- The YMCA of Northwest Louisiana has begun construction of its new tournament-grade youth baseball and softball complex
The facility with eight fields will encourage participation of local play and attract travel teams from across the ArkLaTex and beyond
The project is finally beginning phase two
after a year-long delay to complete a wetland mitigation process
YMCA CEO Gary Lash says that Shreveport is the perfect place for this new complex due to its geographic advantage
"I checked with some people about the economic impact of that and both groups came back to me and said 'Y'all are gonna knock it out of the park' because of our geographic location," said Lash
"We have I-49 that's a north/south venue and I-20 that's east/west."
Lash expects the baseball and softball complex to be finished within the next nine to 12 months
He hopes competition continues to grow not only for travel ball players but local players in the Shreveport area
"Dallas is six to seven hours from Jackson
because we're so centrally located," said Lash
"But it has to be nice for people to come in."

(KSLA) - Coyote’s Bar and Grill is transforming into a gothic nightclub for a night during an event hosted by the Vampyre Court of Shreveport
On May 10, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Shreveport’s very own Vampyre Court (VCS) will be hosting its own gothic experience at Coyote’s Bar and Grill
Coyote’s was primarily a biker bar originally
and are branching out and showing everyone their new look
and we are going to be one of their featured events to help bring new people into the bar,” says Jamie Fisher
“We are going for something kinda dark and ethereal, but also something with good beats for us to dance to,” says Tiffany Pennywell
DJ Ronster Monster will be hosting the musical journey through the night. Additionally, Lustrious Cabaret will be in attendance
He’s been featured at Bear’s and other places throughout the years,” says Fisher
“Not only are you kinda highlighting the area’s gothic subculture
but you’re also bringing in artists that have that same vibe for your culture as well,” says Brittney Hazelton
“We are really big about having the community involved,” says Pennywell
“We have a little bit of a dark side to ourselves as well
We are able to tap into any and everything,” explains Shaina Renay about featured artists
The featured artists are all on the darker side
“We got a small selection of vendors this time
they are gonna bring their collection of art and oddities
A lot of it is a little on the darker side to fit with the evening
Some of the more bizarre type of artwork and collectables you might be able to find,” says Fisher
Moonlit Artisans
Ogletree’s Oddities
Blanket Fort Creations
Lustrious Cabaret
The Vampyre Court of Shreveport was established as a safe place for those who enjoy the vampire and gothic subcultures
Art often is a heavy influence in subcultures like the gothic or vampyres
art has always been a huge part of my life
I’ve always been a huge fan of all types of music
I will just sit around for hours listening to music,” says Fisher
It has transformed into visual art for me as well
I love incorporating the literature with the visual as well
I have masters in film and bachelors in theatre
Theatre opened so many doors for me that I didn’t know was out there,” explains Renay
You had the bordello and the ladies in the back
the Court is opening itself to those who want to experience the music
and overall vibe that vampires and goths enjoy so much
as well as give others within that culture to meet other like-minded individuals
Twin Blends digs for treasures at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of CommerceMark and Mike Mangham of Twin BlendsWe made a post awhile back about finding old coins at the Greater Chamber of Commerce on the outside lawn while they were doing some re-sodding
but most people don’t know that we’ve also been secretly digging (with permission of course) underneath the building itself
president of the Greater Chamber Of Commerce
had contacted him and told him that while the maintenance men were doing repairs in the basement of their building
they had broken through a wall and discovered a crawlspace and a cistern under the north side of the building
A cistern is an old underground or partially underground tank used for storing water
Magner asked Cram if he and Twin Blends would be interested in exploring the crawlspace
owned a home on that spot starting about 1886
that home was torn down and the Shreve Memorial Library was built
the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce moved in
we’ve found several amazing old photos of that house and of the library at the Northwest Louisiana Archives at LSUS
with our digging clothes on and shovels in hand
we crawled through the 4-foot by 4-foot opening in the wall to see what we could find
There was only about 31/2-foot height clearance at the most
As we got in there and were crawling around
we suddenly realized that the ‘ground’ that we were on was actually the foundation of the Jules Dreyfuss house
It was sitting under the Greater Chamber of Commerce all of these years
We all put our masks on because it was dusty down there and Jason and Tony immediately jumped into the cistern and started digging
Tony and Jason found a Roussel’s ceramic shaving cream jar lid that dates back to the 1850s
They also found a finial to a wrought iron fence post that most likely lined the Jules Dreyfuss property
Mike and I were digging in the dirt that we were sitting and laying on that was on top of the Jules Dreyfuss foundation
Mike unearthed an almost pristine Bogel & Duringer medicine bottle
We later learned that Bogel & Duringer operated a drug store at 21 Milam St
Other things that we found were three mortise locks
These more than likely come straight off of the Jules Dreyfuss house
We were touching the same doorknobs that Jules Dreyfuss and his family used more than 100 years ago
We’re not finished digging at that location and plan to go back soon
We love uncovering Shreveport’s history and had no idea that such an old part of that history was just hiding
The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has released the 2024 “report cards” for Shreveport and Bossier City’s water systems
Although the two cities are very close to each other
they have separate water systems that got very different “grades.”
The water system took the biggest hit for infrastructure deficiencies noted during inspections
The report says these deficiencies could lead to unsafe drinking water and/or water service disruption
Shreveport’s water system also got low marks for customer satisfaction and federal water quality
The only positive on Shreveport’s report card was for having an asset management plan
a storage assessment and maintenance program
and for participating in management training or a capacity development program
Shreveport Water Grade 2024
Bossier City’s water system received an A grade for 2024
The biggest deficiency noted in the report was for customer satisfaction
Points were deducted for customer complaints received by the water system and/or LDH
which are confirmed to be a water quality or quantity issue in the water system

navigating the streets safely is paramount
To assist motorists in safely navigating through post-storm challenges
Treat traffic lights as four-way stops: If traffic lights are out due to power failures or damage
the vehicle to the right has the right of way
Reduce speed and increase distance: Roads may be slick and debris-strewn after a storm
Reduce your speed and increase following distance to allow for unexpected obstacles or sudden stops
Stay informed: Keep abreast of road closures
and weather updates through local news sources or official channels
Avoid unnecessary travel in heavily affected areas
Use headlights and signals: Ensure your vehicle's headlights are on
to increase visibility for yourself and other drivers
Use turn signals well in advance to communicate your intentions
Watch for fallen debris: Be vigilant for fallen trees
Proceed with caution and report any hazards to local authorities
Avoid flooded areas: Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways
as water depth can be deceiving and pose significant dangers
Patience is key: Traffic congestion and delays may be inevitable during post-storm cleanup efforts

and finished with 73 pitches – 44 for strikes
McMurry got on the board first as LF Aliyah Tanguma delivered a sacrifice fly to score C Maya Mongelli to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning
DP Reaghan Staehely singled to open the inning and Mongelli followed with a bunt single to put runners at first and second with no outs
RF Tristyn Barton then reached on a fielder's choice but junior LF Laine Sullivan (Prairieville, La.) threw to senior C Abby Touchet (Shreveport
La.) to cut down Staehely at the plate as Mongelli advanced to third on the throw and Barton went to second
Tanguma then followed with her two-out sac fly but Shepherd struck out SS Samantha Gonzales to end the inning
The Ladies answered immediately with a big third inning, scoring five runs and all five coming with two outs. Junior RF Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) flew out to begin the inning and sophomore CF Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville
Texas) laid down a perfect bunt that dribbled down the third base line and stopped just short of the chalk and by the time 3B Elaina Herrera arrived
the speedy Sandmann was already across the bag
La.) then drew a walk after an impressive and patient at-bat to load the bases
Sullivan then delivered arguably the Ladies' biggest at-bat to date as she worked a full count and then came through with a ringing triple to center to clear the bases and give the Ladies a 4-1 lead. Fulps then came in for McClellan and sophomore DP Taylor Good (Flower Mound
Texas) greeted her with an RBI single to score Sullivan for a 5-1 lead
Shepherd walked Herrera to begin the bottom of the third and CF Mercedes Camacho reached in on an error by Rivero to put runners at first and second with no outs
was not bothered as she retired the next three War Hawks in order to escape the mini-jam
The Ladies added a final insurance run in the top of the seventh Crow came through with a clutch, two-out RBI single to score pinch-runner Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs
Sheperd retired nine in a row until walking Mongelli to begin the bottom of the seventh as she set the War Hawks down in order from the fourth through the sixth innings
Barton singled after the walk to Mongelli but Shepherd retired Tanguma on a fly out for the first out of the inning and then struck out pinch-hitter Sabrina Graf for the second out
She then closed out her impressive CG by getting Herrera on a routine fly ball to Sullivan in left
Shepherd was on her game and frustrated McMurry all afternoon
silencing them for four innings in a row and after allowing consecutive hits to start the second inning
she did not allow another hit until Barton's hit in the seventh
Five Ladies posted multi-hit games, led by Sandmann with three. Good, Touchet, Crow, and junior 1B Abigail Hodgson (Florence
Texas) each had two Stokes and Sullivan each had one
and Sullivan led the way in the RBI category with three followed by one each from Crow
