Stuart families concerned as Cleveland Clinic in Martin County consolidates servicesby Tiffany Rizzo
(CBS12) — At the end of last year that Cleveland Clinic in Stuart announced they were planning to move their labor and delivery services to their Tradition hospital in Port St Lucie
Now they're consolidating their services even more at Cleveland Clinic Martin South
Cleveland Clinic couldn't confirm what area of the hospital they were consolidating
but they did tell us it's because of a decline in inpatient admissions and a shift to outpatient care
A local family said they don't want to see any more resources taken away from Martin County

It's about financial," David D'Eugenio said

The Cleveland Clinic is bringing its specialized medical care for the region's youngest patients to Akron
Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s Medical Office Building on South Broadway in Akron will open for pediatric primary care services on Monday and specialty services in the coming weeks
The hospital system has invested about $3.2 million into the facility

During a tour of the pediatric area of the Akron Medical Office Building at 676 S
Pappas showed what she highlighted as spacious rooms and computer stations oriented so that patients can see their care providers as they take their medical histories
According to a news release from the Cleveland Clinic

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik was among the community leaders at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to welcome the pediatric services to Akron

Cleveland Clinic Akron General "has really been a pillar of our economy
taking care of people in our community," Malik said
Cleveland Clinic Akron General President Dr

"That's one of the pledges we make to our community
not only in health care but in employment and raising the bar for all of our families throughout the communities that we serve," Harte said
"Another promise that we make in Cleveland Clinic is that we are here to take care of you and your families out in the community at every stage of your life."
Akron Children's Hospital has controlled the pediatric hospital market in Akron
with Summa and Akron General focusing on adult care
Both of Akron's adult health systems have had contracts with Akron Children's to run the special-care nurseries for newborns who needed a higher level of care but not the more intensive care offered in Children's neonatal intensive-care unit
But Akron General is now part of the Cleveland Clinic health system
which has its own nationally recognized Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital and a variety of pediatric specialities
chair of Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

"We were so excited because we provide care to patients who live in the surrounding area that are really impacted by a disparity in outcomes
both for infant mortality as well as for our Black birthing persons," Savitski said
outcomes tend to be worse for our Black birthing persons
and we do a lot to mitigate those social determinants of health that impact their outcomes"

That was 11 years before Cleveland Clinic acquired Akron General
Cleveland Clinic Akron General previously provided COVID-19 testing on the first floor of its Medical Office Building
The building opened in 1984 as a facility for Health Guard

which for 10 years has owned a vacant restaurant building off U.S
just paid $40.35 million for its next-door neighbor
Benderson has been unwilling and unable to lease what
used to be the 5,600-square-foot Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon at 13186 S
Just to the west of the abandoned building stands the 280,000-square-foot Cypress Trace shopping center at 13300 S
with anchor tenants comprising 83% of the tenant base
“This offering received strong investor interest based on its location at Fort Myers’ dominant retail intersection and diverse and expansive anchor lineup,” Gilbert
vice chair and retail capital markets leader for Cushman & Wakefield
“Nuveen’s leasing agent has done an excellent job backfilling anchor vacancies in the past few years…”
“These new anchors are stronger operators than their predecessors and will increase customer traffic to the center,” Gilbert said
Cypress Trace has just one available vacancy
a partner with Trinity Commercial Group and leasing agent
“We are confident that Benderson will continue the excellent stewardship of the asset
enhancing the performance and contribution to the surrounding retail landscape,” he said
The sale price amounts to $144 per square foot
“That’s pretty in line with what I would expect for a property like that,” Simmons said
But you’ve got it anchored with a couple of larger retailers
and you’ve got a mix of other places like Skillets.”
Benderson Development Managing Director Randy Benderson declined an interview request
But Benderson said in a news release: “Cypress Trace represents an exciting opportunity for us to further invest in Fort Myers and enhance the shopping experience for residents
This acquisition aligns with our expertise in revitalizing shopping centers and creating vibrant places to shop
CEO of Cushman & Wakefield Southwest Florida
But he said Benderson now owning almost the entire corner—the adjacent Blaze Pizza has different ownership—now raises the likelihood of the vacant Lone Star restaurant finally being redeveloped
“I would expect that now that Benderson owns the entire property
it should be able to be much easier for Benderson to now redevelop that hard corner and the old Lone Star Steakhouse,” Tasman said
“I think the market would like to see a new and innovative concept on that site
My hope is that will help facilitate that redevelopment.”
“I think it will attract a group that’s going to want their own format.”
the new Capitol Grille took shape on the site of a preexisting Mimi’s Cafe
That same type of redevelopment could take place at the vacant Lone Star building
“A larger restaurant chain is not inclined to take an existing building and try to make that work,” Simmons said
“It’s not worthwhile for those groups with the economy of scale they have
Acquiring Cypress Trace looks like a great investment for Benderson for multiple reasons
and I have no idea if this is part of the buyer’s plan,” he said
“But that is an enormous site for a shopping center
we’re going to see the addition of multifamily
It makes sense from the standpoint of the owner
Sites like this that are extremely well located
they’re going to have interest from prospective tenants.”
you’re looking beyond just what the plaza is today,” he said
It’s not just a benefit for the property owner
It creates internal capture for the retailers

Cleveland Metroparks today announced a $13 million gift from the Jack
the largest private donation received in the Park District’s history
The gift will support two of Cleveland Metroparks’ key initiatives along the lakefront on Cleveland’s east side: the construction of the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway from E
55th Street and neighborhood investment through the acquisition and transformation of the southern portion of Gordon Park
“The gift from the Mandel Foundation is a historic and transformative investment in Cleveland Metroparks and Cleveland’s east side neighborhoods,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M
“We are excited to work closely with the City of Cleveland
Councilman Anthony Hairston and our neighborhood partners on the revitalization of Gordon Park and improving connections from the St
Clair Superior neighborhood to our lakefront.”
Cleveland Metroparks has leased and managed the northern portion of Gordon Park along the lakefront and has been strategically investing in the park to improve access and amenities
With $8 million of the Mandel Foundation’s generous gift
and through strong partnerships with the City of Cleveland and Cleveland City Council
Cleveland Metroparks looks to expand the lease and management of Gordon Park to include the 48-acre southern portion of the park east of E
Following a robust community engagement process
targeted and strategic investments will be made in the park to serve visitors and the neighborhoods adjacent to the historic park including upgraded infrastructure
water play components and baseball field improvements
The gift from the Mandel Foundation will support Cleveland Metroparks’ work with community partners to create a cohesive lakefront park on the east side of the City of Cleveland
72nd Street corridor and activating the entire Gordon Park with a variety of active and passive recreational amenities
The strategic improvements to Gordon Park will further the vision of the Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resiliency Strategy (CHEERS)
establishing a waterfront community that includes beautiful
vibrant corridors connecting neighborhoods to the lakefront.
$5 million will be allocated to advancing construction of the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway between E
55th streets along North Marginal Road on the east side of the City of Cleveland in partnership with Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland
This new 2.7-mile off-road paved segment of the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway will connect to the existing portion of the bikeway from E
Drive and provide much needed safe access to the lakefront on foot or by bicycle to the St
Clair Superior and Glenville neighborhoods
The gift from the Mandel Foundation is complemented by $5.6 million of funds from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) through the Federal Highway Administration’s Carbon Reduction Program and local match funds provided by Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland.
“The multi-modal all purpose trail represents a notable milestone in years of collective lakefront planning amongst project partners and is a first step of the Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resiliency Strategy,” said Cleveland Metroparks Chief Planning and Design Officer Sean E
“Construction on the trail is expected to begin summer 2024 in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation with the goal of being completed by the end of 2025.”
The new trail will provide the millions of visitors and guests to Cleveland’s lakefront with a direct connection from downtown to University Circle
“The grant awarded to Cleveland Metroparks will serve as a catalyst for tremendous investment in furthering lakefront access and recreational opportunities for all our citizens
but especially the residents of neighborhoods that are adjacent to Lake Erie within the City of Cleveland,” said Jehuda Reinharz
“The investment is a significant part of our effort to strengthen neighborhoods and provide our fellow citizens an enhanced quality of life.”
“This grant awarded by the Mandel Foundation marks significant investments in the St
Clair Superior neighborhood and comes on the heels of our recent grant to help build Irishtown Bend Park in Ohio City,” said Stephen H
Chairman of the Board of the Mandel Foundation
“This grant is centered around our belief that our citizens and neighborhoods are our greatest assets; thus
we want to help in strengthening these communities for all who live
These lakefront projects will not only boost the Foundation’s previous investments
but will spark new investments and new interest in these wonderful lakefront neighborhoods.”
“We are honored to receive this monumental gift from the Mandel Foundation that will expand east side neighborhood access and connections to lakefront trails and greenspace,” said Cleveland Metroparks Chief Development Officer Natalie Ronayne
“By investing in the two key corridors and gateways along the lakefront and E
initial benefits of the CHEERS vision and collaborative lakefront planning will be realized in the near term for residents of the surrounding neighborhoods and across Northeast Ohio.”
The outdoor sculpture known as Henry Church
Rock in South Chagrin Reservation was carved by artist and blacksmith Henry Church
Church walked through the Chagrin River at night to sculpt this large sandstone boulder
Included in the carving is a quiver of arrows (with the four phases of the moon)
a woman with a shell behind her (reminiscent of Botticelli's Venus)
While many have speculated the meaning of the work
Church actually wanted to convey through this piece
Other smaller carvings can be found on the river side of the rock
although it is uncertain whether they were carved by Henry Church
The reservation is located in Bentleyville
