring about a plan to address concerns regarding district culture
Terry cites numerous reasons behind this decision
including what he describes as a "toxic workplace environment" fostered by new district leaders
I did so with intent on staying here for the long-term
perhaps even to the point of retirement," he wrote in his April 14 resignation letter
it has become clear that my initial plan will not be feasible under the current working conditions."
Terry said there is a resounding and "somewhat appalling" lack of general respect throughout Rock Island-Milan's Administration Center building
"Mostly observed between the Executive Leadership Team and the rest of the administrators and staff throughout the district," he said
disrespect and overall unprofessional behavior over this last year."
The Quad-City Times/Dispatch-Argus gave Superintendent Williams an opportunity to respond to these claims and other recent public comments regarding staff turnover
we want to sincerely thank him for his service and contributions during his time with (Rock Island-Milan schools,)" she said in an April 29 emailed statement
"We appreciate his efforts and the impact he had (as) the director of communications
We wish him nothing but the best as he moves forward in his career
We hope his next chapter brings him success
fulfillment and new opportunities for growth."
Her statement did not address the allegations of a lack of respect and poor workplace environment
Terry said his experience with Rock Island-Milan wasn't all negative
that he learned about himself and was "extremely humbled" to work for the district where he went to school
Due to a lack of communication and "no periods of review" for his job performance
Terry said he's unsure if he "lived up to the (required) standards" of his position
it felt like those standards changed on an all-too-frequent basis," he said
I am proud of several accomplishments throughout my time here."
Terry's final day with Rock Island-Milan will be Wednesday
He said he's willing to assist the district in getting through end-of-year events and making the transition "as smooth as possible."
he said there have been "whispers and red flags" about issues within Rock Island-Milan's Administrative Center all year long
"And while the board has continued to support your leadership
"Especially coming from someone who grew up in our district and was seen as one of our own."
How Terry described his experience in the work environment and with the executive leadership team should "stop all of us in our tracks," Terell Williams said
"This goes beyond a simple resignation — it reads like a warning
it confirms some of the things people have been hesitant to say out loud," he wrote
"We can't afford to brush this off or treat it as just someone who wasn't a good fit
If this is how people are feeling behind closed doors
we need to take a hard look at what's happening internally."
he asked what the district's plan is for addressing these culture concerns
Terry's resignation was formally approved at last Tuesday's school board meeting

(KWQC) - A house fire broke out early Monday morning in Rock Island
sending firefighters to the 3200 block of 35th Street just after midnight
noticed what he initially thought was a large bonfire
he realized that a fire had started in the garage of a house
Morrissey expressed how happy he was to be in the right place at the right time
“It’s just really fortunate that I just happened to be home once that had just started going off
like I had stopped somewhere or done something else
just good timing that I just got there when I got home when I did.”
Morrissey kept knocking until the woman finally woke up
He said she was in shock when she answered the door
but he managed to help her and her dog get outside to safety before calling 911
And so I think that didn’t really spread through the rest of the house or anything
I can get in touch with her later and check on her,” Morrissey added
KWQC crews were at the scene just after 1 a.m
where firefighters were working to extinguish the fire
Firefighters and EMS were along the whole block
while crews broke down walls looking for any trapped fire
