the attorney representing her in a divorce case has been indicted for her death
According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office
51-year-old Gregory Moore is charged with one count of aggravated murder
six counts of murder and two counts of kidnapping
Gregory Moore is charged with the murder of Aliza Sherman
was killed in the middle of the day in downtown Cleveland on March 24
which was made public after Moore’s arrest
he allegedly lured Sherman to where he worked
The indictment alleges it was part of a plan that was hatched months earlier to kidnap her to avoid having her try her divorce case in court
As Sherman waited for someone to unlock the doors at Moore’s office building
“an individual who was either Moore or an unknown co-conspirator” approached Sherman
Moore also allegedly disconnected his phone from the cell network for three hours around the time of Sherman’s death in an attempt to avoid creating cell tower location evidence
He later turned his phone back on and made several calls to Sherman’s phone to cover his tracks
He then got a new phone a few days after her death
In 2017, he pleaded guilty to falsification for statements he made to police about his whereabouts during Sherman’s killing. He also admitted to calling in bomb threats in 2012 as a way to delay trials. His law license was suspended in 2017 and he resigned it the following year. He served six months in jail

Why do my husband and I go to Florida during the winter
and wherever you look there’s something tall and green
like a palm tree or a mojito or an alligator that’s standing on its back legs
But if I said those were the reasons we head south at the first WLNG frost alert
The truth is that once the temperature dips below a frigid 64 degrees
we cannot co-exist in the same enclosed space without multiple clenched-jaw discussions over what’s a reasonable indoor temperature
At one time we were temperature compatible
I am long past the “Is it hot or is it me?” stage of my life
Turn down the heat!” Unfortunately I’m saying it to the shivering person beside me who is wearing flannel and fleece and complains that he’s freezing
because we’re perfect together in so many ways
he shares his birthday with the Boy Scouts and I share mine with the Girl Scouts
once about politics when he was running for public office and said to me
“At least I know I’ve got your vote,” and I told him
“Not necessarily.” Apparently election eve is not a good time to crack a joke.)
ignoring the fact that he’s wearing his heavy jacket
When I’m not looking he cranks the dial until I ask
I’m burning up here!” And he suggests I take off some layers
a tee shirt and have a portable fan on a chain hanging around my neck
The problem (as I see it) is that he likes to keep the house heated to four degrees above hellfire and eternal damnation
whereas I prefer something in the upper 60s
you know — the temperature recommended by every healthcare professional in the world
Things at our house got really “heated” before we retired and spent long gray Shelter Island winters fighting over control of that little dial on the wall
Getting up and out of the chair to undo what the other one just did helped us meet our daily 10,000 steps goal without ever leaving the house
And from the chair to the thermostat is 18 steps
I know you won’t so I’ll tell you: that’s over 277 round trips
It got so bad we stopped going to bed at the same time
because he/she who stays up the latest gets the final turn of the dial
we’d wake to ice formations on the inside of the windows
the air took on a sub-tropical rain forest density and I’d wake up after my nasal passages shut down with a dry gummy mouth that felt like it was full of kitty litter
If he left the house I’d turn down the heat to just above see-your-breath
Years ago I bowled in the Women’s Winter Bowling League
and once a week as I backed down the icy driveway to head to the Legion
But I could see his left hand cranking that thermostat to the Dante’s-inferno setting
when I returned after three hours and opened the door
I was hit by a furnace blast of hot air that melted two feet of snow on the porch and nearly knocked me off my feet.
The outside half of the right one never did grow back
We returned to Shelter Island in early April
but it was still cold enough for WLNG frost warnings and new rounds of fights over the thermostat
It wasn’t the frigid Shelter Island weather that brought us back
We’ve returned to celebrate our grandson’s graduation from college

Ohio (WOIO) - Gregory Moore was secretly indicted on Friday for the murder and kidnapping of Aliza Sherman
Moore was indicted on charges of aggravated murder
MORE: Who is Gregory Moore? Former divorce attorney charged for murder of Aliza Sherman in downtown Cleveland
Aliza Sherman was violently stabbed outside of her divorce attorney
MORE: Who was Aliza Sherman? Victim stabbed to death in downtown Cleveland; Divorce attorney charged
Sherman arrived for a meeting with Moore outside his office at 55 Erieview Plaza in downtown Cleveland for her upcoming divorce trial
Sherman was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead
the scheme to kidnap Sherman began on January 3
The scheme began because the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office was looking into Moore’s cell phone usage in 2012 when bomb threats were called into courthouses where Moore was supposed to be in trial
The indictment said Moore exhibited a pattern of delaying court appearances scheduled with bomb threats
The indictment said Moore purchased a new cell phone when he learned of the new investigation
The indictment said prosecutors believe Moore planned the kidnapping of Sherman to delay her divorce trial
though the it is unclear why Moore wanted to delay the trial and why she was ultimately stabbed to death
Moore and Sherman texted back and forth setting up their meeting outside Moore’s office
“If u are here why don’t you let me in?” one text from Sherman to Moore said
The indictment said Moore was not inside Sherman Law office at the time of the text messages
the indictment said either Moore or an “unknown co-conspirator” approached Sherman from E
and chased her from 55 Erieview to 75 Erieview
Moore or his co-conspirator then stabbed Sherman over 10 times
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Cleveland Police conducted the investigation
Moore previously spent six 6-months in jail for lying to detectives about being inside his office building at the time of the murder
He sent Aliza text messages before and after her death
released a statement to 19 News after the arrest:
I am overwhelmed with relief that we are finally getting justice for Aliza in her unsolved murder
I’ve always felt that Gregory Moore was involved with Aliza’s murder

Justice For Aliza Sherman/Facebook; Williamson County
The little girl next door and I signed up for ballet classes at the same time
But that was OK because it turned out all I was really interested in were the tutus
and I happily wore them around the house until I outgrew them
we would go see her in The Nutcracker and whatever other ballets she performed in NYC
I thought she was very glamorous and lived an exciting life on stage
She was part of something beautiful that made people experience many emotions in just one performance
I think my early exposure to dance opened me up for my future in creating and producing theater
That’s when I realized the glamour and excitement of living a life making art are easily canceled out by the angst
I still love to watch ballet. And while I was not a fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s other shows, I loved Bunheads
but Sherman-Palladino and Prime Video have tried to make amends for that cancellation by giving us Étoile
Étoile is the story of sibling dance companies that trade company members for a season to shake things up and boost ticket sales
The Metropolitan Ballet Theater in NYC and The Ballet National in Paris
Jack (Luke Kirby) and Geneviève (Charlotte Gainsbourg)
Their relationship is what I would consider typical of a Sherman-Palladino show: supportive but argumentative
but the good of their company will always come first
The weight of multi-million dollar budgets and their organizations being seen as the crown jewels of their respective countries’ cultural institutions both bring them together and isolate them from each other and everyone around them
The arts are not known as a space that allows for healthy relationship building
Gainsbourg (Melancholia) is at her irritable best in this series
Frazzled and constantly concerned about the well-being of her company and her dancers
“De mauvaise humeur.” She has no time for feelings or emotions
But Charlotte Gainsbourg plays her with so much raw charm and humor that you’re forced to like her
Luke Kirby’s (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) Jack is overly sensitive and constantly stressed out by everything
He believes he’s cursed to die at 45 because every man in his family has before him
He’s dependent on the stability and consistent cheeriness of Nicholas
his Artistic Director (played by David Haig) to keep him from spiraling into emotional collapse
Gideon Glick (The Other Two) plays the stereotypical “artistic genius” choreographer for the New York Company
and when he’s “traded” to Paris
his obstacles include finding the “right” toothpaste
dealing with an unfamiliar living situation
All of the background dancers and some of the featured performers were cast from within the ballet community
But the stars of Étoile’s dance companies are French standouts performing archetypal roles
the “bad boy” who just needs a good reason to reform his behavior
a pawn in a game of egos being played between her mother
which sets her apart from the rest of the company
The pièce de résistance of the show is Lou de Laâge
who plays the petulant prima ballerina Cheyenne Toussaint
She reluctantly brings her extraordinary talent and terrible temper to New York after being dragged away from her most recent environmentalist crusade
De Laâge is an absolute delight to watch in her scenes and on the dance stage throughout the series
Raised by an emotionally absent mother and thrust into a spotlight she knows is temporary
She hides her insecurities behind abrasiveness
and when that façade cracks it shatters into a million pieces
It’s a strong performance by de Laâge
the same way The Metropolitan Ballet Theater is Cheyenne’s company the moment she walks through the doors
They both elevate the performances of their scene partners and command the audience’s attention with every move
Sherman-Palladino excels at building worlds out of dialogue and scenery we want to immerse ourselves in
And the insular world of professional ballet is its own character in Étoile
The spectacle and artistry of the performances she chose to include in the series are remarkable
The first season of Étoile is only eight episodes, and I ate them like a bag of candy over two days. It feels perfect, like the first season of Prime’s Reacher felt perfect
It is both intimate and expansive in its portrayal of a life lived solely focused on the arts
Sherman-Palladino creates beautiful moments that remind us that sometimes the angst
And it has already been picked up for a second season
Authorities arrested a former divorce attorney in the murder of an Ohio nurse who he had represented
the latest development in a case that had long eluded law enforcement
A grand jury on May 2 returned an indictment against 51-year-old Gregory J
a mother of four who was found stabbed outside Moore's law office in Cleveland
He was arrested in Austin, Texas, and faces charges of murder, conspiracy and kidnapping, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecuting Attorney's Office
His arrest is the first in Sherman's murder and comes years after Moore was sentenced to six months in jail for providing false statements about where he was when Sherman was killed
In an unsealed indictment
authorities claim Moore and at least one unnamed person had planned to kidnap Sherman to obstruct upcoming proceedings in her divorce case
"This goal was designed to be achieved by causing Aliza Sherman to be unavailable to attend the proceedings due to serious physical harm and/or death," the indictment says
Officials: Moore planned kidnapping to disrupt divorce trialThe scheme to kidnap and harm Sherman started when Moore found out the prosecutor's office was investigating several bomb threats that were called into courthouses where Moore was scheduled to be on trial
Investigators say Moore texted Sherman to meet him at his law office on March 24
she waited outside the locked office for more than an hour before deciding to walk back to her car to get out of the cold
an individual who was either Moore or an unknown co-conspirator approached Sherman ..
and then stabbed her over ten times," the indictment says
'The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers'After Sherman was fatally stabbed
Moore continued to text her phone "for the purpose of creating false evidence that Moore was unaware of Sherman's assault," according to the indictment
Sherman's divorce case was dismissed and Moore changed the phone number he used to communicate for his law practice to a different phone
“The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers regarding their mother’s homicide,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement
“Through the tenacious work of multiple law enforcement agencies

Ohio Attorney General David Yost said in a statement that agents have spent thousands of hours applying advanced technology to help solve the murder case
He thanked the Sherman family for their "trust

A Rockville preschool teacher was arrested April 25 as part of a child predator sting conducted by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) in Virginia
who worked at the Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington (Bender JCC) in Rockville
was taken into custody following an internet chat operation carried out during the week of April 21
The operation resulted in charges against eight men
Police said Sherman believed he was communicating with minors under the age of 15 during the operation
He has been charged with using communications systems to facilitate offenses involving children
“Protecting children from online predators is one of our highest priorities, and I commend our investigative team and partners for their diligent efforts in securing these arrests,” LCSO Sheriff Michael Chapman said in a statement
“These disturbing cases underscore the importance of parents actively monitoring what their children do online and on messaging platforms
and teaching them how to stay safe.”
Bender JCC immediately fired Sherman on April 25 after hearing of the arrest, according to a written statement from the school
He is prohibited from returning to Bender JCC in any capacity
“The arrest had no connection to any conduct that took place at Bender JCC,” the school said in the statement
“Sherman had no previous allegations made against him at the time of his hire
the Bender JCC conducted regular background checks and screenings during Michael Sherman’s employment that did not yield any prior misconduct.”

2025 that resulted in detectives obtaining charges on eight adult males who were trying to use the internet to exploit children in Loudoun County
According to a FOX 5 report
Sherman worked in several positions at the Bender JCC Rockville community center and was more recently a pre-school teacher
The Bender JCC immediately terminated his employment on the day of the arrest and notified parents about it

Kansas City Royals owner John Sherman has been publicly demanding a new stadium for two and a half years now
and one argument he has made is that the team’s future needs to be resolved by the time its lease runs out after the 2030 season
an expiring lease makes it easier for a team to threaten to leave town
but it then has to have somewhere to leave town for; if the only option is “if you don’t build us a new stadium we’ll go play in the street” — or in Sacramento — that’s not much of a threat
Government officials need to learn that they have leverage
too: There may be a limited number of pro sports teams to go around
but there are also a limited number of major metro areas
so team owners need cities as much as or more than cities need teams
and if the teams’ owners haven’t leaped to take it yet
they’re certainly going to remind Missouri politicians at every opportunity that it’s an option
it’s questionable how much of a threat that should really be: Royals and Chiefs fans could still go to games if they were just across the state line
and any Missouri tax losses from being cut out of team sales and income taxes would be more than offset by not having to shell out a couple billion dollars for stadium construction — and that’s if Sherman and Clark Hunt even really want to move their teams to Kansas
Maybe this would be a good topic for a followup article: “Would K.C.’s best option be calling Chiefs’ and Royals’ move threat bluff?” You can have the headline
The best leverage Sherman has is the team is actually decent this year and last
the team was so bad a move to Nashville might have not been noticed for several months
Put the Chiefs in Kansas and other than a few die-hard Missouri chauvinists (really not a thing) no one will care
Having lived in Houston I doubt the utility of a downtown ballpark
The Houston downtown started showing life on its west side first
This is why I don’t understand why the City of Cleveland is putting up such a big fight to keep the Browns from moving literally 1000 feet from the city line
There’s a major league sized stadium in Oakland…a KC team has moved there before
Sherman will probably end up staying at Royals Stadium but the taxpayers will end up paying the 3/8% sales tax forever
The Chiefs and Royals will continue to use the tax for operating expenses instead of maintaining the stadiums
We can take comfort in knowing that all our Missouri side politicians can continue to watch football in a taxpayer funded warm suite and not be subjected to the elements like ordinary fans
If baseball were still more central to our culture
it’s entirely possible that “go play in Sacramento” would become a universally-recognized polite way to say “go f*** yourself”
You could try to make that catch on anyway

Gregory Moore at a hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in 2016.Marvin Fong/Plain Dealer
The arrest marked a stunning twist to a case that has gone unanswered for years
Prosecutors said Moore lured Sherman to the Stafford Law Co
An indictment unsealed Friday charges Moore with aggravated murder
“The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers regarding their mother’s homicide,” Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement
He called Sherman’s death a “brutal murder.”
Police responded to a call about a screaming woman about 5:30 p.m
to find Sherman with injuries to her torso
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation spent thousands of hours applying advanced technology to help solve the case
Moore had a history of calling in bomb threats to courthouses where he was scheduled to be in trial in order to delay proceedings
In 2017, Moore pleaded guilty to two counts of inducing panic and a misdemeanor count of falsification related to bomb threats and misleading statements he made to detectives during the Sherman investigation. He was sentenced to six months in prison
Shortly thereafter the Ohio Supreme Court suspended Moore’s law license
After Moore “and at least one other unnamed individual” learned he was under investigation
he hatched a different scheme to delay Sherman’s divorce trial
which he was unprepared for: He sought to kidnap her
The indictment includes messages between Moore and Sherman that show he summoned her to the law office
she repeatedly asked Moore when he would arrive before he eventually responded with a “been here,” according to the indictment
Sherman messaged that she was returning to her car about 5:22 p.m.
chased her … and then stabbed her over 10 times,” the indictment reads
Prosecutors said the man Sherman was seeking to divorce was not a person of interest and has since died
Moore had swiped into the law office about 3:51 p.m.
but he either did not enter the building or left prior to Sherman’s arrival
It says he returned to the building about 7:30 p.m
through an unobserved entrance and messaged Sherman after the attack to mislead investigators
a Stafford law employee deleted a voicemail left by Sherman without making it available to law enforcement
Moore told Cleveland police homicide investigators he was in his office when Sherman sent him the messages and walked down to let her in but she was gone
Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer attempted to reach the law firm
Court records showed no attorney for Moore on Friday
He’s expected to be arraigned in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court at a later date

Gregory Moore allegedly killed Aliza Sherman to avoid going to court

An Ohio divorce attorney has been arrested for allegedly murdering a client in 2013 to avoid trying her case in court
Aliza Sherman, 53, was waiting outside Gregory Moore’s downtown Cleveland office when she was fatally stabbed on March 24 of that year. Moore, 51, was the woman’s attorney.
Though security footage at the time caught a hooded man running from the scene, police didn’t make an arrest until Friday, when Moore was indicted on one count of aggravated murder, one count of conspiracy, six counts of murder and two counts of kidnapping.
Moore does not have an attorney assigned to his case, court records show.
An indictment obtained by NBC News states Moore texted Sherman on the day she was killed and told her to meet him at his office at 4.30 p.m. and to let him know when she was leaving.
According to police information, Sherman waited outside the building as “Moore or an unnamed conspirator” approached her from behind and fatally stabbed her more than 10 times. Moore allegedly texted and called Sherman before and after her death.
“These texts and requests for calls were for the purpose of creating false evidence that Moore was unaware of Sherman’s assault,” the indictment states.
Moore allegedly killed Sherman to prevent her divorce trial from proceeding, according to the grand jury’s indictment.
The trial was supposed to start the following day.
Sherman, a nurse, left behind four children.
In addition to the murder, police said Moore was being investigated for bomb threats sent to the courthouse on days he had to appear in court, also to avoid proceedings he was involved with. The attorney reportedly knew cops were investigating him for the threats.
In 2017, he pleaded guilty to inducing panic and falsification for giving authorities misleading statements as they investigated Sherman’s death.
Moore is set to be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.

“She was my hero,” daughter Jennifer Sherman told Cleveland Magazine in 2017
She was the most selfless person I have ever known
who did everything to help other people and lift other people up without ever expecting anything in return.”

Jennifer Sherman was at the end of a long Sunday study session when she received a text message from her 17-year-old brother
“Are you with Mom or do you know where she is?”
had gone out and promised to bring back pizza
Jennifer had silenced her phone while cramming for a pharmacology exam at Case Western Reserve University
Her mother sent a text message around 2:55 p.m
at his downtown Cleveland office to discuss final preparations for her divorce proceedings in a couple of days
But when Jennifer noticed it was 7:45 p.m.
She could count on one hand the days they didn’t talk to one another
So she called Jeremy back to figure out where their mother could have gone
Aliza had told Jeremy she was headed to their grandmother’s house in Cleveland Heights to get some medicine and run errands
she kept a home nearby for when she’d visit
So Jennifer put on a pair of slippers and ran to her car wearing nothing but a pair of gray pajama pants and a fleece hoodie
Jennifer tried to sort out the possibilities
Maybe Aliza never went to Doris’ house in Cleveland Heights
She always tried to protect Jeremy from the divorce that left her emotionally and physically worn down
so it was possible Aliza used her mother’s house as an excuse
Or maybe Aliza drove to Doris’ first
got in a car accident and never made it downtown
Perhaps she simply misplaced her cellphone and would be home shortly
Jennifer continued to dial between her mother’s cell hoping she would answer
Doris had been trying to reach Aliza for hours
Aliza’s brother Harry wasn’t having any luck either
It was the reason she worked as an in vitro fertilization nurse at the Cleveland Clinic
third and fourth chances at building families of their own
It was why she continued living with her soon-to-be ex-husband
for nearly a year-and-a-half after she filed for divorce.
As Jennifer approached Warrensville Center and Cedar roads
Cleveland police officers were on their way to the Beachwood house
Jennifer made a U-turn across the four busy lanes and frantically called her then-boyfriend Kevin Rivchun to tell him the news
He was visiting his parents’ house nearby and was on his way to meet her
they converged on Jennifer’s childhood home on Penshurst Drive
25-year-old Jennifer had distanced herself from her father
She was furious at him for how he treated Aliza
how he had handled himself throughout the divorce proceedings and further fractured their family
As Kevin pulled behind her in the driveway
grabbed Jeremy and pulled him out of the house
they sat in her car at the end of the driveway
the ground covered in a thin blanket of snow
Jennifer’s thoughts raced about what might have happened
about how close her mother was to starting over
she reached for the detective’s coat with both hands and pulled the officer close
“What happened to my mother?” she asked

Throughout a journey that spanned times of plenty and times of want
Thomas Sherman always held his loved ones close
and he was always willing to go above and beyond to serve others in any way he could
Nothing brought Tom greater joy than surrounding himself with his friends and family
he could also strike up a conversation or crack a joke with just about anyone
Tom will be forever missed by those who knew him best
The late 1940s were an exciting time to be an American
Following the end of WWII a short time before
countless servicemen were reunited with their families
As we started to heal as a country and a world
the economy was flourishing and the baby boom was underway
Warren and Margaret (McKee) Sherman of Paw Paw
were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby
Tom was a typical young man of his generation in many ways
He was raised in the family home alongside his two sisters
Tom remained close with a tight-knit group of friends from kindergarten
The bunch were often known to get into mischief when they were younger
then went on to pursue further education at Michigan State University
All who knew Tom would certainly agree that
Tom was delighted to become a grandfather to Trevor
Tom considered himself fortunate to once again find love with Jill Brindley
The two both lived on Pleasant Lake in Three Rivers
and they would connect their pontoon boats in the summer with other neighbors
Tom’s sense of humor won her over and their attraction to each other kept growing stronger
stepping into 15 wonderful years as husband and wife
Tom built a successful career that he could be proud of
He was the Vice President of Marketing at MI Gas
Tom’s work sometimes called him to Washington DC
A big part of his job was testifying on the new rate changes
Although the government committees made him nervous
and it allowed him to provide for himself and those who depended on him
He created a terrace outside the picture window in his home to show off his favorite plantings
Tom enjoyed watching game shows and sports on TV
and he was an avid golfer as long as his health permitted
His brother-in-law worked for the Miami Dolphins
so Tom and Jill were able to enjoy trips to their practice facility and games
Many blissful weekends were spent on the pontoon boat
soaking up the sun and the company of neighbors
Tom and Jill enjoyed traveling the country together
They took many cruises to Hawaii and Alaska
were some of their favorite places to visit
They also loved escaping to their home in Florida
Tom could always find someone to talk to (including Charlie)
When reflecting on the rich life of Thomas Sherman
it is easy to see that he understood the secret to making the most of every moment
