The man who allegedly engaged police in a shootout Monday in South San Francisco and was fatally shot himself has been publicly identified The man, who neighbors say was enraged over a tree-trimming dispute with a neighbor, has been identified as 60-year-old Brian Joseph Montana. And Montana was later also identified as a founding member of the Bay Area death metal band Possessed though he left the band before the recorded their first big album Seven Churches.* As Bay City News reports South San Francisco police arrived at the scene in the Rancho Buri Buri neighborhood at 5:52 pm Monday and immediately called for backup after finding Montana shooting into an occupied home Montana then allegedly moved behind a parked vehicle in the driveway of the home and shot at police with a handgun over the course of 25 minutes "Officers used police vehicles as cover from the barrage of gunfire and were able to return fire." and their names have not yet been released to the public The department plans to release audio and video from the incident as the SFPD routinely does following an officer-involved shooting The dispute that led to Montana arming himself and apparently trying to murder a neighbor stemmed from a dispute over an overhanging tree that crossed property lines Neighbor Cory David tells ABC 7 he tried to resolve a situation the wrong way." Another neighbor was reportedly injured in the shooutout though it's unclear if that is the same neighbor whose house Montana was seen shooting at That neighbor was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries *This post has been updated to add the detail about Montana's role in Possessed A 56-year-old man will be doing five years in prison for running a giant illegal cannabis grow that was discovered in a Monterey-area national forest after the Dolan Fire which itself was started by another rogue marijuana grower San Francisco police are looking for three male suspects after an attempted robbery that turned violent early Wednesday in the Mission District Get the latest posts delivered right to your inbox Barmann is a fiction writer and web editor who's lived in San Francisco for 20+ years Get all the latest & greatest posts delivered straight to your inbox KRON4 https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/police-activity-reported-in-south-san-francisco-multiple-agencies-responding/ KRON4's Lindsey Ford reports: https://www.kron4.com/?p=2158697&preview=true Made in the Bay Area and being shown on the big screen local filmmakers discuss being featured at SFFilm Festival this year Video shows aftermath of tree crushing San Francisco parklet One man is in jail and another was hospitalized after a seemingly random attack in the Castro on Easter Three people are dead and three more are hospitalized with serious injuries after a Volkswagen Tiguan hit a tree on San Geronimo Valley Road just west of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard shortly before 7:30 p.m San Francisco Fire Department firefighters rescued an injured dog and an uninjured person from a cliffside along Mile Rock Trail in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Thursday afternoon Bay Area photographer Lani Tinio shared a timelapse of the Moon rising over the Bay Bridge on Sunday with KRON4 and there is no shortage of activities going on around the Bay Area KRON4 Chief Meteorologist Lawrence Karnow has 4 Fun Things going on this weekend By: 5:00 am on April 29 The following passage was included with the latest application: Site plan and building design modifications include a reduction of one residential unit (resulting in 291) and an overall reduction in bedroom count The primary change in layout involves adding building square footage on floors 4-8 along the west side and incorporating additional storefront and glazing along the west elevation illustration by Architecture Design Collaborative The city’s planning department has published a Notice of Determination for the amendments Further information about the amount by which the bedroom count and ground-floor programming has not been shared The 2022-approved plans called for a 92-foot-tall structure with 332,750 square feet of housing, a 308-car two-story garage, and storage for 135 bicycles. Content Director for TransWorld SKATEboarding Known as “the birthplace of biotechnology,” South San Francisco is coping with a worsening life sciences real estate market compared to last year’s already sluggish numbers Supply pinches that plagued biotech markets across the country are a thing of the past with even South San Francisco struggling with inflated inventories and increased vacancies That led to a striking 27.4% vacancy rate for South San Francisco in the fourth quarter, up from 15.7% just a year ago, in an area that has been compared to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for its desirability. Today, biotech on the Peninsula remains one-third vacant The submarket is filled with brand-new trophy assets that will struggle to find tenants this year as the existing supply glut slowly gets filled amid a challenging time for landlords Phase 2 of Kilroy’s Oyster Point, which consists of 288K SF of new life sciences space, opened spec spaces in the fall, while additional buildings in the megaproject remain under construction as we have predicted for a long time,” Alexandria Real Estate Equities Chairmen Joel Marcus said during the REIT’s January earnings call “Kind of a reckless oversupply there by people who really didn't know what they were doing.” This is a sharp turn for one of the most prestigious places on the Peninsula Cresa director of life sciences research and analytics Developers took any opportunity they could to build in South San Francisco and capture that demand planned and financed at the height of the life sciences boom delivering during a lean time for leasing activity McShea is tracking 1.25M SF of newly delivered product in South San Francisco last year with another 1.2M SF under construction right now It doesn’t help that sublease space in the area, which is already built out and ready for startups, offers big cost and delivery speed benefits compared to a new building that requires tenant fit-outs. Savills found that sublease volume under 15K SF surged in Q4 as new companies sought cheaper options to expand their footprints “[South San Francisco] developers thought they could match the demand to fill their new product and purchased land at a premium suddenly there’s all these buildings under construction at the same time and construction costs are rising substantially,” McShea said “They’ve been putting a lot of money into them.”  Cresa’s rundown of Q4’s largest transactions in the San Francisco region found five of the top 10 signed leases were for properties in South San Francisco But that deal backfilled Amgen’s facilities at 1100 and 1120 Veterans Blvd and represented a relocation within Healthpeak’s portfolio Tenants took only 178K SF more than they vacated in the submarket “These landlords have built these high-valuation projects and promised certain returns so they can’t afford to reduce the base rental rate because what if they want to sell 10 years down the road?” McShea said So they are extremely willing to stretch things like free rent and tenant allowances.”  You are subscribed to the Bisnow National Newsletter or click here to copy link to clipboard We will email you a link to reset your helped Possessed rise in a scene that included Metallica and Exodus but left the group due to internal problems the original guitarist for death metal act Possessed According to The Daily Journal when Montana became angry over his neighbor’s leaves and tree branches falling into his yard Montana began firing on police when they arrived using vehicles in his driveway and landscaping for concealment The standoff lasted for nearly half an hour before two officers returned fire and struck Montana “[Montana] fired multiple times at officers using a handgun and rifle … Officers used patrol cars as cover and returned fire,” the South San Francisco Police Department said in a statement “The suspect was struck and ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.” but it’s fortunate that nobody else its release due to differences with Torrao "Torrao had a terrible attitude problem and wouldn’t stop ragging at me, Montana told Voices From the Darkside in an interview “He was like some senile old For more information, see the Draft EIR here The city recommends contacting principal planner Billy Gross via email at billy.gross@ssf.net It will obliterate a lot of marginal office space within a 10-mile radius That clears the way for more of that marginal office space to be replaced by housing Not a bad looking building but then again I would expect this from a talented architectural firm like SOM But I question the need for this building when the owner can purchase a empty highrise building in San Francisco Parking + SF is dangerous for normal corporate workers to go to as this consolidates out tons of marginal office property I’m guessing they don’t buy in SF because it’s a R&D office building and the SF empty skyscrapers wouldn’t be good properties for the R&D space and operations Good point this type of facility requires special mechanical equipment that a existing highrise don’t have an other option Google just abandoned one of its campus I’m sure that these buildings can easily be upgraded Looks like it will go into a new facility to be built in the existing airport parking lot just to the north Electrify America and EVgo to install chargers that could be used for public benefit Pre construction is the time to do this and SSF has a chance to lead in this area – take a look at Electrify America’s flagship station on Harrison Wonder if SSF will increase public safety staffing (FD and PD) and public works staffing Ropes & Gray represented FairJourney Biologics S.A., leaders in the discovery and optimization of antibodies, in its acquisition of the South San Francisco site from Charles River Laboratories International, Inc.
