On Monday, ICE, FBI, and Drug Enforcement agencies were caught on camera arresting people between Race and Moore Streets. The same scene has been happening across Arkansas, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Little Rock. It is part of the Department of Justice’s self-described priority to remove illegal immigrants from America. Leslie Rodriguez said America is her country too, and the activity happening where she was born and raised has not made her feel protected. “Everybody was scared. They were in fear,” Rodriguez described. “It’s really sad to think about how some kids won’t be able to come home to their parents because some were taken away.” She said two of her neighbors were arrested by ICE and other federal agents Monday. Her uncle was pulled over even though she said he is a legal citizen. Where she works, her mother Julia Espino works, and other Hispanic businesses in town, some employees are not working out of fear. “My phone, call me every day all the time, ‘ICE is here. ICE is here.’ I can’t believe this is happening in Searcy,” Espino recalled thinking. According to the U.S. Attorney in Little Rock, the statewide operation arrested just illegal immigrants who have had contact with law enforcement in the past, as well the multiple individuals alleged to have committed drug and gun crimes. Rodriguez said her family came to America only to work, and she argues the government’s focus should be elsewhere. “People just because they looked brown-skinned or Hispanic or Mexican, they just got pulled over by the way they look and that doesn’t seem fair to me. I see that as racism,” Rodriguez said. Some other information has gotten out through local authorities. Area newspaper White County Citizen attributes a White County Sheriff’s Office Deputy with saying 17 men reportedly in the county illegally and with previous criminal charges were arrested and taken to an ICE facility. A Searcy Police lieutenant told the paper the Central Arkansas Drug Task Force assisted ICE when asked. KARK 4 News contacted both departments but was told to direct all questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. That office will be holding a press conference Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The Drug Enforcement Administration sent a statement in response to a station inquiry. Special Agent in Charge Steven Hofer stated: “DEA’s presence Monday was part of an enhanced law enforcement operation, involving multiple federal law enforcement partners. As the lead drug enforcement agency, we now prioritize drug investigations involving violent, illegal criminals responsible for flooding our communities with deadly and dangerous drugs.” Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media Inc.
