Yale College Dean Pericles Lewis has told the News that he does not anticipate any changes in Yale’s free expression and protest policies. University President Maurie McInnis previously said that she is prioritizing lobbying for Yale’s interests in Washington over issuing public pronouncements was largely personal and came amid “difficult family matters.” The spokesperson also said that he had “no desire” to leave the United States.  Shore wrote that her and Snyder’s children were factors in the couple’s decision Snyder and Shore both specialize in Eastern European history and each has drawn parallels between the fascist regimes they have studied and the current Trump administration has also published books on fascism and propaganda including the popular book “How Fascism Works.”   he’s been one of my most important interlocutors on political historical and philosophical questions for the better part of a decade now,” Shore wrote to the News on Wednesday “I am thrilled that he’ll be joining us in Toronto but also heartbroken at what’s happened to my own country.” described the news of Stanley’s departure as a shock although he knew that Stanley had been considering leaving Yale “for quite some time.” Franks described Stanley as an irreplaceable “pioneer” in analytic philosophy and as a “rare” American philosophical public intellectual who took several classes with Stanley and worked as a research assistant on his latest book on fascism lauded Stanley’s commitment to including a diverse canon in his classes’ syllabi and to relating his courses to relevant current events “He has a really neat ability to marry the tools of the discipline with the contemporary crises that we as students With Shore and Snyder departing, Yale’s faculty will be short two of its most prominent scholars of Eastern Europe. Although Stanley’s academic work was not focused on the region, the philosophy professor has commented and written on the war in Ukraine and taught a course at the Kyiv School of Economics in Ukraine in the summer of 2024 shared that Snyder and Shore provided a crucial platform for conversations and events focused on Ukraine “The departure of Professors Shore and Snyder leaves behind a profound void,” Tytarenko wrote to the News “The intellectual and moral leadership they offered in advancing public understanding of Ukrainian history a Belarusian dissident and research scholar at the MacMillan Center called the professors’ departure “a big loss” for Yale and American education but urged the University community to carry forward the pro-Ukraine advocacy Snyder and Shore led on campus East European and Eurasian Studies Program also emphasized the couple’s “tireless” advocacy for Eastern European scholarship on campus When Yevhenii Monastyrskyi GRD ’23 studied European and Russian studies at Yale Shore advised his thesis and Snyder served as his “spiritual guide,” Monastyrskyi said He described the two professors as “generous scholars” who made time for their students “Professor Snyder is always good with conceptual thinking He helps to grasp the bigger picture students are trying to pursue,” Monastyrski said “Professor Shore is a person of ideas and language so she really helps her students to develop the clearest but also the most beautifully written pieces.” Asked whether she believes other professors might be encouraged to leave the United States Shore wrote that she believes many of her colleagues will consider relocating due to the current political climate which she deemed an “American descent into fascism.” “I don’t feel confident that American universities will manage to mobilize to protect either their students or their faculty,” Shore said Franks wrote that he is not aware of other faculty in the philosophy department who are considering leaving the country for political reasons Shore is on leave from Yale to finish a book manuscript though she has resided in Toronto since the beginning of the academic year She will begin teaching at the University of Toronto in the fall as the Munk School’s chair in European intellectual history Snyder will be the school’s inaugural chair in Modern European History.  The University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy was founded in 2010 A few years ago, Forbes published author Roberta Chinsky Matuson’s sensible advice to businesspeople seeking to shoot up that golden ladder. Photograph: Nils Meilvang/APThe American imperialism directed towards Denmark and Canada is not just morally wrong There is nothing that Americans cannot get from Denmark or Canada through alliance The very existence of the base at Pituffik shows that Within the atmosphere of friendship that has prevailed the last 80 years all of the mineral resources of Canada and Greenland can be traded for on good terms or for that matter explored by American companies The only way to put all of this easy access in doubt was to follow the course that Musk-Trump have chosen: trade wars with Canada and Europe and the threat of actual wars and annexations Musk and Trump are creating the bloodily moronic situation in which the US will have to fight wars to get the things that Much effort is spent trying to extract a doctrine from all this It is just senselessness that benefits America’s enemies Hans Christian Andersen told the unforgettable tale of the naked emperor what we saw was American imperialism with no clothes and propose that alliances with dictatorships would somehow be better But Europe is not only home to our traditional allies; it is an enviable zone of democracy wealth and prosperity with which it benefits us to have good relations American children are about twice as likely as Danish children to die before the age of five Timothy Snyder is the Richard C Levin professor of history at Yale University, and the chair in modern European history supported by the Temerty endowment for Ukrainian studies at the University of Toronto. and Jason Stanley are leaving Yale for the University of Toronto Some of their reasons might be personal and professional but these well-known academics—two historians and a philosopher—aren’t just changing jobs They’re fleeing America as they see it falling under an authoritarian regime They’re watching the rule of law wither and due process disappear while a chill of fear settles over the country’s most powerful law firms So are thousands of other Americans who are looking for work abroad researching foreign schools for their kids trying to convert a grandparent’s birth country into a second passport or saving up several hundred thousand dollars to buy citizenship in Dominica or Vanuatu Many more Americans are discussing leaving with their families and friends I wondered if my failure to explore an exit makes me stupid and complacent I don’t want to think I’m one of the sanguine fools who can’t see the laser pointed at his own head—who doesn’t want to lose his savings and waits to flee until it’s too late Perhaps I was supposed to applaud the professors’ wisdom and courage in realizing that the time had come to leave Stanley compares the move to leaving Germany in 1933 Very few people are capable of heroism under oppression But the secret police aren’t coming for Snyder stands to lose millions of dollars in federal funding but its scholars—especially those with tenure and American citizenship—are still free to speak up on behalf of an unjustly deported immigrant defend a trans student against bullying and humiliation protest the destruction of the federal government They can still write books about fascism—more urgently now than ever and Stanley are deserting their posts in this country just as the battle that they’ve warned us about and told us how to fight is coming to a head Marc Novicoff: The Kennedy Center performers who didn’t cancel a British journalist published an essay in The New Yorker explaining why Having shown its best face during the Obama years She had obtained United States citizenship but she was exercising her option to get out now that the going here was no longer good; if the winds shifted again she might come back with her American passport Abandoning a country that had treated her well at just the moment when it ran into trouble defined citizenship as a transactional relationship The essay seemed written to confirm the right-wing stereotype of the coastal elite with no real commitment to this country His essay is a farewell love letter from an American who served his country for years: “And so we grieve—not just for what we’re leaving behind but for the version of America we once believed in.” This pseudonymous public servant isn’t leaving because of any personal danger His America was worth staying for only as long as it remained the America of the Declaration and the Constitution Trump’s gargoyle nation is unrecognizable to William A and it’s too late to do anything about it: “If you still believe change is possible from within When Trump deports an inconvenient American citizen and ignores a court order to bring him or her back home Or when Yale is intimidated into firing a law professor for teaching civil rights Or the Justice Department invents a pretext for FBI agents to confiscate computers in the offices of an independent publication and take down its website Or the 2026 midterms seem certain to be unfree and unfair Or when none of these extreme possibilities happens but life in America becomes so rotten with injustice and corruption When your children plead with you to move abroad Atossa Araxia Abrahamian: Americans are buying an escape plan What if you decide the time has come to leave and find that it’s too late But I don’t believe the time has come—not even close Americans are just beginning to find their voices against the destruction of our democracy The awakening is slow and incoherent because the assault is coming so fast and on so many fronts: constitutional Trump’s greatest weapon is his power to convince Americans that their country isn’t worth saving Some public intellectuals already seem persuaded The belief that America stands for an idea beyond blood and soil makes its identity fragile as long as enough Americans continue to believe in the idea with enough conviction to stick it out here and fight the country that you and I once lived in will still exist for the generation after us Snyder’s Lesson 19 is this command: “Be a patriot.” This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed Now we get new details thanks to Gary Buechler of the Nerdrotic YouTube channel The initial leak said: Superman is frustrated by social media backlash with the hashtag #SuperShit being mentioned several times as really getting under his skin hundreds of mutant monkeys are shown typing furiously at keyboards flooding social media with hate against Superman.” Buechler and Gore contacted a source involved in Gunn’s Superman screen tests Buechler revealed that the monkey scene takes place in the background and lasts for around 30 seconds Scooper ViewerAnon also chimed in following the leak and has said #SuperShit is meant to be a joke and is one of the best jokes of the movie Buechler and Gore didn’t stop there; they revealed that Gunn has included something about the Snyder Cut in Superman but it sounds like Gunn mocks the Snyder Cut Buechler and Gore said it’s passive aggressive so possibly “Snyder Cut” doesn’t get directly referenced (why would it right?) but maybe someone drops a joke in the movie about “something or other being four hours long” or maybe somone says “there should be an extended cut of whatever” for some reason it sounds like Gunn is making fun of all the Snyder Cut fans out there a lot of whom aren’t happy that Henry Cavill is no longer Superman and that Gunn has taken over the DCU much the same way Gunn may be using the monkeys that troll Superman online to get back at the people who canceled him years ago — the same backlash that got him fired from Disney… which leads to… RELATED:Superman Day Trailer Now In Doubt Hints James Gunn It’s quickly becoming obvious (IMO) that James Gunn isn’t using DC to tell good stories but he is using DC and Superman to send “The Message.” It seems Gunn is using DC to lecture the audience in regards to his own personal feelings about modern times a plot of Superman follows Lex Luthor creating some sort of misinformation campaign about Superman It’s essentially fake news about Superman I’m not going to go into the specific spoiler; you can watch the video linked above if you want Gunn is using Superman to take shots at what’s going on in today’s world It’s worth noting that Gunn did the same thing with Creature Commandos I was hoping that would’ve gotten it out of his system but it seems Gunn — now in a position of power — just can’t help himself He even inserted himself into the opening of Creature Commandos and the marketing for Superman is all about Gunn Gore also pointed out that DC’s CinemaCon presentation was focused entirely on Gunn — and no one still knows what the actual movie is about So Gunn’s Superman includes mutant monkeys spamming social media and a fake news subplot — because apparently Superman flies into theaters on July 11th starring David Corenswet encampment at Snyder Park on Monday City officials and community groups gave notice to about 10 individuals residing at the park on April 4 They offered information on other housing options in the community Springfield Community Development Director Logan Cobbs said they’ll have case workers and clinicians on site Monday to ensure a smooth transition “Our primary focus was and continues to be to ensure that individuals are given the opportunity to transition to a shelter if they wish to do so and to make sure that that transition is done with dignity and care,” Cobbs said The encampment has been developing over the past few months without access to proper sanitation facilities human waste can't be disposed of properly," Cobbs said so inadequate trash removal can lead to unsanitary conditions just a wide environmental concern there … as well a lack of security for those at the parks and also those living in the encampments (can) really lead to some vulnerable situations where they are in a higher risk of exploitation.” Springfield’s 2024 Point in Time count from January last year estimated 204 sheltered and 20 unsheltered individuals in the city A preliminary count from January 2025 identified 97 sheltered and 10 unsheltered people but he also recognizes it can disturb what people have built there “It's kind of a thin line between doing what is appropriate but also knowing the optics may not look like that so I think they've handled that pretty well,” Browning said “We're coming to help but we know we're also upsetting a way of life that (people) have been getting accustomed to.” the city’s contributed over $1.5 million in affordable housing and then homelessness prevention in an effort to mitigate homelessness That includes a $300,000 grant to Sheltered Inc “The city remains committed to dialogue with our community listening to the needs of those effectively and really being transparent about our progress but really just across the organization and community as we work toward tangible solutions,” Cobbs said "Addressing homelessness is really going to require a collaborative approach from local governments to nonprofits to service providers and the community.” but haven't seen any individuals from the camp come to either of their facilities But many local community organizations have stepped up to help them as people from the encampment come we (have) our case managers so either way if we get a plethora of people we're ready to go and serve them,” Browning said Cleaning up the park will take up to two months Known
