inning while keeping the remaining damage to a minimum Such was the case for Central Mountain junior Darius Shade In Friday’s conference matchup against Selinsgrove Shade entered the game with the Wildcats facing a 3-0 deficit with Seal runners on first and third Central Mountain (5-0) would get out of the hole as Roust fired a laser to second baseman Jase Seltzer just before Selinsgrove’s Jonathan Neidig stole second with the momentum still on its opponent’s side holding the Seals at bay as the Wildcats chipped away at the deficit “I was just trying to get out of the inning,” said Shade he’d hold the Seals to just one run as the Central Mountain bats steadily caught fire They’d tie it with three runs in the second post the last lead change with three in the fourth before sealing it with an eight-run barrage in the sixth defeating Selinsgrove 14-4 in six innings to improve to 5-0 on the season we did really well and came in clutch today,” said Shade on the win it’s really hard to play with us.” Selinsgrove remained in the game until late making Shade’s performance from the mound all the more important It wasn’t a matter of getting out of the jam and letting the offense take over and every scoreless inning proved necessary He’d shake off a leadoff hit in the second forcing a pop out against Selinsgrove leadoff batter Griffin Parker before striking out the next two to keep the Wildcats three runs away from tying it With Central Mountain doing just that through the ensuing half Shade proceeded to protect the tie with three strikeouts in the third Outside of an occasional hit here and there his lone blemish came in the fourth when two wild pitches allowed Selinsgrove to briefly take back the lead catching Gavin Landis looking on a full count retiring the side in the fifth and stranding Selinsgrove’s lone runner in the sixth Shade pitched four scoreless innings – in the second posted one retirement and never faced more four batters in an inning He finished with nine strikeouts to four hits and zero issued walks and an ERA of 1.76 through 5 1/3 innings pitched “Defense really didn’t have to do much for him He just shut it down,” said Central Mountain centerfielder Isaiah Maldonado on Shade’s performance “I think my curveball worked really well kept them off balance,” said Shade when asked what was working for him I put trust in my defense and do what they do Maldonado and right fielder Brady Lavelle led the charge combining for 3 doubles and 7 RBIs and overall just representing the team’s top of the order well all three of those doubles came in pivotal moments With two runners on and two outs on the board in the second Maldonado drilled a flyball straight up the middle and over the head of Selinsgrove’s centerfielder getting both runners home to get his team on the scoreboard with a two-RBI double Lavelle followed him up by batting him home with a grounder to left and suddenly “Hit the ball up the middle and was just trying to get that runner at second to score,” said Maldonado on his mindset heading into that at-bat with two outs on the board “Took the opposite field gap and we had some speed on the bases one runner on third and two outs on the board That situation produced a near-identical outcome as he delivered another uncatchable fly ball deep into right center Lavelle received some help from a Selinsgrove throwing error and Blake Walker followed him up with an RBI double as the Wildcats went into the fifth with a 6-4 lead “Came off a rough game yesterday where I was horrible at the plate and was just trying to hit the ball up the middle That’s every approach,” said Maldonado on his performance While Maldonado’s doubles helped Central Mountain establish control Lavelle’s effectively broke the game open With the bases loaded in the sixth and Selinsgrove’s bullpen reeling forcing the Seal outfield to chase it and ultimately clearing the bases to give the Wildcats a 9-4 Though the Seals would secure two outs from there Central Mountain notched five more runs within the next nine at-bats with the game sealer being scored thanks to a dead ball with the bases loaded with second baseman Jase Seltzer making it three to log multiple and two of his three runs occurring while the team was trailing Gavin Karstetter (1-of-1) and Hunter Hoy (run well-rounded win for a team that’s quickly building up momentum in the early goings of the season and it’ll look to keep that success going as it prepares for more league competition starting with a home matchup against Shikellamy (1-4) on Monday Top Selinsgrove hitters: Dominic Santer 2-3 2 RBIs; Brennan Kline 2-3; Jonathan Neidig 1-3 Top Central Mountain hitters: Isaiah Maldonado 3-4 Records: Selinsgrove 1-5 (1-1 at the bottom of this page Though a 21-yard touchdown connection from Zion Hughes to Trey Damschroder put the Millionaires up 17-7 deep in the third those in attendance at Millionaire Stadium knew the game was far from over Selinsgrove’s rushing attack had steadily begun covering more ground starting at the tail end of the first half And through the final 15 minutes of game time With Williamsport doing all it could to protect its undefeated record the Seals did just enough to come out on top outscoring the Millionaires 14-3 in the fourth quarter and sealing the 21-20 win with a forced fumble near midfield It was a heartbreaking loss for a team on the cusp of its third 5-0 start in two decades but coach Michael Pearson was still proud of his team for leaving it all out on the field and gave Selinsgrove credit for an incredible effort hard football game,” said Pearson on the battle “I’m really proud of our class our grit and our determination to fight all night I thought our kids were very classy and did a good job with penalties but I know that this team gave it their very best tonight Despite having zero receptions on the night in a game where the Seals passed the ball just five times standout Selinsgrove receiver Gavin Bastian still left a clear mark on the game receiving his first touch midway through the second quarter on a four-yard rush and never looking back the senior rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts playing a crucial role in the team’s success on the ground through crunch time After Williamsport upped its lead to 20-14 early in the fourth quarter Bastian rattled off two outside runs to the right for 21 and 48 yards respectively reversing field on that second run to pick up an additional 20 he helped set the Seals up inside the redzone and they’d capitalize a few plays later with Bastian taking in the go-ahead score from two yards out for his second touchdown tote of the outing “The one thing that I worried about in preparation was if we would ever see Gavin Bastian as a Wildcat quarterback or as their quarterback,” said Pearson when discussing Bastian’s impact “When they rolled him out as the quarterback He’d also add runs of 22 and 15 yards on the preceding drive 80 yards) waltzing in untouched from eight yards out to cut the deficit to 17-14 on the first play of the fourth quarter Power back Ethan Miller added another 57 yards on the ground as the Seals finished the game with 300 rushing yards blue-collar kids and I give their linemen all the credit in the world,” said Pearson when discussing Selinsgrove’s proficiency on the ground “Their linemen were the difference in this game but it didn’t come without a vast array of positives Though he had issues with fumbles throughout the game putting the ball on the ground five times and seeing three of those go Selinsgrove’s way sophomore quarterback Zion Hughes (14-of-21 142 yards) showed flashes of what the team can expect from him moving forward he connected with Trey Damschroder and Aiden Everett for passes of 11 and 17 yards respectively he avoided the pass rush with his feet before finding Damschroder on a short crossing route past the marker with Damschroder doing the rest on the 21-yard score On the team’s ensuing field goal drive he and Everett connected for two first downs to set Parker Johnson up with a chip shot to make it 20-14 “I’m proud of him,” said Pearson on Hughes But there were a lot of plays that he gave us a chance on and he did a lot to give us the lead most of the night.” Special teams was arguably the biggest positive to come out of the loss Selinsgrove set up for a long field goal and Williamsport got a hand on it and Aiden Everett took it 70 yards back for a touchdown to give the Millionaires a 10-7 lead heading into half time And Parker Johnson went 2-for-2 on field goals of 23 and 27 yards and set Selinsgrove up inside its own five-yard line twice with well-placed punts and the help of his fielding team Parker gave us a chance and our special teams play gave us a chance,” said Pearson “I’m really proud of the blocked field goal and the return by Aiden Everett I thought he made a fantastic play.” The going doesn’t get easier as the Millionaires delve deeper into HAC-I play with matchups against Shamokin (5-0) and Jersey Shore on the horizon They’ll face the Bulldogs on the road next Friday hoping to build on what’s been a successful first half of the regular season “I thought this was a fantastic football game and we’re looking forward to just continuing to play,” said Pearson “We have some very serious goals and we’re on our way to those goals This three-week stretch will only make us a better team as long as we continue to work on fight.” Already a battle with brain cancer Tabby’s mother Jennifer thanked the community for all of the support they have shown to their family during this tragic time A district wide remembrance will be announced at a later date Team Tabby had more than 2,000 followers on Facebook with members supporting Tabby and the Welshan family since they learned of her inoperable brain tumor in January of 2024 Several fundraisers were planned to support the family Selinsgrove notes: No District 4 teams have played each other more times since 2013 than Selinsgrove and Jersey Shore This will be the 21st meeting during that time and these rivals have squared off in nine of the last 11 district championships Selinsgrove ended Jersey Shore’s five-year title reign last season becoming the first District 4 team to beat the Bulldogs since Southern Columbia in 2019 The Seals graduated a lot of decorated starters and have a new coach they remain a serious title contender and have shown a knack for reloading over the years The defense remains tough and shut down Juniata in a state quarterfinal rematch in the season opener Senior linebacker Ethan Miller has been one of the district’s premier players since his freshmen year and has 279 career tackles He has 24 tackles in his first two games this year Devon Mitchell and Tegan Minier have added sacks Brett Rice is one of several players who likely will receive carries tonight and showed his explosiveness against state-ranked Twin Valley a week ago returning a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown Quarterback Rocco Amato completed 10 of 17 passes for 123 yards Selinsgrove player to watch–Gavin Bastian: The senior receiver gave Jersey Shore fits in two games last season especially in the district final when he was a game breaker hauling in six catches for 159 yards and three touchdowns Bastian also scored in the regular season contest and went over 2,000 career receiving yards last week Jersey Shore notes: Jersey Shore is playing a defending district champion for a third straight week after winning thrillers against District 2’s Dallas and Delaware Valley the first two weeks Jersey Shore has come from behind in both games erasing a 14-point late third-quarter deficit at Dallas and a three-point second-quarter deficit against Delaware Valley The defense did not allow a point over the final 32 minutes against Delaware Valley and made a last-second stand inside the red zone to preserve victory Senior two-way lineman Slate Sechrist was a force in that game collecting five tackles for loss and a sack Zeke Sechrist added eight hurries and produced two sacks against Dallas while all-state linebacker Bo Sechrist made 14 tackles last Friday Elijah Jordan and Evan Snyder added an interception and fumble recovery Those two also have formed a potent passing duo Jordan has thrown four touchdowns in his first two starts at his new position while Snyder was one yard from his second consecutive 100-yard game last week Paul Hale and Luke Ryan also are dangerous as is Trent Severino who caught the game-winning touchdown with 43 seconds remaining at Dallas but Brodie Herr ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run for the game’s first points last week and Bo Sechrist scored the game-tying touchdown against Dallas Jersey Shore shared the HAC-I championship with Selinsgrove last year and has won at least a share of six straight league crowns Jersey Shore player to watch–Luke Thompson: After enjoying a breakout season a year ago Thompson has been a key part of Jersey Shore’s defensive success and made 13 tackles He was in on a sack against Delaware Valley and the junior also returned a fumble 10 yards against Dallas Outlook: Both teams certainly are as battle-tested as they come with each facing teams with each facing state-ranked and/or teams that went deep into states last fall in their first two games Both have the ability to get going offensively but these teams know each other so well and each has built their proud traditions upon stifling defense so here is thinking this will be a low-scoring We recognise you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area the restaurant is open The restaurant was evacuated briefly after the fire was reported around 6:30 p.m Firefighters reported a working fire on the second floor The owners of BJ’s Restaurant posted on social media they appreciated all of the prayers and that the fire was not serious The fire was contained to an office and did not spread to apartments on the third floor or the restaurant on the first floor Written by Mark Lawrence A large 20-inch sewage line rupture near the East Snyder County Sewage Treatment Facility on the south end of Selinsgrove in Snyder County is spilling raw sewage into the Penns Creek lower Middle Creek and then flowing into the Susquehanna River just above the Hoover Island boat launch area The rupture was found early Sunday and as of 3 p.m. authorities are still unsure when the pipe — which moves an average of two million gallons of sewage a day from communities including Selinsgrove Shamokin Dam and Penn Township — will be repaired “All residents of Shamokin Dam Borough and Selinsgrove Borough are requested to limit use until repairs can be made There is no estimated time of repair at this time,” according to a press release from the Snyder County Emergency Management Authority “Ways to limit use would be to not run the dishwasher until it is full This does not mean that you can’t use the toilet.” An emergency response team from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and officials from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission have been on the scene since late morning and excavators have been delivered to the site of the break which is located across Market Street from the Selinsgrove Speedway “I have been on site in numerous locations at the site and downstream and talking to my contacts at the DEP Fish and Boat and other groups responding to this,” said Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper John Zaktansky “Until things are fixed and the sewage impacts better evaluated it is highly recommended everyone uses common sense and stays off Penns Creek and the river below Selinsgrove There are plenty of places to fish and recreationally enjoy the river above this site “According to one of my contacts at the DEP there are no public intakes for drinking water off the river until the Dauphin area but we are still looking at a large amount of sewage potentially entering the waterway until that pipe is fixed and the area cleaned up.” but bubbling consistent with potential sewage pollution could be seen collecting along vegetation on the edge of the shore “Those bubbles and foaming in general can come from numerous non-sewage sources and last night’s heavy storms make it much harder to evaluate the impact of this event due to the higher water level sediment and lack of clarity already in the water flowing downstream,” he said be smart and avoid contact with the water until we can get some sampling done and a better idea of what the bacterial concentrations are at various parts of the river and potential impacts will be.” The Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association is once again hosting its HERYN (Helping Engage our River’s Youth .. JERSEY SHORE — There may be a set design each play but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to follow that path when Elijah Jordan goes under center But then Jordan will see a receiver cutting back as a defender barrels in and Jordan quickly spins out and takes off the other way His lineman may not always know where Jordan’s going on any given plan Fans saw that in action on Friday night at Thompson Street Stadium Jordan turned nothing into something time and time again and was a huge factor in Jersey Shore’s 48-7 rout over Selinsgrove in the District 4 Class AAAA semifinals the Bulldogs advance to face undefeated top-seed Shamokin the Bulldogs had the ball on the Selinsgrove 4 looking like he was going to call his own number That’s when he suddenly took a step back and threw opposite direction to a wide-open Luke Thompson in the back of the endzone for a 21-0 lead It was a display of Jordan’s pure athleticism as he ended Friday’s game going 10 for 22 for 165 yards with two touchdown passes and added 32 rushing yards “You now sometimes people are like ‘hey where’s he at How am I supposed to block?’ They might get him sometimes but he’s going to extend plays and make plays like he did,” Jersey Shore coach Tom Gravish said “Sometimes guys might say ‘he didn’t run where he was supposed to go,’ but hey he still got yardage.” Jordan’s 4-yard touchdown pass where he reversed direction helped get the Bulldogs’ offense rolling That 21-point lead turned into 28 points heading into the half the Bulldogs scored on a 55-yard fumble return by Brodie Herr and put the mercy-rule into effect There was no looking back from there as Jersey Shore kept its foot on the pedal “(Jordan) bailed us out with his own style got to give the line credit because they help with some really intense players on the other side,” Gravish said The third quarter belonged to Shore’s defense making highlight-reel plays Selinsgrove quarterback Roco Amato fumbled away the ball on a first-down play The Bulldogs would later pin Selinsgrove deep in its own territory to close out the third quarter Thompson made an outstanding play off the edge hitting Amato and forcing him to let go of the ball Owen Vandruff picked it off and ran it in 2 yards out for the touchdown giving Jersey Shore a dominating 41-7 lead “We think it really sets a tone for us really and helps our offense get going and gets the whole team going if we make the play on defense,” Thompson said Thompson was a thorn in Selinsgrove’s side all night had a quarterback hit which resulted in an interception return for a touchdown and routinely was pressuring Selinsgrove’s backs and Amato and it’s a huge reason why the Seals had just 56 rushing yards on 37 carries and 72 passing yards “Luke’s really going to a different level as the season’s progression he just works so hard,” Gravish said “He’s extremely coachable and it’s so great to see him have a night like that He had some key blocks out on the perimeter today.” Talyn Lope had one and Slate Sechrist had one Selinsgrove had just one redzone trip all game but didn’t walk away with points from it Selinsgrove also was just 3 for 13 on third-down conversions and 0 for 2 on fourth-down conversions we don’t like to really give those up but all in all they played lights out with two scores,” Gravish said “It feels great (to have three sacks and play well) but we have to look ahead to next week because it’ll be a better challenge next week,” Thompson noted Selinsgrove avoided the shutout when Jake Beddall reeled in a 58-yard pass from Amato for a deep touchdown getting past Shore’s secondary to cut the deficit to 41-7 Both teams played tough in the first quarter Jersey Shore was ahead just 7-0 after the first quarter thanks to a 21-yard touchdown run by Evan Snyder with 4:30 to play The Bulldogs’ first possession was just six plays which resulted in a punt before they lost a fumble after two plays on the next possession Jersey Shore started putting things togetehr the Bulldogs punted its next possession away But that would be followed with three consecutive touchdowns to build up the lead going into halftime Ethan Miller led
