and many rookies have yet to play for their respective teams
let alone hit the field for the rookie minicamp
But that hasn’t stopped some from staking their claims regarding some postseason honors
ESPN’s Ben Solak has two Giants draft picks among his choices for Rookie of the Year honors on both sides of the ball
The obvious choice is outside linebacker Abdul Carter
among seven defensive candidates Solak has for the honors of Defensive Rookie of the Year
Carter is ranked third among seven candidates
just ahead of former Colorado cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter
Solak's surprising pick comes on the offensive side of the ball
He chose Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart
This is surprising not so much because Dart is a bad player or lacks potential but because for a player to have a chance at ROY honors
Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have both said the plan for Dart is to have him sit for the coming season
giving him a chance to smooth out any rough edges that might preclude him from having success once he does hit the field
and acclimate to all the little intricacies that successful NFL quarterbacks do to become winners
things he’s expected to pick up from being around veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston
such as when the Giants signed undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito with the expectation of having him stay on the practice squad to develop as a rookie
only to be forced to play DeVito when injuries wiped out the quarterbacks on the roster
DeVito proved ready to step onto an NFL gridiron and led the team to three wins as a starter
who’s to say that Dart can't replicate that success if he’s pressed into early action
there’s a reason why Daboll and Schoen have both been open about the plan for Dart as a rookie
which is for him to take a redshirt season
That plan makes it surprising to see Dart mentioned for any ROY honors at this point in the calendar year
though we suppose you can’t eliminate the slim possibility

Roy Cooper leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shape the rodeo for generations to come
the eight-time world champion and icon of calf roping
passed away at the age of 69 in a house fire at his Decatur
Known to all as "The Super Looper," Cooper was a trailblazer in the sport of rodeo
with a career that spanned more than two decades
breaking records and inspiring generations of cowboys and fans alike
Roy Cooper’s name was synonymous with calf roping excellence
With quiet confidence and an unmatched talent
he became one of the most dominant figures in rodeo history
His accolades were many: seven individual discipline championships
a record-breaking $2 million in earnings by 2000
his well-earned reputation as one of the most skilled ropers the sport has ever seen
he made history by winning the PRCA all-around title
a feat that cemented his place in rodeo lore
But Roy was more than just a record holder. He was a cowboy’s cowboy. His influence on the sport went beyond his competition successes. He inspired and mentored countless younger athletes, including his son, Tuf Cooper. In fact, we were fortunate to document Tuf’s rise in a feature we ran back in December of 2020 — a snapshot of a family legacy in full swing
As Tuf continues to carve out his legacy in the sport
he carries the lessons and spirit of his father with him
“It is with great sadness that our family shares the passing of our Dad
Roy Cooper,” Tuf posted on Facebook shortly after the news broke
“We’re all in shock and at a loss for words from this tragedy at the moment.” The statement captures the overwhelming grief felt by those closest to Roy
but it also reflects a deep sense of pride in a man whose life was defined by humility and unwavering dedication
where his natural talent for roping began to take shape
pushing through to become a competitor at the highest level
His journey from a determined young cowboy to a Hall of Famer is the stuff of rodeo legend
and an unshakeable commitment to his craft
His humility was as legendary as his roping skills
He was a man who didn’t seek the spotlight but instead let his actions speak for themselves
I’m just Roy,” he said in a February 2020 interview on Let’s Freakin Rodeo
embodying the modesty that made him beloved by those who knew him
In addition to his incredible success on the rodeo circuit
with Tuf continuing his father’s legacy as one of the sport's top stars
The Cooper family also played an integral role in founding the Cooper Rodeo Foundation
an organization that supports young people pursuing a rodeo career
Roy Cooper’s influence extends far beyond his individual titles
His influence shaped rodeo in ways that will endure for years to come
And though we mourn the loss of one of the greatest cowboys to ever ride into an arena
we take solace in the legacy he leaves behind — one that will continue to inspire and shape the future of the sport
“We’re all in shock,” but Roy’s legacy is one that will never be forgotten
His life was a testament to the power of passion
but "The Super Looper" will never be forgotten

Four-time steer-roping world champion Rocky Patterson said Cooper was highly competitive
"He was always going to win something," Patterson told the PRCA
He called Cooper a "good-hearted guy" who would talk to him when Patterson was a "nobody" early in his rodeo career

GALVESTON
Texas – A former Woodlands Mall security guard who was charged in Montgomery County with invasive visual recording and indecency with a child by exposure was arrested and charged in Galveston for allegations he secretly recorded a child who was with their family on the beach
of Conroe was arrested by police on April 30th and booked into the Galveston County Jail
The recommended bond for Roy’s charge of invasive visual recording was set at $75,000
Galveston Police say they responded at around 4 p.m
on April 19 to a report of a man taking photos of an underage child on the beach in the 1500 block of Seawall Boulevard
Police talked to the child’s family and were told a bystander had alerted them that a man was recording or taking photos of their child while they were enjoying the beach
The family was able to give police images of the man and the vehicle he was driving
Detectives were able to identify Roy as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued
“While Galveston police were investigating his actions on the beach, they learned that Roy had been previously charged with similar crimes in Montgomery County, Texas in 2024
Investigators from both agencies are working together to assist one another in their respective cases,” the Galveston Police Department said
In the 2024 incident, investigators with the Montgomery County Pct. 3 Constable’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Division received a tip about videos showing young girls recorded in public areas, including The Woodlands Mall
Some footage allegedly included young girls undressing in a Forever 21 dressing room
Detectives identified Roy as the perpetrator after spotting his face and security uniform in the recordings
admitted to assisting in creating the recordings
Both of them were charged in April 2024 with invasive visual recording
authorities filed an additional charge of indecency with a child by exposure against Roy in December 2024
The new allegations prompted Roy to surrender himself to law enforcement on January 4
Roy also worked as a tennis coach for children aged 8 to 17 in The Woodlands and Spring areas
KPRC2 Reporter Corley Peel asked the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office if Roy’s bond conditions for his Montgomery charges will change now that he has a new charge in Galveston County
The spokesperson responded saying the DA’s office cannot comment on an ongoing investigation
if someone is charged with an offense and is out on bond with conditions and they commit a new offense in same or another county
it may be a basis to ask the judge to set aside the bond

Roy Adams Jr.
surrendered and was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail today and released a short time later on a $10,000 bond
An investigation by FOX10 News reporter Ariel Mallory revealed that Adams was involved in a total of four crashes while on duty last year
In July, Adams ran a red light at Old Shell Road and Mobile Infirmary Boulevard in midtown Mobile, causing a crash that killed killed 67-year-old motorcyclist Sumner “Kahuna” Howard
New reporting tonight shows at least one discrepancy between the Mobile Police Department’s official crash report and the new indictment against Adams
which FOX10 News uncovered a few weeks after the wreck
Adams had his blue lights on but not his siren
the official indictment says Adams ran the red light “without both his visual emergency lights and audible siren.”
Mobile police also said Adams was on an emergency call when the wreck happened
but the department would never state what that call was
FOX10 also discovered Adams had multiple traffic tickets in Florida
Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood sent us a statement regarding Adams’ arrest
“A Mobile County Grand Jury has indicted former Officer Roy Adams Jr
Adams was indicted for disregarding the rules of the road and caused the death of Sumner Howard.”
MPD said Adams voluntarily resigned three weeks ago
the resignation was unrelated to the crash investigation

— The rodeo world has bid farewell to a true pioneer
a revered member of the Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame
tragically passed away in a house fire on April 29 in Decatur
Throughout a remarkable career spanning over three decades
Cooper established an impressive rodeo legacy
He was named Rookie of the Year in 1976 and captured seven world championships — six in tie-down roping and one in steer roping — along with winning an all-around title
Known for his exceptional talent with a rope

You can't compare me to Toots Mansfield or Dean Oliver because we were in different eras
one moment stands out for Cooper: winning the PRCA All-Around World Title in 1983
alongside the tie-down roping and steer roping championships
This achievement made him one of only 10 cowboys in history to secure rodeo's elusive Triple Crown
which consists of three world titles in a single year
Rodeo friends and legends reacted to Cooper's sudden passing on Wednesday
Cooper still proudly displayed his all-around buckle
I've never taken it off," he said in March 2023
Cooper would remove the buckle to lend it to fellow cowboy George Strait
whom he considers one of his closest friends
I would give it to George Strait if he would wear it
I would because he's one of my very best friends," Cooper explained
Cooper and Strait met shortly before Cooper's Triple Crown triumph in 1983
"All I can say is I got lucky," Cooper reflected
"It was an accident winning the steer roping (in 1983)
He and Trevor Brazile are the greatest steer ropers that ever walked
Cooper's trifecta of world championships placed him in an elite group
as only nine other cowboys have won Triple Crown honors in PRORODEO history: Clay Carr
"That was very special and a hard act to follow," Cooper noted
He is also one of only seven cowboys to qualify for the Finals in three events
achieving that feat in 1981 when he competed in tie-down roping
"I couldn't tie a steer from the right side or left side
and I couldn't find that bottom leg to string the bottom leg," Cooper recalled
said just string the top leg because you can't find the bottom one
and nowadays everybody strings the top leg

After retiring from professional competition
Cooper remained a vital figure in the sport

the event attracted over 500 competitors from 20 states
especially for trips to Calgary and Cheyenne to watch his son Tuf Cooper compete in tie-down events

winning titles in Tie-Down Roping in 2011-12 and 2014
as well as the all-around championship in 2017
and Clif all qualified for the NFR in the same year; that was the Triple Crown for me," Roy said
After a tie-down roping run in Oklahoma City
Cooper was approached by Strait's road manager
who asked if he wanted to meet the country music star
"Me and him sat there and talked for two hours before he had to play
noting their travels together for various events
"He's one of the best friends I could've ever had."
Cooper's illustrious career was marked by continued success
beginning in 1976 when he captured the PRCA tie-down roping world championship in his first full year of competition
along with earning Resistol Rookie of the Year honors
who was the world champion (tie-down roper in 1973)
and he took me under his wing," Cooper said
He was the first cowboy to win a tie-down roping world championship and the Resistol Rookie of the Year award in the same year
followed by five straight tie-down roping titles from 1980 to 1984
He shares the record for the most consecutive tie-down championships with Dean Oliver
who initially set the record from 1960 to 1964
"I had good horses and good guys around me
and I didn't think they could have a rodeo without me."
Included in his championship streak was the magical 1983 season when Cooper set his sights on an even more prestigious title—the all-around honor
who began competing professionally alongside Cooper in 1976
Allen had secured steer roping world titles in 1977
While Cooper viewed steer roping as his weakest event
he delivered in a clutch moment to secure the coveted gold buckle
He continued to excel in the latter part of his career
qualifying for his last NFR—in tie-down roping—in 2000 at age 45
"I have several good memories in the arena
and the greatest part about rodeo is winning," Cooper said
He grew up on the family ranch alongside his brother
Roy was trained by his father in the art of roping
leading him to win youth rodeos throughout the Southwest
His winning ways continued into high school
culminating in a National High School Champion Calf Roping title in 1973
and carried on into college at Cisco Junior College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University
where he clinched the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Calf Roping title in 1975

no one changed the game more than Roy Cooper
So much so that it isn't even anything anyone would argue with you about
The New Mexico born cowboy arrived to this world November 13
he qualified for his first National Finals Rodeo as a Rookie where he went on to be the World Champion and that was just the beginning
He would follow that accomplishment with seven more world titles making a total of eight in his illustrious career
Super Looper was the PRCA Tie-Down World Champion in 1976
He was also the All-Around World Champion in 1983
he was named the 1983 Steer Roping World Champion
The roper who would revolutionize the sport won more rodeos than can be listed and amassed an incredible amount of Circuit Year-End Championships as well
The accomplishments came due to his incredible work ethic but he also had some stellar bloodlines running through him
Roy was the son of champion roper Dale "Tuffy" Cooper and Betty Rose Hadley Cooper who had been born and raised on a ranch herself
Together they raised their family in Monument
Super Looper started his career as many do in the junior ranks of rodeo
He gathered several American Junior Rodeo Association championships including six All-Around cowboy titles
He went on to college rodeo for Southeastern Oklahoma State College where he was the 1975 NIRA Calf Roping Champion
Cooper was one of the first cowboys to get off the right side of the horse when tie-down roping and "hold" his slack
He tied calves in 8-seconds when that was a feat nearly unheard of
All of his accomplishments led him to be the first $2 million cowboy ever in ProRodeo - a title he earned in 2000 after a long and impressive career
It didn't take long for the rodeo community to recognize the impact this cowboy was having
In 1979 he was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame after just being a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for three years
Cooper became a member of the National Rodeo Hall of Fame
he was also inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame
Oklahoma but in 1990 he relocated to Childress
Texas where he spent many years surrounded by his three boys
The talent and work ethic ran true to his children
who all have found success in the rodeo arena
You could see the pride in his face when he sat in the stands or stood in the arena watching them compete
Clint is the oldest of the three with Clif in the middle and Tuf the youngest
They were the light of their father's life
Roy had a dream come true when all three of his boys qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in the same year
The Cooper family and all of their connections have long been considered some of the "royalty of rodeo"
Shada Brazile is his step-daughter and that
brought him close to the all-time great Trevor Brazile
the 2008 World Champion Tie-Down Roper was his brother-in-law
Social media is flooded with memories of a man who left a remarkable legacy on the world of rodeo
current and likely future World Champions all commented with an underlying theme
"The greatest of all time." That's the respect he earned from not just his peers but those who continue to this day to look up to him
A house fire took the man from this world on a fateful April day
The ropings won't be the same without you
the stands at the National Finals Rodeo won't be the same without you
The entire staff at Rodeo On SI extends our condolences to the rodeo community
Roy's friends and certainly his family

Will what I have to say still resonate?” One thing that has changed is Choi’s approach to eating: “I was known for going hard
it was known that I would order enough food for nine people
I would knock down cheesesteaks one after another.” That kind of appetite caught up with him — “I needed to dial it back” — even if moderation for a chef looks different than it might for anyone else: “Now
April 10It was the day before I left for Coachella
and breakfast at home was simple: raspberries
I know you’re getting ramps in New York and you always have the best apples
but we’re right at the start of strawberry season and they’re getting pretty good
There’s a real difference when it’s the peak season — from late April to June
I had those with a Little Gem salad with grapefruit and a quick balsamic vinaigrette I made and a soft-boiled egg
I’m in a lunch club that we call Thursday Lunch Club
entertainment — Phil Rosenthal is in it — some food bloggers
I’m like Larry David eating lunch with these people
and we all throw in suggestions for where to eat
He used to be the road manager for Bob Dylan
he started keeping a list of everywhere he should eat
It goes back 50 years but is also very current
I didn’t eat too much after that. For a snack, I had frozen yogurt with berries, plus some Cara Cara oranges from the farmers’ market. These were from K & K Ranch
And then I had leftover yellow rice from the Persian restaurant
I made a kind of Mediterranean stir-fry at home for breakfast
It was a little bit of leftovers and a lot of stuff I already had in the kitchen: spinach
It was a lot of different flavors and good nutrients
and when I add those charred flavors on top
I don’t miss a lot of the less healthy flavors I might have added in the past
Now this is where people are going to maybe start making fun of me because there’s a lot of trail mix this week
I used to make fun of people for eating trail mix
I had some before we stopped on the way at a Vietnamese place for vermicelli salad in La Quinta
I had some dried pineapple as a kind of dessert
I’d already been immersed in the heat and the crowds
and they take really good care of everyone working there — they go above and beyond and treat it like family meal in a restaurant
I used to be a huge coffee head — like in any city
a lot of my old homies are going to be rolling their eyes
They did have a big freezer full of Popsicles
so I had more of those — changed it up and did a Fudgsicle — while I tasted our food and ate catering throughout the day
Working at the festival is a little like working in the restaurant: You’re working and watching the different stages when you get a chance
kind of like stepping out into the dining room to meet a friend or greet someone
we had the great fortune to cater Green Day
I didn’t even know Green Day knew who the fuck we were
and it was really cool to see how they take care of their whole crew
They felt like kindred spirits with our small operation
and we take care of one another; everyone’s been with us for over a decade
sliders — making sure everything was on point
There are a couple of really great no-sodium granolas
They’re using a lot of coconut to substitute for the sweetness
which is another thing I’ve learned has zero sodium
I picked up a green juice on the way to the airport
I could travel around Europe for three months with one backpack
nothing exciting — and I got into New York at 1 a.m
The funny thing about your city now is everything closes early
we had to do the unthinkable and ask the concierge for a recommendation
and the concierge sent us to a bar around the corner that was surprisingly good
I had a Cobb salad with chicken and then a 70 percent dark chocolate
go to Frankies right now and get the green salad
I thought it was going to be like a charred whole broccoli
I have never had gnocchi done this well before
We got back to the hotel, reset for 15 minutes, and took a 90-minute drive to a bookstore called Bookends in Ridgewood
It was a great day-zero event for the book tour
We slid it in at the last minute because we had some time in New York
A lot of people came out; it was super-chill and filled with love
From there, we went back to the city. My co-author, Natasha Phan, is an expert on TikTok food. She had been seeing this crab-roe soup over rice. It’s at Xie Bao
and the outside of the restaurant just said “crab place.” They mix the roe of the crab with the meat into this cornstarchy … it’s almost like a chowder
It has the consistency of bird’s-nest soup or mapo tofu the way it’s poured over the rice
I hadn’t yet tested the waters of trying my new kind of diet in an Asian restaurant
so I know how treacherous it can be to ask for sauce on the side or do what I did and order halibut with no salt
and I’m happy it was being documented for New York Magazine because it was everything I expected
our server had to write down an essay on her notepad explaining very carefully why we wanted sauce on the side and no salt in very intricate terms because she didn’t want to get yelled at by the chef
And she couldn’t write one general note: She wrote this essay three times
and then the food came out salted and sauced anyway
and I think the lack of attention to the request is the utmost form of respect
We were staying in midtown because we wanted to be as close as possible in case we woke up late
but then they sent a car so we could have stayed anywhere
It was such an early morning we went back to the hotel to rest
I had a kale-and-quinoa salad with a side of salmon and asparagus
Everybody looks like the coolest kid in town; it looks like fucking Paris Fashion Week in there
It had the consistency of a creamy soft serve
It was dense and thick but didn’t feel heavy

Roy Jones Jr has looked back on Oleksandr Usyk’s 2023 victory over Daniel Dubois as the pair are set to run it back this summer
Current IBF champion Dubois will get a second shot at WBC
two years after the pair first fought out in Poland
The Brit’s team are adamant that they deserve this rematch due to a controversial fifth round in which Dubois put Usyk down with what was immediately ruled a low blow
Usyk was given all the time he needed to recover, which he took, and went on to stop ‘DDD” in the ninth round after controlling most of the action throughout. Dubois, his trainer Don Charles and promoter Frank Warren have been extremely vocal ever since, claiming that the shot in the fifth was a legal body blow.
the 27-year-old has been on a fine run that saw him stop Jarell Miller
Usyk meanwhile beat Tyson Fury to become the undisputed champion
before vacating the IBF strap to honour a rematch in December
Speaking to TalkSPORT
Roy Jones Jr gave his view on the controversial incident
saying that though he felt it was a legal shot
I thought it was a good shot … Sometimes when it’s borderline
if the cup makes contact it’s gonna hurt you.”
Dubois was due to fight in February against Joseph Parker but pulled out due to illness. He will return against Usyk and get the chance to win undisputed honours on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London.

There is a long line of cowboys whose hero was Roy Cooper
One of those cowboys was World Champion Tie-Down Roper Shane Hanchey
This loss hits home for Hanchey as one of his best friends growing up
“Not only was Roy an eight-time World Champion and all this
There were just so many nights that me and Tuf would be out there roping in the covered arena
[Roy] would be out there in his gold cart just helping us
Those are just a few of the memories that Hanchey holds on to
From growing up in the practice pen to winning one of the few rodeos Cooper did not
Hanchey’s stories of the Super Looper go on
is going on social media and seeing everybody that he touched
he loved his family and he loved roping,” he said
Some Roy residents are concerned their city skyline could change overnight
Utah (KUTV) — Some Roy residents are concerned their city skyline could change overnight
the City of Roy approved an ordinance changing the measuring from feet to stories
Roy City Manager Matt Andrews said the zoning change came after feedback from developers suggested stories could allow for better commercial development opportunities
MORE | Utah's Growing Pains: Ex-councilman on Salt Palace: Keep it, rather than sell it to someone 'looking for a buck'
The City of Roy said there is no proposed or submitted plan to develop 10-story buildings
but said the change in the ordinance could bring economic growth to the area
“A lot of people want restaurants and hotels and different things in Roy
This is a way you could enhance some of those businesses,” Andrews said
the permitted height changes could go from 40 feet to four stories
commercial spaces have a taller first floor
and if the 14-foot height requirement is used for the rest of the floors
“If you [the developer] exceeds 18 feet on the base
Every subsequent floor after that limitation would be 14 feet
so if you [the developer] went over 14 feet
that would be considered two stories,” Andrews said
Some Roy residents are afraid that part of their city will become 10-story buildings
“A lot of us don't want to see that kind of change in Roy,” said Deanne Chaston
Residents started a referendum to put the ordinance change up for a vote in the ballot box
“We want the residents to have a voice in this huge decision that could change the face of Roy,” Chaston said
Chaston added that the group is concerned that the city’s resources and infrastructure won’t be able to support the new residents who could go into those buildings
The group has until May 30th to collect signatures for their referendum
