Three prominent critics of President Donald Trump are leaving Yale’s faculty — and the United States — amid attacks on higher education to take up positions at the University of Toronto in fall 2025
Philosophy professor Jason Stanley announced this week that he will leave Yale
while history professors Timothy Snyder and Marci Shore
decided to leave around the November elections
The three professors will work at Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
Stanley wrote to the Daily Nous that his decision to leave was “entirely because of the political climate in the United States.” On Wednesday, he told the Guardian that he chose to move after seeing how Columbia University handled political attacks from Trump.
“When I saw Columbia completely capitulate
we’re going to work behind the scenes because we’re not going to get targeted — that whole way of thinking presupposes that some universities will get targeted
and you don’t want to be one of those universities
and that’s just a losing strategy,” Stanley told the Guardian
“I just became very worried because I didn’t see a strong enough reaction in other universities to side with Columbia,” he added
Yale has not released a statement addressing the revocation of Columbia’s funding. Yale College Dean Pericles Lewis has told the News that he does not anticipate any changes in Yale’s free expression and protest policies. University President Maurie McInnis previously said that she is prioritizing lobbying for Yale’s interests in Washington over issuing public pronouncements
was largely personal and came amid “difficult family matters.” The spokesperson also said that he had “no desire” to leave the United States.
Shore wrote that her and Snyder’s children were factors in the couple’s decision
Snyder and Shore both specialize in Eastern European history and each has drawn parallels between the fascist regimes they have studied and the current Trump administration
has also published books on fascism and propaganda
including the popular book “How Fascism Works.”
he’s been one of my most important interlocutors on political
historical and philosophical questions for the better part of a decade now,” Shore wrote to the News on Wednesday
“I am thrilled that he’ll be joining us in Toronto
but also heartbroken at what’s happened to my own country.”
described the news of Stanley’s departure as a shock
although he knew that Stanley had been considering leaving Yale “for quite some time.” Franks described Stanley as an irreplaceable “pioneer” in analytic philosophy and as a “rare” American philosophical public intellectual
who took several classes with Stanley and worked as a research assistant on his latest book on fascism
lauded Stanley’s commitment to including a diverse canon in his classes’ syllabi
and to relating his courses to relevant current events
“He has a really neat ability to marry the tools of the discipline with the contemporary crises that we as students
With Shore and Snyder departing, Yale’s faculty will be short two of its most prominent scholars of Eastern Europe. Although Stanley’s academic work was not focused on the region, the philosophy professor has commented and written on the war in Ukraine and taught a course at the Kyiv School of Economics in Ukraine in the summer of 2024
shared that Snyder and Shore provided a crucial platform for conversations and events focused on Ukraine
“The departure of Professors Shore and Snyder leaves behind a profound void,” Tytarenko wrote to the News
“The intellectual and moral leadership they offered in advancing public understanding of Ukrainian history
a Belarusian dissident and research scholar at the MacMillan Center
called the professors’ departure “a big loss” for Yale and American education
but urged the University community to carry forward the pro-Ukraine advocacy Snyder and Shore led on campus
East European and Eurasian Studies Program
also emphasized the couple’s “tireless” advocacy for Eastern European scholarship on campus
When Yevhenii Monastyrskyi GRD ’23 studied European and Russian studies at Yale
Shore advised his thesis and Snyder served as his “spiritual guide,” Monastyrskyi said
He described the two professors as “generous scholars” who made time for their students
“Professor Snyder is always good with conceptual thinking
He helps to grasp the bigger picture students are trying to pursue,” Monastyrski said
“Professor Shore is a person of ideas and language
so she really helps her students to develop the clearest but also the most beautifully written pieces.”
Asked whether she believes other professors might be encouraged to leave the United States
Shore wrote that she believes many of her colleagues will consider relocating due to the current political climate
which she deemed an “American descent into fascism.”
“I don’t feel confident that American universities will manage to mobilize to protect either their students or their faculty,” Shore said
Franks wrote that he is not aware of other faculty in the philosophy department who are considering leaving the country for political reasons
Shore is on leave from Yale to finish a book manuscript
though she has resided in Toronto since the beginning of the academic year
She will begin teaching at the University of Toronto in the fall as the Munk School’s chair in European intellectual history
Snyder will be the school’s inaugural chair in Modern European History.
The University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy was founded in 2010

It must pain her that so many billionaires have been behaving so badly of late
While there’s nothing inherently wrong with aspiring to amass lots of money
the next generation of billionaires is playing fast and loose with their souls if their primary role models are the ones dominating today’s headlines
Wouldn’t it be grand if they looked instead to the Hobo Ethical Code, a serious standard of behavior established at the Hobo National Convention of 1889
Given the peripatetic lifestyle of these migratory workers, it was up to the individual to hold himself or herself to this knightly standard
Hoboes prided themselves on their self-reliance and honesty
as well as their compassion for their fellow humans
The environment and the most vulnerable members of our society stand to benefit if tomorrow’s billionaires take it to heart
Decide your own life; don’t let another person run or rule you
always respect the local law and officials
Don’t take advantage of someone who is in a vulnerable situation
By doing so you not only help a business along
but ensure employment should you return to that town again
make your own work by using your added talents at crafts
Do not allow yourself to become a stupid drunk and set a bad example for locals’ treatment of other hobos
another hobo will be coming along who will need them as badly
do not leave garbage where you are jungling
cause no problems with the operating crew or host railroad
another hobo will be coming along who will need passage through that yard
Do not allow other hobos to molest children; expose all molesters to authorities…they are the worst garbage to infest any society
Help your fellow hobos whenever and wherever needed

can you really claim to have seen Girl with a Pearl Earring at all
At that 108-gigapixel resolution, notes Jason Kottke, “each pixel is 1.3 microns in size — 1000 microns is 1 millimeter.” You can learn more about the technology behind the project in this making-of video produced by Hirox Europe
the local branch of the Japanese digital microscope company responsible for both the ten billion-pixel scan and this 108 billion-pixel one
which necessitated 88 hours of non-stop scanning this relatively small canvas of 15 inches by 17.5 inches
a process that resulted in 41,000 3D images
3D images: though Girl with a Pearl Earring
known as “the Mona Lisa of the North,” may be known far and wide in flat representations on pages
Vermeer achieved his ultra-realistic effects not just by putting the right colors in the right places, but applying them at the right thicknesses and with the right textures — all of which have been replicated in a “mega-sized” physical 3D print, 100 times larger than the original work, commissioned by the Mauritshuis for its Who’s that Girl? exhibition

When inventor Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville sang a nursery rhyme into his phonoautogram in 1860
he had no plans to ever play back this recording
the phonoautogram took inputs for the study of sound waves
but could not be turned into an output device
we can hear the voice of Scott in what is now considered the first ever recording of human sound
What you will hear in the above video are the various stages of reconstructing and reverse engineering the voice that sang on that April day in 1860
like wiping away decades of dirt and soot
Scott had looked to the invention of photography and wondered if something similar could be done with sound waves
focused as he was on improving stenography
And so the phonoautogram took in sound vibrations through a diaphragm
which moved a stylus against a rotating cylinder covered in lampblack
What was left was a wiggly line in a concentric circle
Scott’s invention never turned a profit and he went back to bookselling
The invention and some of the paper cylinders went into museums
In 2008, American audio historians discovered the scribbles and turned to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a software called IRENE
The software was designed to extract sounds from wax cylinders without touching the delicate surfaces
and the first pass revealed what they thought at first was a young woman or child singing “Au Clair de la lune,” the French nursery rhyme (not the Debussy piano work)
a further examination of Scott’s notes revealed that the recording was at a much slower speed
and it was a man—most probably Scott—singing the lullaby
The video shows the stages that brought Scott back to life: Denoising a lot of extraneous sound; stretching the recording back to natural time; “tuning and quantizing”–correcting for imperfections in the human-turned cylinder; cleaning up harmonics; and finally adding further harmonics
The result is less an unrecognizable ghost signal and more a touching sound of humanity
desiring somehow to have their voice live on

every aspect of William Shakespeare’s life has produced more speculation than any of us could digest in a lifetime
but also his even more scantily documented personal life
the known facts are these: on November 27th
1582 a marriage license was issued in Worcester to the 18-year-old William Shakespeare and the approximately 26-year-old Anne Hathaway
Six months later came the first of their three children
while Anne — willed only her husband’s “second-best bed” — remained in his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon
the couple could not only have remained in communication
but also lived together in the capital for a time
“Hereford Cathedral Library holds a fragmentary seventeenth-century letter addressed to a ‘Mrs Shakspaire,’ concerning her husband’s dealings with a fatherless apprentice,” writes Steggle in his research paper recently published in the journal Shakespeare
“Of the Shakespeares recorded in London
William Shakespeare is the only viable candidate to fit with the letter’s details.” In Steggle’s analysis
it “paints a picture of William and Anne Shakespeare together in London
It further suggests an Anne Shakespeare who is not absent from her husband’s London life
but present and engaged in his financial and social networks.”
The New York Times’ Ephrat Livni quotes Steggle as saying that “this letter
offers a glimpse of the Shakespeares together in London
both involved in social networks and business matters
presenting a united front against importunate requests to help poor orphans.” This
would “lend some heft to feminist readings of Shakespeare’s life,” as well as to the pop-culture trend of “rethinking the marriage and Hathaway’s role in it.” Each era thus continues to create the Shakespeare for whom it feels the need — and the Mrs

It’s hard to believe, but Marvin Gaye’s classic 1967 recording of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” was originally rejected by his record label
Gaye’s version might have been forgotten had it not been included in his 1968 album, In the Groove
“The DJs played it so much off the album,” Gordy said later
Gaye’s recording of the song became a crossover hit
It rose not only to the top of the R&B charts
but also spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard Pop Singles chart
It was Motown’s biggest-selling single up to that time
and the In the Groove album name was soon changed to I Heard It Through the Grapevine
as did the backing vocal group The Andantes and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

While you almost certainly know Simon & Garfunkel, you may not know Disturbed, who’ve been steadily popular in the metal world since the release of their debut album The Sickness in 2000. Listen to that album’s big single “Down with the Sickness,” and you’re instantly transported back to the turn of the millennium
when the exaggeratedly rhythmic and aggressive subgenre of “nu metal” reigned supreme
Entertaining though the sheer incongruity of a nu-metal version of “The Sound of Silence” would be, that movement had long since flamed out by 2015, when Disturbed recorded their cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s signature song. Instead, they take the haunting austerity of the original in a grandly mournful direction
and the kind of cavernous sensitivity in which metal acts occasionally indulge

If you think the Italians have mastered the craft of making shoes
According to the site Romans Across Europe
the Romans “were the originators of the entire-foot-encasing shoe.” The site continues:
There was a wide variety of shoes and sandals for men and women
Most were constructed like military caligae
with a one-piece upper nailed between layers of the sole
Many had large open-work areas made by cutting or punching circles
Some very dainty women’s and children’s shoes still had thick nailed soles

“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” Back in the time of the Roman Republic and the early Roman Empire
all of Rome’s enemies must have had a plan until pila punched through their shields
A kind of javelin with a wooden shaft and a sharp iron shank
the pilum came in both long and short lengths
Short pila had the advantage of distance
but long pila had the advantage of power
as well as the convenient feature — whether deliberately or accidentally implemented at first — that their shanks would more readily bend after impact
making them impractical to remove from the shields they’d penetrated
With his shield thus made unwieldy by one or more pila, an advancing combatant would thus be forced to discard it entirely — assuming he was still in the condition to do so. As you can see vividly demonstrated in the Smithsonian Channel video above
a pilum landing in the center of a shield could easily skewer anyone standing behind it
History has it that Roman soldiers were also trained to throw their pila where enemy shields overlapped
pinning them together and thus rendering twice as much of their defense useless
pila could be gathered from the battlefield for refurbishment

“Tom Jones and his show might’ve been seen as somewhat ‘square’ by the rockstar standards of CSNY,” writes Dangerous Minds,” but when the foursome agreed to appear in September of that year
just weeks after the massive festival in upstate New York
it turned into a memorable television event

“The man’s mighty lungs inspire the rest of them to keep up

Even stranger than this combination is the fact that Young agreed to do it at all
He had become notoriously averse to doing television
even turning down The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and citing his hatred of TV as a reason for leaving Buffalo Springfield two years earlier
Though he may have been caught up in the moment
as his longtime manager Eliot Roberts told biographer Jimmy McDonough: “Neil went
It’s that shit.’ He always used to say ‘that shit.’ Crosby had this weed of doom… Neil never forgave me for that
but in retrospect it was embarrassing.” Young probably shouldn’t have worried
it didn’t seem to hurt his credibility as much as his bewildering (though critically re-appraised) 1982 New Wave record
reinventing himself in the 80s and 90s in good-humored self-parodies
then becoming a bona fide pop star once more
He has yet to appear again with Neil Young

the US could soon have to fight wars to get things that
No one would allow that he could not see these much-admired clothes; because
he would have declared himself either a simpleton or unfit of his office.” – Hans Christian Andersen
Elon Musk and Donald Trump inherited a state with unprecedented power and functionality
They also inherited a set of alliances and relationships that underpinned the largest economy in world history
Waltz and Vance perhaps hoped to change the subject by tagging along on a trip that was initially billed as Vance’s wife watching a dogsled race
He claimed that Denmark was not protecting the security of Greenlanders in the Arctic
It takes some patience to unwind all of the nonsense here
The base at Pituffik (formerly Thule) only exists because Denmark permitted the US to build it at a sensitive time. It has served for decades as a central part of the US’s nuclear armoury and then as an early-warning system against Soviet and then Russian nuclear attack.
Read moreWhen Vance says that Denmark is not protecting Greenland and the base
he is wishing away generations of cooperation
and it is already the US’s job to defend Denmark and Greenland
just as it is Denmark’s job (as with other members) to defend them in return
Americans might chuckle at that idea, but such arrogance is unwarranted. We are the only ones ever to have invoked article 5
the mutual defence obligation of the Nato treaty
after 9/11; and our European allies did respond
almost as many Danish soldiers were killed in the Afghan war as were American soldiers
This is one of countless examples of how cooperation with Nato allies benefits the US
It is not clear what will happen with that arrangement now that Trump and Vance define Canada
As with everything Musk-Trump does, however, the cui bono question about imperialism in Greenland is easy to answer: Russia benefits. Putin cannot contain his delight with US imperialism over Greenland
In generating artificial crises in relations with both Denmark and Canada
America’s two closest allies these last 80 years
the Trump people cut America loose from security gains and create a chaos in which Russia benefits
View image in fullscreenPeople protest over JD Vance’s visit to Greenland in front of the US embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, 29 March 2025. Photograph: Nils Meilvang/APThe American imperialism directed towards Denmark and Canada is not just morally wrong
There is nothing that Americans cannot get from Denmark or Canada through alliance
The very existence of the base at Pituffik shows that
Within the atmosphere of friendship that has prevailed the last 80 years
all of the mineral resources of Canada and Greenland can be traded for on good terms
or for that matter explored by American companies
The only way to put all of this easy access in doubt was to follow the course that Musk-Trump have chosen: trade wars with Canada and Europe
and the threat of actual wars and annexations
Musk and Trump are creating the bloodily moronic situation in which the US will have to fight wars to get the things that
Much effort is spent trying to extract a doctrine from all this
It is just senselessness that benefits America’s enemies
Hans Christian Andersen told the unforgettable tale of the naked emperor
what we saw was American imperialism with no clothes
and propose that alliances with dictatorships would somehow be better
But Europe is not only home to our traditional allies; it is an enviable zone of democracy
wealth and prosperity with which it benefits us to have good relations
American children are about twice as likely as Danish children to die before the age of five

Some of their reasons might be personal and professional
but these well-known academics—two historians and a philosopher—aren’t just changing jobs
They’re fleeing America as they see it falling under an authoritarian regime
They’re watching the rule of law wither and due process disappear while a chill of fear settles over the country’s most powerful law firms
So are thousands of other Americans who are looking for work abroad
researching foreign schools for their kids
trying to convert a grandparent’s birth country into a second passport
or saving up several hundred thousand dollars to buy citizenship in Dominica or Vanuatu
Many more Americans are discussing leaving with their families and friends
I wondered if my failure to explore an exit makes me stupid and complacent
I don’t want to think I’m one of the sanguine fools who can’t see the laser pointed at his own head—who doesn’t want to lose his savings and waits to flee until it’s too late
Perhaps I was supposed to applaud the professors’ wisdom and courage in realizing that the time had come to leave
Stanley compares the move to leaving Germany in 1933
Very few people are capable of heroism under oppression
But the secret police aren’t coming for Snyder

but its scholars—especially those with tenure and American citizenship—are still free to speak up on behalf of an unjustly deported immigrant

and Stanley are deserting their posts in this country just as the battle that they’ve warned us about and told us how to fight is coming to a head

Having shown its best face during the Obama years
She had obtained United States citizenship
but she was exercising her option to get out now that the going here was no longer good; if the winds shifted again
she might come back with her American passport
Abandoning a country that had treated her well at just the moment when it ran into trouble defined citizenship as a transactional relationship
The essay seemed written to confirm the right-wing stereotype of the coastal elite with no real commitment to this country
His essay is a farewell love letter from an American who served his country for years: “And so we grieve—not just for what we’re leaving behind
but for the version of America we once believed in.” This pseudonymous public servant isn’t leaving because of any personal danger
His America was worth staying for only as long as it remained the America of the Declaration and the Constitution
Trump’s gargoyle nation is unrecognizable to William A
and it’s too late to do anything about it: “If you still believe change is possible from within
When Trump deports an inconvenient American citizen and ignores a court order to bring him or her back home
Or when Yale is intimidated into firing a law professor for teaching civil rights
Or the Justice Department invents a pretext for FBI agents to confiscate computers in the offices of an independent publication and take down its website
Or the 2026 midterms seem certain to be unfree and unfair
Or when none of these extreme possibilities happens
but life in America becomes so rotten with injustice and corruption
When your children plead with you to move abroad
Atossa Araxia Abrahamian: Americans are buying an escape plan
What if you decide the time has come to leave and find that it’s too late
But I don’t believe the time has come—not even close
Americans are just beginning to find their voices against the destruction of our democracy
The awakening is slow and incoherent because the assault is coming so fast and on so many fronts: constitutional
Trump’s greatest weapon is his power to convince Americans that their country isn’t worth saving
Some public intellectuals already seem persuaded
The belief that America stands for an idea beyond blood and soil makes its identity fragile
as long as enough Americans continue to believe in the idea with enough conviction to stick it out here and fight
the country that you and I once lived in will still exist for the generation after us

After the wild rumor about interdimensional mutant monkeys trolling Superman leaked online
new details reveal James Gunn’s Superman movie also mocks the Snyder Cut and includes a fake news storyline led by Lex Luthor
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Gunn can’t help himself and is inserting his personal beliefs into the DCU and the Superman movie
RELATED:‘Minecraft’ Shocks Hollywood: Bigger Than ‘Barbie’ at the Box Office
A few days ago, what was thought to be a bizarre and wild rumor surfaced, which has since been said to be true. Now we get new details thanks to Gary Buechler of the Nerdrotic YouTube channel
The initial leak said:
Superman is frustrated by social media backlash
with the hashtag #SuperShit being mentioned several times as really getting under his skin
hundreds of mutant monkeys are shown typing furiously at keyboards
flooding social media with hate against Superman.”
Buechler and Gore contacted a source involved in Gunn’s Superman screen tests
Buechler revealed that the monkey scene takes place in the background and lasts for around 30 seconds
Scooper ViewerAnon also chimed in following the leak and has said #SuperShit is meant to be a joke and is one of the best jokes of the movie
Buechler and Gore didn’t stop there; they revealed that Gunn has included something about the Snyder Cut in Superman
but it sounds like Gunn mocks the Snyder Cut
Buechler and Gore said it’s passive aggressive
so possibly “Snyder Cut” doesn’t get directly referenced (why would it
right?) but maybe someone drops a joke in the movie about “something or other being four hours long” or maybe somone says “there should be an extended cut of whatever” for some reason
it sounds like Gunn is making fun of all the Snyder Cut fans out there
a lot of whom aren’t happy that Henry Cavill is no longer Superman and that Gunn has taken over the DCU
much the same way Gunn may be using the monkeys that troll Superman online to get back at the people who canceled him years ago — the same backlash that got him fired from Disney… which leads to…
RELATED:Superman Day Trailer Now In Doubt Hints James Gunn
It’s quickly becoming obvious (IMO) that James Gunn isn’t using DC to tell good stories but he is using DC and Superman to send “The Message.” It seems Gunn is using DC to lecture the audience in regards to his own personal feelings about modern times
a plot of Superman follows Lex Luthor creating some sort of misinformation campaign about Superman
It’s essentially fake news about Superman
I’m not going to go into the specific spoiler; you can watch the video linked above if you want
Gunn is using Superman to take shots at what’s going on in today’s world
It’s worth noting that Gunn did the same thing with Creature Commandos
I was hoping that would’ve gotten it out of his system
but it seems Gunn — now in a position of power — just can’t help himself
He even inserted himself into the opening of Creature Commandos
and the marketing for Superman is all about Gunn
Gore also pointed out that DC’s CinemaCon presentation was focused entirely on Gunn — and no one still knows what the actual movie is about
So Gunn’s Superman includes mutant monkeys spamming social media
and a fake news subplot — because apparently
Superman flies into theaters on July 11th starring David Corenswet

2025 surrounded by her children and grandchildren
Vinh’s life was the embodiment of the Chinese idiom 先苦后甜 (xian ku
enduring early hardships to embrace the sweetness of life in one’s later years
she ran both a full household and the family business with her late husband
No matter the challenge — protecting her family through the Vietnam War
rebuilding anew in America — she always acted with courage and optimism
She was a doting grandmother to twelve grandchildren and joyful great grandmother to fourteen great grandchildren
she was predeceased by her son Duc Oai Tran and her great grandson Nathaniel Lee
Vinh’s enthusiasm for life’s wonders is also a great legacy of hers
All will remember fondly her awe of fireworks lighting up the sky at Longwood Park
her simple joy during a family beach day in New York
and her quiet delight at clearing out the buffet
But perhaps one of her greatest legacies is her warm laugh
which came to her easily and frequently — and which will live on forever in our hearts
Family and friends are welcome to attend Vinh’s viewing and memorial service
The family respectfully requests no flowers

The city of Springfield plans to move unhoused people from an encampment at Snyder Park on Monday
City officials and community groups gave notice to about 10 individuals residing at the park on April 4
They offered information on other housing options in the community
Springfield Community Development Director Logan Cobbs said they’ll have case workers and clinicians on site Monday to ensure a smooth transition
“Our primary focus was and continues to be to ensure that individuals are given the opportunity to transition to a shelter if they wish to do so
and to make sure that that transition is done with dignity and care,” Cobbs said
The encampment has been developing over the past few months
without access to proper sanitation facilities
human waste can't be disposed of properly," Cobbs said
so inadequate trash removal can lead to unsanitary conditions
just a wide environmental concern there … as well a lack of security for those at the parks and also those living in the encampments (can) really lead to some vulnerable situations where they are in a higher risk of exploitation.”
Springfield’s 2024 Point in Time count from January last year estimated 204 sheltered and 20 unsheltered individuals in the city
A preliminary count from January 2025 identified 97 sheltered and 10 unsheltered people
but he also recognizes it can disturb what people have built there
“It's kind of a thin line between doing what is appropriate but also knowing the optics may not look like that
so I think they've handled that pretty well,” Browning said
“We're coming to help but we know we're also upsetting a way of life that (people) have been getting accustomed to.”
the city’s contributed over $1.5 million in affordable housing
and then homelessness prevention in an effort to mitigate homelessness
That includes a $300,000 grant to Sheltered Inc
“The city remains committed to dialogue with our community
listening to the needs of those effectively and really being transparent about our progress
but really just across the organization and community as we work toward tangible solutions,” Cobbs said
"Addressing homelessness is really going to require a collaborative approach from local governments to nonprofits to service providers and the community.”
but haven't seen any individuals from the camp come to either of their facilities
But many local community organizations have stepped up to help them as people from the encampment come
we (have) our case managers so either way if we get a plethora of people we're ready to go and serve them,” Browning said
Cleaning up the park will take up to two months
Known lovingly as “Gaga” to her grandsons
she embraced her role with joy and devotion
Never hesitating to sit on the floor and follow their lead
Gaga delighted in every moment spent with Justin and Wyatt
always on the lookout for the perfect outfit or surprise
and she cherished every opportunity to be by their side
Whether she was playing golf at Meadia Heights or in Pinehurst
or simply sitting outside on the patio enjoying the sun
she was always with her husband and best friend of over 52 years
They were rarely apart and were known to everyone as the perfect couple
She used her organizational skills to plan events at Community UMC
and was so happy knowing that she would be united with Christ and her son
she had more than enough food for everyone
Her all-star recipes were her mac n cheese and sugar & chocolate chip cookies

a return to his former stomping grounds could not be ruled out in the wake of the news that Gregg Popovich will not return in 2025-26
Quin Snyder has ties to the San Antonio Spurs. With all of the changes that have already taken place – and those to come – for the Atlanta Hawks
Popovich missed much of the 2024-25 season after suffering a stroke in November. The legendary head coach also fainted while dining at a restaurant in April
The Spurs announced on May 2 that Popovich would transition to team president
This seemingly created a void for the head coaching position
Mitch Johnson took over for Popovich after
and the Spurs quickly moved to name the 38-year-old coach to the top chair on a full-time basis
Snyder has not expressed a desire to leave, but he was linked to the vacancy in recent days, and the turmoil in the Hawks’ front office and looming roster questions are at the heart of the speculation
Former Memphis Grizzlies executive John Hollinger made the connection
lured from a Costa Rican beach vacation to take over in early 2023
still has significant say (and the salary to prove it),” Hollinger wrote in April
“Snyder is still under contract and oversaw young players like Johnson, Daniels, Risacher, Okongwu and Gueye making progress. Snyder has also gotten Young to try on defense. However, Snyder might have an interest in pursuing other openings
especially if the Spurs job becomes available.”
who is 76-88 in two full seasons as Hawks HC
from 2007 through 2010 in what was the NBADL
Snyder led the Toros to win nearly 63% of their games and saw more players called up than any other affiliate
Snyder also still has ties to the organization in the team’s current CEO
“Snyder has known R.C. Buford since they were both assistant coaches under Larry Brown with the Los Angeles Clippers for the 1992-93 season
and Buford — then the general manager of the San Antonio Spurs — proved a trusted sounding board in Snyder’s time of indecision,” Eric Walden wrote for the Salt Lake Tribune in May 2021
“Snyder would have been fine staying longer.”
Walden cited Snyder’s wife working on her doctorate at Texas and that the coach was enjoying his ability to develop players with the Toros and build relationships with the Spurs
Snyder had preexisting ties to the Hawks, too, spending one season in Atlanta as an assistant in 2013-14. But his experience has certainly not unfolded as he or anyone likely expected
The Hawks are set to hire a new president of basketball operations
who will work with newly installed general manager Onsi Saleh to mold the roster in their vision
How much will Snyder’s opinion be weighed in looming decisions like on Young
HoopsHype posted on Facebook in February an expectation that the new president would see that Snyder deserves – and will grant him – more time since the roster was not built for him
The post argues for a “full year” and “roster input.”
It noted that assistant GM Kyle Korver brought Snyder in
but that there was no “synergy” between the coach and Fields
The post also reported the belief that part of Snyder’s reasoning for accepting the position so soon after leaving the Utah Jazz was control
who will undoubtedly want to imprint themselves in the look of the team
be willing to cede some of their power to Snyder
The Hawks have hired outside firm Sportsology to find their next president of basketball ops
They are said to be willing to spend top dollar on that decision-maker, and the Hawks have been linked to prominent candidates. Even with the proposition that Snyder could have more say in the roster construction, ownership has proven its propensity for change amid a sea of voices
