On Sunday, April 27, I stood on the beach at Vinoy Park in St. Pete in a crowd of some 900 people all wearing the same green silicone cap. Some of us were jogging in place, dancing, or chatting out of excitement or nervousness. We were waiting for the gun to go off to run into the water, beginning the sprint distance triathlon (750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run) at the 42nd St. Anthony’s Triathlon.
It was a beautiful Sunday with a high of 89 degrees
and some 3,100 athletes from around the country came to downtown St
There were so many bodies in the water during the swim
trying to slip through gaps between shoulders and hips to pass
Breathing on only one side because the sun was right in my eyes and the waves came in on the left
Some people were kind enough to stop kicking when they felt my face on their feet
the winner of the women’s olympic distance triathlon that day (1.5K swim
finished her race in less than two hours “despite an unfortunate encounter with a stingray as she entered the water,” according to a press release
Anthony’s Triathlon attempt the best one yet.”
The transition area where all the bikes and shoes were was some half mile from where we got out of the water
The person whose bike was set up next to mine tried to make small talk while I put on my socks and shoes
My breathing was too hard and my heart rate too high to reply
Mark Dubrick won the men’s olympic distance triathlon and the $10,000 prize that comes with it
This is Dubrick’s second consecutive win at the St
“I just want to say thank you to everybody and I actually have my parents here with me (from Chicago),” said Dubrick
The race played out exactly how I wanted it to.”

The bike ride took us west on 1st Avenue South out to 28th Street and back
I love the Pinellas Trail as much as the next cyclist
but the pavement on 1st Avenue was a treat to ride on
Athletes rode every type of bicycle in the world
I saw multi thousand dollar triathlon bikes (flat as cardstock and super aerodynamic)
But there was little correlation between how nice someone’s ride was and how often they said “On your left!” before passing me
The second transition was much faster than the first
and I rode in my running shoes so I didn’t have to change them
It took less than 2 minutes to start the run
I pounded pavement for about a mile before I slowed down to a walk
I was saved by the water station volunteers handing out cups of ice
I put the ice in my hat and it melted and cooled me as I ran
The final steps over the finish line were the last steps I had in me
Volunteers immediately put ice water towels on me and gave me my medal
It took an army of volunteers to manage the thousands of athletes and spectators in downtown St
or checking that bib numbers matched bike numbers
but they all stopped to cheer when we passed
I’d never raced a triathlon before and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done

Anthony father is voicing frustration about an LGBTQ+ support day happening at his son’s middle school
saying parents were not informed about the plan ahead of time
“The issue is that I don’t have any idea what’s going on,” said Charlie Thompson
He said his eighth-grade son told him LGBTQ-focused activities would be happening at St
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS got a statement from the school
some students and staff are recognizing the National Day of (No) Silence to bring attention to the harmful effects of intolerance and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people in schools
SAMS has been honoring this day for years and there is no expectation for students or staff to participate in this Day of (No) Silence.”
The school noted it was put on by their GSA (formerly known as Gay Straight Alliance) club
and students had the option to wear masks and practice silence or wear black to show support
“I have full support for that community
What I don’t have support of is this agenda that they are
sort of pushing onto the students without any real clear communication about what this means,” Thompson said
this is what were going to teach your children with a day such as this.’ There’s nothing like that
Is there a reason that the parents are not getting information about this?”
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS asked the principal why parents were not told about the day’s events ahead of time
I certainly wouldn’t want parents to be blindsided by anything,” said Amy Stenson Kujawski
Kujawski said the school sends out a weekly update to families and forgot to include the plan for the National Day of (No) Silence in this week’s newsletter
to not share with families exactly what would be happening during the school day
“Right after their children’s safety
a second priority for families is open communication and trust
And missteps like this really erode that trust
I take it really seriously,” Kujawski said
Kujawski said she stands by the decision to allow students to participate in the National Day of (No) Silence but also recognizes parents’ frustrations over the lack of communication
“I am aware of the position I hold and if I can serve it with humility and vulnerabliity and say I’m sorry when something wasn’t clearly communicated
not only for me to know and reflect on but also to model for our students,” Kujawski said

Today the Roman Martyrology commemorates St
convert from Judaism and a professed Priest of the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel
Born in 1145 at Jerusalem and died by being stabbed to death in 1220 at Licata
Caterina Cittadini is also commemorated today
She was an Italian Roman Catholic religious from Bergamo who established the Ursuline Sisters of Saint Jerome Emiliani
The order was dedicated to the education of girls in Bergamo and in the surrounding areas and has since expanded outside of the Italian nation
leaving you an example that you should follow His steps" (Epistle)
The Christian slave might complain that his membership in the Church had not alleviated the harsh conditions of his life
Peter points to the example of Christ who was in all things to be the model of the Christian
neither was guile found in His mouth," but nevertheless he was subjected to persecution and injustice
But the Christian is expected to be a follower of Christ
but delivered Himself to him that judged Him unjustly." If then Christians feel that they have not achieved the liberty and the equality they long for
they are to remember that Christ had come not to right all the wrongs and injustices in the world
but to give an "example that you should follow His steps."
Men often complain against God when they suffer what they consider undeserved misfortunes
They think that God ought to interfere and punish injustice and wickedness here and now
They are like the apostles James and John; they want to call down fire from heaven and destroy those who appear to them to act improperly
Christ made it clear that all injustice will be rectified eventually
but that for the present He wishes to allow the cockle to grow among the wheat
When the proper time comes God will deal with injustice in His own way
But it is not only the slave who is to be subject to authority
and to recognize that mistreatment patiently borne is a service acceptable to God and meritorious for man
Obedience to legitimate authority does not depend on the worthiness of the official exercising authority
Christ Himself had commanded His disciples to obey the officials of the Jewish Church
even though they might not be personally worthy of the office they held
He was obedient first of all to His parents
"He went down with them and came to Nazareth
He observed the ritual and the laws of the Jewish Church
He obeyed the laws of the Roman authorities and paid the tribute they demanded
He set off on a Genoese ship on 1 April 1219 and stopped first in Messina before heading off to Civitavecchia before he ended up in Rome to meet with the pope
The friar preached in the Basilica of Saint John Lateran while in Rome where he met both Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Dominic
He foretold that Francis would receive the stigmata while Francis foretold his premature death.st angelus of jerusalem snip From there he was a guest of the Basilians in Palermo where he was for about a month
before preaching in Agrigento for over a month before settling in Licata
He had healed seven lepers and the ailing Archbishop of Palermo Bernardo de Castanea while in Palermo
He settled on the Sicilian island though his fame as a wonderworker caused crowds to flock to him
He also had success in converting some Jews though most Jews in Palermo came to despise him for this since he himself was once Jewish
He wanted to convert a Knight named Berenger
Catholic tradition states that Berenger was living in incest and that Angelo convinced the knight’s companion to leave him
Berenger became enraged and arranged to have him attacked and murdered
in front of the Church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo in Licata
He didn’t die from the attack until four days after the attack and during that time
he prayed for his assassin and asked the civil authorities to pardon him
setting an example for all those that he preached to
He was buried at Saints Filippo and Giacomo Church
His sepulchre at Licata quickly became a site of Pilgrimage
Symbols and Representation: Carmelite with a knife in his head; Carmelite with a sword in his breast
and three crowns; Carmelite with an angel bringing him three crowns; Carmelite with lilies and roses falling from his mouth
The sisters left the orphanage in 1823 to live with their cousins Giovanni and Antonio Cittadini
Caterina became a teacher at a girl‘s public school in Somasca in 1824
The sisters felt a call to the religious life; their spiritual director recommended that they should stay in Somasca
and become the basis of a new congregation
In 1826 the sisters rented a house in Somasca
and in October opened a boarding school for girls
and instituted the oratory style of education for her girls
The sisters established another “Cittadini” private school in 1832
Giuditta directed these new school until her sudden death in 1840
followed quickly by her spiritual director from the orphanage
The rapid succession of tragedy ruined Caterina’s health
but was cured through the intercession of Saint Jerome Emilani
Caterina quit her public teaching position in 1845 to manage the schools
and guide the three companions who help her
To help organize the work and lives of her companions
she wrote the beginnings of a new rule similar to that of religious orders
In 1850 she obtained permission to build a private oratory to keep the Blessed Sacrament at her boarding school
In 1851 she applied for approval of her new religious family
and told her to write the rules of the new order; her first attempt
based on the Constitution of the Ursulines of Milano was rejected
A second attempt was accepted on 17 September 1854 under the title Orsoline Gerolimiane (Ursuline Sisters of Somasca)
the bishop of Bergamo gave his approval; the order achieved papal recognition on 8 July 1927
and to care for the abandoned; today they work in Italy

Medaglia calls Carter 'a true believer in what we do'
2025 /PRNewswire/ -- North Lawndale-based Saint Anthony Hospital and its Board of Directors announced the hiring of Dorval R
In addition to Carter's management and government experience
his personal connection to the hospital and his role serving on its board for more than a decade made him the ideal candidate to lead and nurture the institution and the community it serves
"My family has a long and personal history with Saint Anthony
My father chaired the obstetrics and gynecology department for many years and today
the maternity ward — the Dr. Dorval and Vivian Carter Family Birthing Center — is named in my parents' honor
recognizing their tireless commitment to the hospital," Carter said
"I have been proud to serve on the board of directors for more than a decade
and I am excited to serve as the new President and CEO and lead Saint Anthony and its new Focal Point campus into the future."
community hospital dedicated to improving the health and wellness of families in Lawndale and its surrounding communities
Medaglia announced in January 2024 to the Board that he planned to retire in 2025.
"I'm incredibly proud of the achievements and advancements in care I was able to help lead during my time at Saint Anthony," he said
"I wanted to find a President and CEO candidate who shared my passion for this community and the excellent care we provide to everyone who comes through our doors
He is a seasoned executive committed to helping underserved populations
He also can navigate the complexities of state and federal government to ensure the hospital receives the support and funding to which it is entitled."
Medaglia joined Saint Anthony Hospital as interim president in 2007 and made several decisions that took the hospital from financial peril to being stable and well-operated with innovative advances in care
One of his first acts was to separate from Ascension Health Systems and transition into an independent
Carter has served the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in a variety of critical roles
he oversaw more than $11 billion in projects that were completed
begun or announced during his tenure leading the agency
including the $5.6 billion Red Line Extension Project—for which he recently signed a $1.9 billion Full Funding Grant Agreement with the Federal Transit Administration—the $2.1 billion first phase of the Red and Purple Modernization Program and billions of dollars in other projects and initiatives
Department of Transportation as chief of staff to Secretary Anthony Foxx where he helped manage a department with more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget
He also previously served as acting deputy administrator and chief counsel for the Federal Transit Administration
Carter believes his new role will allow him to continue a family legacy of service to residents of Chicago's West Side
"My formative years were spent working with my family at my grandparents' skilled nursing care facility on Chicago's West Side where I learned the importance of caring for the people we served — largely individuals with low incomes from minority communities," Carter said
"Those values have guided my career in public transportation and I will adhere to those ideals and principles as CEO
I am excited to serve our patients and the North Lawndale and surrounding communities in the years to come."
Carter will oversee the development of what is expected to be a new
state-of-the-art hospital at 31st Street and Kedzie Avenue
While state and city officials have set aside some appropriations for the new facility
it needs a stronger commitment from elected officials to move to the next phase
Carter is just the person to be at the forefront of that campaign
Medaglia will continue to serve as President and CEO of Chicago Southwest Development Corporation
"Saint Anthony is like the little engine that could," Carter said
One of the reasons I'm excited about Focal Point is that it's going to give us the opportunity to create the kind of physical infrastructure that matches our human capital
It represents an investment in a community that normally doesn't get to see these resources provided to them."

The Feast of the Translation of the Saint’s Relics
most important feast celebrating St Anthony after the June 13 feast
and marks the discovery of his uncorrupt tongue over 760 years ago
This scientifically inexplicable phenomenon is what faith calls a miracle
the instruments used by St Anthony for preaching
is still visible and uncorrupt after many centuries
The relic may be venerated in the Chapel of the Treasury in the Basilica
which is visited each year by millions of pilgrims
It was 8 April 1263 when the then-Minister General of the Franciscans
while inspecting the Saint’s mortal remains before their translation in the new funerary chapel
The following Holy Masses below will be streamed live on this page and on social:
Anthony of Padua will visit the Archdiocese of Atlanta (Georgia) from Friday December 6 to Sunday 15
accompanied by Friars Mario Conte and Fabio Turrisendo
two Franciscan friars from the Pontifical Basilica of St
Anthony’s Facial Skin and his Floating Rib
The Relic of the Floating Rib has special significance for the friars of Padua because it has been venerated by both Sister Lucia of Fatima and Pope Francis

from Germany with the intention to open a hospital
It is said those early Sisters, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George
a bag of oranges and a lot of determination — determination to make Christ’s merciful love more visible
The next year negotiations began for the Sisters to purchase Nazareth Home, a residence for the elderly, in Alton, IL. On April 1, 1925, the Sisters moved to Alton, thus establishing the first Thuiner Franciscan house in the United States, renamed Saint Anthony’s Infirmary - an early iteration of what is now OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony’s Health Center
OSF Saint Anthony’s is celebrating 100 years in 2025
and despite the hospital’s growth over a century’s worth of technological and societal advances
Vice President of Operations and Special Projects
said the care and compassion of those founding Sisters has been a through line for the hospital from its inception to today
“I think one of the greatest things that we have to offer anyone who walks through our doors is that they will be treated with genuine respect and dignity
as is our underlying mission — to serve with the greatest care and love,” Ziegler said
“I really do believe that people that come to Saint Anthony’s experience that

The advances over the decades are too numerous to name
but even in the four-and-a-half years she’s been in her position with the hospital
Sister Beata said she’s seen it grow in several ways
Ziegler said health care has become more expensive and people’s needs and wants have changed — let alone the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic — the hospital responded by pushing further into the digital space
provided the small community hospital with countless telemedicine capabilities that allowed it to reach and serve an even broader audience than it once did
we have the blessing of being connected to so many resources,” Ziegler said
We’ve really tried to become more a part of that.”
one misconception of OSF Saint Anthony’s is that one needs to be similarly religious to receive care at the hospital
all are welcome — another pillar on which the hospital was founded
and has received awards and recognition from numerous medical organizations
The OSF Moeller Cancer Center in Alton opened in 2019
and Ziegler said they’ve made a concerted effort to strengthen their oncology services and cardiology program
A medical stabilization program to help patients fight substance abuse issues is one of the newest programs rolled out by the hospital
OSF Saint Anthony’s teamed with New Vision withdrawal management service in 2023 to provide the program
including an inpatient stabilization stay to help adults deal with drug
alcohol and other substance-related issues
“If you look at our community health needs assessment (CHNA)
that is always one of the big needs in the Alton area,” Ziegler said
The hospital’s reach doesn’t end with its main campus at 1 Saint Anthony’s Way in Alton
OSF Saint Anthony’s also has a Godfrey location that features OSF Prompt Care
and a Bethalto location with primary care physicians as well
“All of those pieces are part of us,” Ziegler said
As OSF Saint Anthony’s looks ahead to another 100 years
providing care with love and concern for community will remain at the forefront — regardless of specialty
just as those founding Sisters would have wanted
“Even before we became part of OSF HealthCare
we called our employees ‘Mission Partners’ because we believe that they are just that — they work with us to be able to have this Mission move forward,” Ziegler said
“We’ve always been here to serve those most in need
those who are hurting — and that foundation has never changed
“That’s the beauty of what we do here at OSF Saint Anthony’s
but the heart that’s behind it all is the same.”
In the spirit of Christ and the example of Francis of Assisi
the Mission of OSF HealthCare is to serve persons with the greatest care and love in a community that celebrates the Gift of Life

Anthony Park Library will temporarily close April 7 through mid-June for needed repairs and maintenance to both of the building entrances
library officials said the repairs are necessary to ensure the building is safely accessible to all patrons
“The lower-level entrance does not meet accessibility standards due to the steep slope of walkway,” said library spokeswoman Rebecca Ryan
water collects at the base of the walkway near the building and

Money for the project is being provided by the City of St

Anthony Park is not an option to select when choosing a location to pick up your holds
Pick-up locations can be changed or holds suspended by logging into your account at sppl.org
One major impact due to the library’s closing: The SAP annual library used book sale
“We greatly regret not being able to hold our annual used book sale this year,” said Rita La Doux
chairperson of the SAP Branch Library Association board
“But the logistics of moving this event to another venue: the months-long book collection and pre-sorting
the physical set-up that takes about 40 volunteers over a full week in the library auditorium
and finding a location that would allow us to take over their space for all that time
makes it too much of a challenge to move the sale to another location
“SAPBLA looks forward to holding the next book sale in June 2026,” La Doux said
the annual SAP Arts Festival will be held at the library grounds on Saturday
“We are making a few adjustments of booth placement
but Festival Director Anna Gaseitsiwe is confident there will be little disruption to the Arts Festival,” La Doux said
“A few artists booths will be relocated for this year.”
The music stage on the library lawn will be in the usual location on June 7
and the library association will have a booth to welcome Arts Fest attendees

The weather outside was frightful with snow, sleet and freezing rain, but it didn’t deter the large crowd of faithful who gathered in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Parma on Feb
friends and representatives from other parishes where Father Andrew Hoover had ministered
Bishop Edward Malesic installed Father Hoover
“I hope that’s OK with you,” he asked the congregation
which responded with applause as Father Hoover beamed
the bishop had the new pastor preach during the installation liturgy
“I like to know what I’m giving you,” he quipped
Father Hoover said he spent some time trying to remember what was significant about Feb
8 when he recalled it was the birthday of one of his grandparents
He now has a second reason to remember the date
Father Hoover said he is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve as St
Anthony’s pastor and to fulfill “the hopes and dreams of what we can do together as a parish.”
the new pastor said he “has no business doing this
My family reminds me of who I am and where I’ve been.” As he scanned the nearly full church
he spotted people representing various times in his life
“You’ve loved me into being where I am,” Father Hoover told the congregation
The concelebrants included priests who have touched his life throughout the years
North Ridgeville pastor; Father Joe Koopman
Anthony Parish and a seminary professor who taught Father Hoover prior to his ordination in 2016; and friends from the seminary and the presbyterate
there is something important about Jesus’ death and Resurrection
no matter where we are in our call to conversion lay people
etc.,” Father Hoover told the faithful
“No matter where we are on our journey

we recounted which saint inspired us the most
one man in our group said that he has been looking to St
He was immediately kidded about finding his keys
Something’s lost and must be found!”
He deflected the jokes and said that he does not look to St
Anthony to help find spare change in the couch
He then stated that he has lost one of his sons to the secular world and prays that his son will find his way back to the Faith
those of us who were kidding him were very quickly humbled
Anthony for assistance in such serious matters
declared so by Pope Pius XII on January 16
he was both a noted theologian and a celebrated preacher
Anthony was born in 1195 just 13 years after St
he was part of a very prominent family in Portugal
At the age of 15 he entered the religious order of St
He studied Augustinian theology for 11 years
and this he would later combine with Franciscan teaching
five martyred Franciscans were carried in solemn procession to the monastery where Fernando lived
The men were beheaded in Morocco for preaching the Gospel at a mosque in Seville
He asked permission to leave the order of St
Augustine and took the vows of the Franciscan order taking the name of Anthony in honor of the patriarch of hermits
Francis heard of Anthony’s skills as an orator and assigned the young priest to preach in northern Italy
with the special approval and blessings of St
Anthony became the first teacher of the Franciscan order
Anthony preached a series of Lenton sermons
Crowds as large as 30,000 came to hear him speak
His spiritual work took the entire day which he performed while fasting in constant prayer
He was only 36 and had been a Franciscan for only 10 years
St. Anthony is the known as the patron saint of lost items
The reason stems from an incident with a novice
Anthony had a book of psalms that he regularly used
Anthony had many annotations in the margins of the book which he used to teach students in the Franciscan order
A novice who was leaving the monastery was suspected of stealing the book
Anthony prayed for the return of his cherished possession
the novice returned the book and sought Anthony’s forgiveness
Anthony was a humble friar who preached the gospels with fearless courage
Although initially perceived as uneducated
he became one of the great preachers and theologians of his day
He often engaged with heretics of his time focusing on the truths of the Catholic Church as opposed to preaching to prove he was right
His compelling preaching brought many souls into communion with the Church
Perhaps as a testimony to the power of his preaching
30 years after he died his tomb was opened and all that remained of the saint was his preserved and incorrupt tongue
his work continues as many people have lost their way
Many of our brothers and sisters who have wandered from the Faith are truly lost and need to be found
the Litany of the Lost is apropos to our time
May our lost brothers and sisters find themselves and return
(from the National Catholic Register)
as an intercessor of those who are in need of your mercy
Listen to his voice as he calls out to You on our behalf
and grant those things which will help us grow in Your love
there are considerable gaps in my knowledge of saints
Anthony when I asked to pick a patron saint
Not because of lost items but because my one brother was named Anthon

Boston’s Historic North End will host its annual Saint Anthony’s Feast this weekend to honor the patrons St
religious services and an abundance of Italian and American food
which attracts hundreds of thousands of attendees
But college-aged students will now need to be with an older adult after unruly behavior from juveniles disrupted the event last year
“It’s not just a ‘Drop your kid off and walk away,’” said Michael Bosco
a North End committee member of the Saint Anthony’s Feast
Each entrance will have a security station staffed by both private security and Boston Police personnel
This is what we’re trying to preserve,” Bosco said
“We want this to be a welcoming and a safe environment for everybody that comes to the North End to celebrate with us.”
He’s been working at the famous Mike’s Pastry on Hanover Street for years
He remembers running around the festival as a teen and says the new rule for younger people is unfortunate
and I don’t think they had much of a choice,” he said
The Saint Anthony’s Feast tradition was started by Italian immigrants in 1919 and is now a major religious festival in New England
religious services and authentic Italian food are all available at the four-day festival
including with a 10-hour procession of the Statue of St
Anthony accompanied by marching bands and floats
A Boston Police spokesperson said a police detail will be on hand to monitor the event
who grew up in the North End and still lives there
He also recalled having fun at the festival as a 16-year-old kid without his parents — but that now
“People who come here should behave well and come to celebrate
Aluia said residents of the neighborhood enjoy welcoming people
but it’s a family event that festival-goers should feel safe to attend
said the festival is a wonderful event and no one should have to endure chaos that happens late at night with younger kids
“People come into the North End to kind of see what it’s all about,” Papa said

Anthony Foundation Free Clothing Program serving the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco on Tuesday
Terry Osback: “If access doesn’t mean immediate service
From its staples of free meals and clothing to its growing medical care
the nonprofit’s foundation remains the same
Anthony Foundation continues to provide the basics for unhoused Tenderloin residents
even as the nonprofit explores further building up its services ahead of its 75th anniversary next year
St. Anthony’s staples — warm meals twice a day, even on holidays
to name a few — and its expanding medical and behavioral-health care are all built upon the same foundation
“The common ground is that sense of love in whatever we do,” he said
Spokesperson Sally Haims said the organization is preparing 4,000 pounds of turkey
and 1,600 servings of challah for its annual Thanksgiving meal
Anthony’s serves around 2,000 meals at its 121 Golden Gate Ave
told The Examiner on a recent visit that she has volunteered and served breakfast at least twice a week for the last nine years
and knowing about them is just absolutely wonderful.”
Voss said her fellow volunteers and the staff are
is getting to walk through the Tenderloin from her home in Nob Hill on her way to her shifts
miming how she’ll smile and wave to passersby
said the chefs behind the operation take pride in their work
They recently started baking fresh bread daily
“It really is somewhere where the chefs take a lot of pride in the culinary skills and the offerings that they produce over there.”
Upstairs from the dining room is arguably The City’s most exclusive boutique: St
Anthony’s longstanding appointment-only free-clothing program
which started soon after the nonprofit’s 1950 inception and distributes clothes to unhoused residents of all ages and genders
Salvation Army because they’re national and they’re all over the place,” he said
We’re a lot more reliant on word of mouth.”
The program relies entirely upon donations
Merry said men’s clothing is most in demand
with “[men making] up about 60% of our guests that we see here.”
“The big difference is that we just give it straight to the people that need it,” Merry said of the donations
who is worried the district is "getting rid of the heart and soul of the schools."
SF says it is making progress on forming an anti-corruption office
As Republicans expressed alarm that the rest of the country might follow the Golden State’s push to promote electric vehicles
Anthony’s efforts have grown as it has remained rooted in the heart of the Tenderloin
provides showers and laundry services by appointment
estimated that 55 people shower and about 40 do laundry on a daily basis
“A lot of my job is politely telling people our list is full,” Parenteau said
The hub opens at 7:30 every weekday morning
but people often begin signing up as early as 6 a.m
There is growing demand, too, for medical and behavioral health care, according to Kwan. Dr. Terry Osback, a psychiatrist, started at the 150 Golden Gate Ave. medical clinic in September
and Kwan said the early results are encouraging for its new integrated-care model
Osback said the idea is to bring psychiatrists
specialists and even patients’ companions “into the clinic to support the primary-care providers in providing the best care for our patients on their health journey.”
with all the leaders of each of those disciplines to try to figure out what more we can do to keep those people in care
and it allows us to leverage off the relationships that our clients have developed,” he said
Anthony’s is aiming to launch a full-scale medical hub in the Tenderloin
The nonprofit doesn’t have the means to expand to such a size just yet
Anthony’s leadership will discuss in greater detail next year how to scale up
mental health — that kind of ambulatory setting where we can be a medical home ..
for a neighborhood and a community,” Kwan said
Early next year, St. Anthony’s will also focus on extending a pandemic-era street closure on the 100 block of Golden Gate Avenue, which has become known as the Golden Gate Greenway
Anthony’s has joined neighbors such as Larkin Street Youth Services
and the Tenderloin Community Benefit District in a campaign to permanently close the block to vehicular traffic
“Part of the issue about the Tenderloin is we’re so focused on the urgent crisis that people do walk right by without knowing that the Tenderloin has more kids per capita than any other neighborhood in the city,” said Geoffrey McFarland
About 3,500 children live in the Tenderloin
is one of only a few public-recreation spaces in the neighborhood
many of which McFarland said residents don’t necessarily feel safe using amid visible homelessness and drug use
Anthony’s maintaining the Golden Gate Greenway
recreation for the rest of the community can coexist side by side with homeless services
“They can hold it and create a model for The City where
and that doesn’t need to displace a safe place for kids to play,” he said
Anthony’s could encounter legal issues with its clients and patients next year
The nonprofit has “a large immigrant population,” he said
and incoming President Donald Trump has pledged to carry out mass deportations once his term begins Jan
the organization will stand behind its clients
just as it has done so for almost 75 years
“We’re about to hit a time when I think there will be some new needs,” he said
“Our focus will stay on the guests and making sure they’re met.”

Chef Leo Davila didn't waste any time between restaurant concepts
Just days after Chef Leo Davila announced the closure of his first brick-and-mortar restaurant
he's revealed the next step in his culinary career
Davila will be the executive chef at a new restaurant and bar concept at the St
A press release offered no further details about the concept, but it will presumably take over the former space of Rebelle and Haunt Lounge, which closed in January of 2025
Anthony Hotel is such an important part of San Antonio’s history
and it’s an honor to be part of its next chapter," said Davila
"I’m excited to bring my passion for food to this iconic space
crafting menus that celebrate the rich culinary heritage of our city while introducing innovative dishes that will surprise and delight both locals and visitors alike."
It's not clear whether Davila will continue showcasing his signature hybrid of Chinese and Mexican cuisines; from how he's spoken about Stixs & Stone in the past
it sounds like the blend is in his cooking DNA (as well as his actual genes) whether he plans to highlight it or not
The chef framed Stixs & Stone's closure as a sign of health
explaining that it would have to happen to make space for a new opportunity
and deep connection to the flavors of South Texas make him the perfect fit for The St
Anthony Hotel," said the hotel's general manager
"We are confident that his culinary vision will not only enhance our dining offerings but also reinforce The St
Anthony as a premier destination for food and hospitality in San Antonio."
Chef Stefen Bowers posted a long and candid public address on social media airing grievances about how hotel management handled the transition
seeing immediate popularity at his new restaurant
although Pumpers didn't make it to the current bracket
Chef Leo Davila didn't waste any time between restaurant concepts
The most recent Yelp review was posted on March 15
Poujol posted a statement the restaurant is “temporarily closed,” although the platform does not list a date
McLaughlin and McChesney have not revealed a timeline for its replacement

Authorities are investigating the cause of Friday night’s fire at the abandoned Saint Anthony Convent and Motherhouse
a historic but vacant building at Court Street and Grant Boulevard
Firefighters were still on scene Saturday morning after a fire tore through the historic Syracuse building
The Syracuse Fire Department responded to the area just before 6:30 p.m
finding smoke coming out of the roof and top floor
“It was a problematic response initially because we were at an ongoing fire over on Carbon Street,” SFD Chief Michael Monds said
“Heavy structure fire over there with heavy smoke
a lot of firefighting going on over on Carbon Street before we came to this location
A lot of those firefighters from that fire left that fire and came over here.”
The department says one firefighter was treated after exhausting work at both fires
although the fire is still not completely out
"It looks tremendously better than it did last night going into the morning
so the firefighters are making an impact on putting the fire out," Monds said
"We're working on some hotspots right now
We'll be here throughout the day just making sure that this fire is fully extinguished."
