SAINT CLOUD — Last week high school athletes all around central Minnesota had impressive performances but 32 stood out Cloud area saw school records set in track and field and no-hitters in softball and baseball Several diamond sports teams are still undefeated and local golf tennis and track and field teams are putting up great numbers midway through the season Read below for a recap of the most at-bats for Holdingford (9-1) last week as the Huskers cruised to easy wins against Maple Lake (0-9) on Tuesday Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (4-6) twice on Thursday and Albany (6-5) on Friday the Falcons 10-0 and 12-0 and the Huskies 8-2 Bieniek was errorless at shortstop and didn’t have a strikeout at the plate He had a home run in the second game against ACGC and was 3-4 against Albany The Sauk Rapids baseball team hasn’t started the way it wanted but the team beat Detroit Lakes 11-0 on Tuesday behind a no-hitter from Mason Fincher The Storm scored just one run two days later in a 11-1 loss to Sartell (8-1) five inning outing against the Lakers (1-10) One walk stood between him and a perfect game Cathedral baseball junior outfielder and pitcher   Junior centerfielder Jack Hamak closed all of Cathedral’s baseball games last week on the mound allowing zero hits in five innings against Osakis (1-7) The Crusaders (11-0) beat the Silverstreaks 8-1 on Monday the Falcons 4-1 on Tuesday and the Flyers 5-2 on Thursday Hamak had three strikeouts in the outings and didn’t make an error in the field Becker baseball sophomore pitcher and first baseman   Becker is on a six-game baseball winning streak The Buldogs (7-4) beat Cambridge-Isanti (5-4) on Tuesday by a score of 14-0 with Gerad Hanle pitching a no-hitter Becker also beat Big Lake (6-3) and Milaca (1-10) on Thursday and 25 by scores of 6-5 and 10-7 Hanle played first base when he wasn’t pitching going 5-12 with three RBI and two runs scored Some other stats from his five-inning no-no against the Bluejackets included eight strikeouts and two walks Holdingford baseball junior pitcher and DH   Junior Jacob Worlie started the first game of Holdingford’s doubleheader against ACGC earning the win with four strikeouts and just two hits given up Worlie allowed opposing batters an average of .111 while hitting .556 himself Worlie DHed for Holdinford when not pitching Royalton baseball senior pitcher and shortstop   Royalton senior Brady Yourczek pitched and hit well across four games for Royalton last week as the Royal baseball team went 2-2 splitting a doubleheader Thursday against BBE beating Osakis 15-8 on Friday and losing to Kimball earlier in the week 3-2 Brady Yourczek started on the mound Tuesday against Kimball He was a little shaky after an error to lead off the third inning walking two and giving up two runs on a sacrifice fly and a single Yourczek had two RBI in the game with an inside-the-park homer Cloud Crush girls golf sophomore Sara Balmori had two top-ten finishes at Central Lakes Conference meets playing Blackberry Ridge and Detroit Country Club shooting a 79 at Blackberry Ridge and placed sixth with an 11-over 82 on Monday in Detroit Lakes Balmori birdied 17 at Blackberry Ridge and 15 at Detroit Jameson Schmitz finished in third at a CLC meet Tuesday at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria The Sartell junior had the second lowest score at the meet tied for third 107’ 6” She was the only competitor to clear 100 feet and won the shot put by more than four feet with a heave of 35' 1" Foss won both events at the Pequot Lakes meet She set a new PR in the 400 but did not qualify for the finals with a time of 1:19.37 In Sauk Rapids’ second-place finish at Holdingford Evan Hardy ran blistering times in the 100 and 200 Hardy set PRs and won the sprints against Krattenmaker set a PR in the shot put and a season best in the discus last week He won the shot put with a toss measuring 43’ 10.5” and placed second in discus his 122’ 10.75” throw falling short of and a junior-year record in the 800 Reuter ran the 1600 on Tuesday in Pierz in a time of 5:27.55 and the 800 in Kimball in a time of 2:28.7 Cathedral freshman Cecilia Jamison was second in 2:33.13 and EV-W/K sophomore Alayna Haag was third in 2:35.78 Reuter also anchored the winning 4x800 team in Kimball but she finished outside of the top eight runners at the 3200 meter race in Pierz As a team Cathedral placed second behind the home team’s 91 at Pierz The Crusader boys team was narrowly edged by Albany for third place They were a half point from Lester Prairie in sixth at Kimball Erika Salaski won two 100-meter sprints for Cathedral adding a 200 meter gold to the list of accomplishments She ran a 13.04 at Pierz’s quadrangular and a 13.24 at the EV-W/K invite beating Foley junior Addison Beier in second Salaski’s winning 200 time in Pierz was 27.08 finishing two hundredths of a second slower in Kimball Salaski started the Crusader 4x200 in Kimball Kailey Thompson gapped her 100-meter hurdles competitors last week first winning the Monticello invitational by more than a second with a 15.51 PR then winning again in Pillager with an even larger gap between her 15.97 and second place Thompson also ran the 300 hurdles at the M8C meet in Monticello On Friday Thompson ran at the Hamline Elite meet finishing eighth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.07 Becker ended in CLOUD (WJON News) -- Big things are planned for a little building tucked in the middle of the 400 block of East St Maddie Waseka bought the building in 2022 as an investment property.  Last May, we first told you that she planned to open an eatery in the 417 building (known as the former Dutch Maid Bakery building).  At that time I've been talking about it for two years but I've been getting a handle on it and am finally starting to figure out what it's going to take to run two restaurants myself Waseka also owns the Copper Kitchen on Highway 10.  She says she wanted to get past the two-year construction project on Highway 10 so she could focus on that restaurant before opening a second one Cloud Economic Development Authority to help with some of the costs of demolition.  The inside of the building has been completely gutted Waseka says she plans to use the same tones and looks as the Copper Kitchen but with a modernized feel.  She wants it to be a comfortable place for a businessperson to have a meeting or a place to just hang out.  It will kind of be an offshoot of the Copper Kitchen Waseka is calling the new location "The Kitchenette" She is starting with a coffee breakfast restaurant which could eventually expand to a night shift with dinner hours.  Waseka hinted at a three-phase plan but didn't want to expand too much on that She says the two restaurants will have their own menu with the Copper Kitchen sticking with its classic diner-style menu and the new space offering lighter fare I'm looking to do something a little more light but local suppliers and local ingredients from different places around St Cloud.  I want to keep things a little less diner and a little more upscale it gets so busy at the Copper Kitchen that Waseka says it would be nice to lighten the load and bring some of the business to her own competition on the east side Waseka calls The Kitchenette a passion project for her where she can start completely fresh with a new menu The Waseka family has been a part of the east side of St nearly 60 years.  She wanted to create a second business on the east side because she sees so much potential for the east end Cloud where people have a culinary adventure She says her hope is to create something that attracts people to the east end of town again Construction is expected to last through the summer.  She says The Kitchenette could be open for breakfast as soon as this September Big things are planned for a little building tucked in the middle of the 400 block of East St. Germain Street in St. Cloud.\nRead More ST. The St. Cloud Police Department arrested the man around 3 p.m. April 30 after authorities were called to the 3000 block of 15th Street North in St. Cloud, according to a statement of probable cause and the Stearns County Jail roster. First responders allegedly saw the man fighting with his brother, as witnesses said the suspect threw items at his brother, hit him and forced him outside the building. As officers tried to arrest the 52-year-old man, he reportedly fought with officers. The criminal complaint alleges the suspect grabbed one officer's holstered pistol and started to "tug on it." The suspect reportedly continued to fight until officers restrained him, but he never gained full access of the firearm. Charges were filed by the Stearns County Attorney's Office on May 2, according to the criminal complaint. He was scheduled to have his first court appearance Friday morning, May 2, as well. The St. Cloud man is facing a felony charge of attempting to disarm a peace officer, a gross misdemeanor obstruction of legal process charge and a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
