Signature Acquisitions has retained JLL as the leasing team at 500 Plaza Drive in Secaucus after its recent acquisition of the 464,000-square-foot office building
the landlord has also committed to upgrading the 11-story property
mixed-use Harmon Meadow campus at the junction of Route 3 and the New Jersey Turnpike
Those improvements are slated to include a refreshed conference center with new connective technology
The building is currently 70 percent occupied by a mix of corporate headquarter tenants
including medical testing firm Quest Diagnostics
The Children’s Place and real estate firm Hartz Mountain Industries
That leaves some 133,000 square feet of available space
which Executive Managing Director Tim Greiner and Senior Managing Director David Stifelman are now marketing
including 65,000 square feet on the second floor
50,000 square feet on the fifth floor and roughly 18,000 square feet across the seventh floor
“Harmon Meadow offers the ideal work environment — combined with the perfect place to relax and socialize afterward,” said Sandy Monaghan
senior vice president and director of leasing of Signature Acquisitions
“It’s the best corporate lifestyle offered anywhere around
500 Plaza is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of today’s tenants
and we look forward to working with JLL to introduce the newly renovated destination to occupiers seeking headquarters-quality space.”
The announcement comes some two months after Signature acquired 500 Plaza Drive from Manulife Investment Management
in a deal arranged by JLL’s capital markets team
The $50 million deal gave it a foothold in the 550-acre Harmon Meadow complex
offices and apartments just three miles from Midtown Manhattan
spread across 2 million square feet of office space
have access to national and big-box retail
an LA Fitness Signature Club and a 14-screen movie theater
Other features include more than 30 restaurants and eateries
along with a convention center and nine hotels within walking distance
“500 Plaza Drive is a one-of-a-kind offering in a high-demand location,” Stifelman said
The availability of headquarters-sized opportunities in a recapitalized building with strong
stable ownership appeals to tenants who require an ideal location and abundant amenities.”

2025 at 2:44 pm ETStrobe when he was first brought on to the Secaucus Police Dept
but is still owned by DeFazio as a privately owned dog
Police Chief Dennis Miller is also pictured
NJ — Here is the latest update on the incident where a former Secaucus Police dog attacked two smaller dogs and their owner in the north end of town Saturday afternoon
The woman whose dogs and husband were attacked posted her story on Facebook
so this incident is already widely known in town
here is the latest update as of Monday afternoon
Gonnelli said he and Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller spoke to the woman and her husband by phone Monday morning
He said the dog attack is currently being investigated by Secaucus Police Capt
who is the town's certified Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officer
He is the one who is legally required to investigate all dog attacks that occur in town
The Secaucus Police Department will then likely refer the matter to the Hudson County Prosecutor — in the interest of full transparency
"I will assure the public that the dog owner
has not and will not receive special treatment
simply because of his chosen profession," Police Chief Dennis Miller said Monday afternoon
"The matter is under investigation and I will not speculate on it any further until I have all of the facts based on the evidence derived from the investigation
Once the investigation is complete I will issue another statement on the results."
"I really feel empathetic for this woman," said Mayor Gonnelli Monday afternoon
"I would be very upset too (if my dog was attacked)."
the woman said her husband and their two dogs were attacked Saturday by"a loose massive black German Shepherd." The attack took place at 1:33 p.m
on Paterson Plank Road near Franklin Street
Only one of the dogs was actually bitten by the German Shepherd
It was a former Secaucus Police dog — named Strobe — that attacked them
Strobe is a German Shepherd and he was the first K-9 to join the Secaucus police force; he was purchased by the department in 2021
Strobe was retired from the Secaucus Police Department
and is now considered a privately owned dog
DeFazio was out of town when the attack occurred Saturday
and the officer's wife kept Strobe in their backyard
She said the attack lasted for "well over" 15-20 minutes
and that Strobe took "chunks" out of her one dog
The dog attack was only broken up by neighbors who rushed to help
The woman said Secaucus Police then "arrived and the dog jumped into the police vehicle."
She said then "four police officers arrived at my front door and refused to provide me with any information about the dog’s owner or the dog itself
They also refused to write a summons for the owner."
Secaucus Police told her she could file a police report
Strobe's owner (DeFazio) "called my husband to say he was sorry to hear about the incident and didn’t want to ruin the holiday ..
He also told me and my husband that he wasn’t in town and that his wife felt terrible but couldn’t do anything because she was home with her kids."
Secaucus Police confirmed the attack happened
the Secaucus Police Department received a call of an animal incident in the north end of town
Within a few minutes police officers responded to the area
who is privately owned by a member of the Secaucus Police Department
got loose from his residence and attacked another dog and the other dog’s owner."
Chief Miller said this woman's account does "not accurately depict the Secaucus Police Department’s response to the incident
to provide the public with accurate facts of the Secaucus Police Department’s response
"After a review of body-worn camera footage
the responding officers showed empathy and compassion to the individuals involved
The officers offered medical attention to the dog owner who declined ..
The responding police officers did in fact offer an apology to the owners ..
the responding officers informed the couple that the attacking dog owner’s information would be contained in the police report
since the Secaucus Police Department does not provide the public with non-public information
While the Secaucus Police Department empathizes with the dog owners
summonses are not routinely issued to any animal owner without conducting a follow-up investigation by a certified Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officer (MHLEO)
The couple was informed at the time of the incident that the incident would be investigated by a Superior Officer of the Secaucus Police Department who is also a certified MHLEO (Coar)
I already spoke with him this morning regarding the matter
the couple was informed of their own right to sign a Town Ordinance violation or the right to pursue the matter civilly during the police response
While I understand that emotions are high and I offer my personal sympathy to the individuals involved
I ask everyone to remain calm while the investigation is completed
because the Secaucus Police Department is notorious for handling things properly."
This statement was signed by Secaucus Police Chief Miller
The woman said she has photos of the injuries and she also has video surveillance of the attack
She did not respond when Patch asked to interview her about the dog attack

2025 at 3:34 pm ET(Carly Baldwin/Patch)What you now see when you walk into the main lobby at Bayonne Medical Center
the New Jersey Department of Health officially approved the final application from Hudson Regional Hospital to become the owner/operator of Bayonne Medical Center
In November, Yan Moshe, the owner of the Secaucus hospital, announced he was going to assume ownership of Bayonne Medical Center
But the takeover was not finalized; the state of New Jersey had to sign off on it
NJ Department of Health Commissioner Kaitlan Baston approved a "certificate of need" application from Hudson Regional to become the permanent owner/operator of Bayonne Medical Center
the Hoboken hospital and Christ Hospital in the Jersey City Heights all used to be owned by CarePoint Health
Those three hospitals serve more than 60 percent of the population in Hudson County
and 65 percent of their patients are uninsured or underinsured
But CarePoint declared bankruptcy in November
after it told the state it needed a $100-million bailout to continue operations — and even then it might not be enough to make payroll or pay its bills
This was a hostile takeover by Moshe: He and CarePoint clashed for years
and in 2020 Moshe purchased the land on which Bayonne Medical Center sits — so CarePoint technically became Moshe's tenant
CarePoint even filed a restraining order against Moshe
something usually used in domestic violence cases and not to block hostile corporate takeovers
just before Carepoint filed for bankruptcy
CarePoint's Board of Trustees agreed to "transition" operations at the three hospitals to Hudson Regional
Hoboken and Christ hospitals to operate under the name Hudson Health System
Moshe has not taken over operations of Christ and Hoboken — yet
Those two hospitals are still technically owned by CarePoint; the matter is tied up in bankruptcy court
Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis — currently running against Secaucus resident Frank Schillari to be Hudson County Sheriff — said this week he is glad Hudson Regional is now the owner of his town hospital
He said it saved the life of Bayonne Medical Center
“I am very happy that the New Jersey Department of Health issued a certificate of need to Hudson Regional Hospital for Bayonne Medical Center (BMC),” said Davis
“This is a great development that will enable BMC to serve the community as a full-service hospital
Bayonne needs a fully operational hospital that can serve the healthcare needs of our residents and our neighbors from Hudson County.”
“This is the first time in maybe 25 or 30 years that I am confident that we have owners of Bayonne Hospital
and we are not going through this in another ten years from now again,” Davis previously said
Murphy's decision to approve the transfer of ownership of the Bayonne Medical Center to Hudson Regional Hospital," said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy
"I am confident this change in leadership will allow the Bayonne Medical Center to continue providing quality healthcare services to Hudson County residents.”
Bayonne Medical Center is located at 29 East 29th Street in Bayonne
Moshe previously said he has plans to remodel the Bayonne Medical Center ER
Hudson Regional Hospital is a community hospital located in Secaucus; Moshe says its mission "is to build a healthier community by providing exceptional care for all residents in the tri-state area."

NJ — The Secaucus Walmart was evacuated at around 1:30 Thursday due to a bomb scare
There were arrests for shoplifting at the Walmart in a separate incident
The bomb threat was phoned in to Secaucus Police directly
where two men broke into a home on Grace Avenue at 2 a.m
and were confronted by a woman who lives in the home
on Thursday — the day after the break-in — Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli said he spoke at length with the woman
but otherwise unharmed after the encounter
It is believed they were seeking the keys to a car
that was parked in the driveway of the home
The men were confronted by a woman who lives in the home
The woman "startled them and also called the police," said Miller earlier this week
Secaucus Police responded and saw a car fleeing the scene
Police pursued the car onto the NJ Turnpike
"due to the manner the vehicle was being operated
"This is happening in towns all over New Jersey," said Gonnelli Thursday

NJ — While there are still mail-in ballots to be counted
Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli said he considers his selection of Melissa Howard
Gerry Lyons and Tatiana Geller to be the winners of the Secaucus school board race
Lyons and Geller declared victory on Facebook Tuesday night
Jamie Fisher and Monica Berckes have all since conceded
As of Wednesday morning, here are the current vote counts from the Hudson County Board of Elections:
"Lyons is ahead by one thousand votes," said Gonnelli at 10 a.m
Gonnelli endorsed the three winning candidates
but he declined to comment on whether his winning endorsement is a sign of his popularity in Secaucus
I don't want to sound like I'm full of myself," said the mayor
"But there was a need for change on the school board
I am not going to bother them (the three candidates he endorsed)
I am glad the people did what they did; now let's hope they do a good job."
Yule (this is her second time running, without success, for a seat on the Secaucus school board) posted a concession statement to her Facebook account late Tuesday
"Thank you to everyone who supported me through the campaign for a seat on the SBOE
While I wasn’t successful at securing a seat
I did grow as an individual and met many great community members along the way
Cheers to the new board members and future success for our district!"
Fisher posted a statement here
"I did my absolute best and have zero regrets," she said
this is also Berckes' second time seeking a seat on the board
She also conceded on Facebook, but did say the election was "tainted" in a post to the Secaucus Public Schools Parents Facebook page
She means presumably by the mayor's involvement and his public endorsement of candidates
Giraldo also said the race became much more difficult once Gonnelli publicly endorsed candidates
"Being on the board wasn’t in my cards just yet; nonetheless
I am very proud of the results," Giraldo said Thursday
and I knew it was a long shot with the mayor's endorsement against us…
and voted for me in this tainted election," wrote Berckes Tuesday night
I don’t need to have a seat on the board to keep the pulse on our schools and be your eyes and ears
I will continue to challenge and contribute always for our kids
There’s another election one short year away."
"I have nothing to say to that," replied Gonnelli
I like Monica Berckes a lot; I like Valerie
Mayors support Board of Education candidates all over the place
I had to do it this year because there is a lot of stuff going on that has to be straightened out."
Berckes said she did not want to elaborate Wednesday
But she did say: "I’m looking very forward to the three seat winners moving our district forward
I’ll continue to be informed and involved as I have for the last 15 years
The "superintendent issue" is the most pressing matter facing the district, said Gonnelli. He also said "a report should be out relatively soon," meaning a report on the allegations made against current superintendent Erick Alfonso. These mysterious allegations are why the current BOE put Alfonso on paid leave in March. As Patch reported last week
Alfonso has been paid more than $106,000 in the past nine months he has not worked
and he continues to be paid daily by Secaucus taxpayers
Gonnelli said he did not know if that report will be made public
"That I don't know," he said Wednesday morning
Lyons and Geller all declared victory Tuesday night on Facebook
"Tatiana and Gerald would like to thank Mayor Gonnelli, the Secaucus City Council, and the Secaucus community for their support for us for the Secaucus School Board. We look forward to serving our community with transparency and open communication to make our Secaucus schools the best they can be," said Geller/Lyons here
"I am incredibly grateful and honored to have been elected to continue to serve on the Secaucus Board of Education ..
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mayor Gonnelli for his support and confidence in me ..
Congratulations Gerald and Tatiana," Howard said in part
Howard will keep her seat on the Board; Lyons and Geller will take their seats in January
taking the seats currently held by Leah Farinola and Abigail Gonzalez

at a February 2024 Secaucus Board of Education meeting
NJ — Former Secaucus superintendent Erick Alfonso will be paid a total of $183,977 after the school board placed him on paid leave last March
according to an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request filed by Patch
"The total amount the Secaucus school district will pay Erick Alfonso from March 20
2025 is $183,977," said the school district March 4
The Secaucus school board put Alfonso on paid leave last March and has been paying his $184,500-yearly salary ever since, even though he has not worked. The Secaucus school board voted March 11, 2024 to place Alfonso on paid leave
The Secaucus school district will pay Alfonso his salary through April 21
The board placed Alfonso on leave while it investigated allegations against him
The Board has never revealed what those allegations were
on the advice of Secaucus school district lawyer Stephen Fogarty
the Board of Education paid an additional $13,250 to an outside investigator named Peter Fallon to investigate these mysterious allegations against Alfonso
Fallon took nearly a year to do his investigation
He completed his investigation in February and submitted a report to the school district
Patch's OPRA request to see that report was denied
under the argument that Alfonso is entitled to privacy as a school district employee
(Accusations against public school employees are rarely made public
unless they rise to the level of criminal charges.)
"Personnel records shall not be made available for public access
length of service and date of separation."
Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli said of Fallon's report:
"I haven't read it." But — "There was not enough in that report to get rid of him
They had no reason to get rid of him," said the mayor
Gonnelli previously said the way this was handled has been "totally ridiculous and a waste of taxpayer money," and that he was "very disappointed in the Board of Education members."

Board lawyer Steven Fogarty is to his right
NJ — Here is a breaking news update on former Secaucus schools superintendent Erick Alfonso
who the school board put on paid leave last March and has been paying a $184,500-yearly salary ever since
This was voted on and approved by the Secaucus school board at their meeting Thursday night, which you can watch here. The resolution about Alfonso — R1.20 — is listed in the meeting agenda here
The Secaucus school board voted to place Alfonso on paid leave March 11
The board did this while it investigated allegations against him
But he has been paid his full salary ever since
according to salary documents obtained by Patch
So he is leaving his contract one year early
In addition to paying Alfonso his full salary while he has not worked for the past year, the Secaucus school district — on the advice of the board's lawyer, Stephen Fogarty —then paid $13,250 to hire a lawyer to investigate the mysterious complaints made against Alfonso
The Secaucus Board of Education hired a lawyer named Peter Fallon
depending on the length of his investigation
which at the last point we checked had gone on for eight months
Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli said Fallon's report is completed and turned into the school board
But he did say: "There was not enough in that report to get rid of him
That report is likely not available to the public
but Patch will file an OPRA request for it (Open Public Records Act)
We will also file an OPRA request to get the dollar amount Secaucus schools paid Alfonso in total

NJ — Secaucus recently filed a lawsuit challenging its county tax ratio
The town of Secaucus said it was "pleased to report our efforts were successful" and the lawsuit will result in a reduction of approximately $1.5 million from the overall amount the town of Secaucus has to pay in taxes to Hudson County for 2025
That is $1.5 million the town of Secaucus does not have to pay in taxes to the county and can instead use for other purposes
Hudson County charges a tax to Secaucus and other towns for services it provides to the towns
Gonnelli and the Secaucus town CFO said they thought the assessed tax rate was too high
and that's why they challenged it — successfully — in court
"This is a tremendous tax savings to our residents and business community," said Gonnelli
"We are very happy with the outcome of this tax litigation
and this is just another example of how my administration continuously works for the benefit of our community."

NJ — People in Secaucus catfished a man online into thinking he would be meeting with a 15-year-old girl
and the man was arrested by Secaucus Police
Saturday at the Osprey Cove apartment complex at 45 Meadowlands Parkway and charged with endangering the welfare of a child
exhibiting obscene material to someone under 18 and criminal attempt to commit luring or enticing a child
Secaucus Police said this was "a couple of vigilantes" who purported online to be a 15-year-old girl
They chatted with the Queens man online and told him to come to Secaucus
where he "intended on meeting who he reasonably believed to be a 15-year-old female for sex," said police
It is unknown if the people lived in Osprey Cove apartments
but that is where they told the man to meet them
except the vigilante(s) intended the meeting to occur here," said Police Chief Dennis Miller
"They engaged in a conversation with the male online
They have no affiliation and were not directed by law enforcement
I am not a proponent of this kind of vigilante operation
the on-scene investigation developed ample probable cause
The man was given a complaint summons and was released from police custody

He said he was very happy to see a grocery store open instead
"But in order to make the mayor and Council's dream come true for a supermarket in this town
I forgoed the townhouse development and sought out a supermarket tenant because this was the only spot available in the center of town suitable for a community grocery store."
The property is owned by J&A Managing Estates LLC
Patel owns several large tracts of land in Secaucus
