The Rite Aid store on Sicklerville Road in Winslow is closing
with its last day of operating set for today Wednesday April 30th. Starting May 1st any prescriptions will be transferred to CVS at 589 Berlin Cross Keys Road (Intersection with Walgreens
I stopped over yesterday to confirm the news directly with the store which is located close to the Williamstown-New Freedom Rd intersection… a “Super” Wawa is located directly across the street from the Rite Aid
Looking at Google Maps, while this is a somewhat built up commercial area with a new larger apartment complex recently developed… there are no other large national pharmacy stores in the immediate area but an Express Savings Pharmacy is located very close
somewhat across the street in a small strip mall shopping center
While I saw this news posted on local town Facebook groups, it was also reported several days ago at the Townsquare Media Radio Station websites
In those articles Townsquare articles they also list that the Brooklawn New Jersey store was closing… but I reached out to the local Brooklawn store who said Brooklawn is not closing and in fact have been receiving merchandise from other area Rite Aids that are closing
it seems the status of any Rite Aid store can change on short notice
Through 2024 Rite Aid was going through a well publicized bankruptcy proceeding but announced in September of 2024 that they had successfully moved out of bankruptcy
Despite that positive outlook customers have noted shelves have remained noticeably thin on inventory in some areas, and additional store closings have been taking place (with many former locations already grabbed up by other retailers!)
Another store expected to close is in Wildwood (New Jersey Ave) where as reported by the popular Wildwood Video Archive website
convenience store chain Wawa plans on developing a new “Doo Wop” themed Super Wawa on the New Jersey Avenue Rite Aid property
For my visit yesterday at the Sicklerville Road Rite Aid a sign on the window simply stated that prescriptions starting May 1st would be available at the Berlin Cross Keys Rd
There were no store “Store Closing” banners on the building like we’ve seen for other locations during the earlier bankruptcy proceedings
I chatted with store employees and management who confirmed that today (April 30th) was the last day for the Sicklerville Road location

Popular specialty bakery Nothing Bundt Cakes will soon be opening another South Jersey location, with the latest coming to Cross-Keys Road in Sicklerville… in the same building as the new Mission BBQ
UPDATE: Sicklerville location NOW OPEN (March 31
This new shopping center where Nothing Bundt Cakes is opening is located next to the Shoppes at Cross Keys
and across from the Patient First and Creanies Ice Cream properties. As mentioned
Mission BBQ was the first tenant that opened in the new construction building back in December
A big “Hat Tip” to the 42Freeway reader who saw the new location at Nothing Bundt Cakes website and reached out to me
For Nothing Bundt Cakes, this is the second location under development for the Route 42 area, as a location is also under development in Deptford at the Court at Deptford (Red Lobster
Olive Garden)… which also has indications they open soon also
evidence is showing that while we have known about the Deptford location since last September… it seems very likely there is a race between which of these two new Nothing Bundt Cakes locations opens
Nothing Bundt Cakes offers delicious bundt cakes in a variety sizes… large cakes perfect for parties
single servings for a grab-n-go or to take to the office
All offered in a variety of innovative flavors
Nothing Bundt Cakes has a very loyal following of customers who appreciate the delicious and moist cakes
which are baked fresh in each location every day
while I am certain this is the first “media” announcement for this new Cross Keys location… they are already hiring
the Cross Keys Road Sicklerville location of Nothing Bundt Cakes is already listed on the Corporate Website as Coming Soon
And while it’s not always 100% accurate
the Google search business listing is showing an opening of March 21st! My understanding though is the Google business listing opening dates are entered by the business owners themselves when they create and verify their business account for Google search
But… while I don’t see job postings for Deptford
they also have a Location page and… the Google Business listing shows Deptford opening on March 14th… a week sooner than Sicklerville
I stopped in this evening at the Sicklerville location just as the construction team was locking up for the day
but clearly saw inside the unit see that the walls and countertop space were already constructed
While other South Jersey locations are owned by husband and wife team Jessica and Steve Boese… I’ve been told by Marilyn at South Jersey Food Scene that the Sicklerville location is not owned by them… instead it’s a first-time Nothing Bundt Cakes franchisee
For those that have never tried nothing but cakes while it may seem like a very niche concept “Bundt cakes? Like what Grandmom used to make?”… Well nothing bundt cakes has taken the classic American cake to the next level and beyond
They offer a variety of deliciously inventive flavors which are available in three sizes ranging from a full size bundt cake to a bundle at single serving which is about the size of a cupcake… and then even the smaller bundtinis which are almost like a familiar doughnut hole treat
With a variety of delicious flavors and perfectly sized bundt cake options
customers return again and again to buy the cakes for birthday parties
office and family treats… we’re just stopping in to grab a delicious bundt cake bite
And while many bakeries have moved to a consolidated single central warehouse like bakery factory… nothing bundt cakes puts freshness and flavor first
South Jersey they currently have locations in Cherry Hill
Marlton and Mount Laurel. Deptford is under development. In my last visit to deptford it absolutely was under construction but there was paper on the windows so I couldn’t get a sense of how far along they were

Sicklerville Road Restaurant/Bar and Retail Project Returns For Winslow Review
2025 at 2:56 pm ET.css-79elbk{position:relative;}A Sicklerville teen was killed and two other drivers were injured in a four-car
chain-reaction crash on Thursday night in Gloucester County
NJ — A Sicklerville teen was killed and two other drivers were injured in a four-car
A 19-year-old man from Sicklerville died in the crash after his car struck one vehicle
hit a second on the other side of the road and then got hit by an oncoming vehicle
Thursday on Berlin Cross-Keys Road in Monroe Township
The teen was driving west behind a 2018 Hyundai Elantra as the vehicles approached the Black Horse Pike
He tried to pass around the Hyundai's left side and crossed the double-yellow lines
As the teen tried to complete the passing maneuver
the passenger side of his 2007 Nissan Altima hit the driver side of the Hyundai
The teen's car traveled 72 feet into the eastbound lane
where it hit an oncoming 2018 Chevy Equinox
The impact flung the teen's Nissan another 47 feet
a 2025 Mazda C30 hit the teen's car and sent it into the grass on the eastbound shoulder
The Mazda had been traveling behind the Chevy
The Chevy driver sustained upper-body injuries
while the Mazda driver's lower body was hurt
Police did not mention the severity of their injuries
It was the second time last week that a teenager died in a crash in Gloucester County. A few days earlier, a 17-year-old boy crashed his car on Route 55 in Deptford and sustained fatal injuries

Dollar Tree announced last month that they are selling the Family Dollar store brand to another owner
which means for the Sicklerville “Combo” Dollar Tree/Family Dollar location they are currently going through a 50% off store-closing-sale… but then according to employees after some upgrades it is expected to reopen as a Dollar Tree Plus location
I stopped in yesterday to find a busy store where everything is priced at 50% off
and it seemed to be at a point where there is a good selection of product (Note: there are a few exceptions such as tobacco products)
I picked up a decent sized 48-quart Igloo brand cooler for $17.50
But word is getting out and I would imagine the store is going to empty out quickly
To further explain what’s happening at the Sicklerville location… Well at the corporate level 10 years ago Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar for $9 billion
That acquisition did not work out as planned and Dollar Tree just sold off the Family Dollar brand at a fraction of the price… $1 billion! (CNN)
Most of the 8,000 Family Dollar locations are independent units and will continue to operate
so those were easy to transfer over to a new owner
But for the hundreds of “Combo” Dollar Tree/Family Dollar stores such as Sicklerville… there’s no real easy way to split the store in half
So what they have decided to do is effectively close the store and sell off all of the merchandise at a steep discount… and then after some upgrades and rebranding the Sicklerville store will reopen as Dollar Tree Plus location
While I’ve never visited a Dollar Tree Plus location
my understanding is effectively it’s going to be very similar to what shoppers already had with the combo store … a large variety of items priced at $1.25 but then also a big selection of higher priced household items
The sale is moving fast and in my midday visit yesterday there was a good number of customers there so I’d expect the shelves to clear out quickly… particularly after media coverage like 42Freeway
I do not have timing on the reopening as a Dollar Tree plus but I was told unofficially that there will be some interior upgrades done as well as changing of the signage that that’s out to remove all of the family dollar references

Blended Joe Coffee Bar Washington Twp is Open
Paris Baguette Cherry Hill Coming Soon – Neighborhood Bakery Café
First Watch Daytime Café opened this morning in Sicklerville NJ on Cross Keys Road
in a fully remodeled space which was previously a Bertucci’s restaurant
This First Watch location is very unique for the area in that it is the first in New Jersey to offer a full bar! Yes Mimosas
Bloody Mary’s and more are in the mix… BUT they are still a few days away from serving alcohol as they await the final licensing aspects to be completed
That being said you could stop in tomorrow and order from their deliciously upgraded menu which features a full breakfast and lunch offering … ranging from the all new Double Crunch Breakfast Tacos and Million Dollar Potatoes
or how about a Ham and Gruyère Melt?
At First Watch you’ll find many of the classic breakfast and lunch items on the menu but absolutely all will have some unique twists… stepped up a few levels in taste
First Watch also prides itself on its freshly made juices and coffees
and in my visit this morning I got to try all three juices; Morning Meditation
Now before you go running off to visit this new First Watch
keep in mind they truly are a daytime café
which means their hours run from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM
I know what you’re gonna say… “they probably paid a lot of money for that liquor license so there’s no way they’re closing so early each day.” But trust me
First Watch Sicklerville closes at 2:30pm every day
As mentioned this new First Watch is located on Berlin-Cross Keys Road
more specifically in the Shoppes of Cross Keys Shopping Center
The center is located directly next to the AC Expressway exit and also is home to Texas Roadhouse
The Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant which First Watch replaced had closed almost exactly 2 years ago
First Watch has kept the core building shell of the previous building but completely changed things up with a brighter and lighter design which absolutely has a “farmhouse” feel to it
but at the same time it reminds me of a breakfast cafe in Key West (although there are no “beachy” elements to the design.)
The previous front walled-in patio area of the property was removed and replaced with a more subdued outdoor dining space. The front corner main entrance now features a tall tower aspect entrance where the First Watch signage is prominently placed
the layout of the two main dining rooms remains mostly the same with a small bar area (and tables) in the front portion of the restaurant
and in the rear-left of the building is the larger main dining room
And to be clear when I say bar… yes you will be able to order an adult beverage but it’s more of a diner counter type vibe than a bar
Well keep in mind they close at 2:30pm so it’s not like people will be hanging out and loudly chatting as they watch the game
In the main dining room one wall highlights “Sicklerville” with a wall painting featuring a Beaver moving through a Creek
For my visit I did stay and have breakfast I asked the bartender for a recommendation of something that was a little lighter
Superfoods Bowl which featured a variety of healthy but sweet ingredients including a Coconut Milk Chia Seed Pudding
Fresh Bananas and Berries and a House-made Granola. The order is also served with whole grain toast with almond butter
As mentioned I also got to try their three juices
which I think Purple Haze was my favorite as it was a light lemonade style drink made with real cane sugar. I joked it would be even better if it had a shot of vodka in it
to which the bartender responded… “come back when the bar is open because you just described our Spiked Lavender Lemonade!”

NJ — A person fatally shot themselves during a police encounter Wednesday at a condo complex in Sicklerville
The deadly encounter happened around 2:30 p.m
An investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that no officers fired their weapons during the incident
A wounded Winslow Township police officer was removed from the scene for treatment
The officer's injuries don't appear to be life-threatening
"The investigation also confirmed that this was an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to area residents or the surrounding community," the CCPO said
The prosecutor's office withheld the deceased individual's identity and said no further information will be released at this time
Lehigh Manor is in the Winslow Township portion of Sicklerville
Multiple construction crews are feverishly working on the final details of the all-new First Watch breakfast-lunch restaurant coming to Sicklerville… which could open in just a few weeks (late November)
And if you sign-up at their website you may get an invite to their pre-opening VIP event
Back in May, 42Freeway was the first to report on the plans for the new First Watch location for Cross Keys Road which is taking over the former Bertucci’s restaurant (Bertucci’s closed two years ago)
This Cross Keys Road “restaurant row” also includes Buffalo Wild Wings
I stopped over today to check on the construction progress to find a very busy construction site
although the core elements appear to be complete including the exterior work with the First Watch signage in place on the building’s new front entrance tower
as well as the Cross Keys Road frontage sign
I got a chance to peek into the building… from my front door vantage point significantly all of the major dining area items look complete with seating in the space
the bar counter and tile work installed and even the lighting fixtures are hung.
Some smaller decor elements remain to be completed
and of course there will be a BIG full cleaning
But did you catch that unique feature that I slipped into the construction status
the Sicklerville First Watch will be the first location in New Jersey to have a full liquor license… which means mimosas
bloody mary’s and more to go along with your delicious brunch meal
In fact the Public Notice regarding the liquor license transfer was published recently
As you likely know liquor licenses in New Jersey are typically rare and very expensive to acquire
so it’s unique to see a restaurant such as First Watch which closes at 2:30pm
to invest in an expensive liquor license which is only going to be used half of the day…
If you’re unfamiliar with First Watch they call themselves the “daylight cafe” serving innovative breakfast and lunch entrees where everything is enhanced with chef inspired twists… such as their Million Dollar Bacon which is hardwood smoked bacon baked with brown sugar
First Watch puts a lot of thought into making each of their entrees unique
and their dining spaces also match that same mindset with a focus on unique and interesting details
In the South Jersey area there is a First Watch in Cherry Hill as well as a location in Washington Township which is only 5.5 miles from the new Sicklerville location! A location is also under development in Marlton
Clearly the Daylight Cafe must be seeing a lot of success with their existing locations
and it’s exciting to see a premium national restaurant open two locations in the Route 42 corridor
So regarding the opening date of the new First Watch Sicklerville location.
it appears they are targeting a November 25th opening
If you “googled” the restaurant
the search result listing very clearly says Opens November 25th
I didn’t know how much I can trust that but I would imagine First Watch management has to set that date
But then within the last few days my Facebook feed presented me a sponsored ad from First Watch Sicklerville to sign up for their mailing list
and in the lower gray bar footer it also very clearly said Opening November 25th
My only hedge on that date is while I would assume they are training staff at the existing Washington Township location… that date is only about 2 weeks away and construction activity is still taking place

NJ — Big Lots is preparing to close all stores
after the discount retailer's efforts to find a buyer collapsed
The bankrupt company announced Thursday that its previously announced restructuring plan fell through
all remaining Big Lots locations will hold going out of business sales as the retailer makes a last-ditch effort to find a buyer
Liquidation sales will commence "in the coming days," the company said in a news release
But it's unclear when the remaining stores will cease operations
After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September
Big Lots hoped to stay afloat by closing hundreds of locations and selling its assets for $620 million to Nexus Capital Management
The company hopes to reach an agreement with Nexus or another buyer by early January
Big Lots is down to 18 New Jersey stores after closing nine of its locations in the state since October
"We all have worked extremely hard and have taken every step to complete a going concern sale," Big Lots CEO Bruce Thorn said in a statement
"While we remain hopeful that we can close an alternative going concern transaction
in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate
we have made the difficult decision to begin the GOB (going out of business) process."
Big Lots of Sicklerville is located at Town Square Plaza (465 Berlin-Cross Keys Rd.)
Nothing Bundt Cakes has opened in Sicklerville (Gloucester Twp) bringing their popular freshly baked Bundt Cakes to the Cross Keys area community
As the name states… Nothing Bundt Cakes offers delicious Bundt cakes in a variety of sizes from bite-sized “Bundtinis” mini-Bundt Cakes
“Bundlets” single serving for grab-n-go
and even larger cakes that are perfect for larger gatherings
And every delicious cake is made fresh daily
For the new Sicklerville location, it seemed to sneak up on everybody as it wasn’t really known until my article just 6 weeks ago that we realized they were planned for this brand new small shopping center on Cross Keys Road which also is home to a new Mission BBQ
they are directly across from the Patient First and Creanies Ice Cream… and directly next to the larger Shoppes at Cross Keys center
Nothing Bundt Cakes Sicklerville opened at 10:00 AM this morning and I think I was there within that first opening hour
I was greeted by the Regional Manager for the franchise as well as two wonderful new young employees who greeted me with big smiles and promptly helped me with my order
the unit is attractively decorated and has sort of that “old time sweet shop” vibe
Realizing that cakes are common for celebrations and parties
the store area also offers a variety of gift
In my visit today they were featuring a variety of sports focused gifts such as coffee mugs with soccer and football theming
plates that look like baseballs and even a serving tray that says “Kiss The Cook”
A location is also coming very soon to Deptford in the Hobby Lobby center… I believe they open mid-week
But of course the star of the show are the Bundt Cakes
As I mentioned they are baked bright inside the store in the rear bakery area that you could be confident you’re getting the freshest delicious cake
The front counter area features a selection of their cake offerings with 11 different single-serve Bundt cakes on the bottom row
a variety of larger party sized cakes in the next two rows… and then even mini-Bundts to choose from
You can also order online and have your order available for you
even place custom orders for things such as Wedding Cake
But likely most customers are just going to pop in to grab a delicious fresh Bundt Cake for themselves
For my visit today I picked up two classic flavors; Lemon and Chocolate-Chocolate Chip
Because I am a true journalist and want to get the details of all the stories to share with you guys
You can taste the freshness in the flavors and texture
The sweetness is there but it’s not overpowering
Their website shows 14 flavors total with a changing menu of pop-up flavors
and Confetti are just a few of the other options
And yes… they even offer at least one Gluten-Free option

NJ — A Sicklerville man faces charges after authorities say he pulled out a gun to intimidate an unruly customer at a comic book shop Saturday in Glassboro
and staff asked him to leave when he threatened physical violence
of Sicklerville — pulled out a gun and racked it to intimidate the disorderly patron
Surveillance footage showed his 9-year-old pulling down Fernandez's arm to try to get him to put the gun away
All involved parties left the store before police arrived

Fernandez went to the Glassboro police station on Monday to speak with detectives
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (both second-degree)
the developer of a two-building project for Winslow returns to the Planning & Zoning Board tonight February 20th
looking to reapprove their project due to adjustments in the site plan
Located on Sicklerville Road at Thousand Oaks Drive
the cleared rectangular lot sits directly across from the brand new Mi Place at Brightmoor apartment complex. This project property is a short distance to Williamstown-New Freedom Road
The new commercial project on the cleared lot will feature 2 buildings with what appears to be space for a third to be added at a later date
For the current plans one of the two buildings is to be all retail and the other offers a restaurant with bar
And absolutely I know the first thing everyone’s going to ask is “What is the retail store
Well six years after their initial approval
none of the documents give any indication as to what the plans are for the actual retail and restaurant spaces
There are no indications to be found online. I hope to attend the meeting tonight and maybe we’ll hear some more details?
As mentioned this was previously approved in 2019 and the new public notice states that the primary change for the project is that the applicant proposes to reverse the locations of the two buildings
A significant factor to that is Township ordinance requires a distance of 2,000 feet between businesses selling alcohol
and the Township has interpreted that ordinance to mean the 2019 approved plan would not meet that distance requirement
Based on documents provided by the developer it appears the Township used a straight line measurement whereas the developer is stating it should more likely be based on how a consumer would travel
While I can’t speak for the Winslow Planning/Zoning Board
this is something that they can choose to provide a variance
for if it is seen not to be detrimental the Township or neighborhood
the documents and site plans provided for the meeting do not give any indication of what these businesses could be
The retail building is 5,040 square feet. The restaurant and bar building is larger at 5,950 square feet with a 1,500 square foot mezzanine management office.
The site plan calls the restaurant building as “retail/restaurant”
But it is clearly stated in other documents that one of the buildings will so alcohol
and in a Walking Distance Exhibit provided by their engineers
the building is clearly labeled proposed restaurant/bar

Edelman Fossil Park & Museum Mantua Sets Opening Day
An all-new construction Mission BBQ restaurant for Cross Keys Road Sicklerville is set to open mid-December in a brand new small strip of stores located next to the Shoppes at Cross Keys
Mission BBQ is a fast-growing national chain of rustic themed quick casual BBQ restaurants featuring delicious “in-store” made barbecue chicken
turkey and more… As well as delicious sides… all at a very fair price
And the key underlying “mission” of Mission BBQ is in supporting first responders. So far the restaurant brand has donated over $20 million dollars to national and local charitable organizations who support soldiers
The combination of a delicious product at a fair price
while also helping those who help us… has really connected with the community. In fact it seems that every time I visit the existing Deptford location there’s always a large number of customers in the dining room
Continue to read on for more on this new restaurant… but I’ll slip in now that the solid (but tentative) opening date is set for December 17th
This date comes from several local charitable and first responder organizations who have recently shared they will be participating in the opening day celebrations
For the upcoming Sicklerville location, 42Freeway first broke the news on it’s plans two years ago, and then last year we announced the start of construction
As mentioned this is an all new construction building with Mission BBQ as an anchor tenant on the right side
The location is in Gloucester Township between the Shoppes at Cross Keys and TD Bank. The Patient First Urgent Care and Creanies Ice Cream are across the street
While this project is a new development it actually is a smart reuse of the property which originally was a church (on the right) with a large parking lot to the side (on the left)
That large parking lot allocation on the left half of the property was needed when the building operated as a church… to support the large congregation
With the former church building now a Dialysis center
that large amount of parking allocation was no longer needed… which caught the interest of a savvy developer
To facilitate the construction of the new building
as part of the conversion of the church building to it’s lower-traffic medical use
a completely new dedicated parking area was developed in front of the former church building
in an area that previously was an undeveloped “front yard”
This completely freed up the left portion of the property (unused parking lot) for the development of a small strip of retail stores at the back
When this project moved through Planning Board there was a second identified tenant… a dental office was expected to be developed on the left portion of the building. Those plans for the dental office did not move forward
With that being said, I don’t have any knowledge regarding additional tenants in the building. According to the online marketing website for the building, all of the other units are still available for rent
I stopped over at the construction site this morning (Saturday) to see that the exterior of the building is basically finished with the Mission BBQ exterior signage in place
This Sicklerville Mission BBQ will also feature an outdoor patio area with covered roof
I peeked through the windows of the upcoming Sicklerville Mission BBQ to see that it looks pretty much ready to go inside
with all of the tables and chairs in place as well as the soda machines and televisions
The televisions were operating and showing a Mission BBQ promo clip
Overall I would say the Sicklerville dining room is smaller than Deptford
but Sicklerville has a larger outdoor patio dining space
While there are also now locations in Marlton and Hamilton
I’ve only ever been to the Deptford mission BBQ
The interior decor typically features a rustic wood and corrugated steel design
with a significant amount of interesting decor elements and photos highlighting the first responder and military aspects of Mission BBQ
all of the food is made in house and every location has massive smokers developed within the building so they can make the necessary large quantities to the support of customer base
pulled chicken… which can be ordered as an entree or a sandwich
In their Smokehouse Signatures category they offer baby back ribs
smoked cheeseburger and a variety of specials
For many customers the sides at Mission BBQ are as big a reason to visit as the entrees
Each table has a centerpiece of six different barbecue sauces ranging from Kansas City to Memphis and more. Delicious
A variety of drinks and lemonade are offered with the big deal being the American Heroes Cup
For $4.99 you get a special cup that you get to keep… and $2.00 of that purchase is donated to charity. The next time you return
bring that cup with you and you can get a refill for only $0.99
I’ll be back in two weeks for the opening
Mission BBQ Sicklerville (Opening December 17th)601 Berlin-Cross Keys RdSicklerville (Gloucester Township)
Uncle Gus’ Steaks in Reading Terminal Market
South Jersey’s latest Mission BBQ restaurant officially opens in Sicklerville today… Monday December 23rd at 12 noon
The Sicklerville (Gloucester Twp) location is a newly constructed building at 603 Berlin-Cross Keys Road Sicklerville
NJ 08081. This is next to the large Shoppes at Cross Keys complex
The Mission BBQ Sicklerville opening is a slight delay from their original planned opening of last week
On Friday December 20 they held their Military Appreciation Night which was somewhat of a preview opening. While I learned of the event on my own
I stopped in over the weekend to grab some final photos of the exterior of the building and realizing staff would be on-site ahead of the big opening
I was hoping to grab some interior photos for readers… but I wasn’t able to work that out
But the building exterior looks great and this Sicklerville location includes a covered outdoor patio dining area also
In South Jersey Mission BBQ has other locations in Deptford and Marlton and we recently reported on plans for a location in Cherry Hill
The space for the new building became available when the adjacent church building was converted into a medical dialysis facility. This left a large parking area to the left of that former church building which was no longer needed
and that extra parking space was converted into this new shopping plaza
Mission BBQ is a growing chain of fast casual restaurants where all of their food is created in-house… each location features large smokers which they used to repair freshly made BBQ chicken
Turkey and more… as well as delicious sides
The “mission” in mission BBQ is supporting first responders
The theming of the restaurants is developed around the support of first responders and so far the brand states they have donated over $20 million to national and local charitable organizations
They support national level charities they also go out of their way to support local charities and their website list as examples they support Deptford police and fire departments
and the Monroe Township canine foundation and fire departments
It’s the perfect combination of delicious food
fair pricing… and knowing that you can help those who are helping us
I had an inadvertent typo in the list of charities
This was based on an issue with voice-to-text which misinterpreted a word I said

Asad’s Hot Chicken is one of the area’s top “must try” restaurants and now it appears they are “Coming Soon” to Sicklerville on Cross Keys Road
This would be the second New Jersey location after Burlington opened last fall
Update: Asad’s Sicklerville is Now Open. Check out my experience post
The planned new location for Asad’s appears to be the former Texas Fried Chicken & Pizza location in the Winslow Plaza (next to ShopRite Sicklerville)
Interior work has already started and the Asad’s Hot Chicken logo and distinctive graphics are in place in the customer area
I previously reported that Dave’s Hot Chicken is taking over the former PDQ on Cross Keys Road
Asad’s Hot Chicken offers a simple menu focused on large halal chicken tenders which are prepared Nashville Hot Style
French fries and coleslaw round out the combo meals
They also offer delicious milkshakes and fruit smoothies
and for dessert strawberry or banana pudding
Asad’s is well known and is a “must try
share on social media” restaurant every time they open. While I did not make it to their first South Jersey location opening (Burlington)
I understand there were long lines of customers waiting to try the delicious chicken tenders and sandwiches
It’s an amazing local success story where the chapters are still being written
The first Asad’s Hot Chicken opened just two years ago in July 2022
The praise and success seems well deserved… I believe it’s a combination of delicious freshly prepared food served in a large platter at a reasonable price
The most popular combo meal of a “slider with fries” is priced under 10 bucks
So while they’ve been a secret to most of South Jersey, up to now much of the Philly metro area is well aware and telling everyone on social media! The Asad’s Instagram account has 180,000 followers… and they started just two years ago
The 2023 Philadelphia Magazine Best of Philly issue called Asad’s “Line-Worthy Chicken”
I’ve known about Asad’s for a while now but it wasn’t until this morning that I had a chance to try it
after driving over to a newer location in Philadelphia which opened near Saint Joe’s University (Woodlane Ave)
I was impressed with my slider sandwich which featured a VERY large chicken tender on a fresh bun
For under $10 it’s a large platter with the big sandwich
a huge portion of fries… and coleslaw
The sandwich was very tasty and cooked perfectly… Asad’s “puts the tender
I went with a Hot style preparation which on first bite is cooled down a but with the slightly tangy sauce in the bite… but then two or three bites later the heat builds up and starts to catch ya
Right now the Asad’s website shows 10 locations
but that’s just in a matter of a TWO very short years and they are growing rapidly via a franchise model
When Burlington opened last fall they only had four
the former Texas Fried Chicken and Pizza location in the Winslow Plaza on Berlin-Cross Keys Road is closed (about two weeks ago)… but immediately construction paper went up on the main windows and interior upgrades started happening
Upgrades that clearly indicate that Asad’s Hot Chicken is taking over the space
the Asad’s Hot Chicken logo is clearly seen painted in the center… as well as the brand’s distinctive graffiti style artwork throughout the space
And while I didn’t take a photo of the side walls
Four large display screens are above the counter area
which match up to the digital menu display I saw during my visit to the Woodlane Ave location in Philadelphia
Asad’s Hot Chicken does an amazing job with their social media presence and as of today there’s been no official announcement of this new Camden County location
but it’s tough to deny the interior graphics and logos which are already in place at the Winslow Township restaurant unit
The location is the Winslow Plaza which is directly next to the ShopRite of Sicklerville
and it sits at the busy intersection of Berlin-Cross Keys Rd
Hat tip to a 42Freeway reader who reached out to me
Asad Khan is a Philly native with a comprehensive food industry background
growing up around the restaurant industry and developing a passion for it at a very young age
The first Asad’s hot chicken restaurant opened in Northeast Philadelphia in 2022
and like all of the locations the menu is halal.
From Asad’s first location on it seems the local community really grabbed on to the delicious large chicken tenders
spicy seasonings and Asad’s Secret Sauce
Very quickly the delicious flavors and excellent value grew into a large fan base who love to share the experience with others on social media
As mentioned the chicken is prepared as large tenders which could be eaten as a tender or on a bun (slider)
There are four different levels of spice (mild
extra hot and scorchin’) as well as an option for no spice at all
with 5 of them based on the chicken tenders
Likely the top seller is the “Number 1 Slider With Fries” which also includes pickles
cheese and Asad’s sauce… for under $10
The other four options are variations on the sliders or tenders
and combo item 6 is a large platter of loaded fries
As mentioned they offer milkshakes in six different innovative flavors including Nutella Magic
Fruit Smoothies are offered in 5 flavors including Razzle Dazzle
For dessert they offer Strawberry or Banana pudding flavors
At this time I have no updates on when the Sicklerville location would be opening

Cross Keys Road Reopens A New Widened Roadway Segment
With over 200 locations nationally, Dave’s Hot Chicken celebrates their new Sicklerville location “soft” opening this Thursday October 24th. The official Grand Opening is set for Friday. 42Freeway broke the news of this location back in June
The Cross Keys Road location is opening in the former PDQ Chicken restaurant building which sits in front of Carmax
The building’s size provides a full dine-in restaurant option
This is the second location for Dave’s in South Jersey, with Cherry Hill opened in April of this year. Sicklerville (Winslow) will be the 7th location in the state
Dave’s Hot Chicken specializes in the popular Nashville Hot style chicken tenders which are cooked fresh and served in your choice of seasoned spice level
Cauliflower tenders and a variety of sides including fries
(Dave’s menu can differ per location so we likely won’t know the full Sicklerville offering until the open)
Folks say that Dave’s Chicken Tenders are “Jumbo”… and I’ve had them maybe four times now (in two different states) and I have to agree they are very large tender
And it seems they clearly have found their fanbase
I’ve been to the Cherry Hill location at least twice several months after their opening
and each time I visited I experienced a still crowded restaurant
the Dave’s team has done a great job rebranding the building to Dave’s… which features a white base exterior paint and fun and colorful graphics throughout the building
Unfortunately during my recent visit the sun was positioned in the very back of the building so that the front of the building was shadowed… and you know I pride myself on my photography! So I am not ecstatic over my images but I wanted to get this article online to let people know of the opening
I may stop back soon to refresh these images
the fun and colorful graffiti style graphics continue
and Dave’s will likely incorporate some local aspects to the design
in Cherry Hill there is a boxing chicken in a boxing ring… In reference to when Mohammed Ali used to live in Cherry Hill
As of right now I have not been inside Dave’s Sicklerville to see what the design is… and when I stopped in very recently the restaurant was filled with their new staff who are actively involved in training
With this building Dave’s inherits a drive-thru lane but I noticed the menu boards are completely blank
so it makes me think that they will not be operating a drive-thru
Readers are probably wondering if there’s any grand opening day promos and as far as I can see none only are any listed for Sicklerville (and we’re just days away)
It appears there were no special promos or giveaways for Cherry Hill either
My apologies readers that there are some details that I don’t have at this time
but I felt it was important to get the news out regarding the opening
Nashville Hot Chicken tenders and sandwiches are absolutely “hot” right now as customers seem to be willing to wait in long lines to get their hands on freshly made chicken tenders and sandwiches
To support that demand a variety of competitors are rushing to claim their territories throughout all of the United States
Back in August, less than a mile away on Cross Keys Road the Philadelphia based Asad’s Hot Chicken opened to a large crowd of customers
First started in 2017 in a makeshift parking lot kitchen in California
the rapidly growing quick-casual restaurant now has over 200 full restaurant locations with 100s more signed on to be developed
If you’re unfamiliar with what Nashville Hot Chicken is… well at Dave’s Hot Chicken they are serving large pieces of chicken breasts which can be ordered as a tender or a slider sandwich
The preparation is key to any recipe and at Dave’s they first marinate the chicken breasts in their own secret proprietary brine recipe
That marinating locks in flavors and juices into the chicken
The chicken tenders are then breaded and deep fried
the signature spicy dry rub style seasoning is added to the fried chicken tenders
which really gives it that Dave’s special flavor… and adds the “hot” to the chicken
that spice level can be chosen by the customer
which at Dave’s Hot Chicken is 7 levels of heat starting with no spice at all and then moving through mild
Dave’s also has their own tangy sauce which can be used to dip the chicken tenders in
The sauce is also part of the slide sandwich preparation
what sets the different brands apart is… well for example
at Dave’s every aspect of the above process is a proprietary recipe which gives their tenders it’s signature freshness
The core menu of Dave’s is focused on simplicity
offering options of chicken tenders or the sliders
But looking at the Cherry Hill menu online I see they have expanded things by offering Dave’s bites (smaller chicken nugget sized pieces) as well as a meatless “Dave’s NOT Chicken” which are made from Cauliflower

NJ — A Sicklerville teen was shot and killed during a dispute at a trailer park on Monday
according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office (GCPO)
for a report of shots fired in Monroe Township's Colonial Estates neighborhood
Authorities determined that a dispute around Texas and Oklahoma avenues led to the shooting
An unconscious person — later identified as Qaasir K
Greenidge — was found in the backyard of a Texas Avenue home
of Winslow Township's Sicklerville section
was brought to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital
Officers detained three people shortly after reaching the scene
But they have not been publicly identified as of Friday afternoon
and it's unclear how many are suspects in the case
No one has been charged as of Friday afternoon
"There are certainly people of interest who we are aware of as we pursue the ability to file charges in this case," Gilbert told Patch
As police investigated the scene on Monday night
they said there was no ongoing threat to the public
Gloucester County's medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Tuesday
They determined that Greenidge died from a single gunshot wound
The GCPO and Monroe Township Police Department continue to investigate the shooting

Pala Snack & Bev Co is a newer independent convenience store located on Williamstown-New Freedom Road in Sicklerville (directly behind Wawa) offering customers a unique twist… An owner who loves international snack foods and fills the store with a constantly changing variety of unique flavors
Their tagline “We have the Coolest snacks in South Jersey!”
I stopped in at the end of last week and caught up with local owner Ashish who is a super-friendly guy and genuinely enthusiastic about unique snack foods… putting a lot of time and effort into researching different interesting items to bring into his Sicklerville convenience store
To be clear this is a full traditional convenience store offering smoke products and more
But in the snack category instead of stopping with basic Snickers and bubblegum
Ashish is importing a wide variety of snacks from all around the world… how Cinnamon Bun Oreos from Canada
Lutti “tongue painter” Tubble Color from the Netherlands
or maybe a Lobster with Golden Salted Egg Sauce Wavy Lay’s Potato chip!
One that I didn’t notice until looking at my photos back home (and that I want to try) is a Lay’s Exotic Craft Beer Potato Chip… also from Japan!
Pala just posted 2 days ago at their Instagram page that they just got in the Jolo chip which is the dangerously hot 2.2 million SHU chip! 42Freeway does not recommend that you try this chip
Most of the items are packaged in the country’s native language with English subtitles
but there are some where I had to ask ” so what is this one?”’
in chatting with Ashish he gets so excited over these different really cool snacks… I would bet he opened this convenience store just to have an excuse to bring the snacks into South Jersey for himself
Word has gotten out about Pala Snack & Bev store
with fans posting about the store on social media at sites such as the popular South Jersey Food Scene group. Ashish tells me there are customers driving in from an hour or more away to shop his selection
Beverages are also a big part of the selection
including a line of Colas in flavors such as Peach Blossom
For a really extra twist with a more local representation, Ashish is also a partner in Loki Cannabis Infused Seltzer. It is a hemp derived product which is also gluten free
naturally flavored and available in a variety of flavors
I got to try a few things during my visit including Swedish Skalle Gelantfri candy
and even Dubai Chocolate…which is all the craze right now
I’ll be back again and again to check on what’s new at the store
and hopefully to catch up with Ashish. Turns out he and I originally come from the same industry
actually working for competitors which gave us a lot of things to talk about… And yes of course I talked too much about 42Freeway

It appears a new Mission BBQ location is coming to Cherry Hill’s Marketplace at Garden State Park shopping center )where Wegmans is also located)
Additionally, prior reports of Mission BBQ Sicklerville opening on December 17th has been delayed via an official announcement at there Facebook page
The BBQ restaurant brand is in early stage planning for a Cherry Hill location believed to be opening on Route 70 in Cherry Hill
The identified unit within the Garden State Park retail complex was originally a Pei Wei fast-casual Asian restaurant located
then a Land’s End store….in the same building as the recently opened Tommy’s Tavern and Tap
The multi-unit building is immediately to the right of the shopping center’s main Route 70 entrance
I always use Wegmans to identify this shopping center as the popular supermarket is such a unique and well-known business
people instantly connect with the location … but more specifically this new Mission BBQ will be more in front of the Home Depot
So I noticed several weeks ago that leasing documents for the Garden State Park Retail Complex identified this as “Lease Pending
Fast Casual BBQ Restaurant” but I had held off putting the story online just waiting to confirm who was coming in
Recently the popular Facebook page “A View From Evesham” beat me to getting the story online
and put the leasing summary info online and pondered if it were Mission BBQ
Earlier today a loyal reader of 42Freeway messaged me saying they had reached out to the customer service team at Mission BBQ via social media
and asked about their plans to come to Cherry Hill (specifically to the Rt 70 Shopping center)
Hi! Thanks for your message! Yes
we expect to come to that great community (Cherry Hill) at the end of next year (2025)
Absolutely I would prefer to see the brand and location linked 100% together
So do those two halves of information equal a whole Mission BBQ coming to Cherry Hill Route 70? Likely
In other area Mission BBQ news, they have a location close to opening in Sicklerville
Cross Keys Road… and that mid-December opening will be delayed although a new date has not been set yet
In an update last month I had reported they were planning on opening on December 17th
based on several public reports from area emergency services and military organizations
who were invited to participate in the Grand Opening celebrations
But just three days ago the official national Mission BBQ Facebook page announced that they will not be opening on that date
and will be postponing their military appreciation night and Grand Opening celebration for Sicklerville to a later date
A new date has not been announced just yet
I think at this point everyone knows what Mission BBQ is all about… but in a quick summary
They are a privately held national chain of fresh BBQ restaurants where everything is made in store including the delicious sides
They first entered the South Jersey market with a large Deptford location which has proven to be very popular
An underlying theme of the restaurant is to support and honor emergency service personnel and the military… the theming of the restaurant supports that
and Mission BBQ says nationally they have donated over $20 million to charities associated with those organizations

The restaurant in Sicklerville will hold its grand opening soon
NJ — Asad's Hot Chicken will offer freebies during its grand opening next week in Sicklerville
The grand opening is set for Sept. 6, with free food offered from 3-7 p.m., Asad's announced on social media
It wasn't immediately clear what customers can get for free
Nashville-style hot chicken has been spreading throughout Greater Philadelphia, and so has Asad's Hot Chicken. Founded by city native Asad Khan, the chain now lists 10 locations listed on its website — not including Sicklerville — with others on the way
Asad's bills itself as "Philadelphia's first hot chicken joint." Customers can get chicken sliders
The restaurants have five different levels of spice: no spice
milkshakes and fruit smoothies are also available
Sicklerville's restaurant will mark the second Asad's restaurant in South Jersey
with a Burlington eatery opening late last year
It will be located at 542 Berlin-Cross Keys Rd

NJ — A fast-growing hot chicken restaurant is spreading its wings to Sicklerville
which has developed a cult following in Greater Philadelphia
will open soon at 542 Berlin-Cross Keys Rd.
The restaurant will go in the Winslow Plaza
It wasn't immediately clear when the eatery would begin operations. But Asad's teased its upcoming opening last week on social media:
Founded in Philadelphia by city native Asad Khan
Asad's bills itself as "Philadelphia's first hot chicken joint." As Nashville-style hot chicken becomes more prevalent throughout the region
Asad's has opened 10 locations in the area
Sicklerville's restaurant will mark the second location in South Jersey
42 Freeway first reported the restaurant planned in Sicklerville
Menu items include Nashville-style hot chicken sliders
Asad's also prides itself in being a halal restaurant

(Dave's Hot Chicken)Dave's Hot Chicken in Sicklerville
NJ — Dave's Hot Chicken in Sicklerville will open later this week
The new restaurant will soft launch Thursday
one day before Friday's grand opening at 610 Berlin-Cross Keys Rd.
As Nashville hot chicken tears through the nation's tastebuds, Sicklerville is becoming a red-hot battleground. Dave's will be located a mile down Berlin-Cross Keys Road from Asad's Hot Chicken, which opened its Sicklerville restaurant in early September
Nashville-style hot chicken sliders; house-made kale slaw; creamy mac and cheese; and seasoned french fries
Chicken is available at seven different spice levels
ranging from "No Spice" to "Reaper," which requires a signed waiver
The fast-growing restaurant chain originated in a parking lot pop-up in East Hollywood
four friends scraped together $900 to purchase an air fryer and serve flavorful hot chicken tenders
Despite only selling one item — a hot chicken combo plate — the street-food stand became a hit
with lines that sometimes stretched around the block
In 2023, Dave's reached an agreement to open seven South Jersey restaurants over the next five years, according to NJ Advance Media. The first location opened earlier this year in Cherry Hill
while Sicklerville will have the region's second
The other locations have not been disclosed
Dave's in Sicklerville will open at the former site of PDQ — another chicken joint, which closed last year
The restaurant will operate during the following hours:
Asad’s Hot Chicken has confirmed their new location for Sicklerville NJ, with a Grand Opening date set for September 6th. 42Freeway first broke the news on this location on August 2nd
Asad’s Sicklerville will be offering four hours of free food that day from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Based on experiences at other grand opening events
Assad’s should have hundreds of people waiting in line to try their amazing Nashville-Hot style chicken tenders
The new location is in the Winslow Plaza which is to the side of the ShopRite on Cross Keys Rd. Asad’s is moving into the unit which was previously Texas Fried Chicken
I stopped by today to see that the restaurant looks ready to open with exterior signage in place
and a fun graffiti style interior with digital display menu screens ready to go. Likely they’re using the next week to train employees on the Asad’s menu and preparation techniques
If you’re unfamiliar with the Asad’s Hot Chicken they offer a simple menu focused on a large halal chicken tenders which are prepared Nashville-hot style.
You don’t have to “sweat it” because you can choose the level of heat for your Asad’s Chicken Tenders
from no-spice up to “scorchin’”
Seasoned French fries and coleslaw round out the combo meals
Asad’s Chicken Tenders can be ordered as a tender meal
For the sliders the tenders are served on a bun
They also offer delicious milkshakes and fruit smoothies
Asad’s started in Philadelphia and despite being around for only a few years they have established themselves as one of the viral
must try food items where customers will typically wait in long lines for days
And likely that solid fan base is well deserved as Asad’s freshly preparers all of the food each day in-house
Likely the number one menu item is a single chicken slider combo where the slider is prepared with cheese
The combo rounds out with fries and an extra Asad’s sauce container for your fries
Priced at under $10 it’s a hearty meal at a great price
The Number 5 tender wrap is also priced at under $10
The Sicklerville location will be the second South Jersey Asad’s. They previously opened one at the end of 2023 in Burlington. Another South Jersey location is planned for Cherry Hill, on Haddonfield Berlin Rd. 42Freeway wrote about Cherry Hill coming just a week ago
So likely today most of South Jersey is unfamiliar with Asad’s Hot Chicken and honestly… there’s probably a lot of unfamiliarity with the Nashville-Hot style chicken also
But over in Philadelphia there are several Asad’s restaurant locations already open, and to that point the Instagram account for the restaurant has over 180,000 followers
I had a chance to try a an Asad’s chicken tender slider sandwich earlier this month when I drove over to Philadelphia and visited a recently opened location next to Saint Joe’s University (Woodlane Ave)
Overall I was is impressed with the slider sandwich which featured a very large chicken tender on a fresh bun
coleslaw and cheese. As I mentioned for $10 it’s a large platter with a big sandwich and a massive portion of French fries… as well as a bonus container of Asad’s sauce to dip the fries in
I felt the sandwich was very tasty and cooked perfectly. Their chicken tender lived up to the name… incredibly tender and a flavorful bite
I went with a “hot” level of heat which at first bite I thought wasn’t too hot… but then as I took additional bites… man it started catching up with me quick
Right now the Asad’s website shows 10 locations but as mentioned we have the Sicklerville opening now and I know at least Cherry Hill is coming soon also

Mission BBQ is a popular barbecue restaurant with over 100 locations. An area location in Deptford NJ near the mall is very popular… every time I visit no matter the day or time
there are always many customers in the dining room
With the first location opened on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11
Mission BBQ strives to honor those who proudly serve for us whether in the military
emergency services and related. To date they have donated more than $20 million
Mission BBQ is being developed in an all-new construction small stripmall in Gloucester Township next to the Shoppes at Gloucester, and across from Creanies Ice Cream/Patient First Urgent Care
The property was originally a parking lot for the church, but that church was converted to a dialysis center making the large parking area unnecessary. To fully support both buildings (dialysis center and new construction) a new parking lot was first developed in front of the dialysis center
I first reported on the plans for this shopping center in November 2022, and published an update a year later when initial construction started
In my visit last week you could see that the new building is fully “built up” with most of the exterior siding in place
A somewhat signature Mission BBQ corner entrance “tower” is seen on the building
The door on the right side of the building will lead to a side outdoor patio dining area
which is very similar to the Deptford location
Based on construction documents I’ve seen
this Mission BBQ will take about 1/3 of the building
which likely means it will be smaller than the Deptford location
Currently I see they have a job opening for a Marketing Coordinator
which is likely a role they want to have on board ahead of the restaurant opening to help build up awareness within the community
Aspen Dental is also an all-new construction effort and is rising quickly in front of the Winslow Township ShopRite. An existing tall digital billboard signpost is directly in front of the new dental office
I first covered plans for this new 3,525 sq ft building back in February of 2023.
Previously the property contained a small ranch home that had been converted into an office
That building was demolished ahead of construction
the project design flip-flopped from when I first wrote about it
Originally the new building was to be placed on the left side of the property
Later on the developers returned to the Winslow Board with a site plan which moved the dental building to the right side of the property… and interestingly very close to the digital billboard signpost
Having the signpost so close to the roadside frontage side of the building is something I’ve never seen. While I did not walk on to the construction site it appears based on photos and the submitted site plans that the large signpost is just a few feet (maybe inches) away from new dental offices front side
Online I found job listings for a dentist and the office manager
Dave’s Hot Chicken is a fast growing “Nashville Hot” style chicken tender restaurant which is redeveloping the previously closed PDQ Chicken restaurant on the Winslow Township side of Cross Keys Rd
I first broke news on the project in early June of this year and already crews are on site completely gutting the interior of the restaurant
I stopped in last week to see a dumpster on site
and from my car vantage point I could tell that the interior of the building was gutted. I did not get out of the car to snap a photo of the interior… it was a REALLY hot day
and maybe I was also feeling a bit lazy!
Dave’s Hot Chicken opened a location in Cherry Hill back in early April
and was met with several weeks of long lines of people waiting to try one of America’s hottest chicken restaurant chains
I stopped back in to the Cherry Hill location a few weeks ago and still found a very packed restaurant with most seats filled and customers waiting for orders
If you’re unfamiliar with Dave’s Hot Chicken
they feature a simplistic menu focused on their Nashville Hot Sstyle chicken tenders
A small selection of delicious sides are also offered
All of the chicken is prepared fresh in-house comment and they offer a variety of heat levels that the customer can choose when ordering
The limited menu offerings is very similar model to Raising Cane’s except Dave’s Hot Chicken focuses on the spicier Nashville style seasonings
A First Watch brunch restaurant is planning on taking over the previously closed Bertucci’s Restaurant at the front of the Shoppes at Gloucester
First Watch is a brunch-focused restaurant who calls themselves “The Daylight Cafe”
serving amazing breakfast and lunch entrees where everything is enhanced with chef inspired twists
which is a hardwood smoked bacon baked with brown sugar
A location has been open in Washington Township for several years
and before that they opened in Cherry Hill
The special twist for the upcoming Sicklerville location is that based on the plans that I have
they will be offering a full bar in Sicklerville… offering amazing mimosas
My article on the plans for First Watch Sicklerville was written just back in May of this year, and honestly there is no construction activity to be seen at the property
But one recent development is that for a few days recently, a job offering was posted for a Restaurant Operations Manager for First Watch where it clearly says “NEW RESTAURANT COMING SOON TO SICKLERVILLE
But it was only online for a few days before being listed as no longer available
Likely someone in recruiting posted this a little too early… particularly since we’ve seen no activity at the site

It's time to say goodbye to another New Jersey diner and say hello to a new Mexican restaurant coming to South Jersey
The Winslow Family Diner, located at 491 Williamstown Rd in Sicklerville, has been sold and will soon be replaced by a Mexican restaurant, according to 42Freeway
a banner has been placed on the front of the building
reading "Coming Soon: Mexican Restaurant
the identity of the new owners is pretty hush-hush
it could very well be the owners of a nearby popular Mexican restaurant

A new Grocery Outlet coming to Sicklerville Cross Keys Road has set their grand opening date for June 27th
I stopped in yesterday and toured the building with location owners Blake and Becky Maxey
who live close by in Camden County. The building is construction complete and has its Certificate of Occupancy… which means its time to load up the shelves
The staff will soon be starting the process stocking the initial deliveries of dry good merchandise onto the shelves. Closer to the opening date they will bring in fresh produce
42Freeway first wrote about this upcoming Grocery Outlet almost a year ago to the day. The location is a former freestanding Rite Aid store which while it still retains the core familiar building shape
it has seen significant upgrades inside and out.
Most noticeably to the community is the bright red exterior signage which has been grabbing the attention of commuters and shoppers for a few weeks now on the busy Cross Keys Road
In my visit yesterday it appears that other than putting merchandise on the shelves
All of the cash register checkout lanes are in place as well as all of the shelving
freezer and refrigerator units… even the interior signage and catchy wall graphics are hanging and on the walls
In multiple places the interior signage has images of Blake and Becky… as it truly is the Grocery Outlet model that the owners are an integral part of the customer shopping experience
And to make sure they were ready for everything
the couple completed a TWO YEAR training program ahead of opening the Sicklerville store
which had them hands-on working all aspects of the grocery from stock and checkout
The final challenge for them and the team is stocking the shelves… and at the back of the store large palettes stacked with dry good merchandise area arriving
the brand considers themselves “opportunistic buyers” where they are able to make deals with distributors and manufacturers for name brand merchandise at deep discounts
Merchandise and even pricing can vary each time you return
but it is a goal of the brand and the Maxey’s to ensure that they are covering all aspects of the shopping experience… at the best prices
Grocery Outlet strives to be a full shopping experience for the local community and offers fresh meats and produce
dairy products and even personal hygiene goods such as shampoo or toothpaste
Significantly low prices and special deals will be found throughout the store
with several super low price areas such as the “Power Wall” positioned at the front of the store which will feature the best “when they are gone
While Grocery Outlet is new to South Jersey
just starting their big push to build out several locations… I was happily surprised at the amount of positive comments the are getting online from very happy customers who have shopped at their existing locations either in Pennsylvania or other parts of New Jersey
The whole business model of Grocery Outlet is based on having the best pricing on the full supermarket product mix…
But Blake says as owner/operators of the location he and his wife can choose inventory and pricing for what the store offers
and it’s their goal to keep margins low and consistently be one of the best priced shopping experiences in the area
A wide variety of grocery items is also important to the Maxeys
Grocery Outlet has a healthy product program called NOSH (Natural Organic Special Healthy) and the Maxeys are going beyond the Corporate recommendations buy offering an even larger variety of healthy
I chatted with Blake and Becky for about 90 minutes in the store
the layout of different areas and the pricing model
But one thing that kept coming up again and again was the number of efforts connected to the community
For Grocery Outlet it’s very important for be an integral part of the community with several programs to support local charities and businesses (as suppliers)
And it’s clear that Blake and Becky are looking to take the community support aspect to the next level with several of their own efforts
Two days before the grand opening will be the Supermarket Sweep contest where police and fire departments will have a fun two-minute shopping spree battle where the focus is on picking items with the most significant savings. Whoever saves the most gets that money donated to their charity
Sicklerville Grocery Outlet is opening just as the company has their their yearly “Independence From Hunger” program which raises money and food for area charities
Customers can make a $5 donation which goes directly to the charity
but in turn Grocery Outlet is giving you a $5 coupon to be utilized on your next visit
The Sicklerville Grocery Outlet has chosen Unforgotten Haven in Blackwood and the Community Care Food and Clothing Pantry in Sicklerville as this year’s recipients for their store
Blake and Becky also want to bring in local vendors and farmers where they can
and have made an arrangement with the local Ferrara’s Orchards to offer fresh jersey produce such as sweet jersey corn
They will also be carrying Holy Grounds coffee which is a nonprofit coffee company where the coffee is roasted and packaged by clients of Westville’s Saint John of God Community Services. The program improves the lives of individuals with disabilities by giving them a rewarding work experience being an integral part of the entire coffee business experience
Grocery Outlet’s HERO program will offer active and veteran military members
firefighters and EMTs a daily 3% discount on purchases and seniors will see a 5% discount on their entire order on a designated day of the week
So many reasons to try out Grocery Outlet Sicklerville… Opening Thursday June 27
