A signed receipt signifying the city of Roswell's acceptance of a gift of bitcoin sent by an anonymous out-of-state reader to establish the Roswell Strategic (Bitcoin) Reserve
publicly viewable by anyone using a blockchain explorer online
at press time Friday revealed 18 anonymous transactions have been sent to fund the Roswell reserve
gifts which will be held for 10 years while the value presumably increases
The receipt was signed by Mayor Pro Tem Juliana Halvorson on Tuesday at the Roswell Daily Record office
Over $5,000 in BTC donated to hold 10 years: Designated for disaster fund and seniors
becoming the first municipal entity in the world to offer a physical receipt for a bitcoin donation
Mayor Pro Tem Juliana Halvorson ceremonially signed the receipt Tuesday evening at the office of the Roswell Daily Record
recognizing the Roswell Strategic Reserve and Bitcoin Emergency Fund
The signed receipt makes Roswell the first municipality to accept a bitcoin donation and to offer a tax-deductible receipt for contributions that exceed a fair market value of $250
The groundwork for the reserve was laid in January through a donation from an individual who read a column in the Daily Record about Roswell possibly establishing such a bitcoin reserve
The reader then sent the column's author a donation of $3,000 in bitcoin value to make the idea a reality
which City Councilor Cristina Arnold began investigating processes by which the city might be able to accept the donation
conferring with finance committee member Councilor Ed Heldenbrand
Tuesday's actions received worldwide attention from the “bitcoiner” community
It was preceded Monday by a post on the Bitcoin News social media account that featured a photo of one of Roswell’s welcome signs with an orange bitcoin logo added to the graphic
A post made by Bitcoin Magazine on Tuesday of a photo of the signed document received more than 1,000 reposts
as well as over 4,000 likes and more than 200 comments
bringing the reserve's value to over $5,200 as of press time
up from $2,906 when Halvorson signed the receipt Tuesday
City Attorney Hess Yntema told the Daily Record in an email that under New Mexico law
municipalities can acquire real and personal property
“Personal property is broad and includes tangible and intangible assets; this would include Bitcoin
The City is always grateful when a donation is made to further the public good,” Yntema wrote
the receipt for the reserve also contains a provision to accept “U.S
The receipt states that the bitcoin and all donations will be held for 10 years and then used for stipends to cover a portion of the water bills of Roswell senior citizens based on the amount of continuing donations and any increased value of the reserve
If the reserve ever accrues more than $1 million
it could be used as a liquid emergency fund for up to 21% of its value for declared disaster relief
pending a vote of unanimous support from the Roswell City Council
That option can only be exercised once every five years
Halvorson told the Daily Record she was initially not on board with the idea of the reserve due to bitcoin's price volatility
she became supportive after learning that no taxpayer funds or city resources would be diverted into it
which will place Roswell on the map for bitcoiners
“What an amazing step forward for the future," Heldenbrand said Monday in a text message to the Daily Record
The reserve address's activity is viewable online for Roswell citizens and anyone with the link to see
showing at press time 18 total transactions of received bitcoin
For those with bitcoin apps considering a donation to the Roswell reserve
the receipt signed by Halvorson also includes a QR code for receiving bitcoin as well as the typed version of the city’s bitcoin address:

There was a reopening ceremony on Friday morning to recognize the efforts made by a large group of city of employees to reopen the Roswell Visitor Center
The building received significant damage as a result of the October 2024 severe storm and flooding
the center resumed operations in mid-April after clean up
is shown reading a document explaining the structure's history
place in the community and as a place to welcome visitors
The workers standing behind Halvorson are from the city's Facilities Maintenance Team

Cost was $8,000 and completed the tasks using mostly items on hand to make the structure usable and relevant once more
The aliens who reside at the center were keeping a low profile but are still visible within the photo
Roswell City Council and Mayor invited to Bitcoin 2025 after an anonymous donation online seeded a Bitcoin Reserve
The Bitcoin Conference 2025 in Las Vegas, scheduled for the last week of May, includes several notable political figures slated as speakers, including returning guest and Bitcoin advocate Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY). Also appearing are Trump’s so-called “A.I. and Crypto Czar,” David Sacks, and Bo Hines
the “Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets at the White House.”
JUST IN: 🇺🇸 City of Roswell, New Mexico sets up a strategic #Bitcoin reserve. pic.twitter.com/yhKgKbwsfV
Roswell is home to a few things you might not expect — world-renowned dairy farming and one of the world’s largest mozzarella cheese factories; aerospace and aviation industries with a famous “aircraft graveyard” which once housed Elvis Presley’s personal small plane, “Hound Dog II,” for 35 years; a vibrant arts, museums and cultural scene — but also a thriving tourism industry
largely built around what Roswell is really known for: flying saucers
But Roswell is really known worldwide for the 1947 “UFO incident.” In early July 1947
a presumably once-flying object of unknown origin crashed and was destroyed
recovered later and brought to the now-defunct Roswell Army Air Field’s 509th
still housing the United States’ only nuclear bombs at the time as well as the U.S.’s only pilots
Speculation still rages as to whether the recovered craft and its alleged pilot and passengers — reports of oddly shaped bodies persist but are highly debated still — were from a supposed extraterrestrial location, or the result of a U.S. military experiment.
family-owned since 1891 and still in print today
reported the headline seen around the world:
RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell Region
according to the city’s website in 2023 “… had a $510,205 direct economic impact for Roswell …” in a lockdowns-recovery rebuilding year for the event(s)
Roswell by and large and the newspaper alike is today home to many oddities, myself included. A Nashville transplant with an odd missionary calling
last year the Record took me in as their in-house evening copy editor — with a desk
(I’m told the desks are from the WWII army air base
And through it all, I didn’t even get fired. Yet. But being in the bitcoin news industry and seeing the trend, in January I proposed a strategic bitcoin reserve for Roswell
since the city received a $3,000 in bitcoin donation from an anonymous out-of-state reader of the newspaper column
with or without government “approval” or bitcoin media industry recognition
I have a confirmed blockchain transaction from January 3
that says the Roswell Strategic Bitcoin Reserve has been established
Who custodies and manages it is still up for grabs
But OK, the idea is currently being mulled over by some city councilors who’ve given me the time of day, as I want to give the donation to the city as our start, and look for personal and corporate sponsorships from there (so as not to create any new expenses or taxes for the city). We’re struggling
While the city council can of course be a tough nut
and bitcoin is new and bewildering to many still
Roswell City Attorney Hess Yntema kindly replied to me recently via email
municipalities are empowered to acquire real and personal property
… Personal property is broad and includes tangible and intangible assets; this would include Bitcoin
The City is always grateful when a donation is made to further the public good.”
To help with the decision-making process perhaps
I’m grateful to report that Bitcoin Magazine has extended an invitation to all 10 members of the Roswell City Council plus Mayor Timothy Jennings to attend the event whether the council approves the custody and management of a city-held bitcoin reserve or not
Mayor Jennings’ office replied graciously that he would be unable to attend on those dates
while at press time at least one other city councilor
has committed to be “thinking about it.” City Councilor Ed Heldenbrand and City Attorney Hess Yntema are
excited to be ushering in Roswell’s next step
for posterity’s sake if not their generation: “… a great step for the future,” Heldenbrand said in a text message
The Roswell City Council next meets on Thursday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m. Mountain time, with meetings livestreamed over YouTube
where whether the topic of the proposed donation will be discussed remains unknown at press time
have scheduled a meeting with myself and Hess this week to discuss “the procedure for accepting the Bitcoin,” according to a group text message from my ward’s councilor organizing the meetup.
“…Trying to front-run the market to ensure New Mexico remains a rich state,” State Sen. Anthony Thornton (R-NM, Dist. 19) presented a strategic reserve bill
Asked for additional comment this week about “why” a bitcoin reserve
Thornton responded to me in written detail: “I do believe that as our debt based fiat currency (i.e.
dollar) continues to be debased by the Fed central bankers
more sovereign governments will decide to store their wealth in assets that cannot be produced by a printing press… hence commodities such as gold and silver will continue to rise in value.
the scarcity of Bitcoin and its digital mobility will likely make it the one asset utilized by the entire world as the best place to store one’s long-term capital.”
It’s not at all surprising that denizens of Roswell might still be among the first in the nation to respond to bitcoin’s siren song
calling out around the world to Earth’s more intelligent life forms for 16 years now.
Roswellians — accustomed as they now are to random new technologies of mysterious origin appearing from the sky and disrupting all social order
industry and established financial infrastructures — might just have an unfair advantage over others in “grokking” bitcoin because of such an “incident” already being a part of their collective psyche.
Readers interested in learning more about bitcoin firsthand may eerily find themselves being drawn to Las Vegas this May to attend the Las Vegas Bitcoin Conference 2025’s two-day conference lineup
plus additional events throughout the week

Exactly what a new facet of downtown Roswell could look like
City of Roswell officials have unveiled renderings and site plans that detail the reimagined Hill Street Mixed-Use Development across the street from City Hall. Project backers describe it as a “first-class… key gateway” and example of smart placemaking that will ease a downtown parking crunch and help keep tax rates down, while providing a new commercial and residential dimension to the growing
which include an adaptive-reuse component alongside new construction
were presented during Monday’s mayor and city council meeting.
The overall design for Hill Street calls for blending “traditional forms with clean
utilizing materials like painted brick paired with oversized windows and welcoming porches,” per a city description
“Native landscaping and gathering spaces [will] emphasize community connection
balancing modern energy with Southern warmth.”
The city council in December signed an agreement with Atlanta-based Atlantic Companies to develop the Hill Street project.
An earlier Hill Street multifamily development plan gained city approval in 2019
but Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson in 2022 helped lead a redesign that cut back on residential density while expanding the project’s commercial footprint
Today’s Hill Street designs call for up to 143 multifamily apartments alongside 14 for-sale townhomes
That would reduce density to 24 units per acre from the originally approved 74 units per acre
plans for commercial space have been beefed up from about 10,000 to 80,000 square feet for restaurants
and office tenants. The city also plans to build 485 parking spaces—in a new deck and on surface streets—for residents
a central and key Hill Street component would be an open-air
public plaza and more inviting streetscapes intended for gatherings and better connectivity.
approved unanimously by Roswell leaders on Monday
calls for the city to retain ownership of the Hill Street land through a ground lease
while also owning and operating the new parking options—both intended to be steady sources of revenue.
More design reviews and public discussions are planned as the project moves through required approval stages.

As per the document shared by the Bitcoin Magazine on X
Roswell received the "first seed" donation of 3,050,323 satoshis (about 0.0305 BTC) anonymously on Jan
The donation was worth $3,000 at that time
The donation got transferred to The City of Roswell's officials' custody on Apr
29 via the newly created "Roswell Strategic Reserve & Bitcoin Emergency Fund."
signed by Roswell Juliana Halvorson and a certified Bitcoin professional named Guy Malone
mentions that the fund shall accrue Bitcoin donations and sponsorships and hold them for at least 10 years
Its proceeds may be used to alleviate up to 100% of the water bills of all senior citizens in Roswell
Once the minimum value of the Bitcoin fund reaches $1 million
it may serve as a "liquid emergency fund" for up to 21% of its value per five years for any declared disaster relief
once the Roswell City Council gives its unanimous approval for the same
conditional on the approval of the City Council
Roswell is well-known for alleged recovery of a UFO in 1947 that was later found out to be military debris
Note that the state of New Mexico also saw the introduction of a senate bill
called the “Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act,” by Senator Anthony Thornton on Feb 4
The bill proposes allocating 5% of the public funds to Bitcoin
Such moves are part of the broader shift in the U.S. around President Donald Trump signing an executive order on March 6 to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve and a digital asset stockpile
As per Kraken's price feed
Bitcoin was trading at $93,424.27 at press time
and the total crypto market stood above $3 trillion.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Today, on a call with officials from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), nurses from teams across Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center learned that they earned a prestigious distinction: Magnet® Recognition for nursing excellence
The designation follows an in-depth review by the ANCC
and signifies that Roswell Park nurses have met stringent standards for nursing excellence in patient care delivery.
Roswell Park is among only about 10 percent of U.S
hospitals that have ever achieved Magnet recognition
“We deliver exceptional care thanks to the remarkable talent and dedication of the professionals who make up the Roswell Park nursing team,” says Andrew Storer, PhD, DNP, RN, NP-C, FAANP
Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer
“Roswell Park nurses set the benchmark for excellence in nursing
and this prestigious designation highlights how our team continues to stand out among the best in the nation.”
“You did it!” Roswell Park President and CEO Candace S. Johnson, PhD
told the nurses gathered for the call with ANCC
“I am ecstatic and honored that our nurses have received such a distinction,” she notes
“Magnet status helps patients identify hospitals where they’ll receive the best care and affirms the high quality of the nursing care that our incredible Roswell Park team has consistently provided.”
Magnet designation is a results-driven recognition that highlights the role nurses play as part of an interprofessional team focused on improving patient outcomes
Research shows that Magnet-recognized organizations demonstrate better patient outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.
“The Roswell Park nursing team has once again given our community reason to be very proud,” notes Leecia Eve
Chair of the Roswell Park Board of Directors
“These amazing women and men excel in the hard skills and the soft skills required for exceptional nursing care
with an outstanding record of performance in clinical care
Roswell Park demonstrated the following strengths across its nursing program:
The designation follows two other recent nursing accomplishments: a Beacon Award of Excellence for the Roswell Park Intensive Care Unit
and the launch of a first-of-its kind program offering nurses advanced training in oncology research — the first such program at any U.S
“By becoming Magnet-recognized,” the ANCC notes
“organizations empower nurses to reach their true potential
When a healthcare organization earns Magnet status
it demonstrates to the world that it’s an organization that recognizes the invaluable potential of nurses to lead healthcare change.”
Roswell Park’s Department of Nursing employs more than 1,000 nursing professionals — registered nurses, administrators, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, hospital clinical assistants and clinical support assistants — all working together to deliver exceptional care and support for people with cancer and their families. For more information, see roswellpark.org/nursing.

NOTE: April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month. See “5 questions to ask your esophageal surgeon,” featuring further insights from Dr
on the Roswell Park Cancer Talk blog.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center achieved textbook outcomes for 90% of 150 consecutive robot-assisted, minimally invasive esophagectomies (RAMIE) performed from 2020-2024, as reported in a study in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery
The term “textbook outcomes” is used in the surgical field to refer to ideal outcomes
measured by such factors as the length of hospital stay and rate of complications
readmission to the hospital and mortality within 30 days after surgery
A recently published series documenting textbook outcomes from high-volume international centers reported a range of 40-45% — roughly half the percentage achieved at Roswell Park
“This is among the best outcome data we have seen with this operation,” says Roswell Park Chair of Surgical Oncology Moshim Kukar, MD, FACS
which analyzed data from a prospective database maintained by Roswell Park
Most of the patients included in the study had stage T3 tumors
indicating that the cancer had spread to lymph nodes or nearby tissues.
Esophagectomy — removal of the diseased portion of the esophagus — is a mainstay treatment for esophageal cancer
After removal of the cancerous part of the esophagus — the tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach — the stomach is lifted up into the chest from the abdomen so it can be reattached to the remaining part of the esophagus.
The surgery is associated with serious complications and a typical mortality rate of 3-5%
even at centers that perform a high number of procedures — a characteristic usually linked to better outcomes
But the Roswell Park team achieved 30-day and 90-day mortality rates of only 0.7% and 1.3%
respectively. “That’s about one-fourth of the typical risk we would expect for these complex surgeries,” says Dr
Patients in the study also had a low rate of anastomotic leak
a serious complication of the surgery that occurs when the surgical area between the stomach and remaining esophagus does not heal properly.
the patient can become extremely sick,” explains Dr
“When gastric and esophageal fluid leak into the chest cavity
patients can require multiple additional surgeries or other procedures and have to stay in the hospital longer
Data show that complications like this affect a patient’s overall survival
that means there will also be a delay in starting any adjuvant therapy — additional treatment required after surgery,” he adds
“If you don’t receive that therapy in a timely manner
you have an increased risk that the cancer will return.”
Previous studies have shown that even at centers that perform a high volume of these surgeries
the rate of anastomotic leak after laparoscopic or robotic surgery ranges from 15-33% — but only two of the 150 Roswell Park patients experienced a leak
and neither required an additional operation
The Roswell Park team employs the “side-to-side stapled anastomotic technique,” which is less prone to leakage than other methods
Roswell Park began performing all esophagectomies with RAMIE
which requires only small incisions in the abdomen and the side of the chest and is accomplished with robotic assistance
This means patients experience less blood loss and are less prone to infection
and the robotic instruments can move with greater precision than the human hand — an advantage when complicated suturing is needed
Patients who undergo robotic surgery experience less pain and typically have a shorter hospital stay versus those who undergo traditional open or laparoscopic surgery; patients in the Roswell Park study had a median stay of seven days
Roswell Park performs 60-70 esophagectomies per year using RAMIE — nearly three times the number required to be classified as a high-volume center. Dr
Kukar’s team has performed more than 700 minimally invasive esophagectomies since 2014
More than 250 of the surgeries were robot-assisted
including 150 performed during the period reported in the study
placing Roswell Park among the centers with the highest volumes for this surgery.
The Roswell Park team hopes the results of their study will encourage other centers to adopt these strategies
leading to a standardized approach to esophagectomy and better overall outcomes for more patients

Chevy has added two new color choices to its mid-engine Corvette sports car for 2026: Roswell Green Metallic and Blade Silver Metallic
Roswell Green is obviously a far more luminescent, shoutier shade. It reminds us of Viper Green, the ultra-bright shade seen on some Porsches and BMWs
We suspect the name is a playful nod to Roswell
where little green aliens have been rumored to be running around nearby Area 51
As much as we miss the darker Lime Rock Green found on the C7-generation Corvette
resides on the other end of the excitement spectrum
and on the lighter side of silver—almost white
at least judging by the photo shared above by the Corvette Instagram channel.
Adding two new colors to the Corvette's palette comes at a cost, according to Corvette Blogger
Chevy reportedly wants to keep the Corvette's color lineup to 10 shades
meaning it had to discontinue two colors: Rapid Blue Metallic and Sea Wolf Gray
The brightly colored Rapid Blue has been a staple of the Corvette option list since the car's debut in 2019
reminiscent of Audi's famous Nardo Gray paint
it grew to be one of the Corvette's most popular colors
Corvette buyers still have a wealth of great colors to choose from
